Emery
I hang the sparkly gowns on the rack to let them dry. Sweat dripped from my brow, so I wiped it with the hem on my shirt. I smiled as I finished all of my tasks—all of the conditions I had to fulfill in order for me to attend the party.
The incoming Alpha’s birthday celebration was tomorrow. Excitement flooded in my veins for this will be the first time that I would be going out of the house. I never really knew the exact reason why they stopped me from going outside. I never really had that many chances to go out, but it significantly lessened on my 12th birthday.
I got up early, knowing that it was my 12th birthday. Although I never really had a party, or visitors, or even birthday cake, it was still a special event when the Beta’s family would rarely give me a gift. Last year, they got me a piece of chocolate so I was excited about the thought of another new gift from the family.
“Emery, stop fussing around. You’re going to wake Caitlyn up.” Carrie’s shrill voice scolded me quietly in my room. “Come down, your gift is in the living room. We made this gift extra special so make sure to be a good girl. Don’t break any rules and always listen to our commands, okay?” I innocently agreed and bounced down the stairs.
On the living room couch, a sparkly pink dress was sprawled over its cushions. The dress seemed familiar. It was the beautiful dress that Caitlyn once wore in her ballet recitals. I didn’t really mind receiving any hand-me-downs. A beautiful dress was a beautiful dress. I was happy even without any greetings. I excitedly put on the dress in the bathroom and twirled around, admiring the flowy skirt that twinkled in every turn. I went out to the bathroom, thrilled to show the fit to Carrie and Beta Armad, when I saw Caitlyn on her parent’s lap, rubbing her eyes awake.
I was shocked when her squinted eyes suddenly became wide, and she let out a scream. “No! That’s my dress. That’s the one I wore in my recital! Why are you wearing it? Mommy, Daddy! Did you give my pretty dress to that dirty girl?”
“I thought this was a birthday present.” I said, looking down.
“Mommy, daddy, she’s a thief! That’s mine.” Caitlyn said while pulling on the straps of the dress.
Carrie approached me. “Emery! Why did you put on Caitlyn’s dress? You didn’t think that the dress was your gift, right? You thick-faced child! We even put in the effort to buy you a candy bar and this is what you do. Remove that now and go to your room.”
The time that I was allowed to go out lessened after that. Caitlyn was like the boss of this house. I still remember, back when it was our first day of freshman year, she had rambled on and on about the guy she met from summer camp.
“No, you don’t understand! He’s like the hottest guy I’ve ever seen. He’s got blonde hair and green eyes, and he knows how to play the guitar! Can you believe that? I would give up everything to see him again. I’d definitely have him if we had more time.” Caitlyn spoke in a high-pitched tone.
“I’m sure he also likes you, Caitlyn.” I said, smiling at her.
She groaned. “Ugh did I ask for your opinion? And duh, he definitely likes me. Who wouldn’t? And why am I even sharing these with you when you don’t have any clue about boys and relationships?”
I only nodded at her words. It was the first day of freshman year and the nerves were getting to me. We arrived at the school and walked to our first class. Caitlyn and I were classmates. We both sat down, Caitlyn going to her friends at the back and I, settling down on the middle rows. Chatters filled the room but it was halted when an unfamiliar guy came in. A distinct gasp was heard in the back of the room—it was Caitlyn. “Eric! Here, come sit here.” Caitlyn said. I finally looked up and caught a glimpse of the new guy. His features were familiar, he’s the guy that Caitlyn was talking about.
Eric walked slowly and threw a quick wave at Caitlyn. I thought that he was going to sit by Caitlyn and her friends but I was stunned when he sat down next to me. “Hi pretty, my name’s Eric.”
From that day on, I was homeschooled. By the time we were fetched from school, Caitlyn went on and on about how I embarrassed her and how it was humiliating to be in the same class as her “maid.” She suggested that I should just stay at home and take care of the house, since that would also ease Carrie and Beta Armad’s chores. Unsurprisingly, her parents both agreed, and I’ve been acting as their “maid” for more than a couple years.
I let out a tired sigh as I recalled the past; but instantly felt happiness when I saw the dainty white dress hanging on my closet. This was my mom’s dress, and I never had the chance to wear it until now. I was elated to go to the party and explore the pack house, which I’ve never been to.
I wasn’t originally supposed to come with the Beta’s family to the incoming Alpha’s party, but the current Alpha and Luna contrived a treaty that mandates all individuals from the Northern Packs to attend their son’s special day. I still remember the feeling of delight when the treaty was publicly announced. I couldn't wait to see new houses and new people, especially the incoming Alpha.
