Alex’s POV

I strode into the throne hall, my boots echoing against the marble floor. The room was tense, brimming with elders from the packs that owed allegiance to the Silver Moon Kingdom. Their faces were grim, their murmurs low. It didn’t take a genius to know this was no ordinary gathering.

As I approached the central dais, my Beta, Marcus, stepped forward, his expression troubled. “My lord, the news is dire. The enemy has launched an attack on our kingdom’s walls.”

“Where exactly?” I asked, trying to keep my tone calm, though my gut twisted at the thought.

“The eastern gate,” Marcus replied. “Their forces number twenty thousand strong.”

A heavy silence fell over the room. My jaw clenched as I turned to face the elders, whose worried expressions mirrored the gravity of the situation.

“How many men do we have stationed there?” I demanded, my voice echoing through the hall.

Elder Rowan, the oldest and most experienced among them, stepped forward. “Twelve thousand, my lord. Including our reserves.”

Twelve thousand against twenty thousand. We were outnumbered nearly two to one. My mind raced, trying to piece together a strategy.

“We can’t meet them on the open battlefield,” I said finally, the plan forming in my mind. “We’ll fight from within the walls. Use the fortifications to our advantage.”

Rowan’s face darkened, and a murmur of dissent rippled through the elders. “The walls won’t hold forever,” he said, his tone cautious but firm. “We need reinforcements. Allies.”

I turned to Marcus. “What about the rest of our forces? Where are they?”

Marcus hesitated, and I already knew the answer before he spoke. “They were sent east to assist with the drought crisis. They won’t return in time.”

My fists tightened at my sides. We had stretched our resources thin, trying to maintain peace across the region, and now we were paying the price.

“Then which ally can we call upon?” I demanded, scanning the room. But my question was met with silence. The elders avoided my gaze, their hesitation infuriating.

“No one?” I pressed. “Not a single pack will come to our aid?”

The silence lingered, heavy and suffocating. Just as I was about to speak again, the doors to the hall swung open. The sound drew all eyes to the entrance as Stella entered, her presence commanding attention.

Stella was one of the royal pack’s emissaries, known for her sharp mind and unwavering confidence. Her fiery red hair fell over her shoulders, and her piercing blue eyes scanned the room with calm determination.

“I’ll send a message to my mother’s pack,” Stella announced, her voice steady. “Their kingdom is nearby, and they have thirty thousand men. They can send reinforcements.”

A wave of relief swept through the room, but I wasn’t convinced just yet. “And how long will it take for them to respond?” I asked, stepping closer to her.

She met my gaze without flinching. “If I leave immediately and they agree to our request, their forces can arrive within nine hours.”

“Nine hours,” Elder Rowan muttered. “The walls won’t last that long.”

“We don’t have a choice,” I said, cutting through the murmurs. “We hold the wall until help arrives.”

Turning to Stella, I added, “You’ll go personally to ensure the message is delivered?”

“Yes, my lord,” she replied. “I’ll leave now.”

Without another word, Stella left the room, her steps purposeful. The door closed behind her, leaving the rest of us to face the grim reality of what lay ahead.

The room fell into a tense silence as I turned back to the elders. “Assemble the men,” I ordered. “We’ll hold the walls with everything we have.”

The elders exchanged uneasy glances, but they knew better than to argue. Marcus stepped forward, nodding in agreement. “I’ll see to it, my lord.”

As I made to leave the throne room, Elder Rowan’s voice stopped me in my tracks. “Wait, Alex.”

I turned, fixing him with a hard stare. “What is it, Rowan? Time is not on our side.”

The elder stepped forward, his expression troubled but resolute. “You cannot lead this battle.”

His words struck me like a blow. “What did you just say?”

“It is too dangerous for an Alpha King to lead his men into war,” Rowan continued, his voice steady but firm. “An Alpha without an heir cannot risk his life. If you fall, the kingdom will descend into chaos. The packs will fracture.”

A wave of murmurs swept through the hall, some elders nodding in agreement.

“This is not the time for cowardice,” I snapped, my temper flaring. “Our kingdom is under attack. I will not sit idly by while my men fight and die.”

“It’s not cowardice,” Rowan countered. “It’s practicality. You must think of the bigger picture. If you die, who will lead the kingdom? Who will unify the packs?”

I took a step closer, my voice dropping to a dangerous tone. “Are you suggesting I let my men fight without their leader? That I hide behind these walls while they lay down their lives?”

“You must ensure the survival of the kingdom,” another elder interjected. “We’re not saying you should do nothing, but leading the charge yourself is reckless.”

My hands curled into fists, frustration boiling in my veins. I knew they had a point, but the thought of standing back, of letting others take the risks I shouldered, was unbearable.

