~*~Lucien~*~
Closing my eyes I sighed, the council meeting was on its third day and nothing was getting accomplished. The packs were divided half ready to go to war and the other half wanting to take the wait and see approach. I was just ready to get back to Samantha and believe me I had thought of every possible way to get out of this with no luck.
A rouge pack had recently entered the area and had been stirring up trouble behind them. It had been years since the last pack wars had raged on and many didn’t want to see that happen again. Being my pack’s Alpha made me obligated to be at all council meetings. My dad was the only one who could fill in for me, I had taken my position as Alpha after he stepped down. My Beta Ethan was protecting the pack back home.
Looking around the room I saw Dad’s best friend Clark who was the Alpha of our neighboring pack, beside him sat his son Trenton. Our eyes meet and he shook his head, we had just discussed last night that this was taking too long. Everyone in the room knew we would be forced to go to war if the rouges did not leave or sign the peace treaty.
In unison we turned out gazes on Daryl and Silvia, they were the two-pack leaders who wanted to give the rouges more time to see if they were really a threat. All I knew was that I had already had two members of my pack go missing without a trace in less than two weeks, unless another pack had broken the treaty it could only be the rouges.
Silvia had stood to once again to argue his point but I had heard enough and began wondering about Samantha. I was still pissed that Tatiana has upset her. My inner wolf could not get Sam out of my mind, its need to claim her felt stronger every day but I was determined to take things slow. I mean how do you tell one “oh yeah by the way I’m a shifter.”
To be honest I had always thought the mate thing was a bunch of shit, another word for falling in love if anything. That all changed the day I met her. I had recognized her scent as my mates before I had ever seen her that day in the cemetery. The Sparks our body set off only confirmed my beliefs. My inner wolf had driven me crazy ever since that day, he wanted her claimed now and did not care about much else.
Shaking my head I saw the room empty before me. I was surprised to see Dad looking down at me, “you better mate her before the war or you’re going to get yourself killed.”
I cut my eyes up at him, I hated that both he and Damien knew that she was my mate. They had noticed my behavior toward her and knew it could only be one thing. Knowing Damien was with her made my inner wolf let out a low growl. Dad shook his head at me, “Damien would never touch her.” I let out a breath pissed at myself for letting my mental guard down.
We had decided to meet Clark and Trenton for lunch, sitting around the table I could only stare at my steak, I was in no mood to eat. “What’s his problem?” Clark asked.
Dad looked over at me and shrugged, “he has found his mate but has yet to claim her.”
Trenton busted out laughing, “claiming her will only make it worse.”
I snapped my gaze up at him, “and what do you know of it.” Trenton turned serious and looked down, he had yet to find his own mate and actually has claimed he does not want one.
Clark sat eyeing me, “now it’s none of my business and I’m sure your father has told you but there will be a war soon and she will be an open target. If you don’t claim her they will take her, if they don’t kill her first.”
I nodded at them and then started eating just to get them to shut up. My inner wolf was ready to explode at the thought of his mate being hurt or taken from him. I had no clue what this rouge group was capable of.
Back at the abandoned warehouse, the debating continued. Trenton and I sat in the back both thankful that our fathers had taken over. “Can I ask you a question?”
I turned to look at Trenton surprised, “yeah man what is it?”
Trenton wrung his hands, “I know this is personal but you fell in love once before and came home with a wife, what’s so special with the new girl?”
I sighed, of course, he would want to know, “with Kylie it was more of a sexual pull. I was young, I was free from command for the first time in my life and when I meet her she was like a breath of fresh air. I knew she wasn’t my mate, I didn’t feel the pull toward her, my inner wolf didn’t care one way or the other.”
Trenton nodded so I continued, “with Samanta I felt her before I even saw her, my senses could smell her and knew, my inner wolf demanded her. Like I have never had that side of my brain fight so hard for control. Being away from her is hard.”
Trenton shook his head at me, “I used to think all that was bullshit but I mean you of all people.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at him, “trust me your mate is out there and you will find her when you least expect it.” I stretched my leg listening to dad talk to the council for a minute. “I don’t know how to tell her. I’ve never told Kylie. In the back of my head I knew she wasn’t my mate and I never even tried to claim her. I mean can you imagine me being like oh by the way I’m a shifter and your my mate. I don’t know if you can feel it but you are.”
