Lucien

"You didn't hear this from me, but... your woman has been in Kael’s bed for weeks."

Those words hit my ears hard, and I stopped mid-step.

This was serious, and it was a very harsh accusation that needed to be defended.

Perhaps I didn’t hear him well. Maybe my mind was playing games with me.

Nowadays, I wasn’t able to rest properly, so I was hearing things. Maybe this day was part of those days.

Slowly, I turned to face the guard and looked at the mouth where the words left.

He stood stiffly like a statue when he saw me, but I saw the glint in his eyes despite him looking blank.

He was pretending, and he was trying to deceive me. A glint that said he knew exactly what he was doing.

"What did you just say?" I asked him, urging him to repeat what he just said, but he refused.

He was daring me. I was not going to take it lightly.

The guard hesitated, scratching his head, then took a small step back as if realizing he had gone too far. But he didn’t take his words back.

IreneI heard a sharp crash of something breaking downstairs, making me jerk up from my chair."What the hell is going on down there?” I asked no one in particular as the sound came louder this time.At first, I thought it was just an object smashing into the wall, but that was not the case. The sound was too loud for such an assumption, and it was too early for anything to be happening. My heart pounded as I listened, straining to catch the voices through the thick walls that blocked everywhere. While my ears stood erect and I placed it almost to the door of my room, I heard more shouting, followed by a deep, loud growl that was so familiar."Isn't that Lucien?” I asked, and immediately, my fear heightened. What was happening that would make him shout that way?I didn’t wait to spend another minute in my room. I was already changing into a better cloth, and quickly, I pushed the door open.Looking down from upstairs, the sight of what I saw made my stomach drop.It was Lucien and Kae

Lucien"You are lucky you have a thick skull. Sometimes, I wonder if you feel pain with these wounds on your body," Irene said to me as she began tending to my wounds. Her touch was unbearably soft, and I wished this could go on forever. I enjoyed the way she was taking care of me like I was some little child."This is nothing compared to what I have had before, Irene. I doubt if I feel any pain. Besides, I'm a man. Do you expect me to cry like a child?" I asked her, and she smiled. She dipped the cloth into the bowl of water beside her, wrung it out, and pressed it gently against the cut on my cheek. The sting was nothing compared to the ache in my chest. That ache had nothing to do with bruises or broken bones. It was entirely different."Oh, really? I see. I never expected you to cry out anyway," she said, and I tried to smile."I have had worse. That's just the point," I muttered, and she shot me a look, unimpressed."Stop saying that. It's not something to be proud of," she scold

Irene"Who the hell was knocking at this hour?" I asked again through gritted teeth.I was already mad that my pleasurable moment had been disrupted by this knock.“Should I go and get the door?” I asked Lucien because the knock on the door was only getting louder as each second went by.I clicked my tongue on the roof of my mouth. I was torn between frustration and concern because of the sharp and relentless pounding on the door.My breathing was still uneven, and my body was still heated up from Lucien’s touch, and now… this.Lucien groaned behind me, his hands still resting on my waist, and he refused to let me go."Ignore it," he muttered, and his voice was thick with irritation. "Whatever it is, it can wait. Let's finish what we started,” Lucien said, trying to take my mind away from what was happening.I tried to focus on him, but the knocking only grew more desperate.Something was wrong.I exhaled sharply, stepping away from Lucien’s warmth and pulling my dress tighter around

