Xavier's POV
The sun hung low in the sky, casting it's shadows across the forest ground. I could feel the anticipation building in the air; the coronation was more than just a ritual—it was meant to be a display of power.
"Kael, gather the warriors and prepare for the gathering at Coldfire Forest," I commanded.
The Coldfire Forest was a sacred place, the ground where all previous leaders were crown alpha and matched with their mate. It was the perfect place for my ascension as Alpha.
“Yes, Alpha,” Kael replied with a bow before turning to leave.
“One more thing,” I said, stopping him in his tracks. “make sure everyone is present, including the girl.”
Kael’s eyes widened, he was about to protest but stopped. He knew better than to question me.
With a final bow, he left.
The whispers of the pack echoed in the forest—murmurs about the traitors, the murdered high standing officials, and the daughter left behind. Hazel Myelin.
I smirked at the thought of her—a weak Omega, now involved in a dangerous game. Never in all centuries had an Omega of low ranking done something like this.
It was almost impressive.
The tension of the situation intrigued me. There was something about her that piqued my interest. I couldn't wait to meet this woman.
She should be glad I thought, chuckling, not everyone had such privilege.
That was the only reason I ordered Kael to make sure she shows up.
………
It was finally evening, the moon prominent in the sky and shining directly on the forest. It was a full moon…perfect.
The forest was alive with the sounds of nature as I made my way to the coronation ground. The trees were standing high and tall.
As I approached the clearing, I could see the entire pack members gathered. Women from every corner of the pack were coming all dressed in their best clothes, eager to impress me but not one of them intrigued me even the slightest.
I positioned myself on a raised platform, the ground beneath me low.
The entire forest and whispers from the pack immediately went silent as I took my position.
My entire presence commanding absolute power and attention.
I took a moment to observe the faces before me—an array of hopes and fears, excitement and some of uncertainty.
"Welcome!" The high council elder spoke. "Today marks a new dawn for our pack as we welcome our Alpha back from his slumber. "We shall crown a new Alpha, and with it, we shall reaffirm our strength and unity!"
A growl erupted from the wolves, echoing my sentiments.
"In our tradition, the coronation is not just a formal event; it is a celebration of our bond with one another and the bond with the land we protect." He continued.
The atmosphere shifted, becoming electrified. I looked down at the pack, a reminder of our shared history from our forefathers, my family and now down to me. This was my moment to assert dominance and lead the pack to its highest potential.
“Today, we honor not just our past but our future!” The elder's voice rang out, pulling me back into the moment. “Let the crowning begin!”
With those final words, the wolves erupted into cheerful, loud growls. The council elder approached me holding the ceremonial crown high, placing it upon my head.
With that simple act, I felt a rush of power course through my veins. My senses igniting; it was as if the forest came to life surrounding me, I was no longer just Xavier—I was Alpha. Alpha of the Golden Dawn.
Let the bond be sealed!” the elder declared. Making way for me to locate my Luna.
The women all took their stand. The pack erupted into cheers, the sound like a wave washing over me. Yet, amid the celebration, my heart raced at the thought of the next part of the ceremony—finding my mate.
After that, I would finally be done with all the rituals.
As the tradition states, I would choose my fated mate blessed by the moon goddess. All the young female wolves of the pack gathered.
The energy in the air shifted as the moment approached. I looked around, scanning the faces, searching for a spark. I needed that connection, the electric bond that would signify true compatibility.
Or so they said.
Nothing.
As I locked eyes with each woman in the crowd, I felt nothing no alertness, there was no spark. No flicker of connection, no sign of the bond I was meant to feel.
Their eager faces blurred together, I looked over at their faces again, each praying eagerly that the moon goddess would somehow pick them to be my Luna.
But nothing.
No mate.
I didn't have a mate. Just great.
Just then there was a rustle from the grass in a corner of the bush. A pale young girl covered in dirt and bruises came into view with two men holding her roughly like a mere beast about to be brutally punished.
They stopped in the middle of the forest ground. The entire pack members eyes focused on her, whispered of disgust, and mockery flew round.
‘Is that the girl who murdered her mate?’
‘Is she the daughter of the traitors?’
‘She’s a murderer!’
‘What is she even doing here? she's better off dead’
Whispers flew across the Coldfire, I looked at the young Omega. She was the one who killed her mate? With the way she looked, I doubt she could even harm a forest firefly.
She sat on the ground, tears forming above her eyelids.
I almost felt a glint of pity. Almost.
I couldn't seem to take my eyes away from her petite figure, and it seemed she noticed because she soon started searching the crowd.
Just as I was about to look away, I felt something burn inside of me. The fire was hotter than nothing I had ever experienced. The burn fierce, dangerous, but yet warm and comforting. My eyes finally met with sparkling blue eyes…
Mate.
