My eyes widened at Alpha Leader, Varick, in the flesh and not another case of hallucination. I felt my throat dry, my heart raced faster than normal as I started to experience another dose of an incoming attack.
‘Deep breath, deep breath… you knew he would be coming back soon.’
I glanced at him carefully. Dark hair grew longer, unwashed and scruffy from the lack of care. He fashioned a beard, unsurprisingly untamed and his dark gray eyes observed the area. He was wearing his signature armor and it was more worn than it used to be.
Once again, he was tainted by vermillion blood.
Blood of the other wolves he had slain while he was away.
His eyebrows furrowed, seeing my lack of response ticked him off as he tightened his grip, bringing me back to my senses.
It stung. The grip made me flinch as I tried to wiggle my hand away from his tight lock.
“I hate repeating myself. Why are you here?”
“I…” I should think quickly or else I would only rouse his anger. My eyes wandered elsewhere, trying to avoid his gaze or else I would faint.
“I w-went here for fresh air a-after I bought dinner.” I raised a basket of the produce as evidence.
“That is not the Luna's job, church maid,” he growled, then he paused for a moment. “You didn’t come out to break our deal?”
“OF COURSE NOT!” I blurted out loud. Doing so only made me turn to his direction and facing a centimeter closer to him.
The proximity made me stunned and unable to speak as my face turned pale at the closer look of my…husband.
He raised his brow, showing a glint of his surprise of my outburst but he didn’t say a word.
However, seeing him right in front of me only made it worse. As I felt myself gagged. I unconsciously covered my mouth as a small amount of green spew slipped through my mouth.
I felt myself flustered, having vomited in front of the alpha leader and proceeded to move the alley before throwing up some more.
Feeling a bit better, I turned to him and his face showed an expression I knew so well.
Disgust.
No words exchanged between us as I was more humiliated to express more excuses. I turned away, more ashamed that I had disgraced myself in front of him.
Suddenly, a hand grabbed mine and the Alpha leader didn’t hesitate to drag me out of the dark alley.
I gasped, realizing he was holding the hand I was touching in my—
“L-Let go of me, please…” I pleaded as I clenched my fist out of shame. The stench should disgust him yet, gripping my hand, infested with my own bile, didn’t faze him at all.
He didn’t comply as he just walked faster. Soon, we reached the marketplace and our pack kneeled down before the Alpha Leader showed his presence.
He didn’t stop to greet them and just passed by them. He continued to pull me on his way, to the path heading to his house on the hilltop.
We passed by the group of warriors who were weary and mostly injured from their battles and they only came to stare at us.
But one of the warriors approached us.
“Lord Varick—”
He grunted giving him the “glare” and his man backed away.
Soon whispers and snickering from the pack of wolves were heard as we passed by and I turned red. Their eyes landed on my direction and it was clear as day they were wondering about the luna of the pack.I lowered my head, carrying my dress to avoid tripping since my h-husband only fastened his pacing.
What in the name of Hati did he want from me?
But the sooner we left the marketplace, we heard the roars and applause of our returning heroes.
“It’s Lord Varick!”
“He won!”
“Even the Elves couldn’t defeat him!”
It was the first joyous marketplace I’ve heard about for a long time.
I looked at the Alpha leader and he didn’t seem to care about the noise.
For even things like this, he still didn’t show an ounce of happiness.

When we arrived, he headed straight to the bedroom and threw me on the bed. I gasped, sweat drops falling from my forehead and I knew what he was going to do next.
My eyes widened as I scurried back until I felt the touch of the bedpost behind and I shook my head.
No, please. Why so soon?!
Varick read my mind as he took off his gauntlet.
“I didn’t sense another living being in you,” he said, nonchalantly while he continued to remove the heavy armor around him.
I shook my head even more.
“C-Can we not do it today? I’m n-not r-re-ready…”
I could die from this pain if we do it the second time! I silently prayed Hati’s Original Prayer once more in my mind, hoping to appease him.
He stopped undressing midway.“An heir should be born if I perish in battle. What good can a pack do without a new leader?”
It astounded me that my husband talked about his death so casually.
But why did he say that when he returned victorious?
He sat on the bed next to me. “You—”
His hand—the same cold hands of that night, touched my shoulder and the memories kept repeating on my head like a broken recorder.
I was overwhelmed with a strong feeling of fear and anxiety and I couldn’t breathe… He said something but I was too engulfed with words, words that sounded like mine.
Which kept repeating in my head.
He’s going to violate me. He’s going to violate me. HE’S GOING TO VIOLATE ME!
“NOOO!” I screamed. Like they have a mind of their own, my hands pushed him away from me. So I could finally get some air and some space to calm myself down.
I shut my eyes, my face paled from the anxiety that returned yet again just by being next to him.
THUD!
When I heard it, it snapped me off from my trepidation as my eyes slowly lifted open.
