View MoreNick POV: I followed my father and Janet’s back into the kitchen, leaving Katerina’s comfort behind me. I didn’t want to go back in the kitchen, to see Janet’s bruised and bloodied body upon our dining table. The not-so-distant memory of hearing her scream, the sound terrified and terrifying, still resounded in my head. Do too did finding her, a red patch among the white, newly fallen snow. My mother had finished cleaning Janet and had begun dressing her in clean clothes when I entered the kitchen. Unwillingly, I glanced down, and had a moment where I could swear Janet was only sleeping. “Janet!” Her father cried, falling to his knees, and grasping her hand. His sobs where the only sound in the room, heart wrenching and broken. My father moved to stand behind him and placed a hand on his shoulder in comfort. “We will find the one responsible, Jack.” He promised. He nodded to my mother and with one final squeeze releases Janet’s father and beckon
Kian’s hands were warm on my skin as he pulled my shirt off, dipping his head and kissing one breast before moving to the other. I sighed as need surged through me, my hands skimming his bare chest, the shirt having been removed only moments ago. His muscles were taught and firm as he lifted me, sliding my pants ever so slowly off. Before they could it the floor my legs were around his torso, his lips claiming mine once more. Our tongues danced for dominance as Kian lowered me onto the bed. His lips left mine and trailed down my body, caressing and teasing as he made his way down to the very center of my being. My thrummed with desire as his mouth found the sensitive nub, his tongue swirled around sending jolts ecstasy through my limbs. Every part of me felt tight, held on by a thread as he slowly began to suck and tease, dipping first one and then two fingers deep inside. My breathing quickened as I moaned and writhed under his touch, feeling the threads pull apart.
I was in the kitchen early the next morning, having tossed and turned all night I decided I might as well just get up. I looked out the window and saw the dawn slowly begin spread across the landscape, freshly fallen snow glistened from the night before, and I smiled. This place was beautiful. I turned my attention back to my simple breakfast of oatmeal and toast, sitting down at the table to enjoy them and the early morning solitude. Unfortunately, this also gave me time to ponder Nick and his strange actions last night. With an exhausted sigh, I ate my breakfast in silence. I wanted Nick to want me, but I wasn’t entirely sure that his actions were because he did want me, but because of Kian’s presence and my ill hid interest in him. After last night, I was especially interested in seeing a little more Kian, I was ok with casual hook-ups, but I was beginning to want more. The past few relationships I had had helped to clear that up a little for me. I wanted to settle down,
Nick stormed out into the cold night and took a deep breath trying to calm himself down. Both anger and desire burned through him. He had wanted Katerina for so long, had longed for her love since they had been children. At first it had been a mild infatuation, a crush on the orphan child his parents had taken in, but as they had grown up and become closer, he had realized it was much more than that. For him, it had been a deep inescapable love from the beginning. As they had grown older, he had watched as she had boyfriends and lovers. He had been supportive of each broken heart she went through, and quietly stewed in his jealousy. Katerina was a once in a lifetime kind of woman. She was kind and cared so deeply about those around her. She was so strong and stubborn but seemed so small and fragile to him too. That alone was the reason he had kept his feelings to himself. The cold air swirled around him as the wind picked up a little, flakes of snow beginning to fall
I left Galan and Nick, leaving the living room, and working my way to the kitchen. My mind was reeling after all that Galan had told us.“The Council of Keepers are comprised of pack alphas from all over the world who have taken an oath to forever keep the location of Lycaon hidden from the rest of the world”I rummaged around a bit, looking for something to eat. I finally settled on an apple, not feeling like putting to much effort into dinner. As I munched, I couldn’t stop thinking about how Galen had also told us that he was part of the council. I frowned; just how much was being hidden from us all? No, I didn’t think that telling people Lycaon was real and a potential threat, at least not yet anyway. The last thing we needed was panicked pack members.“You need to eat something more substantial than that” Nicks voice broke through my thoughts, pulling me back into the kitchen and reality.“You haven’t ea
Galan led us unto the den of our living quarters, sitting himself into the chair by the fire. It had been lit by one of the serving men who had run ahead of us, anticipating that we would come here to talk. I sat on one of the other chairs near the fire, I was still chilled to the bone from being outside all day, but now I was also cold for other reasons. Nick pulled his chair near his fathers and sat, waiting for his father to speak. Galen turned and addressed his son,“Nick, as the next leader of our pack, what I am about to say would have been passed to you regardless although I had not thought it would be so soon. Katerina, I also wish to share this with you, though you are technically not in line for any leadership. It is important that you listen with open minds." He paused and took a breath."Upon the ascension of each alpha, not just in our pack but others across the world, the story of Lycaon and his heinous deeds are passed down in the belief that shoul
Chapter Two:Lycaon? He was just a legend told to the children to get them to behave, there was no way Kian was serious. As I stared at him in disbelief, he did look serious though.“I do not recognize you; I have never seen you at any of the Kairos. Lycaon is just a legend. You lie, wolf!”The Kairos was a gathering of all the neighboring packs who lived in this part of the world, it was how we stayed connected with news and kept up with friends and family who married into different packs. Nick startled me a little with his harsh tone, but I had to agree. There was just no way I could believe this.“Besides, “I added, “Why would he choose here in the middle of the nowhere anyway?”Kian nodded, “I didn’t believe it either, but there has been evidence of Lycaon and his followers trekking these woods. Especially around the area my pack and I had been settled recently. Because we are nomadic, we rarely a
Chapter One:“Why is it always so cold here, Katerina!”A baritone voice spoke from behind me. I turned and looked at my hunting partner and best friend. I had to agree though, I hated the cold. Nick however was a true werewolf; he really did love the snow.“Stop complaining Nick, you know as well as I do that if the snow ever stopped falling here you would be upset about that, too. We are almost to the lake so start helping me look for caribou tracks.”Though there were none that I could see, realistically we should have been able to scent them by now. I lifted my face to the cold air and took a long breath in through my nose, tasting the air for any hint that there was even one caribou nearby. Nothing. I frowned a little, there was no reason that I could see that they shouldn’t be here.Around us the forest lay quiet and still, not surprising as it was so bitterly cold.