I honestly had no clue how to tell her, I mean she wasn’t from our world, she didn’t know any of the rumors about this area. Tristan let out a breath, I didn’t expect for him to answer my question. He was a known playboy never staying with one girl more than a week or two.
My phone vibrated in my pocket and pulled it out seeing it was from Jax. I had put him in charge of watching over Samantha while I was gone. He was young but wanted to prove himself. I smiled wondering what Samantha would think if she knew that the little red wolf she saw at night was actually Jax.
I kicked the printer ignoring Jax as he laughed behind me. “I swear to God if this printer jams one more time I’m going to scream.”Jax shrugged, “at least it waited until you were done printing the checks.”“Yeah, I guess,” I mumbled as I opened up the printer and pulled out the jammed paper throwing it in the trash can beside me. Closing it back up I put my hands on my hips and closed my eyes hearing the hum of the printer. I said a silent prayer that it would act right and not make me throw it outside. The front door chimed and I spun around caught off guard to see Lucien walk in not even glancing at me as he made his way to his office. I stared down the hall after him feeling let down that he didn’t speak. I mean hell he could have at least nodded his head at me.Jax sat down at my desk and started spinning around in my chair, “just go in there already.”I glanced down at him rolling m
I sat impatiently waiting on Lucien to spill whatever he was putting off telling me. We sat side by side holding hands, neither of us paying any attention to the tv in front of us. Letting out a deep breath I turned my head looking up at him, “you’re freaking me out.”Lucien looked down at me and I could almost see the wheels spinning behind his eyes. I braced myself for whatever he had to tell me. Seeing the internal battle he was fighting I started to think of every worst-case scenario and I started panicking. “Lucien you are killing me. Are you still married? Is it Tatiana? Do you have a kid or...” I closed my mouth unwilling to keep letting my imagination come up with more ideas.Shaking his head Lucien looked down at me, “no Sam. I’m not married anymore, I don’t have any kids, and Tatiana fucking wishes.”I couldn’t help but laugh at his face as he mentioned Tatiana. I started to apologize for my o
Monday morning I got up and dressed in a red and black striped sweater dress and black leggings with my knee-high black boots. Shutting the front door behind me I braced myself as a sharp wisp of wind hit me. Most of the weekend I had spent hiding in my house ignoring any and all calls or texts. I still wasn’t sure how I felt about Lucien but I was determined to show up for work and do my best to ignore him.Pulling up in the drive I saw Lucien’s truck and began having second thoughts about this whole thing. Shaking my head I decided it was now or never and I couldn’t afford to not have a job. If it came down to it I would look for another job. Jax opened the door for me and I couldn’t’ help but wonder if he knew, or was he like Lucien to? Sitting my purse down I made my way to the back and poured a cup of coffee.Pulling up my email I was highly aware of Lucien walking into the room. Jax quickly disappeared and I tried my best to ignore h
My head hurt, my stomach hurt and I still hadn’t ruled out the possibility that I was going crazy. Lucien had left to run an errand but was coming back with supper. I really didn’t know what else to say to him. I mean what did you say? My boyfriend was a werewolf I either accepted it or not.The tv was flashing in front of me but I wasn’t watching it. I couldn’t focus. The time seemed to drag by and I couldn’t decide if that was a good thing or not. Standing up I went and looked out the front windows watching as the sun set. I shivered feeling chilled all of a sudden and went to the thermostat turning the heat on. I thanked God that this old house had central heat and air. It was obviously not built with it but someone had added it not long ago.The knock at the door made me jump as I held my hand to my heart. Lucien stood on the other side. Part of me still wanted to bare the door but the bigger part of me wanted him with me. Opening the
When I woke up it was still dark outside. Lucien was asleep next to me so I wiggled carefully inching my way out of bed. I dug in my dresser and grabbed the first tshirt and leggings my hands touched. Pulling my clothes on I was as quiet as possible, I wasn’t ready to face Lucien again. Opening the bedroom door I paused as I heard him move, I let out sigh of relief when I realized he had just rolled over.Step by step I took, almost as if I was a thief in my own house. With each creak I would pause and listen for any sign of movement. Halfway down I shook my head, fuck this I though as I continued down not caring how much noise I made. Once in the kitchen I poured myself a glass of tea and stared out the back door. I was about to return my glass to the sink when I saw the same little red wolf trot himself over to the shed and lay down. The little wolf had been watching me from day one. Sitting my glass down on the bar I unlocked the back door and opened it
