[Apple]

The door to the van flies open.

“WITCH!!!” Zion is screaming, his hand pointing, his face bright red as he gasps for air between shouts. “DEMON!!”

I turn, expecting him to be staring at my glowing hands now burning with sparkling fire. But he isn’t, he’s staring at the figure in the doorway.

A tall young man in a black leather coat glares at Zion with unflinching hate. His auburn hair floats around his ears, held aloft by the power flowing through him, glowing brightly through his skin.

Hawthorne Sparks, my best friend’s brother, now stands between me and my captor as he enters the back of the van, his fingers aglow with a vibrant violet flame.

His lips twist into a snarl as he leans over Zion. “That’s right, Asshole. I’m a witch and you’re just a wee bitty human who messed with the wrong mage.”

In a flash of light, the fire surrounding Thorne’s hand leaps from him into Zion’s chest. It sizzles as it grows across his chest, stretching to cover his body and coating it like a bla

I hope you are all enjoying the changes! I worked really hard to add new elements to the story that would enrich the experience. Please let me know what you think in the comments!

  • The Alpha and the Rental Luna   Chapter 152

[Araminta] Once they recognize who they are facing, the rest of the young wolves scatter as if they had just been confronted with the scariest monster from their childhood nightmares. And I guess, in many ways, that’s exactly what they’re facing. Channing is an impressive sight. At almost 6’5” tall with broad shoulders and muscles honed in battle, even in civilian clothes he cuts an impressive figure. “I’m sorry about them,” he apologizes, removing a red silk handkerchief from his breast pocket. “Pups these days have no manners.”

  • The Alpha and the Rental Luna   Chapter 151

[Araminta] That was the last time that I met with the Alpha King to negotiate the truce. In the end, the council of witches decided that the second agreement, the one that Chancy had created, seemed like the best compromise and guarantee of success. We knew the pack wolves and what they were capable of doing to us, but the rogues were a mystery. All of the stories we had heard from the borderlands were harsh and cruel, and whether or not they had any truth to them, we decided, as a unit, to go with “the devil we knew,” rather than deal with the uncertainty of “the devil we didn’t know.” I was the lone voice in the council room that voted for Channing’s deal. “It’s a chance for us to start fresh, to create a utopia away from the wolves. Channing even promised that.” Marlowe openly scoffed my points, and when I countered all of his arguments he said, “You seem awfully familiar with this wolf, Mrs. Sparks. I’d almost say you had feelings for him.” “Of course I do,” I responded with

  • The Alpha and the Rental Luna   Chapter 150

[Araminta][50 Years Ago] The Alpha and I have been locked in battle over territory for the last two years. Every month on the new moon, when both of us are at our weakest, we meet to discuss whatever suggestions we have for peace brought to us by the heads of our people. And even though currently we are discussing what to do about the newly named “Crescent City,” we both know that what we do here will affect how other packs and covens interact in nearby towns. Our choices could change the world. Which is part of why we are having such a hard time. Last week I found a solution, hidden away in one of my great grandmother’s old books–a family album that she kept tracking our ancestral Thorpe line. The spell is what we call a “great working” a spell so big and powerful it felt more like granting a wish than casting a spell. And this one required more than the usual full coven of elders, It required a full quorum of Master Witches from around the world as well as the power of every Al

  • The Alpha and the Rental Luna   Chapter 149

[Araminta]As witches, we are taught that all children are a blessing from the Moon Goddess, mother of witches and wolves. "Babies represent a new begining, a chance at a new start."And I can see the wisdom in this truth as I hold my great-great-grand daughter and place her in her mother's waiting arms. "She's perfect," I kiss her little brow, letting her mother see and smell and give her a name before handing little Arden to her auntie Hazel."Alpha, would you like to catch your son," I offer to the charming young wolf who captured my little Apple's heart. He looks terrified, but ready, his eyes wide with fear and excitement."Yes," his eyes shine for a moment as his wolf surfaces. "Please," he says using both voices, the man and wolf in full agreement. Now that he saw the first one born, and I know she is out of harm, I am pleased I can give him this experience to bond with both his mate and his child."Apple, hold onto my shoulder while I help your mate," she nods as her body rid

  • The Alpha and the Rental Luna   Chapter 148

[Calyx] As I fly over the desert between Moon River City and the mountains of California, I am reminded of all the hurt and pain my actions have caused when I was “too stupid to know better.” The earth is scorched. The human military got involved to protect the humans caught between the Brotherhood and Alpha King Sterling’s wolf forces. When the wolves had still been fighting one another, eliminating rogues rather than rehabilitating them, the wolves were still on the good side of President McKenna. But now she sends troops out to “keep the peace” but in reality we all know the truth. The humans are scared. No, they’re fucking terrified. The Alpha King has done something that hasn’t been seen in modern times–he’s actually unified most of the wolves under his command, including the rogues who gladly come to Moon River City for treatment and rehabilitation. In addition, he has created a welcome space for hybrids and brought the witches to the table–something that hasn’t happened in

  • The Alpha and the Rental Luna   Chapter 147

[Calyx] [A couple of hours ago] Time has passed and I’ve done my best to prove my worth. Some days, I even feel it might be possible to become a new wolf. But other days, my darker days, I wonder why he even bothered. I wasn’t worth saving. I should have been left to die, so that I wouldn’t have to consider what it means to be both a wolf and a good man. I wasn’t raised to be either. At one point, I think my adopted mother tried. I grew up thinking she was my real mom, that Zion was my real brother, until one day he told me the truth, brutal in the way that kids often are when they feel they’ve been wrong. “Why are you babying him,” Zion had pointed at me after I had one of my fits. “He’s just a dog you didn’t put down. He’s not my real brother.” I was 7. I didn’t know that I was a wolf yet, all I knew was that sometimes, my body would grow tight, and my vision red, and then the next thing I knew I’d be in bed, or on the floor with someone lying on my chest and no memory of the
