Hours after Melody's father dropped the bombshell on her, she slept soundly in my arms inside the cave. She had refused to go to my parents' place, and ours was a no because it had to be cleaned yet after Daisy bled in the dining and living rooms. I couldn't sleep because I was supposed to be out there searching for Gwen personally, but at the same time I couldn't because I needed to be with Melody.

I couldn't settle until I knew that she would not be a threat to us. I remembered my mom and Astra talking about the protection spell being weak.