By the time we made it out of WalMart I was exhausted. What started out as a simple trip for a tv ended up being a tv, PlayStation, PlayStation games, and more junk food than I think I have ever seen in my life. On top of all of that Jax had somehow convinced Lucien to take us out to eat. Jax had chosen Mexican food and as Lucien pulled up I frowned seeing how packed the place was. I tried my very best to persuade them to just get a pizza or anything fast but they both shot my idea down. Sitting side by side with Lucien I tried to study my menu and not him. The new knowledge I had of him made him seem almost like a new person. He wasn’t even really a person, he was some hybrid ancient thing. I mean it could be worse, he could have been a vampire. Laughing at my own joke both boys looked up at me sending me hiding back behind my menu. You know I heard that right? I jerked my head to look over at Lucien. He hadn’t spoken a word but I heard him
It had been over a week since the war had been declared and from the outside, everything appeared normal. I had only seen Lucien a handful of times since he left my house ordering Jax to “keep guard” over me. I was beginning to feel like a dog. I mean if I wanted to go outside, Jax had to take me. If I wanted to go to town, Jax had to follow. I wouldn’t be surprised to find him outside my door in the mornings.I was going a little stir crazy, the office and the entire construction crew was on “vacation.” I guess I had always known that everyone that worked for him was like him but some part of me didn’t believe that the entire crew was made of werewolves. Pulling my cell phone out of my back pocket I tried calling Lucien but his phone went straight to voicemail, the same as it has been doing for the past few weeks. Although I would have to admit that he did show up pretty quick after I left him an ugly voicemail a couple of days ago.
We had decided to go a couple of towns over to eat. Lucien was quiet most of the ride. I wanted to ask him what was wrong but studying him more I could see he was tired and I wondered just what being at war with another pack meant. Were they actually fighting? As I sighed he reached over grabbing my hand squeezing it. Glancing up I smiled at him. I had missed him. Funny how things change, who would have thought that I would be in love with a werewolf. The restaurant was crowded, following behind our waitress I inhaled the heavenly smell coming out of the kitchen. As we took our seats I gave my order for tea and spinach dip as an appetizer as we looked over the menu. Lucien and I sat side by side and my body sang with joy at his closeness. True to his world Jax chose the most expensive thing on the menu that came with a little bit of everything on it. Lucien and I both ordered a steak and shrimp combo that came with broccoli.Taking a bite of the spinach dip I looked ov
Samantha’s POV Sitting in the rocking chair I shook my head listening to Lucien, Damien, Nikko, and Jax all argue about how to put the crib together. They all had their own opinions and almost all of them were wrong. Yesterday the diaper table had almost started another feud between the brothers and Jax always kept things stirred up. It would be funny if it wasn’t me having to break them apart. The boys got along for the most part but the last couple of days and their procrastination were taking its toll on all of them. Today was the last day they had to prepare everything. Tomorrow was the full moon. In the last month or two, Lucien had immersed me into his life. I’d finally been formally introduced to the entire pack. We had been talking to lawyers to legally adopt Jax. There was still a lot of unrest in the pack. Paul’s betrayal had stung deep. Nikko and his pack had been fully accepted in without too many arguments. No more borders, no more treaties, they
Lucien’s POVMy hands shook as I walked up the driveway to Sam. I could see her waiting for me on the porch and it made me nervous. Me. Lucien Blackwood. Alpha of the Blackwood pack. Nothing ever made me nervous. Nothing except that small witch that carried my child. She was everything to me, everything to us.I could feel her eyes on me before I was even close enough for her to see me. What did I say to her? What had she told Nikko? My mind was running away with itself. I was afraid she was going to leave. Leave the pack. Even after being blessed by the moon. She had told me this wasn’t her world. She didn’t understand it and didn’t feel like she fit in. How did I explain to her that she was the missing piece to this puzzle?Samantha walked down the steps meeting me. Looking down at her I had to hold my inner wolf in. He wanted me to remind her who’s she was right then and there. Remind her that she was ours. I couldn’t let h
Lucien’s POV I lifted my arm shielding my eyes from the bright light that erupted out of nowhere. The Moon Goddess’s words still whispered into my ear. “Two brothers chose her fate. Two brothers have to sacrifice. One has to choose the night one the day.” I had no clue what she meant, what sacrifices I w
