Alana’s POV

“Get ready ladies, the auction is about to start.” One of the waitresses backstage called out, inspecting the outfit that we were wearing. I always wondered why they called them waitresses until I realized that the men behind the curtain didn’t take us as humans. They took us as meals that they were going to take home and use for the rest of our lives.

I could see the fear in each girl’s eyes as they prepared for the moment we were terrified of. Each of us was bought directly from orphanages. When the deans realized that we weren’t going to be adopted and we had reached adulthood, instead of letting us leave on our own, they would bring us to this annual auction where we were going to be sold to rich men and alphas. The most disgusting part about all of this was that it was legal.

No one thought of protecting us, the fresh adults with innocent minds, to start up a career or continue with school. For me, it was medical school that I wanted to go to. I got admitted to the medical school of my dreams which was in a nearby pack. I was all set for it until the dean of my orphanage told me that he didn’t have money to put me through college even as a debt, which was a lie. He was just a greedy old man that was looking to make money through us.

Today, the three of us were going to be given out. I, Tara, and Sasha were going to be sold in this auction. Both of them were twins and had just turned eighteen yesterday, unlike me who has been eighteen for over two months now. Both of them were shaking as they spoke to each other in hushed tones. My heart bled for them because this was the first time that they were ever going to be away from each other in their lives, if they got sold to different men.

“It is time.” Another waitress returned from the hall where they were going to showcase us, and the one inside who spoke earlier nodded.

“Now, you know the rules. Stand there, look pretty, every tear shed means whooping you before you leave and you talk nicely to the men or else you would be taken to an even intense auction filled with monsters, other than just these wealthy alphas. Is that understood?” She asked.

We all answered her in unison before she smiled and put us on a line. There was a board placed on all of our necks and my stupid luck was that I was the first one to go. I guessed I was the oldest here even though all of us are over the age of eighteen with a few weeks. I was the first one that was called into the stage, and I walked until I was in the center, the bright light around us flashing directly on me and blinding me from seeing the men on the other side of the hall.

I could feel the footsteps of the other omegas on sale walking as we stood in a straight line.

“Welcome to the annual omega sale in the shadow pack,” the emcee spoke, his voice blaring through the speakers in the hall. “We gather here today to sell out these women who have come of age so you could give them the best life attainable.” He announced.

I nearly rolled my eyes. That was definitely what they said when deep in their minds they knew what they were going to do with us when they eventually bought us.

“So, we should get started. The first girl, Alana Pierce, please come forward.” He announced.

I nodded before I took a step forward, and the spotlight was suddenly on me.

“This beautiful lady turned eighteen two months ago. She is resourceful, smart, and aspires to be a housewife for her future husband or master. She is going for 4000 dollars.” He announced.

I cursed under my breath. I had never told anyone that, but I guess they would twist my story however they like to make me more desirable to the men sitting in front of us.

“5000 dollars.” The first bid came in. “6500 dollars.” The second.

“6700 dollars.” The third.

“10,000 dollars.” The last one.

The entire hall was silent as they turned to face the man who was willing to spend such an incredible amount of money on an omega auction. The lights dimmed away from me, and I made eye contact with the man sitting in the crowd who I assumed had just bought me. He looked like an innocent old man with kind eyes, which made me wonder what the hell he was doing here.

“Alana Pierce is sold to Alpha Matthew for 10,000 dollars.” The announcer said, and the crowd rolled into cheers and claps.

I was dragged away by one of the waitresses and was taken to the back where I was going to be processed. I was met with the dean of my orphanage whose smile was the biggest I have ever seen in my life. It was the look of the man who just had this wealth multiplied in a matter of seconds.

“Congratulations, Alana. I knew you were going to make me proud.” He smirked as we went to where the payment was going to be made.

“Go to hell.” I spat, knowing that he was never going to see me again. He had destroyed my life for money that was going to be finished and he had the guts to look at me like he was proud of me.

