“What were you saying, Candice?” I shook her violently.

“The Alpha,” she said with raw fear in her eyes.

The loud painful howl came again and I dropped her limp arms.

“We're not done with this conversation,” I said and ran out of the room.

I stopped in my tracks when I got to the living room and my breath hitched as I took in the sight in front of me.

Ares howled and writhed with pain on the floor and blood covered the whole space around him while the maids stared on in horror.

“What the hell is wrong with you people?!” I yelled at the maids and ran to his side. “Call the pack doctor!”

“No!” His loud growl shook the ground and I was taken aback momentarily.

I stared at him for a few seconds before looking at the guards behind him.

“What happened?” I asked them.

They both shared confused looks and shrugged.

“The Alpha insisted on going out alone,” they said but fear of saying the wrong thing was evident in their eyes.
