I simply couldn't believe my eyes and my hands instinctively moved to rub them as if it would change what I was seeing. There were thick silvery chains weighing down both of my ankles, preventing me from taking another step forward. The wolf that we saw before suddenly made its appearance as it walked out from the thick trees and approached us. "What is this? What is going on?" I asked in a shaky voice as I turned to stare at the prince before my eyes ventured to meet those of the wolf. Prince Leonard was just as shocked as I was at the abrupt appearance of those chains. Nothing logical could have explained what was happening. It felt like we had stepped into a world of dark magic and that everything was being controlled by the wolf that we saw. “Mila, are you okay?” The prince asked as his brows drew into a deep frown.I was honestly more confused than scared with what was going on. Once again, I hated to feel that I was a burden to the prince and that he had to worry about me.
Everything felt so unreal including the speed at which I was traveling. Somehow I managed to run quite fast even though I was moving along an unfamiliar path. All I knew was that I had to catch up to my parents and I had to find out what exactly happened that night in the forest. If what I was seeing was a part of my lost memories, then it meant that this had happened before some time in the past when I was just a young girl. This must be one of the memories that I have lost from the time before I joined the orphanage. It was evident that my family was fleeing from something that night and that was how we ended up in the deep dark forest. As to what or who exactly we were fleeing from I had absolutely no clue. “Wait for me! Please! Please wait!” I cried out at the top of my lungs as I continued running forward. After what felt like an eternity of running I finally caught sight of my parents. I knew that I needed to close the distance between myself and them. Suddenly, I heard the so
“No. You can't go after them!” I yelled at the top of my lungs when I was finally certain that the prey that they were hunting wasn't me at all.My parents and the younger version of myself were in extreme danger. I ran as fast as I could after the wolves and after my parents while I prayed desperately that I would catch up to them before something bad would happen. Although I was safe, I knew that they were in great danger. A foul sickening taste filled my mouth as I feared for the worst. Although I couldn't remember what happened, I could frankly imagine what the end of this hunt entailed. Was this how I lost and got separated from my parents? For a moment, I started to dread the answer to this question. Although I figured that my parents had probably passed away a very long time ago, when I was younger because I couldn't remember them, there was a time when I hoped and prayed that my parents would one day magically turn up to pick me up from the orphanage. I wished that we would b
“I love you. We love you. Remember that we will always love you,” my mother told me as she reached up a hand to stroke my hair.“You have to go now. There is not enough time. Run as fast as you can and don't look back. Forget about us and forget about everything. Start a fresh new life, Mila…” my father said as he placed a hand on top of my head. I had no idea what happened after that because suddenly I felt a whirling sensation deep inside of my mind and then everything went pitch black.“Mila! Mila!” I could hear someone calling my name but his voice felt so soft as if he was so far away from me. My lips wouldn't move and I couldn't make a sound. It felt like I had completely no control over my body and I couldn’t move a muscle. It just felt like I was in an unknown place while just floating in thin air.“Mila! Mila! Can you hear me?”I heard that voice again. A man was calling to me so desperately and with each call of my name, I could feel his voice getting louder as if he was c
The prince was silent and I did not expect that he would answer me. After all, I was just complaining about how fate was so cruel to us. Because I hadn’t expected him to say anything in response, I was slightly surprised when the prince suddenly unwrapped his arms from around my body and distanced me from him just enough so that he could look directly into my eyes.“This might be hard for you to accept but the answer is right in front of you, all you need to do is look in the mirror…” the prince replied before grinning a little at me.“What do you mean?” I asked before blinking blankly at the prince.“Come here with me for a bit, Mila,” the prince instructed as he got off the bed.Although I was confused, I didn't hesitate in taking his hand to let him help me off the bed. I followed him on shaky steps as he led me to a mirror. I truly never expected that I would find any meaningful answer just by staring at my own reflection in the mirror; however, it seemed that the prince was righ
“What else?” the prince asked. What else?“This is going to sound so strange, and I'm not sure how I'm supposed to tell you this. At first, it didn't feel like something abnormal. It just felt like a random dream but then that one dream started to become a series of dreams until I dreamt of him every single night. Sometimes I feel like I can sense him every time that I close my eyes,” I continued confessing to the prince.Suddenly, the Prince looked extremely interested in what I was telling him. There were still so many details that I remember so vividly from those dreams. However, I couldn't bring myself to tell him in words.“When you said that it felt like he was your lover. What do you mean by that?” the prince continued asking for more details.I wonder just how much he wanted to know and for what purpose. I honestly couldn't see the use of telling him the details of my dreams.“In my dreams, he would say such loving words to me and he would kiss and touch me…” I said before tr
“That's right, it was you…” the prince reaffirmed once again.“Me? Are you sure that the woman in your dream was really me? Did you clearly see what she looked like?” I ask as I struggle to believe him.“I think it's similar to your dreams. I didn't see her directly. However, I clearly saw her eyes and their unique quality,” he replied with certainty in his voice.“Her eyes?” I murmured.“That's right. Her eyes were of a slightly different color from each other's. Just like yours…” he replied before grinning my way.My hand instinctively flew to my eyes as I was reminded of this birth defect that I've had ever since I was born. My eyes had always been a slightly different color for each other and many people at the orphanage were freaked out by it. I had never thought that this abnormality was anything but weird and burdensome. “Your eyes are very attractive, Mila,” the prince said as if he could sense my troubled feelings.“Thank you…” I whispered before lowering my hand from my fa
“You're a smart girl. You got that right, Mila. You are indeed my mate,” the prince replied calmly and I could tell that he was dead serious about this.“Are you serious?” I blurted, although it felt like I already knew the answer.“I wouldn't joke about this,” he replied.“But how could that be?” I asked while feeling very stunned.“Why are you so surprised? Honestly, I thought that you would have figured it out by now. Even if you do not know the concept of mates, don't you realize that you're very attracted to me?” the prince asked if rest lips curved into a mischievous smirk. My lips quivered and I was at a total loss for words. It might be true that I was very attracted to the prince but I never realized that he also realized it and I couldn’t believe that he was actually pointing it out directly to my face. I felt heat rushed to my cheeks and I had to avert my eyes from his gaze.“I apologize for being so direct but you don't have to be shy about it. If it helps, I’m just as att
