Irene

“I don’t know what’s gotten into me,” I heard myself say, even though Lucien was the only one who could hear me.

My sudden kindness towards him felt like I wasn’t entirely in control of my actions.

Because this wasn’t me!

I wasn’t sure what it was. I wasn't sure what had entered me because I had been… nicer, and it felt strange, uncomfortable even.

Lucien, of course, seemed to think it was something else.

“Are you being serious, Irene? You cooked for me today?” he asked, looking at me like he was reading every move that I made.

I wouldn’t blame him. He had always been the observant one.

“It’s nothing. I felt like trying out a new recipe, so don’t let it get into your head,” I said to him, and he kept on laughing like a clown.

“Something is wrong somewhere, sweetheart. I’m very convinced. Or is it some aftereffect of our night together?” he asked, and I almost hit him with the fork in my hand.

No way!

There was no way he believed that my nice gesture towards him was a

Irene “You must be sick!” I yelled at him, and my throat was beginning to hurt. “With that being said, I needed you to apologize to me so that we would get over with this,” he said to me, licking his lips, making me even more mad. This man was so unserious. “You expect me to apologize?” I asked, already so mad that I could tear down a building. Kael’s calmness only pissed me off further. He stood there as if waiting for me to beg for his forgiveness, and for a moment, I couldn’t believe it. What did he want from me? Why the hell was he acting like this was my fault? From talking about fate to this? I mean? Make it make sense. I was tired of all these long talks. I could feel my heart racing. This was ridiculous. I didn’t owe him anything, least of all an apology. He cocked his head, and he had a very funny expression written all over his face. “I never had anything against you, Irene,” he started and his voice sounded so cool and so collected that it made me want to punch s

LucienI had to get out of this place. The constant thoughts about my feelings for Irene were starting to eat me up from the inside.Every single look at her and every touch made my heart burn, and I didn’t know how much longer I could pretend that I wasn’t in love with her.I shifted into my wolf form and began to scout the pack. Coming out from the pack house was exactly what I needed to reset my mind. But as I ran deeper into the woods, a part of me knew that I was only delaying the inevitable. I couldn't stop it. It was destined to happen. Why was I so scared of it?“You’re running away again,” my wolf’s voice echoed in my mind.“I’m not running,” I replied, and I was slightly embarrassed by that. “I’m just clearing my head, that’s all. Can’t you see?”“That’s not what it feels like, Lucien. You were avoiding the truth. You knew what you felt. You just didn’t want to admit it to yourself. Why did you keep fighting yourself?” he asked, and I growled low in my throat.“I couldn’t

Irene“You must be joking. Something has to be wrong with you,” I spat out.I crossed my arms, staring at Peris like he had lost his mind.I was very sure that he had lost his mind because there was no other explanation for why he had shown up now, saying nonsense about wanting to be part of my life again.I didn''t know what men think they were. Some mini gods? They think they can always get whoever they want, regardless of who it was.To be honest, I felt insulted. I was very insulted that he had looked at me and told me this.“Irene, please listen to me at least. You are getting worked up for nothing. We once had a thing together and…” He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.I still didn't understand why he was doing this. Didn’t he realize how stupid he sounded?“No.” I cut him off, shaking my head.“Stop seeing me like a child who doesn't know what I am doing. I will keep saying this to you. Stop walking back into my life like nothing happened. You left me hanging. You disappear

LucienI felt it before I even saw it.It was like a constant itch in my chest and a restless pull in my bones.I felt the urge to return to the forest and I could not ignore it.I had already scouted the territory once tonight, but something told me I needed to go back.So I obeyed and the moment I stepped outside, Irene's scent hit my nostrils.I tried my best not to run too hard as I followed the scent but bet me, my feet were moving faster than I wanted. It wasn't just her scent, I could also feel some traces of distress. Finally, I saw her.She was laying on the cold ground with her hair sprawled out on the dirt.My breath caught in my throat. I didn’t think about what to do, I just moved to get her because she didn't look like she was in a good state.I knelt beside her, my hands reaching for her and I tried to find out what went wrong.“Irene.” I called her, shaking her vehemently.I quickly checked her breath and her pulse and they were both okay. That was a relief. She had no

LucienI felt like a jerk. And when I was already a few steps away from her house, I decided to go back. Not because of anything else, but because I already felt so guilty leaving her all to herself.I might have been a jerk, but I wasn't heartless. I loved her and I cared.“You’re pathetic, Lucien. Get away from me!”These words from her hit me before I could even step fully into her room.Irene stood near the window with her arms wrapped tightly around herself, her eyes red but still burning with anger. She wasn’t crying anymore. She had already wiped away her tears, but now she was furious, and every bit of it was aimed straight at me.I shut the door behind me, exhaling through my nose.I knew I should have walked away, but I couldn’t. I knew that I should have let her be, but seeing her in that mood made me feel terrible.I couldn't leave her. Not after hearing her cry. Not after seeing her crumble in a way she never had before.“Irene… At least you should allow me to talk. You w