IreneAfter dealing with Silas’ issues, I found myself in Lucien’s room while he was out.I missed that cocky bastard. I found myself looking for things in his room. I didn’t know what exactly I was looking for, but I kept searching."What else are you hiding from me, Lucien?" I asked, tracing my fingers over the leather-bound journal on his desk.I knew I shouldn’t be doing this. But the moment I saw my father’s name written on the edge of a page, I had every reason to.I felt guilty for a while because I was intruding on his privacy, but…I wasn’t going to apologize.I had been waiting for answers but had found none, and he had also refused to talk to me about it.His handwriting was bold and easy to read, and I pierced my eyes through every word."The pack deserves better.""I will do anything to protect them, even if it means making impossible choices.""Irene... if she ever knew the truth..."I sucked in a sharp breath, and my heart fell. This was not making any single sense to me."You knew,” I thundered and the words left my lips as they crashed into his ears.Lucien stood frozen, watching me. Maybe he didn't know what to say but I could only tell that he was faking everything. He was pretending to be sad as I accused him of everything. He was aware of how seeing this was towards me.He knew I felt bad just because of what I saw and all he could do was to stand there and say nothing?Come on, Lucien. He needed to do better, and I am not going to leave without a fucking explanation.I took a shaky breath, gripping the document tighter in my trembling hands."You knew my father wasn’t guilty,” My voice shook but I forced myself to keep speaking because I was going to demand answers from this already dumb man. IreneI was already tired of asking numerous questions without getting answers.Nothing seemed to be working for me anymore, and I had given up. It was clear that no one cared, but I was still doing everything I could to get the truth.I was only fooling myself in the long run."Maybe you are just being foolish!"The harsh thought came to me, unbidden and as sharp as a dagger.I had gone through a lot in the few days, and with what I was thinking, I was not going to get over this torture anytime soon.I sat on the edge of the bed, my arms wrapped around myself and my head lowered. My heart was heavy with frustration curling in my chest like a restless beast.Lucien shut me out. Irene"You are still in pain?" I asked as I saw Lucien writhing in pain.Lucien barely reacted to my words and blatantly ignored me as if I was talking to myself. That was quite rude. I was only showing that I cared about him, and now he was pretending as if no one did.Fine! If that was what he wanted. Whatever suited him then.I tried to ignore him, but I couldn't. My conscience was pricking at me, and I had to attend to him."Lucien. Are you still hurting?" I asked again, this time my voice was louder, and his back was turned.I had expected to see him healing by now. I expected him to be stronger and sharper, the way he always was.But he looked weaker than before. He looked like something was slowly eating him inside, causing him to look so pale.I stepped closer to him with my hands akimbo. I didn't like the fact that I was kept on the edge."Lucien, please talk to me. I have been here for the past few minutes asking you some questions, yet all you do is ignore me," I complained

Lucien“You really think I did all of this to hurt you?” I asked, frustration clawing at the back of my throat.I should have let her be but guilt and regret were both threatening to swallow me whole. I had to make her understand. I had to explain everything but I was starting to realize that nothing I said would change how she saw me now.Irene stared blankly, but I could see the pain and anger in her eyes. All these emotions were in her eyes and stood there in front of me. While we stood there, I noticed that there was something cold in the air between us now. This was a feeling that had not been there before..She didn’t say anything for a long time. And then, as if the words had been boiling inside her for too long, she opened her mouth.“You did it for power. You can't convince me otherwise that you did it for your own damn selfish reasons.”My eyes bulged out and my lips fell open. I wanted to shout back at her and tell her that she was wrong, that she didn’t understand anyt

Lucien“You make me sick,” Irene said after everything. But I was not surprised she said that to me after all the words we had exchanged She was only triggered by me giving her space.Irene’s voice was cold, and it cut through the air like a sharp blade that aimed straight for my throat. It shouldn’t have affected me. It shouldn’t have sunk under my skin the way it did, but it did.I didn't have any control over that.I held my jaw tight, forcing down the fire that burned the tip of my tongue.I didn't have much patience left. I was already losing all that was in me.I muttered, “Is that so? Now, I suddenly make you sick?” crossing my arms over my chest. She scoffed, shaking her head as if she couldn’t believe what she was hearing.“You had all the power in the world to stop this, but you let it happen. You let them kill my father. And now you expect me to just… accept everything? You must be out of your mind!” she yelled at me, and the accusation stung me hard.A bee sting would hav

IreneI didn’t know when I suddenly switched. The other minute, I was already saying that I was going to be Lucien’s spy to help bring down Malcolm.I guessed I said all of that because Malcolm was the one who did all of these to hurt me and my family. He was the one who killed my father, making me pass through this pain and stress that I was going through now.I didn’t need anyone to tell me anything. I needed to help myself and also help get the revenge that I sought after. But after countless thoughts, I had a change of mind instantly. It was as though I got a click that all these thoughts were a lie.I shouldn’t trust anything that Lucien said."You are lying," I blurted out. I didn’t mean to say it out loud, but the words slipped before I could stop them.I was not to blame for that. Me accusing Lucien of lying didn’t mean that I had proof that he was lying. It was just that everything he said did not align with my thought process."I’m not. How could you suddenly call me a liar

I had to tell her the truth."They want me dead, Irene," I informed her, making sure she heard me properly.Irene’s face twisted in confusion, and she readjusted her dress on her body, moving closer to the table beside her."I'm sorry. I swear, I don't understand what you mean by that," she answered, and I knew she was only playing me around. I was going to tell her everything anyway. I had already made up my mind."Alright. I will explain. I said the Council…" I started, bringing my voice low. "They have been plotting this for months and maybe years. They want me out of the way so they can replace me with Chris. They want to dethrone me," I explained, and Irene blinked, shaking her head. She couldn't believe what she was hearing, but it was the truth."They want to replace you with Chris?