Hazel's POV I froze at the spot, my heart thumping fast. I couldn't tear my eyes away from his intense gaze. His silver-grey eyes held something that I didn't understand. Is it anger... or is it hunger? Seeing him on the royal platform with the crown, I already know who he is. Our new Alpha Xavier Dyon of the Golden Dawn pack. His presence held the power that I could feel even from the distance that separated us.I've heard rumors about his viciousness and ruthlessness in battle and how little he tolerated traitors and criminals. Even as the late Alpha's son, he has much more blood on his hands than all the Alphas of the other packs put together, as he never hesitates to eliminate anyone who commits any crime in the pack. His masculine, intimidating body build holds an authority that causes all the betas, omegas, and even Alphas from other packs to tremble at his presence. His cold grey eyes give people chills as they hold no expression of his thoughts. As I looked at him again, I
Hazel's POV I trembled in fear as he came near to me, his steps slow and precise. My heart thumps painfully fast in my chest as I await my judgment. This is the end! Is this how I'm going to die? The Alpha passing his judgment directly on me is too much for me to bear. I remembered the stories I heard of the gruesome ways he eliminates traitors in the pack. The horror stories that spread across the pack came rushing back. Alpha Xavier had once sentenced a traitor to a slow, painful death back when he was just the Alpha's son. The wolf has been torn apart, limb from limb. His carcass was left to rot in the forest as a warning to others. As he stood in front of me, I could feel his Alpha energy radiating from his body. It was so strong that it weakened me. I remained on my knees with my head bent to the earth in submission. I squeezed my eyes shut as I expected the worst. I stiffened as I awaited the judgment that he would pass unto me. I pray that he grants me a merciful death that
Xavier’s POVI looked at the frail woman in my arms. Her pale face was ghost-white, and sweat dripped all over her face. She looked delicate, extremely delicate for someone accused of murder.I couldn't have cared less about the shocked gasps coming from the pack members as I carried her in my arms from the Moonstone ground back to my mansion. They can murmur all they want, but they dare not challenge me openly, not unless they are ready to suffer the consequences. Kael followed closely behind, his face showing a mixture of confusion and dissatisfaction. I stopped at the entrance to my mansion, turning to him."Bring the doctor right now," I ordered, my tone ruling out any form of argument."Yes, Alpha," Kael said, bowing as he hurried to do as he was told.Once getting inside, I laid her on the sofa in the grand living room. She was lighter than I expected, her frame alarmingly slim. I stepped back to look at her pale face.Marianna, the head maid of the house, came in, a look of c
Hazel's POVThe soft bed was strange to my body, which was used to the chilly, rugged stone of the prison floor. The warm solace of the bed soothes my sore muscles as I lay down on the bed. With a frown on her face, Marianna checked the cuts on both my knees."You've been through a lot" she said shaking her head, a look of compassion in her eyes. That's an understatement, I thought. "This will sting, but you have to hold tight" she said as she opened the balm that the doctor gave me to speed my healing process.I bit my lips to muffle a scream; tears streamed unhindered from my eyes as she applied the balm to the deep cut on my knees, the sting cutting through my body. "Please, please, stop" I whimpered, holding her hand to prevent her from applying the balm on the other knee. She's a lot stronger than she looks as she keeps both my hands away."Keep still, dear," she said, in a firm but kind voice."Please, let me do it myself," I murmured, my words lacking conviction. I knew that
Xavier's POVShe trembled as my fingers closed around her throat. Her eyes were wide and scared as tears began gushing down her cheeks. She battled defenselessly against my powerful grip."Ple- - ease" I heard her murmur weakly.I came to my senses and abruptly released her. Her hands flew to her neck, rubbing the red marks that my agonizing grip left on her. She gasped and panted for air as she crawled as far from me as she could. Her delicate body shaking with fear."Why..." she croaked, her voice broken. "Why did you...?" she wheezed, gasping for air.I turned my back to her, unable to look at her as guilt crept over me. My wolf snarled inside me, fuming with rage."Why did you hurt her? What's wrong with you?" He snarled.Without a word, I left her room.As I made my way to my study, I thought of what might have happened if I didn't control myself. I might have killed her.I entered my study and banged the door shut with enough force to shake the windows. I settled down heavily i
Hazel's POV I couldn't go back to sleep. I thought about how Alpha Xavier almost strangled me earlier. I rubbed my neck again, still feeling the strain of his powerful grip around my neck. Why did he act that way?One moment, he was kind and the next moment he was cruel. I remembered how he caressed my face when I woke up from the nightmare. His eyes were full with concern and his soft and tender touch caused my heart to falter. Then his eyes went cold and he strangled me almost to death. Is he eccentric? Or is it something darker in play here?Did he really plan on killing me?I shivered at the thought, pulling up the blanket up to my chin. He had already pronounced me as his mate but I still don't know if he really accepts me or not. Does he feel the mate bond too like I do or am I the only one who felt it? Did he pronounce me as his mate just to save my life?Unable to sleep, I kept thinking about him till dawn break. *******In the morning, Marianna knocked the door and en