Irene I felt so much better on this day, and I decided to take a walk to inhale clean air.Don't blame me. That was the only thing I could do since my plans to escape from this damn place had been put on hold due to the latest order. But trust me, I was still working on new ways to get out of this place."You look different," I heard immediately, and I stopped mid-step, my heart slamming against my ribs at the sudden voice behind me.I hadn't heard anyone approach me. That was my fear, but the moment I turned, I knew exactly who it was.It was Camilla.Oh, my goodness! I had missed her so much that I could hardly contain my excitement when I saw her.Let's just say that she was the exact person I wanted to see at this time. At least, it wasn't Lucien or other annoying assholes. She stood with her arms folded, and she kept on smiling at me. She was as excited as I am and she looked exactly the same since I last saw her. The good part? She still had that confidence coming from her."Y

Irene"You are being paranoid,” I said quickly. I knew I was so dismissive, and it sounded as if saying the words out loud would make them true. Why was I still thinking about it anyway? I had already told her that it wasn't true, and regardless, I was going to go for a test.I guessed I was just thinking too much and feeling so guilty because it still didn’t make sense…“What again?” Camilla asked, giving me that look.It was no use telling her what I was thinking because she might use it to taunt me, and now, I didn't have the heart to receive that. All I could do right now was imagine the look on her face if she heard that I was still thinking about the pregnancy discussion that had already ended some minutes ago.“Nothing, Camilla. I'm just thinking about food. That's all,” I answered, and she looked at me closely, as if expecting another response.“You are lying to me, Irene. You know that I can tell, right?” she asked, and I went mute, but she continued anyway. “You know that I

Irene"I’m done. I'm so done!”There were so many things going on with me, and I couldn’t second-guess! I already knew I was fed up with a lot of things. But how could I get myself out of this? I had been seriously thinking about it, and nothing seemed to come forth.Camilla groaned beside me, hitting her legs on the floor."Oh, not this again. Can't you just try and let go already?” she asked, and I shot her a look that almost made her swear to leave me.“Yes, this again. I'm fed up. Can't you see? The least you could do was encourage me. You are my friend, for crying out loud,” I responded and She rolled her eyes, shifting uncomfortably."Irene, I know you. I know you better than anyone, and I can beat my chest and say this. You are mad now, but by tomorrow, you will just bury it like you always do,” she said, and I couldn’t protest because she was right. But… just because I always buried it didn’t mean I would continue to do that. I had already been pushed to my limit."Not this ti

Irene“But you know what, Irene? You are the last person I expected to see crawling back to me,” Kael said, bursting my bubbles. The switch in his reaction was crazy. So, everything he said to me earlier was just to deceive me that he actually felt good about helping me. This time, his eyes were burning with fire and his smile appeared wicked. I looked lost in everything and his laughter came rumbling close to my ears. I almost wanted to walk away from him so that I could ignore the way his words made me feel bad. The reason I was here was not because I wanted to waste my time or to settle whatever we had in the past. I had one purpose, and I wouldn’t let his arrogance distract me.“Are you done?” I asked him and my voice flat remained flat and unimpressed.Kael smirked, pushing himself off the wall. “Not even close,” he answered. “I knew you might be wondering why I decided to honour your call. Tell me, princess, why would someone like you want to talk to someone like me? Were

IRENE’S POV"How long have I been this blind?"I wish I could get the answer to that particular question but there was no one here to answer me.I sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the wall, my fingers digging into the fabric of my dress. My heart pounded against my chest and this was not as a result of love or excitement. It was far from that. I just suddenly realised that my entire relationship had been a lie and it was not just a small lie.It was a massive, twisted and ugly deception that I had been entangled in and I had been the fool who believed in it.My throat felt dry and my chest tightened. Everything I knew kept flooding in and it kept on hitting me like a sharp slap to my face. I was totally ruined by everything going on with me. Silas’s cold glances and his empty apologies were not helping and I had ignored it all. He had warned me so many times about making a good decision to forget about whatever relationship k had but I had convinced myself that he was just

Lucien“You really think I did all of this to hurt you?” I asked, frustration clawing at the back of my throat.I should have let her be but guilt and regret were both threatening to swallow me whole. I had to make her understand. I had to explain everything but I was starting to realize that nothing I said would change how she saw me now.Irene stared blankly, but I could see the pain and anger in her eyes. All these emotions were in her eyes and stood there in front of me. While we stood there, I noticed that there was something cold in the air between us now. This was a feeling that had not been there before..She didn’t say anything for a long time. And then, as if the words had been boiling inside her for too long, she opened her mouth.“You did it for power. You can't convince me otherwise that you did it for your own damn selfish reasons.”My eyes bulged out and my lips fell open. I wanted to shout back at her and tell her that she was wrong, that she didn’t understand anyt