His eyes went wide as one of the guards of the alpha came and paid in gold before one of the waitresses blindfolded me and took me out of the hall. Once we were out, it was ripped off my head and I stared up at the convoy in front of me, my heart rate starting to quicken because of the dread of what lay ahead of me. I felt my eyes sting with tears as I marched up to the car and the door was opened up for me on the seat behind.

I got in, and Alpha Matthew, the man who had bought me, was seated beside me. There was a kind look on his face as he watched me get into the car, and then the door was closed beside me.

“Alana.” He called out. I tried to find any trace of lust in his tone but I couldn’t find any. He sounded like a father speaking to his daughter, his tone soft and fatherly.

“Alpha Matthew.” I replied.

“You must be confused about why I had bought you, and why I paid such a ridiculous amount of money for me.” He said.

I hadn’t. I figured he just had to be a creep with too much money in his bank accounts but now, I didn’t feel so because he didn’t give off that energy to me.

“Yes, I am,” I answered him.

He nodded, smiling as he looked away from me. He fished out something from his pocket and handed it over to me. I collected it and stared at it, shocked when I saw the woman in the picture who looked exactly like me, just that she was a much older version. How did this man know me and what does he want to do with me? The possibility that the lady in the picture was my mother, and he might have known my parents hit me, and my chest constricted.

“That is your mother.” He said.

“I can see that. How...how did you know her?” I choked out.

“She was my best friend. My first beta. She had you out of wedlock and she put you in an orphanage right before she was killed by her family members for having an affair with a man before they got married.” He explained.

My head started to dizzy up, his words registering in my head. “How did you find me?” I asked him.

“She put you up in a home and asked me to take you back with me when you reach eighteen years old and adopt you as my daughter because she didn’t want her family to find you. I understand if this might be too much for you to take in.” He said.

I was quiet, slowly processing all of this. Where and who was my father and why hasn’t he come to claim me before this man did? Was something wrong with him or did he choose to not find me after what had happened with my mother? So many questions were running through my mind with no answers.

“It is.” I breathed out.

“But, I am going to take you to my pack. That is going to be your forever home and if you want, I could give you a start-up to live elsewhere if you don’t want to stay with me. My point is you should know that you will always have me. I have looked after you since you were a child and now, you are going to be like a daughter to me. The daughter of the alpha of the shadow pack.” He said.

I wasn’t a fool. I might want to leave and start up my life elsewhere but I knew I needed as much support as I could have when I was going to start college. Now that I knew one of my parents was out there, I had to do everything I could to find him, so I muttered the answer while hoping to not regret it once we arrived at his pack.

“I will stay with you.” I told him. He nodded with a little smile on his face as we made our way to the pack. I tried to crack my brain all through the ride to at least see if I could remember ever seeing him but everything was blank. I couldn’t remember him but he said he had been looking out for me, and I believed it because now that I thought of it, my life wasn’t as bad as some of the kids back at the orphanage in terms of feeding in clothing.

He might be the angel that I thought was looking down on me all those years after all.

Alana’s POVThe drive back to Alpha Matthew’s pack was long but was not boring. He filled me in with how my mother was his best friend all of his life until her parents decided to do that to her. He told me about how heartbroken he was, and how he tried so hard to bring her back with the help of witches but there was no way to bring her back and all of his attempts were futile. The way he spoke about her, it felt like I had known her too. Our faces were so similar that I was sure she looked exactly like I did when she was my age.I wished I had met her, and it aches my heart to know that I would never meet her. The only thing left to do was find my father now so I could at least have a relationship with one of my parents.“And we have arrived.” He told me.The door was opened for me and I got down, my eyes widening at the sheer size of his palace. This was the first time I had ever been to a palace, and it surpassed my imagination. It was tall and majestic, with towers holding it and

