Lily's POV

The air in the room was heavy with silence after Alex’s words of gratitude. I couldn’t help but replay them in my head, over and over. *Was he really sincere?* Did he mean those words, or were they just something he said in passing, a token of politeness?

The large wooden doors creaked open, breaking my thoughts. A young woman entered the chamber with a confidence I envied. She was striking her presence commanding attention as she made her way toward Alex.

"Are you okay? How is your wound?" she asked softly, her voice filled with concern.

“Better,” Alex replied with a faint smile. “Thanks to you, Stella. I truly appreciate it. If it weren’t for your efforts, the kingdom might not have survived.”

“It’s nothing,” she said, her tone modest but warm. “I only came to check on you but I can see you are strong as always.”

Her eyes lingered on him, filled with a familiarity that stung more than it should have.

Just then, the maids entered, carrying trays laden with food.

Lily’s POV The words I overheard haunted me. Every time I looked at Alex, the weight of the secret pressed on my chest. *Did he kill his first mate?* No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t push the thought away. In the days that followed, I started avoiding him. I would take longer routes through the palace halls just to avoid passing him. If I heard his voice in the distance, I would retreat into the nearest room. Yet, somehow, fate seemed determined to keep throwing us together. “Lily,” his deep voice called out one afternoon as I carried a basket of herbs through the gardens. I froze. My heart hammered against my ribs as I turned slowly to face him. He stood just a few steps away, his piercing gaze fixed on me. “Why have you been avoiding me?” he asked bluntly, his tone leaving no room for excuses. “I haven’t,” I lied, gripping the basket tighter. He raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. “You think I don’t notice when someone’s presence suddenly disappears? You’ve be

Lily’s POV I could feel the heat from Alex’s anger like a storm ready to break, but he didn’t let it explode not yet, at least. The treasury room was cold, its stone walls echoing our footsteps as we walked inside. The guards scanned the room thoroughly, their eyes tracing every corner and shelf. As Alex's commanding presence loomed over the scene, I couldn’t help but feel small, like I didn’t belong there. But this was no longer the life of a servant. Alex had given me a chance. The silence in the room was suffocating. I held my breath as the guards finished their checks. Nothing had been taken, nothing was out of place. “See? There’s nothing here,” I said, almost in relief, but my voice was shaky. Stella, who had been standing off to the side, finally spoke up, and her words dripped with venom. “How can a lowlife like Lily be allowed to enter the pack’s treasure room? She must’ve stolen something.” I flinched at the insult, but it was Alex who spoke first. His voice was col

Alex’s POV I couldn’t breathe. The moment I heard the news, the world tilted. The words hit me like a tidal wave, crashing against my chest. "Lily's trapped in the kitchen... there's fire... we can't get to her..." I didn't wait to hear more. My feet were already moving before the full weight of the situation had even sunk in. I could feel my pulse pounding in my ears as I rushed through the corridors of the castle. My mind was racing with questions, but there was only one thought dominating my every movement getting to her, making sure she was safe. The flames were crackling, and the smoke was thick in the air as I reached the kitchen. I didn’t stop to think I couldn’t. My eyes locked onto the burning doorway, and my wolf pushed at the surface, urging me to act. I charged through the door, my body igniting with adrenaline. The heat was unbearable, but I didn’t care. I could hear her gasping, struggling to breathe. Her figure was barely visible in the smoke, but I could sense

Lily's povI woke up in a room so large it felt suffocating. The sheets were soft, the bed far too grand for someone like me. The walls gleamed with intricate carvings, and sunlight streamed through the towering windows. For a moment, I thought I was still dreaming until I caught the faint scent of smoke lingering on my skin. No, this wasn’t a dream. My chest tightened as the memories came flooding back. The fire. The heat that seared my skin. The way it clawed at my lungs, threatening to pull me under. My hands instinctively clenched the blanket, my heart racing. Was this… my uncle’s room? The thought jolted me upright. No, it couldn’t be. He wasn’t here. He couldn’t be. I forced myself to calm down, but the panic clawed its way back. Every flicker of light in the room reminded me of flames, every shadow stretched too long and too dark. I couldn’t stay here. I needed to get away from everyone. From Alex. I didn’t want him to see me like this, broken and scarred. The fir

Alex's POV The room felt colder without her presence, and the emptiness gnawed at me like a festering wound. Lily was gone. Somewhere out there, she could be hurt or worse. I couldn’t shake the words from the council meeting earlier that day. “In the past two days, pack members have gone missing children and adults. No one knows where they’ve gone, but bodies have started showing up.” The words played in my head like a haunting melody, over and over. Could Lily be another victim? Who would dare to step into my palace and take her? My fists clenched at the thought, the veins in my arms tightening as anger coursed through me. I strode through the halls of the palace, giving orders to every guard I encountered. “Search every corner of the kingdom,” I barked. “I don’t care if you have to search under every stone or in the deepest forest. Find her!” The guards scattered, fear and determination etched across their faces. But even as I commanded them, a sinking feeling grew in my