Lucien“You make me sick,” Irene said after everything. But I was not surprised she said that to me after all the words we had exchanged She was only triggered by me giving her space.Irene’s voice was cold, and it cut through the air like a sharp blade that aimed straight for my throat. It shouldn’t have affected me. It shouldn’t have sunk under my skin the way it did, but it did.I didn't have any control over that.I held my jaw tight, forcing down the fire that burned the tip of my tongue.I didn't have much patience left. I was already losing all that was in me.I muttered, “Is that so? Now, I suddenly make you sick?” crossing my arms over my chest. She scoffed, shaking her head as if she couldn’t believe what she was hearing.“You had all the power in the world to stop this, but you let it happen. You let them kill my father. And now you expect me to just… accept everything? You must be out of your mind!” she yelled at me, and the accusation stung me hard.A bee sting would hav

IreneI didn’t know when I suddenly switched. The other minute, I was already saying that I was going to be Lucien’s spy to help bring down Malcolm.I guessed I said all of that because Malcolm was the one who did all of these to hurt me and my family. He was the one who killed my father, making me pass through this pain and stress that I was going through now.I didn’t need anyone to tell me anything. I needed to help myself and also help get the revenge that I sought after. But after countless thoughts, I had a change of mind instantly. It was as though I got a click that all these thoughts were a lie.I shouldn’t trust anything that Lucien said."You are lying," I blurted out. I didn’t mean to say it out loud, but the words slipped before I could stop them.I was not to blame for that. Me accusing Lucien of lying didn’t mean that I had proof that he was lying. It was just that everything he said did not align with my thought process."I’m not. How could you suddenly call me a liar

Lucien I couldn't run in circles anymore. I had to tell her the truth."They want me dead, Irene," I informed her, making sure she heard me properly.Irene’s face twisted in confusion, and she readjusted her dress on her body, moving closer to the table beside her."I'm sorry. I swear, I don't understand what you mean by that," she answered, and I knew she was only playing me around. I was going to tell her everything anyway. I had already made up my mind."Alright. I will explain. I said the Council…" I started, bringing my voice low. "They have been plotting this for months and maybe years. They want me out of the way so they can replace me with Chris. They want to dethrone me," I explained, and Irene blinked, shaking her head. She couldn't believe what she was hearing, but it was the truth."They want to replace you with Chris? Your Beta?" she asked, and I nodded. Was there anyone else named Chris that she knew? I was talking about the one who followed me around, claiming he had m

IreneThat was not the end. In fact, whatever issue we both had continued, and it made me want to talk more to him.“Is there anything you are expecting me to say, Irene? I need to know because you keep calling me back like you're forgetting something,” he said, and I nodded. He was right. I was forgetting something, and that was because of him."If you want me to leave, then I will have to go back on my word. I would have to tell everyone, and I don't fucking care what you have to say that would stop me,” I revealed to him, and my voice rang through the room. My voice was so sharp that even a deaf person could hear me.Lucien stiffened at the sound of my voice, and his eyes flickered with shock, anger, maybe even fear.I didn’t care much about that because I had long told him all I had to say."You wouldn’t do such a thing. Stop switching up immediately just because I said you can leave if you want. Don't you crave freedom again?” he asked, and I laughed. He was making sense, and he

Irene"You are still in pain?" I asked as I saw Lucien writhing in pain.Lucien barely reacted to my words and blatantly ignored me as if I was talking to myself. That was quite rude. I was only showing that I cared about him, and now he was pretending as if no one did.Fine! If that was what he wanted. Whatever suited him then.I tried to ignore him, but I couldn't. My conscience was pricking at me, and I had to attend to him."Lucien. Are you still hurting?" I asked again, this time my voice was louder, and his back was turned.I had expected to see him healing by now. I expected him to be stronger and sharper, the way he always was.But he looked weaker than before. He looked like something was slowly eating him inside, causing him to look so pale.I stepped closer to him with my hands akimbo. I didn't like the fact that I was kept on the edge."Lucien, please talk to me. I have been here for the past few minutes asking you some questions, yet all you do is ignore me," I complained

IreneI was already tired of asking numerous questions without getting answers.Nothing seemed to be working for me anymore, and I had given up. It was clear that no one cared, but I was still doing everything I could to get the truth.I was only fooling myself in the long run."Maybe you are just being foolish!"The harsh thought came to me, unbidden and as sharp as a dagger.I had gone through a lot in the few days, and with what I was thinking, I was not going to get over this torture anytime soon.I sat on the edge of the bed, my arms wrapped around myself and my head lowered. My heart was heavy with frustration curling in my chest like a restless beast.Lucien shut me out. Again!I couldn't count the number of times he did that to me, and now, I was left to my hopeless self.No matter how much I pushed, no matter how many questions I asked, he refused to give me the answers I needed."It is your father’s wish."That was all he would say over and over again.