He wasn't moving at all.
I reluctantly turned and moved my body nearer to the edge of the bed to see the Lord Alpha lying unconsciously on the ground.
His eyes closed shut and there was look of discomfort on his expression that showed his vulnerability for the first time.
“W-What?” I spewed out my own utter surprise.
What just happened?
I raised my trembling hand and touched his cheek.
After the touch, I gasped and I retrieved my hand away before covering my mouth from the utter shock.
“How can that be?!” I gave a panic-stricken shriek. My hands trembled.
It was impossible! There was no way it was possible!
That the strongest alpha of the pack, our Alpha Leader, was lying dead before me.
Okay, calm down, Rosaria. It’s impossible for him to die with a shove like mine. He had been through a lot from this endless war and it would be…laughable if he would have died from a measly push from a lower ranking luna. I tried to calm down and now I was eyeing him carefully. I took a deep breath before placing my trembling hand on his wrist, ignoring my hallucinations of the hands around my waists as I tried to check his pulse. It was faintly weak. Weak but not dead! I sighed once more but more relieved than earlier as I tried to decipher what really happened. His face is pale, giving off an impression of a lifeless body that I assumed earlier. And he…wasn’t breathing at all. ‘They brought the Elves to slaughter the Alpha Leader! The messenger had stopped coming back here since that announcement.’ I recalled Naureen mentioning them and a realization came to my mind. Now with his dark gambeson, I muttered an apology and pulled out his heavy garment from his head. I turned re
A long time ago before wolves ever landed on earth, there was the Moon Goddess, an unknown entity residing on the moon, and her brother, the Sun God. Two mythical wolf gods were formed after Fenrir, the first recorded wolf, left them on Earth. These were moon wolf, Skoll, and sun wolf, Hati. Skoll was attracted to the sun and chased after it whereas Hati, whose motives were unknown till this day, chased after the moon. When Hati finally caught the moon, he swallowed it whole, making the chosen wolves lose their ability to transform. “What?” I interrupted and I gave a skeptical look at the image of Hati. “Why would the sun god do that, Father Gossep?” I was five years old when Father Gossep told me this story. Father Gossep chuckled as he patted my head. “Hati only wanted to cleanse the Moon. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have the moon now if he would have eaten it.” “Why did the sun god need to cleanse the moon?” “Some recorded stories stated that the moon had been corrupted and Hati
When I woke up, it was already dark. The discomfort I felt came from the hard concrete floor where my body lay after I fainted, which had brought me back from my sleep. Another was experiencing a different kind of pain, rather it was more of discomfort, that was spent from the magic I used beyond my limit. Oh right, I thought to myself. I turned to see the Alpha leader sleeping on the floor next to me, I should bring him to bed. It was the least I could do after he fought the war for our pack. However, when I tried to lift my body, I couldn’t move. Perhaps this was the consequence of using an advanced spell. It was a miracle that I successfully extracted the poison without fainting midway. I was glad that I secretly practiced the Lycan scrolls during my youth. I sighed as I relaxed on the floor and I felt awkward being next to the man who was responsible for this. Speaking of which, what was that earlier? I was mixed with a lot of emotions that overwhelmed every ounce of logic.
I continued to sob as I laid in a fetal position on the other side of the bed. I attempted to hide my despair yet my body continued to shake from the feeling of his essence still inside of me. Anger and humiliation only roused these tears as I wiped them, feverishly. A woolen blanket was placed on top of my bare, defiled body and I grimaced. “I don’t need your pity, Lord Varick.” “Ah, so you do have some backbone left. I thought you church maids were like lambs, blind followers of a deceitful shepherd.” I didn’t answer as I was overwhelmed with the tears flowing once more. “Crying is for the weak, what do you gain from it, woman?” “WHOSE FAULT IS IT THAT I FELT LIKE THIS?!” I yelled but the effect only made my swollen cheek hurt. “You cried over a trifle deed,” he says, coldly. “This pain wouldn’t be nothing compared to childbirth.” Words of mockery only sparked more anger as I gritted my teeth. I was certain he had no idea what childbirth felt and he had no right to lect
“Shall I wash your hair, Lady Rosaria?” Lenalee asked as she caressed the strands of my hair. “Ah, n-no, I can do it my-myself,” I stammered and I quickly pursed my lips before I uttered another humiliating word. She had a look of a small, whimpering dog after my response. “I understand, my lady.” And I felt my heart being torn from seeing her expression. But then again, I allowed her to bathe me and that alone was humiliating enough. Since coming here, I thought I was fine doing what I needed to do as I was capable of cooking and cleaning on my own. The maids were silently glad that they didn’t need to attend to my needs. After all, we the noviates are capable of doing them and independence was one thing we were taught growing up. But now, the Alpha leader sent them home and was replaced by one young maid. I didn’t understand his way of thinking anymore. She used a warm towel to wipe the dampness of my arm. I caught sight of her staring longingly with admiration before she