Somewhere along the way, I realized that I had feelings for her and they were mutual. I didn’t know why I thought it was a good idea to explore a romantic relationship with my best friend but I did, and it was good at first. We convinced ourselves that it could be something bigger even though the both of us hadn’t had our mates yet and we thought that the mate bond was going to come sometime soon. But after a while, I realized that it was wrong. We were not going to get a mate bond because we were not soul mates. I could feel it in me that we were not, but Ava was not going to allow me to break up with her. She was still in love with me but sometimes, I doubted if she was or if she just wanted to be the future queen of the pack because I was set to inherit the thron

Alana's POV. I knew after the news that Alpha Matthew declared at the dining room, I couldn't calm myself down. My spirit was elevated and my stomach was bubbling with blue butterflies, so I decided to tour around the house. I kept moving from one room to the other, amazed at how splendid and elegant everywhere is and like a dream come true, this is my life now. No reason to sleep each night and be scared of what my future would be, at least I hoped.I was finally going to be a pack doctor. As the thought swirled in my head like a whirlwind, I stopped at the entrance of a room in the hallway. It was on the same floor as my room, so I didn't see any reason not to explore it.My eyes drifted around, and when I didn't see any guards or hear any sound, I walked inside. "Wow." My eyes popped wider at the interior decor. Whoever chose the decoration of this room had good eyes, from the king-sized bed with a lining of red bed sheets that blended with the walls of the room to the dark brow

Alaric's POVI changed into a vintage shirt and a short that stopped above my knees, and rested on the bed. My hair flopped over my forehead while my spirit felt denounced.Right after Alana left, something in me cracked. I had no idea why I was a dick to her or why I had to be repulsive when she hadn't done anything to deserve it. Perhaps I was trying to hide something sprouting deep in my blood, and in the process, I got rude. I began to hate every word I spilled as my mind replayed them for me.In fact, now that I think of it, it was as though I was another being around her. I had felt vulnerable, and all I could resort to was being harsh. Realizing that I couldn't concentrate on anything, I snapped my eyes shut, and that didn't help either. My body remained trapped in my train of thought. The door was still open, so I went there and looked out, a part of me hoping that I'd see Alana there, but she wasn't. After I slammed it close, I branched to the balcony and sat on the armless

Alana's POV.Stifled, I turned off the shower and picked myself up from the ground. Ever since I left Alaric's room, I haven't been well. I have thought of many reason why he was cold to me but my brain couldn't figure it out. He was just harsh and unresponsive. I realized the water was starting to dry on my body, so I roll a towel off the rack and went back into the room. My heart was wounded, especially at the fact that he was icy towards me. Did he not know that he was my mate? I went to the closet and put on a gown. By the way, I hadn't had many clothes yet since Alpha Matthew was yet to update my closet. I remembered him mentioning it during lunch. It was late, still filled with barrels of emotions, gusting at me like a hurricane and I stood up. "Should I confront him?" I asked my wolf, Georgia and as expected, she agreed to my decision without a second thought. "Yes. Yes!" "But what if he sends me away again?""If he's our mate, certainly, he wouldn't. Maybe he wasn't i

Ava's POV"Hey, babe. I'm back from shopping! Damn, you missed so much."My bubbling mood crushed the moment I walked inside Alaric's room, hoping to interest him with the news of my shopping today, until I saw Alana there, and the position at which I met the both of them was suspicious. In my track, I halted for a second, and anger brewed inside me instantly, my teeth gnashing on the inside. What was she doing here? It's about nine in the night, and she was supposed to be in her filthy room, not in my fiancee's room. No wonder she was a lowlife. Everything about her spoke of it. "My love." Said Alaric, opening his arms to me so I could come closer to snuggle in.Although Alaric was reasonably far away from her, as he should since she was a pest, I couldn't help but feel insecure. It better not be what I was thinking. I neared Alaric and perceived the scent of his shirt, and as I expected, Alana's scent was on him. They must have gotten close to each other before I entered. Alana's POV.Stunned, I picked up the pieces of the broken glass cup on the ground. Minutes ago, it was a solid item, fine and fragile, beautiful and glistering, until an evil hand such as Ava's touched it and it fell. Now, it was broken and useless, meant to be packed into a bin. I could relate to that illustration because Ava was breaking my heart, and she indeed knew. Starting with her questions, my wolf had been whining underneath, more saddened that our mate didn't even do anything to stop her. My wolf is nursing my heart right now, while I was careful not to get my fingers cut because obviously no one except Alpha Matthew cared so much about me.Alas, I finished packing it into one of my palms. I wanted to wait and see if my mate would even stop to look at me and see how much he was piercing my heart with molten lava, but I couldn't. He was far in-depth into what he was doing with Ava. She was moaning aloud, and he was grunting with a low tone. I was glad there was a curtai

