Raina’s POV

Each time Alpha Tristan returns to the pack, it's challenging for me.

As the Head maid of the packhouse, I oversee all the maids and manage everything within the packhouse, from cleaning and catering to welcoming guests. Most crucially, I attend to the Alpha's daily needs.

But everyone here knows I am not only a head maid but also the Alpha's toy, his bed warmer.

After all, Tristan would never forgive the mate who cruelly rejected him.

Tristan and I were best friends before we became mates. His father was the Alpha King but was defeated by our old alpha, who then married his mother and adopted him. A year after their union, they had his younger brother, Dean. Everyone knew the old Alpha would choose his real son, Dean, as his heir. No one cared about Tristan, and no one loved him, including his mother.

I met Tristan in school. He was always bullied badly by other teens. Every time I saw him during break time, there were wounds on his face and body, new and old ones. He was very good at fighting, strong and resilient, and could even make seniors suffer, but he was helpless against too many opponents. The bullies, knowing this, never attacked alone; they were always in a group.

I witnessed Tristan beat a big senior once, Jason the brute. Jason was one of Dean’s followers. Jason was as strong as a bear, but Tristan still beat him, breaking his nose and losing his teeth. In the end, the school administrator had to come forward reluctantly. He asked who made the first move. No one stood up for Tristan until I said it was Jason.

“Jason started it,” I said. I didn’t know what had come over me, but I hated injustice.

I was the Beta’s daughter; I doubted Dean would make trouble for it.

Tristan looked at me, though his eyelids were swollen as if he'd been stung by a bee. He looked at me, and I saw a tinge of gratitude and amazement in his eyes. I guess no one ever stood up for him before. From then on, we became friends.

As the eldest daughter of my family, I understood Tristan's situation very well. We became closer, and when I turned sixteen, Tristan kissed me for the first time.

The feeling was amazing. I was surprised at how soft his lips were. I looked at him, hoping to see the desire in his forest-green eyes, but they gave away nothing, and he remained silent. He just lowered his head and moved closer to me.

"May I?" He asked softly. We were so close that I could hear him swallowing. His hand held mine, and I saw his face turn red, but mine was burning, too.

I nodded, my heart racing as if it was about to fly out of my chest, and then Tristan kissed me again. This time, it lingered.

THE PRESENT.

A chill swept through me as a gust of cold night wind brushed against my skin. Tonight marked Tristan's return to the pack, a night that always filled me with dread. I had been waiting for him in his bedroom, unable to retire to bed.

At last, the double doors creaked open, and Tristan entered his room. Clad in a simple black suit, he ignored my presence. I hastened to retrieve his discarded coat while he headed straight to the bathroom.

Although Tristan had his own building separate from the pack, he sometimes spent the night in the packhouse.

Each time Tristan returned to the Packhouse for the night, it meant punishment for me. I knew tonight wouldn’t be different.

After his shower, Tristan returned to the room.

He denied me permission to leave.

Instead, he took me in bed, his touch harsh and unyielding, devoid of gentleness. He revelled in my vulnerabilities, deriving pleasure from dominating me with ruthless abandon and inflicting pain.

My screams echoed throughout the chamber and into the hallway, a testament to the agony he was inflicting on me. His bite marks marred my skin as I wept and pleaded for mercy.

This was Tristan's way of humiliating me.

Tristan never allows me to stay the night in his room, even when I'm too exhausted to walk.

Because of this, after he was done with me, I dressed quickly, paused for a moment, and left his room when he permitted me to leave.

My body ached, and I could barely walk, but this was my cross to bear. I endured, hoping that it would only be for a while.

On my way back to my quarters, passing by the kitchen, I overheard the night watch maids chatting.

"The Alpha spent another night with Raina. How shameless of her!" one said in a hushed tone.

"I'm not surprised. But she won't be staying the night; she's just a bed warmer. Besides, she does not qualify as a bed warmer since he fucks her in the packhouse. He has never taken her to his bed in his actual home, so we can just call her his whore," another responded, giggling. My pain and humiliation amused her.

"But what if she gets pregnant? We don’t have a Luna yet; maybe the Alpha will forgive her for the sake of an heir,"  the other added.

