I slowly opened my eyes, grogginess clouding my mind. The hospital room blurred around me, but I instinctively searched for Lorenzo's familiar face. He wasn't there. I felt my heart racing like it was about to jump out from my chest.

I glanced down at the IV drip in my hand, the beeping machines, and the hospital gown. Memories of the surgery flooded back. I was thankful it was over, but where was Lorenzo?

A gentle touch on my arm broke my thoughts. Turning to my side, I saw a nurse smile warmly. "Welcome back, Eva. How are you feeling?"

I tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness washed over me. "Easy, take your time," the nurse said, helping me settle back into the pillows.

"Lorenzo?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "Where is Lorenzo?"
