Isabella.
I kick open the door and step into the room. I’m here for a clear reason and I’m not skilled at being shy. All gazes turn to me as usual as I waltz into the room but there’s only one pair of eyes that I’m interested in.
Alpha Ryan’s soft blue eyes.
Ryan is standing on the table and two old men are holding him back, meanwhile my brother Ledger is seated directly opposite to him with his legs crossed.
“Am I interrupting something?” I ask. I can’t let my brother keep disrespecting Ryan because Ryan is going to be mine. He stares at me and I can see anger in his gaze. I walk forward undaunted anyway, I already know what to do.
“Isabella?” Ledger asks, losing his careful composure as he scrutinizes.
Ryan turns his back to Ledger and gets down from the table. He takes a seat and the elders take their own seat after him. They all look agitated but I’m unconcerned.
I reach the table and stand in front of my brother. I give him a look that he immediately understands. He had discouraged me from giving in to the mate bond because it may be difficult to fit into the Loren pack but I have my own agenda.
I leave my brother’s side and walk over to Ryan, I stand behind his seat and wrap my arms around him from behind his chair. I feel his body tense but he doesn’t pull away.
“What is the meaning of this?” Ryan is the first to ask.
“I will be following tradition and joining you as your Luna, my dear.” I say with a coy smile. The pack Loren elders all stare at me, some straight up glaring at me while others looking at me with a calculating gaze.
“I’m not your dear.” I hear Ryan say quietly under his breath, just for me to hear. I’ll change that.
Ever since I saw Ryan’s ferocious nature yesterday and the mate bond between us, I knew that I would go any distance to make him mine.
“Don’t do this, sister.” Ledger says from the other side of the table with his palm on his face. He is now sitting up properly.
“I know your relationship with Ryan is strained, but I can’t disrespect his pack by not becoming his Luna as the Moon Goddess has decided,” I say. My logic is sound but my true intention is completely selfish. I have been in love withRyan ever since we were kids.
“My pack was already disrespected by your presence here today,” Ryan says as he dislodges my arms from around him. There is a chill to his voice as he stares directly at my brother. My brother doesn’t back down from his powerful gaze and glares back at him.
An unexpected voice breaks the stalemate, “If Isabella wants to stay she should be able to. As long as there's no direct opposition from our Alpha, it’s what’s best for the pack.” Collins-Ryan’sBeta-says.
“Exactly.” I say as I cross my arms smugly behind Ryan.
“Tsk. If my sister insists then… There is a truce as long as she remains unharmed in your care,” Ledger says as he stands up with his wolves. Ryan remains seated and I can’t see his facial expression from behind.
“I accept those terms on behalf of my Alpha,” Collins says, staring at Ryan to confirm.
Ledger wastes no time, leaving the hall immediately together with his wolves. I’m the only one left behind. Ryan stands up without preamble.
“Dismissed.” He says simply as he walks towards the entrance. I glance at the elders and Loren wolves he left behind and see apprehension on their faces. It is all pointed at me but I choose to ignore it. I’ve had my way this time around. I follow behind Ryan.
Ryan doesn’t say anything to me and I follow closely behind him as he walks through the city to his own residence. Wolves of the pack bow to Ryan as he passes but most of them glare at me and avert their gazes when I turn to face them. I wasn’t surprised that they all heard the news about me from yesterday. I was a striking personality after all.
We finally get to Ryan’s residence and the guards open the door for him. As I try to walk in after him, they move simultaneously and block my way. I glare at them. “Let me in if you want to keep your lives,” I growl at them.
Ryan looks back but says nothing. He turns to walk away which annoys me.
“Let her in,” a female voice says. The guards immediately heed the words and move out of my way.
“Mother.” I hear Ryan say.
“You can retire to your room, Ryan. I’ll show her her quarters,” Ryan’s mother says as she gives me a distasteful look.
I make sure to take note of Ryan’s room as he walks into it. I follow Ryan’s mother and she shows me into my room. She leaves without saying a word and I examine the place. It is suitable but barely; as if they are testing the line of offending me closely.
I take a bath and clean myself up, beofrefinally taking a nap. I wake up in the evening and retrace my steps to Ryan’s room and see guards One guard glares at me but the other replies. “He’s in his office.”
“Where is it?” I ask. The guard gives me directions and I walk off.
I see the door of his office and immediately try the door handle. It opens.
Ryan is sitting on his table but a girl is leaning into him and fiddling with his neck.
“What is going on here!” I say.
The girl jumps off Ryan and I can see her holding a cravat. She glares at me as if I was interrupting her.
“Get out!” I command her. She breaks under the pressure of my gaze and runs out of the room. I notice that she had a very alluring perfume on. It was clearly for special purposes even though she was just helping him tie his cravat.
“What is the meaning of this Ryan!?”
“Hope was helping me with work. Call her back now.”“No. I refuse to let you disrespect me in that way!” I yell.
Ryan stands up abruptly and bangs the table with his fists.
“What respect do you deserve? I only accepted you for the sake of my pack. You don’t deserve anything as the woman who caused my sister’s death!” There is acid in his voice and I shrink back at his murderous intent.
I really hope I survive because it seems like he wants me dead.
Ryan.I glare at Isabella, ready to shift. I feel my wolf whine and fight my will to attack her. I see fear in Isabella’s eyes and it helps me calm down. I close my eyes, take a deep breath and sigh. I sit back down.I look at Isabella and her composure is back. It was as if she had never shown fear. “About your sister, I’m sorry about that but…” Isabella starts talking but I cut her off with a word.“Stop.” I say.Isabella clenches her fists, she’s clearly also holding herself back. I’m not aware of her intentions for coming to my pack but all I knew was that I had to tolerate her for my pack. I had no Luna and it was already public knowledge that she was my mate so I would keep her around. Even with those thoughts in my head, I felt a strong urge to get away from her, before I did anything I might regret later.“I will tolerate you for now. But do not approach me again and it is not your business what I do with my time.” I tell Isabella. Isabella has an angry expression on her face.
Ryan“Good morning, darling. How are you feeling today?” My mother's voice floats in from the open door. Glancing at the doorway briefly, I watch my guards bow as they let her in. Dressed in an emerald green dress, she moves with the type of dignity that has been honed from age.“Mother,” I mutter in greeting as she steps in front of me, bringing up her hand to cup my cheeks.Snapping a finger at my guards, they shut the door to give us some privacy.