Hazel's POVHe is the last person I wish to see at this moment and here he is standing before me. Talking about being at a tough spot."Answer me, what in the world are you doing stuck to the door?" he asked, looking at me suspiciously.Kael came out from inside the office, a sly grin spreading across his face. I had come to realize that he hated me, even more so that I'm mated to his Alpha."Is there any need to ask her? We all know the reason why she's here. She's here to spy, to complete what her parents couldn't"."No, no, I'm not a spy, I - - I lost my way," I said desperately looking around me. Alpha Xavier's eyes never left my face. I felt anxious and frightened of his intense gaze, his grey eyes expressionless. "I'm telling you the truth, I got lost," I said, looking up at his cold grey eyes.He said nothing. I wriggled nervously, my heart was thumping painfully fast as I recalled how he nearly strangled me to death the previous night. I still feel the strain of his grip on
Hazel's POVSweat broke on my forehead as I paced all over the little room, my mind disturbed. It seemed like forever before I finally heard a delicate knock on my door. I immediately shot towards the door and Marianna beckoned me quietly, holding a little candle in her right hand. The house was grave quiet, I tried as much as I could to walk softly behind her. We got down to the waste burning pit where Marianna disposed of my torn garments and necklace."We must be fast," she murmured, looking carefully behind her. "If anybody catches us here… ""I know, I'll try to be fast" I mumbled, lifting up my long dress with my hands so that I can walk quicker. The place was dark and the air was thick with the smell of ashes."Start searching for it now, be quick," she whispered sharply, when we arrived there.Dropping down on my hands and knees, I filtered through the heap of trash carefully. Then I saw it, my torn dress lay close to the top, I turned it over, tensely looking for the locket.
Xavier POVThe weight of the decision pressed down on my shoulders like a physical burden. My wolf paced restlessly, torn between protecting our mate and claiming the power that was rightfully hers without her getting hurt. "There is another way," Irina's words cut through the silence of my office. "The power can be consumed by an Alpha wolf."I sat up, alerted at her words, my wolf already rising to the surface. "Explain what you mean by that" I demanded, not as a request but as a command. "The power trapped in this locket..." she held up the silver pendant, its surface sparkling in the faint light. "It can be transferred to an Alpha through another ritual. The Alpha who absorbs its powers would become..." she hesitated, proceeding with caution. "Unstoppable."The thought sent a chill down my spine. An Alpha with the force of four powers combined-- the idea was both enticing and startling."But, that would kill her, wouldn't it?" I asked, already knowing the response.Irina nodded
Xavier POVI watched as Irina's hands trembled when she picked up the locket again and clutched it in-between her hands. She looked as if she had been struck by lightning. I'd seen the witch handle cursed objects and ancient artifacts without flinching, but now her face had gone pale, and something I'd never seen before flickered in her eyes – fear. The terror written all over her face is proof that she felt it too--the locket is not ordinary--it emits power."This locket..." she whispered, her voice trembling as she opened her now reddened palm to reveal the locket. "The power trapped inside it is more than anything I've ever encountered in all my years."I bit back my impatience, my wolf stirring restlessly inside me. "I already know that, I didn't call you here to state the obvious. I need answers!" I demanded. Whatever is happening seems to be caused by this little silver locket and I need to know why.I crossed my arms and stared at Irina as she closed her eyes and chanted unde
Xavier POV.The space between us was filled with tension as I tried in vain to focus on working on the heaps of documents scattered across my desk. But I couldn't concentrate with Hazel curled up on my office couch. Her silver hair framed her small face. And when she absent-mindedly bit her lower lip, my wolf nearly lost it. I remembered how soft her lips felt against mine. I could hardly control the urge to pull her into my arms and kiss her again. I cursed under my breath as I flipped over documents on my desk and tried to get busy. My wolf was relentless, demanding I claim her, mark her, make her ours. But the rational part of my brain knew better – we had a crisis on our hands. There's a missing dead body, strange symbols, and now this mysterious locket. But try telling that to my wolf.I still couldn't believe that I actually suggested she come and stay in my room. I hadn't meant to but the word had slipped out before I could stop it. I was driven by the need to protect her a