“We’re running out of time,” I said, my voice sharp. “We’ll discuss this later.”

But as I turned to leave, Rowan’s voice stopped me again.

“We’re not done, Alex,” he said firmly. “You cannot lead this war. Not as an Alpha King without an heir.”

The words hung heavy in the air, their implication clear. My jaw tightened, and I felt the weight of their judgment pressing down on me.

I turned back to face them, my chest heaving with barely contained anger. The room was silent, every eye fixed on me, waiting to see what I would do.

Then who will lead, if not me?

I demanded, my voice echoing through the hall, leaving the room in tense, uncertain silence.

My gaze swept over the circle of worried faces. “Our men are out there, fighting for us,” I said, my voice like steel. “I will not stand here like a coward while they shed their blood. I am the Alpha King. I lead. That is my charge.” No one dared speak as I stormed out of the room. The air outside was colder than it had been hours ago, but my blood burned hot. I made my way to the armory, its heavy oak doors creaking as I pushed them open. The scent of polished steel and leather greeted me, a familiar smell that always stirred a sense of purpose in my chest. I paused for a moment, letting my eyes roam over the weapons and armor lining the walls. This is it, I thought. Either I lead them to victory, or I die trying. I reached for my armor, the silver-etched breastplate that bore the crest of the Silver Moon Kingdom. As I fastened the clasps, the weight of the metal pressed ag

Alex POV The sounds of the battle rang in my ears as I watched my men struggle to hold the line. The wolfbane had taken its toll; my werewolves were barely able to keep their strength up. I could see it in their eyes, the fatigue, the desperation, but still, they fought on. I clenched my fists, feeling the cold wind bite against my exposed skin as the sun dipped lower behind the distant mountains. The hour Stella had promised us had passed, and still, there was no sign of her. The enemy forces grew bolder, and I knew we couldn’t last much longer. “They’re climbing the wall!” A soldier yelled, and I turned, watching in horror as more of the enemy swarmed the stone battlements. They were relentless, scaling the walls like spiders, their faces twisted in manic rage. But we held strong. We couldn’t give in. Not now. My breath came in quick, shallow gasps as I surveyed the chaos. I spotted a group of them carrying something large and bulky: wood, gasoline, and wires, headi

  • The Alpha king's Rejected Mate    The Aftermath

Lily's POV The palace was in chaos. Every room, every hallway, every corner had become a makeshift infirmary. Servants who had never so much as bandaged a wound were suddenly tasked with stitching flesh and tending burns. Blood stained the floors, the air was thick with the scent of antiseptics, and the groans of the injured echoed endlessly.I wiped the sweat from my brow, struggling to focus on the soldier in front of me. His arm had been slashed deeply, and though the bleeding was mostly under control, the wolfsbane coursing through his veins made it nearly impossible for him to heal. “Hold still,” I said, though my voice was gentler than it had been all night. The exhaustion was getting to everyone, but I refused to let it show. Despite the chaos around me, my thoughts kept straying to Alex. Was he alright? Was he still alive? I hated myself for worrying about him. After everything he’d put me through the orders, the arrogance, the constant belittling, I shouldn't care. Yet

I couldn’t help but replay them in my head, over and over. *Was he really sincere?* Did he mean those words, or were they just something he said in passing, a token of politeness? The large wooden doors creaked open, breaking my thoughts. A young woman entered the chamber with a confidence I envied. She was striking her presence commanding attention as she made her way toward Alex. "Are you okay? How is your wound?" she asked softly, her voice filled with concern. “Better,” Alex replied with a faint smile. “Thanks to you, Stella. I truly appreciate it. If it weren’t for your efforts, the kingdom might not have survived.” “It’s nothing,” she said, her tone modest but warm. “I only came to check on you but I can see you are strong as always.” Her eyes lingered on him, filled with a familiarity that stung more than it should have. Just then, the maids entered, carrying trays laden with food.

Lily’s POV The words I overheard haunted me. Every time I looked at Alex, the weight of the secret pressed on my chest. *Did he kill his first mate?* No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t push the thought away. In the days that followed, I started avoiding him. I would take longer routes through the palace halls just to avoid passing him. If I heard his voice in the distance, I would retreat into the nearest room. Yet, somehow, fate seemed determined to keep throwing us together. “Lily,” his deep voice called out one afternoon as I carried a basket of herbs through the gardens. I froze. My heart hammered against my ribs as I turned slowly to face him. He stood just a few steps away, his piercing gaze fixed on me. “Why have you been avoiding me?” he asked bluntly, his tone leaving no room for excuses. “I haven’t,” I lied, gripping the basket tighter. He raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. “You think I don’t notice when someone’s presence suddenly disappears? You’ve be

