CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

ASHER'S POV

I watched her leave for the room, a weird sensation spreading through me.

I don't understand why Myla always refused my help at every turn. It was like she didn't see me, like she didn't realize that I was her mate, that I only wanted to be there for her, to support her in any way I could.

Myla was fiercely independent, always insisting that she didn't need anyone's help. But I knew better. I knew that deep down, she was struggling, that she was in pain.

I was with her for the past two days. I've seen how weak she was and it scared me. She looked pale and almost lifeless, yet she refused to let me help her.

I mean, I've seen the way she held the wall whenever she tried to walk, in the way she winced whenever she thought I wasn't looking at her.

And it bothers me. Every time I offered to help her, she would snap at me, her words like a slap to the face. "I'm not that weak," she would say, her eyes flashing angrily.
