Alex's POV

The room felt colder without her presence, and the emptiness gnawed at me like a festering wound. Lily was gone. Somewhere out there, she could be hurt or worse. I couldn’t shake the words from the council meeting earlier that day.

“In the past two days, pack members have gone missing children and adults. No one knows where they’ve gone, but bodies have started showing up.”

The words played in my head like a haunting melody, over and over. Could Lily be another victim? Who would dare to step into my palace and take her? My fists clenched at the thought, the veins in my arms tightening as anger coursed through me.

I strode through the halls of the palace, giving orders to every guard I encountered.

“Search every corner of the kingdom,” I barked. “I don’t care if you have to search under every stone or in the deepest forest. Find her!”

The guards scattered, fear and determination etched across their faces. But even as I commanded them, a sinking feeling grew in my

Alex's POV The tension in the room was suffocating as I laid Lily on the bed, her face pale and her breathing shallow. The image of her collapsing in the forest played over and over in my mind, each replay fueling the fire of my rage. “Call me a doctor,” I barked to the nearest guard, refusing to leave her side. My wolf paced restlessly within me, demanding action. Within minutes, the doctor arrived, his expression a mixture of worry and professionalism. He checked Lily’s vitals, his movements swift yet careful. After what felt like an eternity, he turned to me. “She’s fine,” he said, his voice calm. “She just needs rest. She’s been through a lot, but there’s no lasting harm. She’ll recover with time.” I nodded curtly, barely acknowledging his words. Relief coursed through me, but it was short-lived. As soon as the doctor left, another thought struck Stella. I had left her body in the forest. “Guards!” I called sharply. Two guards rushed into the room, their posture rigid

Alex’s POV I found her one morning in the garden, her back turned to me as she tended to the flowers. She looked so small, so fragile as if the weight of the world rested on her shoulders. Taking a deep breath, I approached her. “Lily,” I said softly, my voice careful not to startle her. She stiffened but didn’t turn around. “Alex,” she replied, her tone polite but detached. “Is there something you need?” I frowned at her response, the coldness in her voice cutting deeper than I cared to admit. “I wanted to check on you,” I said. “You’ve been keeping to yourself lately. Is everything alright?” She turned slightly, just enough for me to see the guarded expression on her face. “I’m fine. Just tired, that’s all.” “Lily, if something is bothering you, you can tell me,” I urged, stepping closer. She shook her head, avoiding my gaze. “I said I’m fine, Alex. Please, don’t worry about me.” Before I could say more, she turned and walked away, leaving me standing there, a mix of

Alex’s POV I leaned back in my chair, running a hand through my hair. “It’s not an easy story to tell.” “And I’m not an easy person to scare.” I chuckled at that, a bitter laugh. “Fair enough.” The room felt heavier as I prepared to share what I had kept buried for years. “Her name was Seraphina,” I began, my voice steady but cold. “She was my mate or at least, I thought she was.” Lily’s eyes narrowed. “What do you mean by ‘thought’?” I hesitated, the memories rushing back in vivid, painful clarity. “She betrayed me. With my Betta. My best friend.” The shock on her face mirrored the pain I felt recounting the story. “Your Beta?” “Yes,” I said, my tone sharper now. “The man I trusted with my life, the woman who was supposed to be my other half, they destroyed me.” Lily’s expression softened, but there was something in her eyes I couldn’t quite place. “What... what did you do?” “I killed them,” I said, the words heavy and unapologetic. She flinched, and for a moment

Alex's povThe walk to the palace gate was tense, my mind racing with possibilities. When we arrived, I scanned the area, my gaze sweeping over the beggars who had gathered nearby. “She’s not here,” the guard said after a moment. “Keep looking,” I growled. We searched for what felt like hours before the guard suddenly froze, pointing toward a group of children not far from the gates. “My lord, that’s her,” he said. I followed his gaze to a small girl sitting on the ground, clutching a ragged doll. She couldn’t have been more than ten years old, her clothes tattered and her face smudged with dirt. “Stay here,” I told the guard. “I’ll handle this.” As I approached, the girl looked up, her eyes wide with curiosity and a hint of fear. “Hey there, pretty one,” I said, crouching to her level. Her grip on the doll tightened, but she didn’t run. “Do you like candy?” I asked, pulling a small pouch from my pocket. Her eyes lit up as she nodded. I handed her a piece, watc