Lily’s POV I could feel the heat from Alex’s anger like a storm ready to break, but he didn’t let it explode not yet, at least. The treasury room was cold, its stone walls echoing our footsteps as we walked inside. The guards scanned the room thoroughly, their eyes tracing every corner and shelf. As Alex's commanding presence loomed over the scene, I couldn’t help but feel small, like I didn’t belong there. But this was no longer the life of a servant. Alex had given me a chance. The silence in the room was suffocating. I held my breath as the guards finished their checks. Nothing had been taken, nothing was out of place. “See? There’s nothing here,” I said, almost in relief, but my voice was shaky. Stella, who had been standing off to the side, finally spoke up, and her words dripped with venom. “How can a lowlife like Lily be allowed to enter the pack’s treasure room? She must’ve stolen something.” I flinched at the insult, but it was Alex who spoke first. His voice was col

Searching for her will only bring more pain.” “More pain?” I repeated, my voice laced with anger and disbelief. “You’re asking me to give up on her. To just let her go?” “I’m asking you to trust the path that fate has laid out,” Morgana said firmly. “Your focus should be on the pack. They need their Alpha now more than ever.” I turned away from her, my mind racing. Lily was out there, alone and vulnerable. How could I just forget about her? My people were counting on me. “Alpha,” Gavin, my Beta, stepped beside me, his voice low but urgent. “The scouts have reported Stella and her forces just beyond the ridge. She’s brought reinforcements.” I gritted my teeth. “So, she’s desperate enough to ally with rogues now,” I muttered, the disgust in my voice unmistakable. “This ends tonight.” With a nod, I turned to face the pack members gathered behind me. Their eyes shone with determination, their loyalty unwavering. “Tonight, we fight not just for ourselves but for the honor of this pack!” I roared, my voice echoing through the still night. “Stella

I scanned the room, my heart sinking as I took in the faces around me. There were children, elders, and warriors I recognized faces that had haunted me for weeks since their disappearance. My breath hitched. “Lily?” A weak voice broke the silence. I turned toward the sound and saw Mrs. Hargrove, one of the elders, sitting slumped against the wall. Her once-vibrant features were now pale and gaunt. “Mrs. Hargrove,” I whispered, rushing to her side. “What happened? What are you all doing here?” Her lips trembled as tears filled her eyes. “It’s old Morgana,” she said, her voice cracking. “She took us. She’s the one behind all of this.” “Morgana?” I repeat

I had replayed every word I had said to her in my mind, tormenting myself with the thought that I had pushed her too far. And yet, there was a part of me, an aching, hollow part that knew something deeper was wrong. Lily wasn’t the type to run without reason. “Where are you, Lily?” I whispered, staring out over the kingdom from the balcony. The distant howl of the wind was my only answer. A knock sounded at the door, and my Beta, Caleb, entered, his expression grim. “My Lord, we have some issues at hand,” he said, his tone clipped. “Speak,” I said, turning to face him, trying to bury the worry clawing at my insides. “It’s Stella,” he said. “She’s sent a message.” “Stella?” I frowned, the name

Inside were two tiny photographs, worn with age but still clear enough to see the faces of my parents. “These are my parents,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. Alex leaned closer, his sharp gaze softening as he studied the pictures. “Is that... your father and mother?” he asked. “Yes,” I replied, my fingers trembling as I held the necklace. For a moment, Alex said nothing. His brows furrowed, and he stared at the photographs as if he had seen a ghost. Then, a flicker of recognition crossed his face. “What is it? I hugged myself, unable to sleep, though Alex lay peacefully inside, exhausted after the long day. Glancing back at the faint glow from my room’s window, I smiled softly. He deserved his rest. But for me, tonight was a night of reflection. My fingers instinctively found the necklace around my neck a piece of my past that tethered me to a life I had long left behind. The sound of footsteps broke the silence. “The necklace always looks good on you,” Alex said as he joined me. I turned to see him standing a few feet away, wearing only trousers. Each one spoke louder than the other, their words a mixture of worry, accusation, and frustration. I didn’t need to hear the specifics to know what they were arguing about the missing children and adults. It was the only topic that could unite the pack in such a frenzy. As I stepped inside, the room fell silent, the weight of my presence snuffing out the noise like a flame in a gust of wind. All eyes turned to me, their expectant faces waiting for answers I wasn’t sure I could give. One elder, a wiry man with a face etched by age and experience, broke the silence. “My Lord, the pack is surviving internal problems that threaten our very foundation. My pulse quickened, and I took a step back, instinctively moving closer to Alex. “Jake,” I breathed, my voice barely above a whisper. “What are you doing here?” I forced the words out, trying to steady my shaking voice.