Kairo Huxley Ford. I’ve never met or seen him in real life. I’ve only ever heard of him from Caitlyn’s rants about hot guys and when the Anual Alpha Olympiads would be playing on television. He was powerful, undefeated, and good-looking to say the least. He won the Olympiads at the age of 16, becoming the youngest Alpha to ever win the tournament. Because of that, he was given the title, “The Alpha of Alphas,” and many people were looking forward to his future endeavors. I’ve never seen a lot of men, but I could tell that Alpha Kai was definitely one of the most attractive wolves that I’ve ever seen.
I sighed dreamily, holding the white dress to my chest and twirling around the room. I could not wait until tomorrow.
Kairo I groaned as I sat down and watched my mother fussing around our living room, busy preparing for tomorrow's celebration. “Okay, grand piano over there. The Juliet Roses should be a little off-centered, yes. And no, no! Do not put on sage green curtains, I specifically said to bring out the cadmium green ones.” My mother hurriedly spoke while moving around our living room like a busy bee. “Mom, I told you that I didn’t want to have a grand party for my 18th birthday. And why did you have to call out all of the Northern packs when you know I never trust strangers?” “Oh, loosen up Kai. It’s a once in a lifetime experience. It’s not everyday that my little baby is coming of age and finally becoming the next Alpha. And I called all of the Northern packs so there’s a higher chance that you can find
Emery Today was the day. I was awoken by the sound of the birds chirping, their tweets sounding a little sweeter today. I opened the curtains and the sun filled my small room. The weather is perfect for the upcoming event. I brushed my teeth, washed my face, and put my hair in a high ponytail before hurrying down the stairs. I walked to the kitchen and readied the ingredients for breakfast—eggs, bacon, bread, and tomatoes. I whipped up a quick breakfast sandwich for the Beta’s family and pocketed the hard edges of the bread to eat in the bedroom for myself. I hummed as I walked up the stairs, but quickly hid when I saw Caitlyn exiting out of her room. I really don’t want to get on her bad side on this fine day. She gets upset about the littlest matters, especially during the mornings. When the coas
Emery“Quite an entrance you had there. It’s like everyone shut their mouths all of a sudden.” I heard a male voice beside me. I turned my head towards the person and observed his appearance. He was good-looking and very.. I mean, very tall. I only reached up to his shoulders.“Umm.. Hi. I thought my entrance was normal.”“Oh, it sure was.” He said sarcastically. “How come I’ve never seen you before? The name’s Dalton, by the way.”“Emery… I’m not from here.” I lied through my teeth. “I just wanted a change of scenery and I saw the announcement of the incoming Alpha’s birthday celebration on TV, so I decided to come.”
KairoI heard the bustling crowd, the clinking of glasses, and the classical music from my bedroom. My headache became even worse. I did not want to interact with people who don’t give two shits about the pack.“There’s the man of the night!” I heard my door open. I glared at the culprit. “Come on man. This is your party. Come and show those people who owns this night.” Dalton said, shaking his shoulders while entering from my door.I sighed. “Why are you here, Dalton?”“Your mom’s been pestering me all night, man. I couldn't even enjoy the snack bar! Dalton, where's Kairo? Dalton find Kairo! Dalton it’s getting late, fetch Kairo.