Alex's POV The tension in the room was suffocating as I laid Lily on the bed, her face pale and her breathing shallow. The image of her collapsing in the forest played over and over in my mind, each replay fueling the fire of my rage. “Call me a doctor,” I barked to the nearest guard, refusing to leave her side. My wolf paced restlessly within me, demanding action. Within minutes, the doctor arrived, his expression a mixture of worry and professionalism. He checked Lily’s vitals, his movements swift yet careful. After what felt like an eternity, he turned to me. “She’s fine,” he said, his voice calm. “She just needs rest. She’s been through a lot, but there’s no lasting harm. She’ll recover with time.” I nodded curtly, barely acknowledging his words. Relief coursed through me, but it was short-lived. As soon as the doctor left, another thought struck Stella. I had left her body in the forest. “Guards!” I called sharply. Two guards rushed into the room, their posture rigid

Alex’s POV I found her one morning in the garden, her back turned to me as she tended to the flowers. She looked so small, so fragile as if the weight of the world rested on her shoulders. Taking a deep breath, I approached her. “Lily,” I said softly, my voice careful not to startle her. She stiffened but didn’t turn around. “Alex,” she replied, her tone polite but detached. “Is there something you need?” I frowned at her response, the coldness in her voice cutting deeper than I cared to admit. “I wanted to check on you,” I said. “You’ve been keeping to yourself lately. Is everything alright?” She turned slightly, just enough for me to see the guarded expression on her face. “I’m fine. Just tired, that’s all.” “Lily, if something is bothering you, you can tell me,” I urged, stepping closer. She shook her head, avoiding my gaze. “I said I’m fine, Alex. Please, don’t worry about me.” Before I could say more, she turned and walked away, leaving me standing there, a mix of

Alex’s POV I leaned back in my chair, running a hand through my hair. “It’s not an easy story to tell.” “And I’m not an easy person to scare.” I chuckled at that, a bitter laugh. “Fair enough.” The room felt heavier as I prepared to share what I had kept buried for years. “Her name was Seraphina,” I began, my voice steady but cold. “She was my mate or at least, I thought she was.” Lily’s eyes narrowed. “What do you mean by ‘thought’?” I hesitated, the memories rushing back in vivid, painful clarity. “She betrayed me. With my Betta. My best friend.” The shock on her face mirrored the pain I felt recounting the story. “Your Beta?” “Yes,” I said, my tone sharper now. “The man I trusted with my life, the woman who was supposed to be my other half, they destroyed me.” Lily’s expression softened, but there was something in her eyes I couldn’t quite place. “What... what did you do?” “I killed them,” I said, the words heavy and unapologetic. She believes it’s for the best.” “That makes no sense!” I snapped, my frustration boiling over. “Lily would never abandon us without a reason.” Morgana lowered her gaze. “Alex, she’s made her choice. Searching for her will only bring more pain.” “More pain?” I repeated, my voice laced with anger and disbelief. “You’re asking me to give up on her. To just let her go?” “I’m asking you to trust the path that fate has laid out,” Morgana said firmly. “Your focus should be on the pack. They need their Alpha now more than ever.” I turned away from her, my mind racing. Lily was out there, alone and vulnerable. How could I just forget about her? Morgana placed a hand on my shoulder. “I know this is difficult, Alex. But sometimes, the ones we love make decisions we can’t understand. She has her reasons.” I shrugged her hand off, my jaw clenched. “If you’re done playing

Alex's POV The tension in the air was suffocating. As I stood at the front of my pack, the full moon casting its silver light across the battlefield, I couldn’t help but feel the weight of my decisions pressing on my shoulders. Lily was still missing, and though I tried to convince myself she needed time, an unshakable worry gnawed at me. But now wasn’t the time to falter. My people were counting on me. “Alpha,” Gavin, my Beta, stepped beside me, his voice low but urgent. “The scouts have reported Stella and her forces just beyond the ridge. She’s brought reinforcements.” I gritted my teeth. “So, she’s desperate enough to ally with rogues now,” I muttered, the disgust in my voice unmistakable. “This ends tonight.” With a nod, I turned to face the pack members gathered behind me. Their eyes shone with determination, their loyalty unwavering. “Tonight, we fight not just for ourselves but for the honor of this pack!” I roared, my voice echoing through the still night. “Stella

Lily's povWhen I opened my eyes, the pounding in my head was almost unbearable. I blinked, trying to focus, but everything around me was dim and unfamiliar. Slowly, the fog in my mind cleared, and I realized I was lying on the cold, hard ground. Where am I? The thought hit me like a thunderclap as I pushed myself upright. I scanned the room, my heart sinking as I took in the faces around me. There were children, elders, and warriors I recognized faces that had haunted me for weeks since their disappearance. My breath hitched. “Lily?” A weak voice broke the silence. I turned toward the sound and saw Mrs. Hargrove, one of the elders, sitting slumped against the wall. Her once-vibrant features were now pale and gaunt. “Mrs. Hargrove,” I whispered, rushing to her side. “What happened? What are you all doing here?” Her lips trembled as tears filled her eyes. “It’s old Morgana,” she said, her voice cracking. “She took us. She’s the one behind all of this.” “Morgana?” I repeat