Hazel's POV The prison reeked of blood, its metallic stench that filled the air made my stomach churn as we all stood in the prison cell and stared at the empty space before us. “What the hell is this?” Xavier growled, his eyes scanning the empty ground where the body of the dead intruder must have been minutes ago but now contains nothing but dark bloodstains.“I swear, Alpha, he was here, I left his body here, dead and cold.” Kael stammered, his voice already shaky. “Then where the hell is he?” Alpha Xavier growled, glaring at Kael whose face had gone pale with shock.“I don't understand, I left him here a while ago, dead and cold. I saw the markings on his body. A crescent moon with three stars branded on his chest. It was an unusual symbol which I thought you would want to see" Kael said, swinging the torch around the cell, looking around again but the only thing left on the floor was blood stains. I stood terrified, my wolf stirred uneasily within me. Something was very wro
Hazel's POV I had no choice but to tell him everything that happened on my 18th birthday. I began by telling him how my Mom gave me the locket as my 18th birthday gift and how my father warned me never to take it off and even insisted that I wear it when I received my wolf for the first time. I recounted how I ended up as an omega and how I've suffered humiliation and bullying since then. It was my worst birthday ever and I hate remembering what happened and how drastically my life had changed. He listened to me with a rapt attention, his dark eyes watching my every movement.“That's all there is to it” I concluded. “Are you sure that's all?” he asked, raising his brows. “I've already told you all I know” I answered, honestly not knowing how else to explain. “It's a gift from my mother when I turned eighteen” I repeated, my eyes clouded with the memory of what happened that day. “Did she tell you anything about it?”I shook my head. It was simply a birthday gift to me. “No,
Hazel's POV I stood at the door entrance trying to summon the courage to knock on the door. My heart was beating fast and sweat broke in my face. Even though he had not summoned me, I still have to find answers to the questions raging in my mind. I need to know if the intruder broke in because of my locket, is it also related to the threat letter I received last night? I took a deep breath and clenched my fist to knock on the oak wooden door but before I could knock, his voice stopped me short.“Come in Hazel, I can hear you hesitating” his voice broke through from inside the office. Of course, he could sense me with his heightened Alpha senses. I pushed open the door silently and slowly entered the dimly lit office. He stood facing the window with his back towards me, his hands in his pants pocket and he looked as if he's staring into the crescent moon ahead. I looked around the big office, taking in its opulence. The huge wooden bookshelves stood at the left against the wall. My
Hazel’s POVBack in my room. I couldn't stop thinking about him. I closed my eyes, my fingers tracing where his lips had claimed mine. I could still feel my lips tingle where he had kissed me as if his kiss had left a permanent imprint on my lips. His fierce and possessive kiss was unlike anything that I had ever experienced.'You belong to me' his words still rang in my ears.My cheeks burned as I remembered how I had responded to his kiss. I had wanted to resist him, to pull away but my treacherous body betrayed me and melted into his embrace, surrendering to his electrifying touch. But the shocked look on his eyes afterwards made me wonder if he had regretted touching me. He looked as if he saw something strange and unexpected. Why had he kissed me in the first place? I don't even know if that kiss meant anything to him. Did he do it just because he was jealous when I was chatting with Ethan? Or has he really accepted me as his mate?I still don't know where I stand. I know that
Xavier’s POV The delicate feel of her lips, how her warmth saturated deep inside me — it seemed as if my whole existence had been set ablaze. I had not planned to kiss her but I had to shut her mouth when she was boasting about me not marking her. The thought of her talking and smiling at Ethan still burns me with rage. She belongs to me. It wasn't just about the possessiveness that flooded through me. No, it was something more, it was deeper. I have never felt this way about anybody, not even when I had been with Zaria. Yet, with Hazel, it was unique. Her sweet scent filled my nostrils. My wolf stirred inside me, tearing to the surface, driven by the need to completely claim her. But then it happened.I felt her body strain — a rush of energy that wasn't hers flowed through her veins into mine and burned against me. I pulled back and I gazed at her eyes. Her ocean-blue eyes had changed. They were glowing, an unnatural, blazing red that appeared to hold mysteries older than time
Hazel's POV I thought of who could have sent the letter. Was it Elder Albert? The old man has never hidden the fact that he hates my gut. He wants me not only gone from the mansion but dead. Or is it Bianca? I remembered the spiteful way she had treated me yesterday. But why would she send a letter when she could threaten me face to face. Who could it be? I thought back on the locket, how it glowed when Alpha Xavier held it out to me. I have always thought of it as a trinket that holds the memory of my parents, nothing more. But why is it pulsing with energy? What were my parents hiding from me?My mind was restless till I finally fell asleep. *******Morning The knock on my door was sharp, intrusive, and unwanted. I winced, pulling the blankets tighter around myself. My restless night had left me feeling weak, the words in the letter still haunted me. Before I could muster the strength to respond, the door slammed open.It was Bianca. Who else?I rolled my eyes and pulled the b
