*Selena*

"Where have you been, baby?" he whispered, his eyes reflecting the pain. "I missed you so much." He leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss on the tip of my nose. My heart skipped a beat.

His words seemed to wrap around me like a spell, making me feel weak in the knees. Part of me wanted to surrender to him, to believe every word he spoke. But I knew I couldn't. Not after everything that had happened. The memories of our past, our love, and the hurt came rushing back, conflicting emotions tearing at my heart. As if I snapped out of the trance, I panicked.

"I have to go," I mumbled, trying to break free from his grasp.

I pushed him with all my strength, but he held on firmly, refusing to let go. Our eyes locked, and I saw a flicker of frustration in his gaze.

"Let me go," I demanded more firmly, trying to regain my composure.

Zander sighed heavily, the struggle evident in his expression, before he rolled aside and got off me, finally releasing me from his tight grasp.

The air was thick with tension as I entered, and the grim faces of my team only deepened my unease.“Report,” I commanded, my voice sharp as I approached Freya, who stood examining the scene on the monitors.Freya’s expression was grim. “Alpha, we found several people dead in the peripheral regions. Their bodies were discovered in strange and unnatural conditions.”“What do you mean by unnatural?” I demanded, my brows furrowing.“It’s unlike anything we’ve seen before,” she admitted hesitantly. “At first glance, it resembles a plague, but we haven’t been able to identify the cause or source. The tests are inconclusive.”I clenched my fists, anger boiling beneath the surface. “I didn’t appoint the best team to hear vague explanations, Freya,” I growled, my voice carrying the weight of my frustration. “You’re the best in your fields

“You're not serious, are you?” I gasped, blinking at him as I nervously leaned back while he leaned closer to me.He chuckled and, oh Goddess, the sound was so deep and teasing. “Why do you look so nervous, mate? I just asked for a kiss. That's it.”“You are… you are shameless,” I mumbled, narrowing my eyes at the clear amusement he was taking in my misery.“If anyone else had said that,” he growled, his voice carrying the unmistakable authority of an alpha, “they would’ve been dead by now.” His tone softened just slightly, though his gaze remained intense. “Only you can say such disrespectful words to me and get away with it. And still, you don’t understand—you don’t need to be nervous around me.”Such a big ego my alpha had. Me? Afraid of him? Never. After finishing his food and juice, Austin got up and walked over to his dad. Zander leaned down to give him a gentle kiss on the forehead, and then Austin went to his grandmother. She kissed his cheek as he said goodbye before heading off to kindergarten with the royal driver. I followed him to the porch, where the sleek black Mercedes was parked, watching as he climbed in. Once the car disappeared down the driveway, I headed back inside. When I returned to the hall, I saw Zander and Maddox talking near the entrance, while the rest of the family was still gathered at the breakfast table."Zander, you didn’t get ready?" Maddox’s voice broke through my thoughts, and I glanced at Zander. He was still in his sweatpants and a plain T-shirt, clearly not dressed for work."What’s wrong?" Zander questioned instead of replying, his tone sharp and authoritative. Typical alpha behavior."Nothing," Maddox replied calmly. "I was just thinking if you’re coming to the office late, I can reschedule

Zander took the fruit bowl and began placing cut fruit onto my plate, followed by some eggs and sausages.“This... this is way too much for me,” I said, my eyes widening as I realized there was no way I could eat it all.“Eat more, mate,” he replied, his voice laced with teasing. “These are all your favorites, right? You should eat properly. Otherwise, the people of your realm will start gossiping that their queen’s mate doesn’t take care of her.” The arrogance of the alpha king echoed in his voice, and I couldn’t complain. I had known what I was getting into when I chose to love this domineering alpha king.“You’re only concerned about your new mate and have forgotten your son, Zander,” his mother’s annoyed voice cut through the breakfast chatter, making us both turn to her. Her sharp tone brought my attention to Austin, who was pushing his plate away, his little face scrunched up in irritation.