I hadn’t seen this marketplace so bustling and alive before. There were street performers dancing to beautiful foreign music, the bars were even open during this day as the men were frolicking every opened bar, taking all the tables. So the barmaids had to add more tables outside. When one of them caught sight of Varick, he raised his arms and greeted him. “LORD VARICK! It’s rare for you to be outside!” An old man with a brown eyepatch stood up as he patted his back. When he caught sight of me, I flinched and stared on the ground. “I take it you were having fun with your luna last night?” My eyes widened at such awkward familiarity and I looked up, waiting for Lord Varick’s response. He shook his head as he frowned. “You’re drunk even when the sun’s up, old man. Be grateful that the enemies weren’t here to strike us now.” “My lord, don’t forget to enjoy every now and then. You’re still young, after all.” His eyes darted on me before he grinned. “Make sure to keep him happy, Hati
So how could I describe my husband after our rare encounters? He was a monster who attacked my adoptive father, forced me into this marriage just because the Moon Goddess gave her answer to the Seer, defiled me not once but twice on two separate occasions and now he said he didn’t desire me. I may not be knowledgeable about the lovemaking process, but after some visits to the library, it was clear how it should be done.We “both” didn’t enjoy this, and we just hated each other more than I thought. It was all for the sake of impregnating me and seeing how people were receptive to his death was a normal occurrence in the Skollist pack. After all, before him, his ancestors didn’t live to see their child grow older and that was why Lord Varick who finally had his fated mate, needed an heir as soon as possible. You could say I both hated and pitied him. It was a confusing feeling right now.I sighed as I leaned on the largest oak tree in the middle of the marketplace. Lord Varick had left
The sun set south and it felt like a perfect end to the vibrant day of the pack’s celebration. The wolves went back to their shops, busying themselves with the routine of closing their designated businesses. The pack were both satisfied and weary from both the dance and the food and booze they stuffed all day long. With their earlier stares were no longer my worries as I was distracted from the stories this man, Kozart, was telling me while we were sitting under the oak tree. All his adventures were nothing but fascinating in my ears. Like I reverted back to my childhood of hearing Father Gossep each night with his exaggerated stories of his youth. But unlike my adoptive father who enjoyed giving me the thrill of his imagination, Kozart seemed to tell me things based on his true feelings of each of his adventures.“It was a myth that mermaids seduced men. Contrary to popular belief, they prefer women as they could make females of any race become their own.” “Is that how they reproduce
Warning: implied sexual child abuseVarick’s POVI despised the thought of resting. It is the time when I’m the most vulnerable that anyone could easily slit my throat. So, I’ve always trained myself to be wary of my surroundings even when my consciousness drifted to its slumber. But it wasn’t what ticked me off. Rather, I wouldn’t mind being killed in my sleep if anyone dared to do so. It was the dreams that continue to haunt me. Dreams of old realities that I locked in my memories.Sometimes I dreamt of the time of that night after my marriage with Rosaria. Bounded by fate that I couldn’t escape, I thrusted my anger and self-loathing into her while I forcibly took her chastity. Anger on the fate given to me as I would die an inevitable death and to everything else that happened before the revelation. As soon as I poured my first seed into her unwilling womb, she murmured something under her breath and I pulled her away, catching a glimpse of her lifeless eyes before I stormed out o
“PHINEAS!”The sound of my voice reached his ears like a thunderclap, making him jump from his seat. The moment I entered his tent, his robes were drenched and stained with red wine. “Have I called you at the most inopportune timing?” I shouldn’t have asked, seeing Phineas in a foul mood, I knew I shouldn’t bother him at this hour. Seeing bottles of alcohol on the table, he had been drinking the entire time. He squeezed the bottom part of his robes while continuing to glare at me.“What?” It must be the alcohol talking but his cheeks were flushed red—but then again, it could be because his anger pointed directly to my direction. “Sorry, Phineas but it would be great if I could speak to you alone. Could we teleport somewhere else?” I whispered as I glanced at the tent outside, hearing the voices of gossiping women and children playing around didn’t give us any privacy at all.He immediately noticed the change of my expression and despite overdosing with alcohol, he recovered to sobr
It took them months before they took all of their Skollist pack members and hid them all in the large grotto where they knew they were safe. Just as suspected, more of the nuclear bombs dropped from the sky and directly to their vicinity and the area was nothing but a wasteland. Nearby packs and other races had long fled from their homes from the toxic fumes reaching their territory and begged to move across the borders and away from the war. But the Red Moon Pack wouldn’t give a damn. They only wanted what they were meant to do in the first place: To eliminate Skoll’s descendant along with his pack. And so, all hid in the grottos, the swamps and the forests hidden from the human eye. And they feared the worst that the more they threw those “bombs” into their land, the lesser chance of making the area inhabitable. The Skollist wolves had gone defiant that some had gone rogue and begged the wolves across the border to enter—only to reach their demise as they were kil