Alex's pov The weight of Lily’s absence was a stone pressing on my chest. I searched the palace endlessly, questioning guards and servants, but no one had seen her since last night. The room where we had argued still carried her scent, faint and lingering, but it offered no solace. I had replayed every word I had said to her in my mind, tormenting myself with the thought that I had pushed her too far. And yet, there was a part of me, an aching, hollow part that knew something deeper was wrong. Lily wasn’t the type to run without reason. “Where are you, Lily?” I whispered, staring out over the kingdom from the balcony. The distant howl of the wind was my only answer. A knock sounded at the door, and my Beta, Caleb, entered, his expression grim. “My Lord, we have some issues at hand,” he said, his tone clipped. “Speak,” I said, turning to face him, trying to bury the worry clawing at my insides. “It’s Stella,” he said. “She’s sent a message.” “Stella?” I frowned, the name

Lily's POV My voice cracked as I tried to hold back the tears threatening to spill. “But all I got back... was the news that they were all dead. Every single one of them. They were betrayed by my father’s closest friend.” I opened the pendant on my necklace and held it out to Alex. Inside were two tiny photographs, worn with age but still clear enough to see the faces of my parents. “These are my parents,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. Alex leaned closer, his sharp gaze softening as he studied the pictures. “Is that... your father and mother?” he asked. “Yes,” I replied, my fingers trembling as I held the necklace. For a moment, Alex said nothing. His brows furrowed, and he stared at the photographs as if he had seen a ghost. Then, a flicker of recognition crossed his face. “What is it? Did you know them or have you seen them before?” I asked, sensing his unease. He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he stood abruptly and began pacing. “Alex? Is anything t

  • The Alpha king's Rejected Mate    The necklace

Lily's POV The stars glimmered faintly against the inky black sky as I stood atop the palace roof, the cool night breeze brushing against my skin. From this vantage point, the kingdom stretched out in serene beauty, its flickering lanterns lighting up the streets like scattered fireflies. I hugged myself, unable to sleep, though Alex lay peacefully inside, exhausted after the long day. Glancing back at the faint glow from my room’s window, I smiled softly. He deserved his rest. But for me, tonight was a night of reflection. My fingers instinctively found the necklace around my neck a piece of my past that tethered me to a life I had long left behind. The sound of footsteps broke the silence. “The necklace always looks good on you,” Alex said as he joined me. I turned to see him standing a few feet away, wearing only trousers. The moonlight caught the sharp lines of his muscled chest, and for a brief moment, I forgot to breathe. “I thought I left you sleeping,” I said, qui

Alex's povThe forest was silent save for the crunch of leaves beneath our boots as we searched. The air was heavy, not just with the weight of our task but with the echo of Jake’s words ringing in my mind: "Those missing pack members of yours? That’s just the beginning."It couldn’t be him. No one, not even Jake, could infiltrate my pack and orchestrate something of this scale without my knowledge. Yet his threat lingered like a storm cloud on the horizon, filling me with doubt. After hours of searching yielded no new leads, I ordered my team to return to the pack. The patrols would continue, but for now, we needed to regroup. As we approached the gates, I turned to the guards stationed there. "No one leaves the pack territory without a pack tag," I instructed firmly. "From now on, all movements are to be logged. No exceptions." One of the guards nodded. “Understood, my Lord.” “And one more thing,” I added. “I need someone skilled in drawing. Find an artist and send them to

Alex's POV The throne room was a cacophony of voices when I entered. The elders were gathered, their heated discussions overlapping and filling the air with tension. Each one spoke louder than the other, their words a mixture of worry, accusation, and frustration. I didn’t need to hear the specifics to know what they were arguing about the missing children and adults. It was the only topic that could unite the pack in such a frenzy. As I stepped inside, the room fell silent, the weight of my presence snuffing out the noise like a flame in a gust of wind. All eyes turned to me, their expectant faces waiting for answers I wasn’t sure I could give. One elder, a wiry man with a face etched by age and experience, broke the silence. “My Lord, the pack is surviving internal problems that threaten our very foundation. We must act immediately to solve this crisis,” he said, his voice steady but urgent. Another elder, a stern woman with sharp eyes, chimed in. “This pack has never encounter

The aura around him was suffocating, his presence heavy with dominance. My pulse quickened, and I took a step back, instinctively moving closer to Alex. “Jake,” I breathed, my voice barely above a whisper. “What are you doing here?” I forced the words out, trying to steady my shaking voice. He smirked, his eyes sweeping over me before locking onto mine. “I’ve come to take you back, Lily. Where you belong.” His words were smooth, but the venom in them was unmistakable. They dripped with arrogance, the kind that made my stomach churn. “I don’t belong to you,” I said firmly, clenching my fists. “I never did, and I never will.” Jake’s smirk faltered for a moment before returning, even crueler this ti