"That's impossible. Raina is a traitor. She should accept her fate for betraying Alpha Tristan and choosing Prince Dean. I heard she was given wolfbane in prison; she'll never conceive," the giggling voice replied, clearly irritated by the previous remark.

"Then she'll forever be nothing but a shameless whore!" the other maid concluded, lacking conviction in her tone.

Rage burned inside me; I couldn't bear it anymore, so I pushed open the door. All pain and anguish were gone. I couldn’t let them see my pain. One of the maids screamed, frightened that I had overheard them.

"Ah! Head maid Raina, I, I’m…" she started, and I knew it was the voice of the one that mocked me.

I didn't say anything; I went up and slapped them. Their faces were suddenly red, with my palm printed on their cheeks.

"If I hear any of you spreading rumours next time, you will no longer stay in the packhouse. There are plenty of empty beds for you in the slave cells."

"Yes, Yes." The two maids replied and left the kitchen in a panic.

Some part of me knew they were right. Tristan may have loved me once, but since I betrayed him and chose to marry Dean four years ago, all he has left is hatred for me.

I returned to my room. After a quick shower, I glanced at the clock; it was almost dawn. I couldn't help but sigh when I thought about how I would face Tristan tomorrow morning.

Crawling into bed, I immediately fell asleep, dreaming of leaving this hell one day.

Raina's POVWhen I woke up, it was already past eight o'clock. I had been so exhausted that the alarm hadn't even stirred me. I hurriedly put on my uniform and rushed to the kitchen. I was late for breakfast service, and I knew Tristan would be furious. I was relieved when Alison, the head cook, informed me that she had already taken care of the breakfast service. The other servants hardly dared to help me, but Alison, a family friend, was an exception. Having someone who sympathised with me and helped when necessary was uplifting.I thanked Alison and rushed to the dining room, where Tristan was already seated, sipping coffee and reviewing some documents. The room was otherwise empty; his Beta, Alec and the other officers hadn't arrived yet. The two maids from the night duty were setting Tristan's breakfast on the table."I apologise, Alpha, for being late," I said, lowering my head respectfully.Tristan remained silent, and I didn't dare to look up at him."Why did you get up la

Raina's POV I found myself obligated to stay with Tristan and Natasha until lunchtime. They conversed animatedly, Tristan completely engrossed in her presence—attentive, tender, and considerate. I felt invisible, merely a bystander, observing and catering to their every whim. Thankfully, Tristan was summoned away to attend to other affairs, signalling my impending freedom to tend to my own tasks. "Show your Luna her room," he ordered me. "Yes, Alpha," I said because he often took offence if I did not respond properly. He walked away without glancing at me, and I asked Natasha to follow me. While we walked, I minded my business. The look she and her mother initially gave me was reason enough to tell me she wasn't a fan. "I know you have been warming his bed," she started, and I wondered why she needed to go there. "Know that once we are mated, I will make sure your services are no longer needed," she said. I thought of a reply but held my tongue for now. It wasn’t just my life an

Raina’s POVOnce I parted ways with Natasha, I rushed through my chores, aiming to complete them promptly. The day had been busy, and by evening, I had made my way to the kitchen for dinner. Having skipped lunch, my hunger was intense. Upon entering, I noticed the maids exchanging knowing glances, their laughter abruptly ceasing as soon as I appeared. I knew I was the subject of their amusement, but their chatter failed to unsettle me.Now that Tristan was home, I knew no one would take food to my relatives in the slave cells. So I hoped to outlast the kitchen staff so I could sneak food to my family before going to Tristan's bedroom in the packhouse to wait for him. I hoped he wouldn’t come tonight. With Natasha at his house, I hoped I would be spared tonight. Once I noticed the maids had finished eating, I ordered all of them to leave the kitchen. The cook knew what I was up to, but the maids didn't."You have to be careful, Raina. Alpha wouldn't like it. Today is meant to be a m