Lily's POV The moment Alex returned, his face was a storm of emotions. His shoulders were tense, his jaw clenched, and his eyes burned with a mix of anger and determination. "It was Stella," he said, his voice low but heavy with frustration. "She's playing games with us, Lily. But I swear, I’ll make her pay for what she’s done. She won’t get away with it." Hearing her name sent a chill down my spine. The mention of her alone brought memories of the fire, the suffocating smoke, and the searing fear I felt in my chest. But now, as Alex stood in front of me, his protective presence reassured me. "You shouldn’t have to deal with this alone," I said softly, my voice trembling despite my effort to stay strong. Alex stepped closer, his piercing eyes locking onto mine. "I’m not letting her hurt you again, Lily. Whatever it takes, I’ll protect you." His words struck a chord deep within me, unraveling the walls I had worked so hard to build. I had tried to keep my past buried, hidden

Lily POV The sounds of battle soon reached the palace. The clash of swords, guttural growls, and cries of pain filled the air. My heart pounded as I paced the room, the urge to help clawing at me. Then, a deafening crash echoed through the halls. My instincts screamed at me to move. I bolted from the room, following the sound of commotion. As I rounded a corner, I saw them rogues, their eyes wild and filled with malice, tearing through the palace gates. Panic erupted as staff and pack members scrambled to flee. "Get the children to safety!" I yelled at a nearby maid, who clutched a crying child to her chest. Suddenly, one of the rogues lunged toward them. Without thinking, I grabbed a nearby blade and threw myself between them. The impact of the rogue’s weight sent me stumbling back, but I managed to hold my ground. The rogue snarled, his claws swiping dangerously close to my face. I ducked and slashed upward with the blade, catching him across the chest. "Lily!" a voice

My pulse quickened, and I took a step back, instinctively moving closer to Alex. “Jake,” I breathed, my voice barely above a whisper. “What are you doing here?” I forced the words out, trying to steady my shaking voice. He smirked, his eyes sweeping over me before locking onto mine. “I’ve come to take you back, Lily. Where you belong.” His words were smooth, but the venom in them was unmistakable. At that moment, the shadows of the past recede completely, replaced by a brilliant light that heralds our united future. A group of elders representing both packs came forward with a small, intricately decorated chest. From it, they withdrew two rings forged from a rare metal that had long been a symbol of strength and endurance. One ring was engraved with symbols of the Northern Pack, and the other with the emblems of the Southern Pack. Together, they had been melded into one a physical embodiment of our joined destinies.Alex took the rings in his hands, his eyes softening as he looked at me. “Lily,” he said, his voice low but resonant, “these rings represent the bond that has brought us together. Not just as a couple, but as a community bound by love and shared hope. I give you this ring as a symbol of my promise, a promise that I will always stand by your side, through every joy and every challenge that may come our way.”I reached out, taking the ring from him, my fingers trembli

Before we can dwell further on our shared triumphs, a sudden murmur ripples through the garden. Mara, whose keen insights and unwavering dedication have often been our guide, approaches us with a troubled expression. “Alex, Lily,” she says softly, her eyes darting around as if searching for hidden onlookers, “I need to speak with you both. There’s something I’ve discovered that could impact the unity we’ve worked so hard to build.”A chill runs down my spine. “What is it, Mara?” I ask, trying to steady my voice despite the anxiety clawing at my heart.Mara glances around and lowers her voice. “In the process of merging our archives and unifying our traditions, I uncovered evidence that suggests a faction from the old days has been operating in the shadows. They are opposed to the merger, clinging to outdated grievances and resentments. I fear that their actions, though subtle, could undermine the trust we’ve painstakingly built.”Alex’s eyes narrow as he processes her words. “Are you

The soft glow of early morning light filtered through the gauzy curtains of our recovery room as I lay back against the crisp white sheets, feeling the tender stirrings of new life within me. Today, everything felt different, charged with an emotion that I couldn’t quite name but knew was the culmination of our shared trials and triumphs. I had delivered our baby boy just hours ago, and even now, the gentle cooing of our newborn filled the quiet room with a promise of hope and renewal.I remember the moment of his arrival as if it were a vivid dream. The pain of labor had been intense, a reminder of the sacrifices we were all willing to make for the future we had dared to imagine. Every contraction, every fleeting moment of doubt, had been washed away the instant I heard his first cry. At that moment, the world outside our little sanctuary, with all its chaos and heartbreak, faded into insignificance. All that mattered was the soft, determined beat of a tiny heart, a new life that had

One afternoon, as I sat in the hospital garden, I overheard a group of children laughing and playing near a fountain that once stood neglected. Their innocence is a stark reminder that life, in all its complexity, continues to bloom even in the face of adversity.I speak softly to Alex as if he were awake. “Look at them, Alex. Their laughter is a promise that even after the darkest nights, a new day will rise.