Lucien’s POVAs I walked with my brothers to meet my father I couldn’t think how ironic it was. I was walking toward the one man I used to think the world of flanked with two of my former biggest enemies. One brother who had slept with my wife and one brother who was attracted to my mate. There had to be some destiny shit happening here.My father had us meet him at the old mills. I had always thought of it as a ghost town. It had been abandoned since the ’70s. Damien and I had been warned of the dangers but we had snuck down a couple of times. It had always creeped me out a little. The whole place creaked and the old building were falling down around themselves.“He’s close,” Damien said looking around.I nodded, “he’s hiding in the shadows up ahead. He has people stationed along the edge of the woods but I can’t read them. They aren’t ours.”As I turned to look at Nikko he shook hi
Samantha’s POVI sat on the swing looking out at the woods. I knew he was coming, I could feel him. The sun had set leaving nothing put stars to light up the night, the moon was nowhere to be seen. I wondered where Lucien was, I could feel him but he wasn’t approaching. Why would he send Nikko to me?The minute Nikko broke through the tree lines I felt a little twinge of excitement and I had to ball my hands at my side to not rush up to him. It was important for me that things go smoothly for him, I didn’t want him to lose everything he had gained because of me. Yet still, as he walked closer to me our eyes connected and that same forbidden bond was there. It drove me crazy. This place was turning me into someone I wasn’t and it scared me. Nikko paused at the foot of the steps looking up at me. “Are you ok?”I nodded unbarring my fits at my side, “yes. No. I don’t know Nikko I’m confused.”
Samantha’s POVSeeing the tears in Lucien’s eyes was my undoing. Even in his own pain he wrapped his arms around me and held me until it was time for him to go. As he left I clutched Aunt Violet’s journal to my chest, I was determined to learn more about her. Maybe I could even decipher some of the visions others couldn’t.“I love you,” I sent Lucien as he reached the tree line.Turning back to look at me his voice appeared in my head, “I love you too. My Luna. My moon.”As he disappeared behind the dense trees I wiped more tears from my eyes. Lucien loved me, he loved me even after my betrayal to him. I would have lost my mind if he had told me he had kissed another girl but he, he had accepted it for what it was and moved on.Walking inside the house I went and made a cup of coffee before I opened Aunt Violet’s journal. Her handwriting was at times hard to read. She wrote wit
Lucien's POVAs we walked back to her house I kept stealing glances at Sam, her tear-streaked face brought pain to me every single time. Don't get me wrong, my inner wolf was furious at her. He was ready to snap but I couldn't. I would never turn on her again. I had control of my inner wolf, not the other way around. He obeyed me, for without me there was no him.Jax was standing on the porch awaiting us. "Did you get it," I asked?Nodding Jax handed over a worn leather journal, his eyes focused on my poor Luna who was obviously distressed. We had to figure this out. I didn't need my dad's rendition, I needed to read the vision in Violet's own hand.Walking up the steps Sam and I set on the porch swing and I handed over the journal to her. "This is every single one of your Aunt's visions. Some were incomprehensible and made no sense to anyone but her. Some have come true. The pack believed in her abilities and take her word as fact. I have no idea w
Samantha’s POV“Excuse me, what did you just say?” I looked at Lucien as if he had lost his mind.Things had started off fine this morning. We had made our way downstairs and I was in the middle of cooking breakfast when I decided to ask him about the treaty. I don’t know for sure if it was the way he kept trying to dodge the question or the fact that we were still alone in the house but I knew there was more to the story than he was telling me.“There is a clause in the treaty that states neither pack can cross into the other’s territory without starting a war.”Once again he said it just like he was saying it was going to rain this afternoon. “Lucien he is your brother. Don’t you want to get to know him?”“No,” Lucien said looking up at me. “He seems decent enough for a rouge but there is nothing to tie me to him, Sam.”Shaking my head I turned my back on h
Samantha’s POVDamien and I sat on the porch looking out at the night waiting on any word from Lucien. The night was quiet but my mind was full of voices, voices that were not my own. I couldn’t place them, I couldn’t quiet them down. I was exhausted and it was starting to show.“The treaty has been signed,” Damien said looking over at me as he pushed the swing back off with his feet.“No war?”Damien shook his head, “not with Nikko, dad however is still unclear.”Frowning I looked up at the mood, “is Lucien really back normal?”Once again Damien shook his head, “yes. He snapped out of it the moment he sensed you were in danger. I think Nikko might have knocked him down a peg or two by taking you. Lucien has always thought he was untouchable.”
