Mathew Is Back

She rushes out to investigate, and she nearly drops to the ground in fainting.

Mathew has come back to the pack. She can't believe it.

Maybe she is dreaming? Has she started seeing things?

She walks out slowly, her eyes unblinking as she takes slow, tentative steps towards him, as though scared he might suddenly disappear if she made too much noise.

He stares back at her, and he looks almost angelic standing among the flowers in the yard, partially illuminated by the night lights.

She makes a point of wiping her facial expression as she gets nearer to him. She would like to tell him how relieved she is to see him, to see he is alive and well. She would like to let him know how empty the pack feels for her since his departure from it.

She would like to tell him that she has missed him and would like nothing better than to have him hold her in his arms until she has melted.

But she opens her mouth and all that comes out is...

"What was that noise?"