MATURE CONTENT AHEAD If you are a minor or if you are not comfortable with this type of content, please skip to Chapter 8. Third Person’s POV In the barely-lit room, the two bathed in each other’s pheromones— the scent of strawberries and wine mingled in the air. No words came out from the both of them, only pants and moans were heard in the room. Emery gazed at Kairo’s eyes. They appeared like the clearest body of water to be found on the planet. She can see her reflection in Kairo’s clear blue eyes. Kairo isn’t normally starstruck by the beauty of women, but the woman in front of him took his breath away. Even looking at her was enough to satiate the hunger that he was feeling in his veins. However, Kairo was not satisfied with t
Emery I woke up with the rays of the sun hitting against my closed eyelids. My eyelashes fluttered as I smelled the familiar scent of red wine. I indulged in the aroma while reminiscing about the events that happened last night. I admit that I was a little bit intoxicated, but I still remember every touch, every whisper, and every piece of pleasure that he inflicted upon my body. I smiled to myself while reaching out to the person beside me— my mate. However, I couldn’t feel any presence beside me, so I reached even farther on the bed but still did not feel the warm body of my mate. I finally opened my eyes and searched the room. There was no one here. I sighed in disappointment. Where did he go? While waiting for his return, I decided to go and wash up in the bathroom to remove the body fluids from the night before. I abruptly stood up, which caused a jolt of pain to travel all the way up my body. I sat down from the pain as I felt a war
Kairo I sighed. Today is not my day. I moved to my walk-in closet and could still smell the strong scent of strawberries and cream. I admit that the smell comforted me, but this matter isn’t just about me. It’s about the entire well-being of the pack. I picked out the clothes that I would be wearing to the coronation as I pondered upon the events that happened yesterday. Some details were still hazy, but I remembered my wolf taking over my consciousness. That was a rare occurrence. I usually never lose my focus. Fuck, is this what having a mate feels like? I shook off my thoughts as I remembered my promise to Amelia. We have been together since the last Annual Alpha Olympiads. I was training when I saw a girl annihilating these goons with her knife skills. More than the person, I fell in love with the skills and felt a sense of security whenever she was around. She’s strong. I could feel it. And she’ll be a great leader of the pack. Moreover, the
EmeryThe coronation was over, and the after-party was in full blast. I made sure to hide away from the crowd. I was not ready to face Caitlyn and… Kairo. I leaned on the railings of the balcony and looked at the stars. However, the serenity of the night was disturbed by the growling of my stomach. I just remembered that I hadn’t eaten anything since yesterday. I sighed; I really wanted something to eat.I decided to satiate my hunger and let go of all my fears. There are many people here. They wouldn’t possibly hurt me in front of hundreds of people. I went over to the feast table and peered over the abundant array of food.I took a plate from the table and started delicately placing fruits on it. I carefully placed down the serving spoons back to their corresponding plates. I didn’t want to ruin the beautiful arrangements. I hummed quietly and happily as I plopped a strawberry in my mouth. I was happily ea
Third Person’s POV On a warm evening in April, the Ford family members are all gathered at one table. Emery prepared their favorite foods, and it seemed like things were going well. They looked like a perfect family, and they are! However, Emery and Laura started talking hushedly and giggling as the dessert was served. Kairo leaned closer to her lovely ladies in an attempt to hear their conversation. Laura turned to her swiftly and scooted closer to her mom. “What are you doing, dad? Can’t you see that mom and I are talking?” Kairo pouted and bitterly ate his black forest cake. “You’ve changed. You used to tell everything to daddy. But I guess you’re too cool for that now.” Laura is now in middle school, and Kairo has been feeling melancholic these past few days. He feels like time is moving too fast, and his once cute children can now live without depending on him. Laura sighed and pushed her seat back in its original placement. “I always tel
Dalton“You signed me up for what?” I asked incredulously as I looked at my group of friends. They were all looking at me with wide eyes, and I couldn’t help but sigh out.Emery fiddled with her fingers and avoided my gaze. “We kind of signed you up for a speed dating event.”I threw my head back and pinched the bridge of my nose. “Out of all things that you could have signed me up for, you signed me up for speed dating? You could have signed me up for a hotdog-eating event, horseback racing, corn tending, you could have even signed me up for a Japanese karaoke reality show, and I wouldn’t hesitate to agree. But this! This is too much!” I said and shook my head.Karina went over to me and shook my shoulders. “Oh, come on, Dalton! All of the events that you’ve suggested are even weirder than the speed dating event! We saw the ad on a very reliable site, so you don’t have to worry about its l