Raina’s POV They both looked at me, and I felt out of place. "I apologise, Alpha and Luna. I will take my leave now if you allow me," I said, ready to leave. "Stay," Tristan said with a very harsh tone. Normally, I should feel something was wrong, but I was used to the harsh words and treatment. So it was okay. “Natasha told me you tried to hurt her in my home,” he said to me, and I already saw it coming. “Do you have anything to say in your defence?” he asked as if he cared enough to even listen. “No, alpha,” I said, not wanting to bother. I knew how this would go, and there was no winning for me. “It seems you are yet to understand your station in this pack, Omega Raina,” he said letting me know my slave status. I didn’t speak a word. "Natasha, please excuse us, I will soon be home," Tristan said gently, and she grumbled a bit, not wanting to leave. She wanted to be here for it. I doubted she would be able to stomach what Tristan had in mind. I knew it would be sick and tw

Raina's POV.I wasn't released from the cell until seven in the evening the next day. I knew the delay was due to the wedding ceremony, and I learned that Tristan had deliberately kept me locked up so I wouldn’t attend. I was grateful for the kind gesture because attending his wedding would have been torture for me.The wedding ceremony was ongoing, so I stayed clear of the venue. Knowing I would be the last person anyone would want to see there.I went to my room to clean myself up. I was uncertain about my future responsibilities. With Tristan's now married, my duties might shift. Natasha's hostility and false accusations left me sceptical about any improvements. Could I handle it? Was fleeing the only option? But what about my family, particularly my siblings? Given Tristan's monstrous nature, I knew he'd devise something sinister. I couldn't risk their safety out of selfishness. Despite my determination to stay and trust Tristan to honour his commitments, unease gnawed at me,

  • The Alpha's Burning Heart   08 All I had

Tristan's POV Enraged is the best word to describe my state of mind. My father was killed when I was two years old. I have no recollection of him. My mother married the man that killed him. I still have yet to understand her reasons, but I believe there wasn't much she could do to spare herself. It was understandable that she would want to survive and ensure my survival, which might be why she married Darius Black, but everything else that happened after that was inexcusable. Everything that was meant for me was given to my brother. Everything. My mother did not have the decency to hand over my father's money and properties to me. She had no excuse. Darius might have defeated my father and taken over the Ironclaw region, making him the new King. He was naturally entitled to everything that came with the office he occupied, but his son was not entitled to my father's personal properties and wealth, especially things that were kept in my name. My mother handed everything over.

Raina's POVI remained fixed in the mirror, looking at Tristan’s mark on my neck. As much as I dreaded what would happen, the memories of how he touched me throughout the night warmed my heart. Could he be changing? But if he was, why did he get married? I was confused and longed for clarity. Knowing I had wasted too much time already, I tied my neck with a scarf to cover the mark and decided to resume work.I ventured outside and found one of Tristan's men at my doorstep. He wasn't a pack member but one of the outsiders who had aided Tristan in seizing the throne from Dean. I often wondered why these men were not given higher positions and why Tristan chose to elevate pack members instead. But such thoughts were not my concern."From now on, you report for work at Alpha Knight's house," he said. Not sounding condescending like Alec and the other officers. Sometimes, I think they pitied me, but my mind might be playing tricks on me."Very well, I will make my way there," I replied, and

The other regions were not impoverished as the dead kings had feared, but wealth was evenly distributed, and more opportunities were created. The Nighthowler territory was being built, and it was almost completed. Former Nighthowlers emerged from everywhere to come home, and Tristan built his palace there. We had recollected most of our promises and fulfilled the ones within our capacity. One of the most surprising things that happened after the battle with the evil kings was finding out that Alisia and Dean were fated. While Tristan discussed with the allies of the other royal families that had helped us take down the Kings, Dean walked to me to talk. It was an inevitable discussion, and I didn't know what angle it would take, but I braced myself for it. Clutching the robe around my body, I waited for him."Hey," he said, and I looked at him. We hadn't spoken since he woke up, and to think Alisia and I were the ones that found them."Rainy," he said, calling me how he referred to me often."I guess fate never lies," he said, and I looked at him. His eyes had a sadness and longing that I knew I could never alleviate."I never got to thank you for saving me and my mother. Alec told me how you and Alisia risked your lives to save us. I am grateful," he said, and I nodded.

Luckily for them, Tristan had kept the place clean, so it wasn't in disrepair, and Luna Elisabeth could easily move in.