"Do you actually believe that elf, my lord?" Perturbed by the events, Herschel asked the second time after they departed. They walked back to the grotto whereas the elf known as Verona embarked a quiet journey back home. "Whether I believed her or not, the fact that the atomic bomb was true. If they strike again, most likely they will strike our kingdom first."And there would be no pack to protect if all failed. "These bombs…even this is beyond my expertise," he murmured, apprehensively. "What must we do to stop the bombs, my lord?""Humans are aware that they do not wish to interfere with magical beings and their affairs. They are supported by the Red Moon Pack. If we kill its Alpha, they have no reason to attack us."For now.“What about this human bard she spoke so highly of? Why did he save us, my lord?”Varick's lips pursed yet his feet didn't stop heading back to the grotto. All of his years, the Alpha of the Skollist pack often speaks with his mind. When he
It had been twenty minutes and there wasn't any progress in healing the mages. Their burns and their exposure to the explosion had been too difficult to heal them, let alone those who were unwilling to be touched by me. In fact, I couldn't as the chemicals and toxic scent might be contagious. So, Phineas and I made a wind barrier to avoid spreading the toxin around the pack. Yet, even so, I had to hurry or else the rest of the soldiers' lives would reach their inevitable end unless I made haste. "Please…let me die…" These agonizing words continued repeating in between their groans. Yet, I continued chanting the Holy Lycan spells, avoiding a single second of distraction as I tried to repair the soft tissues of their burned skin. Yet, fixing a charred skin to its original form would take hours for a single man. I started to doubt I could save them all. 'No, I shouldn't think like this! These men deserved to live!' I thought as a trail of sweat irritated my eye as I continued
Hello, The book will be on hiatus for the time being. I'm sorry, readers but I will return once I've sorted some stuff soon. Stuff happening lately and I didn't want to write something that wouldn't be interesting for all of you. Thus, I would like to take a break for a while. However, the update will be staggering and I won't be updating daily like before. I hope that's all right. I love this book but for the time being with the burn out I'm feeling, I'd rather pause and continue once everything is fine. Once again, thanks for your support for reading this book. Sincerely, Aly Wrights
“Phineas, send us there now!” Yet, Phineas stood there, petrified like his eyes stared at the smoke before him. I grabbed his shoulder and violently shook him to regain his senses. “We have no time, Phineas! Varick is—!”“No, we can’t.”At first, his cold voice surprised me before I glared at him. “Why not? We are the healers, aren’t we?!”Phineas turned to glare at me. “Luna, don’t let your emotions sway your decision! You can use your canine senses, right?!”As soon as he mentioned it, I sensed it. The scent was faint yet I could recognize it so well. I didn’t realize the lingering smell of a mixture of decaying bodies and toxins around the area. It made my stomach churned as I knelt on the ground.I rushed to a nearby bush and vomited. I was holding my breath for too long and when I came to my senses, the scent was so agonizing that I knelt down and threw up.“I can’t risk you going there, Luna. You are carrying the heir of the Skollist pack and something tells me coming closer w
Varick clenched his fists as he glowered. Some of his men stepped back as their wolves whimpered. This was supposed to be a surprise attack, yet, why were they the ones surprised. In Varick's mind, someone–within the pack–relayed a message of their incoming strike. It wasn’t common to have his own men betray him in exchange for being spared from death. Yet, none were successful to ever live after the betrayal. "This will be the day we will kill you, Varick!" Cassius, the Alpha of Blue Fangs bellowed. Varick didn't respond as he threw out his sword and shield, making the enemy side "think" he surrendered. No, wolves who personally fought him knew that his armor was more of a disability of his. And now, the Alpha decided to strip himself off his armor, showing his chiseled body with his battle scars. The enemy packs roared in laughter."Surrendering yourself naked? I see the Neanderthal finally learned to give up!" One of the betas commented. Herschel gave a ghost of
They had finally arrived at the gated vicinity of the Red Moon Pack. They camped within the grotto within the waterfall as it was a great place for their hidden base. The pack also removed every trace of their tracks behind. Horses were situated outside the grotto and three of the troops acted as guards and feeders for the stallions. The tents were placed as their temporary residing station. It was at night time when they arrived and they lit a bonfire inside. They made sure the vicinity was being protected by the High Mage's magic barrier to avoid tracing their scent. All men, weary from moving on foot, sat on the ground as they were waiting for the Alpha to make his speech. As they knew this war would be the first they decided to strike. In the past battles, a fight between them and the other packs happened when the outsider decided to strike them first. Now with the successful invasion and the innocent lives died through an unknown cause, in their minds, st