DevynThe birds chirped as I removed the sheets from my body. I wrapped my arms around myself when I felt a soft breeze brush against my bare skin. I let out a deep breath as I felt the bright and vibrant sun lightly hitting my closed eyelids.Wait… Sunlight? Why am I feeling sunlight?I always wake up before sunlight.I jolted up from my bed and checked the time on my phone.8:00 AMWhat the fuck! Why the hell didn’t my alarm go off? I looked at my set of alarms and saw that they were all turned off. I slammed my phone down on the bed and screamed the name of the one and only culprit.“Arlo! You motherfucker!” I screamed while making my way downstairs to find that bastard. He was sitting on the dining table, leisurely sipping his coffee.“Oh! You’re awake. Good morning, brother. Great day, isn’t it?”I walked closer to him and slammed my fist down the table. The mug
ArloI looked at myself in the mirror and could not help but whistle in satisfaction. Staring back at me is the most handsome and charming man that I’ve ever seen. Of course, that man is me. The music in the background only amplified my beauty, and I couldn’t help but look at myself in wonder. However, my self-loving session ended when someone turned off the music. I turned around to scold the culprit and saw my mom.“Mom! What are you doing in my room? Privacy, please!” I said exasperatedly. She gave me a tired look and went beside me. “Arlo, please. I love you very much, and you’re a very handsome boy. But you’re turning borderline narcissistic. You’ve been hanging out too long with your uncle Dalton. I need to speak to your father about this.”I gestured towards my new shoes and complained. “But Uncle Dalton’s a cool guy, mom! He just bought me some new shoes for my first day of s
Third Person’s POVEmery stood anxiously by the door while Kairo bounced in excitement. It has been a while since they’ve gone out on a date, and today, they finally got the chance to do that. Kairo went all out and booked an expensive hotel just outside the city for Emery and him.“Are we really leaving our kids to him?” Emery asked.“Hey! What’s wrong with me?” Dalton asked, distastefulness heard in his voice. “Just look at the kids! They’re so behaved now that I’m here.”After Dalton said that statement, Laura pushed off the contents of the living room table while Arlo chased Devyn with a worm. It seems like the house became more chaotic with Dalton just being there.Emery looked at him incredulously. “Are you serious?” She turned back to Kairo and held onto his shoulders. “Let’s have our date some other time, okay? Maybe when the kids get older.”
KairoToday, Emery is taking Arlo and Devyn to their monthly haircut, so I had to stay at home to take care of baby Laura all by myself. Laura is now three years old, and she’s the most energetic that she’s ever been. She wasn’t awake yet at the moment, so I had some time to breathe for myself.Emery had just finished arranging the boys’ bags when I went behind her to give her a back hug.She chuckled and turned around. She brought her arms around my neck and gave me a peck on my pouty lips. “What are you acting like a big baby for?” She asked softly.“You’re leaving me alone,” I whined.Emery chuckled. “I’m only going to take the boys for their haircut. It’s only going to take two hours at most. Besides, this is going to be a great opportunity for you to exercise your fatherhood. You haven’t even tried being alone with Laura now that she’s a toddler.”
Third Person’s POV Time flew by pretty quickly, and baby Laura is now a year old. Being an exceptional baby, she quickly developed the skills of a toddler, even as an infant. At a year old, she can already walk and write basic letters. She can even hum a tune! However, what is strange among all of these, is that she hasn’t uttered her first words yet. There were plenty of times when it felt like she was finally going to say her first words, but she sure does know how to play push-and-pull. Since everybody’s anticipating her first words, they’ve placed bets among themselves on what her first words are going to be. The group of friends was sitting on the floor in the living room. Along with them were Arlo, Devyn, and the grandparents. Crassus slammed his foot down the floor and intimidatingly looked at all of them. “I’m telling you right now. Laura’s first words will be ‘mama.’ It will always be ‘mama.’ Every other child that I’ve known
Third Person’s POVEmery is currently nine months pregnant, and everyone inside the house has been walking on eggshells. Her belly has protruded so much that she couldn’t even see her feet, and the gang feels like she’s ready to give birth at any time. All throughout the week, there have been many false alarms, and I guess this day was no exception.Karina and Emery were sunbathing near the pool while gossiping about the new human settlers just near the borders.“Did you see the way those girls looked at our mates? I couldn’t believe that they have the audacity to take their numbers when we were literally next to them!” Karina rambled.“Right? And can’t that blondie even see my baby bump? Like hello? You’re hitting on a baby daddy?” Emery rambled with her.“Ugh, it’s so hard being a woman. Imagine! We’re the ones having our periods every month, we’re the ones who&rs
Third Person’s POVThe group of friends was currently sitting down on their living room couch, huddled over Kairo’s laptop. It was pretty late at night, so the kids had all gone to sleep. They were currently watching gender reveal parties on a video platform.Different kinds of snacks were laid down on the table, and only the sound of the videos, along with their munching, could be heard in the room. They were on their fifth video now, but each member’s reaction was still lukewarm. Tired from all the mediocre gender reveal parties, Dalton roughly shut down the laptop and stood up.“I’m sick and tired of these videos. They’re too boring! It’s not enough for the unborn child of the strongest Alpha in the world and a Lycan. We need to go beyond all of these! We need to invite every pack that we can and show the world just how precious your future child is. Who’s with me?” He exclaimed with exaggerated motions.