"You know what, people like you—you're just meant to never have a nice heart. I'm done here." I rolled my eyes at Lucy, about to leave, but I couldn't as she grabbed me by my elbow and sent me back to her front. "What were you saying?" Lucy stood firm in front of me with her eyes boring into mine, like she was about to eat me raw. I batted my eyes but knew I couldn't back down, not at this point. If she wanted to be sassy at me without knowing my kind of person, then I could be rude as well. To be honest, I can even punish her by informing Alpha Matthew of her insolent behaviour."You heard what I said. You aren't my boss. Alpha Matthew never brought me to the maid's quarters or put you in the position to boss me around. And by the way, is she even the head of maids in this pack?"My face had shifted to Aliya, who was just staring at us with wide eyes. She seemed so much like me, who doesn't like conflicts, because she just maintained her distance from us. Aliya didn't answer me be

My head was bowed, and I was sure I looked guilty.Slowly, I raised it, tears clouding my eyes, never mind, I was just a weak human and couldn't stop myself from crying. "I didn't do anything to luna." The words choked out of me. I wanted him to believe me, but he didn't."Drop this act, you wretched witch. You did this to me!" The Alpha of the Jade pack, my mate's wife, yelled at me. "You did this," she said again.I shifted my gaze to her, forcing myself to speak. "You're all lying," I muttered in a whisper. "What would you gain?"I was being accused of slapping the Luna. What reason would I have for doing that? I was just an omega slave, and she was a werewolf Luna. How in God's name could I slap her? They weren't thinking."Alanna, did you slap the Luna?"Alaric, my mate, asked."I.. I.. I mean" I couldn't speak, and everyone began to murmur."See, Alpha, she's

Mere hearing that name pulled a certain anger within my vein."That bitch had succeeded in taking everything away from me. I used to think about my life with Alaric and right now,it is obvious my hopes are gone down the drain." I didn't know my voice were loud. I hated that someone like Alanna would take Alaric away from me and all I had in mind was nothing short of revenge."What are you going to do?" Collette questioned and indeed it was the same question that lingered through my heart. What exactly am i going to do about Alanna. It was about time I dealt with her appropriately. I'm sure she recognizes it as Alpha Alaric's."Don't think too much." He stated, walking to stand beside her, facing me. "Ava, meet Hazel, my omega mate and slave," he began introducing. "Omega," he referred to me, "meet Ava, my wife." What His wife? Alpha Alaric already had a chosen mate?God, was this a joke? It was a cruel joke indeed."Baby, why does she look pale?" I couldn't comprehend why the Alpha thought it was a good idea to assign his spoiled omega sex slave to help me prepare for my mating ritual. It was beyond me. When my mate was in the pack, they allowed me to rest, although my mate would occasionally yank me out of bed by my hair if I got too comfortable. Since then, the slave, Jennifer, had done nothing but waste time on her phone and hurl insults at me with her attitude."Yes, Jennifer," I muttered, my voice laced with irritation. She snorted in response and returned her attention to her phone. I was nearly ready for the ritual. My thick brown hair had been pulled up into an elegant twist, with the veil neatly tucked into place. I hadn't worn any makeup, so I had no choice but to embrace my natural appearance.
