STARLETTE

“Iris.” I called on my wolf as soon as I started driving.

“Yes?” She replied and sighed in relief. I couldn’t imagine how I would have felt if I had lost my wolf forever. Imagine losing one’s wolf in the process of searching for how to free another person’s wolf. That would have been tragic.

“I’m glad you’re still here.” I said.

She groaned. “I hated being constrained. It was as if I was locked in a dark hole; I could hear everything but couldn’t do anything.”

“I’m sorry I put you through that.”

“Okay.” She simply replied before retreating to the back of my mind.

My thoughts drifted to Lucius’ wolf, my heart filling up with pity for him. I wondered if that was how he had been feeling all his life. It was a torture no one should have to endure.

“Check on your wolf.” I told Bella, and she snapped her head in my direction.

“I did that the moment we left that place.” She replied.

“Is she okay?” I asked.

“Yes.”

Suddenly, a couple of military vans appeared in front of us,

MAXIMUSStarlette had been moving really funny. I didn’t want to suspect my mate; I wanted to trust her, but she was making it really difficult. She went from disappearing inside the woods, smelling like my brother, to leaving the pack and lying about her whereabouts. What was she really up to? She made me really anxious. And adding to my growing anxiety was my recent discovery about my brother, Lucius. What did he plan to do now that he had gotten his wolf? Was he conspiring with Starlette to betray me? Was that why I smelt him on her? Damn, my mind was going crazy with infuriating thoughts. I desperately hoped it wasn’t true, because if it was, I didn’t know if I could survive the heartache. The door to the bedroom was pushed open, and Starlette walked in. I had been waiting for her.“Where did you go to?” I asked for the nth time, hoping I would get a different response this time. The truth. She took a deep breath as she approached me, sitting beside me on the bed. I refused to lo

STARLETTEI was feeling down, my spirits low. Maximus had returned to the bedroom late last night and left before I even woke up. It was clear he was avoiding me, and I couldn’t help but wonder what he thought of me now. Did he hate me? Did he consider me a traitor?A pain pulled on my chest at that thought. My mind was a crazy mess as I wandered around the pack, hoping to clear my head and ease my mind. But the more I thought about everything, the more my thoughts seemed to spiral out of control. Like hell, I hated this feeling. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know what to tell him. I had gone to great lengths and risked a lot in trying to help Lucius get his wolf back; I couldn’t back out now, and I certainly couldn’t tell Maximus either. He would ruin every plan. Lucius suddenly appeared before me, pulling me out of my stream of thoughts. Talk about the devil.A smirk played on his lips. “I heard you wanted to see me yesterday.”I sighed heavily. “But you refused.”“But I’m he

STARLETTEToday was the day. The day Lucius would finally be freed from the shackles binding his wolf. After today, I would stop hiding and tell Maximus everything, regardless of the consequences. I only hoped and prayed that he would trust me again. What gave me some comfort was the knowledge that Lucius had no desire for the throne. So, there wouldn’t be any conflict over the crown once his wolf was released. When it was ten minutes before the time we had agreed to meet Amelia in the woods, I grabbed the compass she had given me and asked Bella to mind-link Lucius, reminding him of our arrangement. Fortunately, this time, he didn’t shut her out like he had before. We met at the entrance to the woods and walked together in silence.“Where are you taking me?” Lucius asked, his tone curious. “What is it that you couldn’t say back at the pack house?”“You haven’t told him yet?” Bella asked, clearly surprised.“Shhh.” I put a finger to my lips, silencing her.I turned to Lucius and shrug

MAXIMUSAt 7 PM, I entered the control room to monitor the screen displaying the activities in the woods. It was the time Starlette and Lucius had agreed to meet."Good evening, Alpha," the men monitoring the computers greeted me with a bow.I gave a nod of acknowledgement, standing in front of the screens with my arms folded over my chest.Lucius, Starlette, and her maid, Bella, appeared on one of the screens, and I ordered the men to zoom in. I watched closely, not wanting to miss a thing. Starlette seemed to be following a compass, and I wondered what she was doing with it, where they were going to, and what the hell they were planning. The farther they ventured into the woods, the more my curiosity grew. The idea of Lucius having an affair with my mate briefly crossed my mind, causing irritation to flare up inside me. I quickly shook my head to dispel the thought. If that were true, I would kill Lucius without hesitation."Leave," I suddenly ordered the men in the room.If my susp

STARLETTEI patiently waited for Maximus in the room. No, impatiently. Because I wouldn’t stop pacing, terrified that he might harm Amelia. I was the one who brought her here, and I would never forgive myself if anything happened to her. I just hoped he would keep his promise not to hurt her.It had only been minutes, but it felt like hours, each second intensifying my anxiety. I couldn’t wait any longer. I needed to know if she was okay.I hurried toward the door, my hand just touching the doorknob, when Bella’s voice sounded from behind."Seems you don’t value my life."Blowing out a frustrated breath, I turned around. Anxiety clouded my mind so much that I had forgotten Maximus threatened to take Bella’s head if she let me leave. I didn’t believe he would actually do it, but it was safer not to dare him.“I’m scared,” I admitted, my voice trembling.“I warned you about the risks,” Bella muttered.I so much hated the ‘I told you’ moment. While it could have simply been a dream, there was also a possibility that her dream was a warning. And with the recent threat to my pack, I was slightly worried.I snapped back to the present when Kade nearly slashed through my abdomen during our sparring session. I quickly jerked back, narrowly avoiding his strike.“Fuck,” I growled under my breath.“You seem to be thinking a lot today.” He observed. “Anything you mind sharing?”“No.” I shook my head. “But we have to work harder to protect this pack.”“And that’s why we are here...” He glanced around, watching our warriors as they trained intensely. We were in a clearing deep in the woods, a place reserved for this kind of rigorous training. It was also where we had captured that witch. The memory of how she had outsmarted us and escaped flashed through my mind, and anger twisted in my gut. Stu

VIOLET My parents picked me up from my dorm room and drove me to the hall where the birthday party was being held—the very last place I wanted to be. “Violet, darling. How is your first day at school so far?” my mother asked on our way, looking at me expectantly. “Good,” I simply replied. She raised her brow. “And your roommate?” “She’s perfect,” I told her, looking away and peering through the window, hoping she’d drop the conversation. I wasn’t interested in small talk at the moment. I still hated that I had to come to this school and was being forced to attend the birthday party of that boy! “I trust you’ll blend in perfectly,” Father added. “Sure.” We arrived at the venue, and they positioned me between them as we entered. The hall was so huge, filled with overdressed students and their equally overdressed parents, all wearing the same plastic smiles as they mingled. I hated going to functions like this, and I specifically hated being at this particular one. As we ventured

AXEL That girl—there was something strange about her. In all my eighteen years, I had never seen anything like it. I was born with special gifts; the ability to read and control minds. But those gifts were as much a curse as they were a blessing because sometimes, I knew things I’d rather not. Yet no matter how much I tried, I couldn’t read her mind. She was a mystery, and I hated mysteries. She intrigued me, made me curious, made me want to get close to her. No girl had ever rejected me the way she did, and that bruised my ego. Brutally. Every girl wanted me; they all wanted to be in my bed—except her. And that, I decided, would change. I was going to make her want me, even if it meant dumping her afterward. Standing in front of the mirror in my dorm room, I checked my reflection one last time. My eighteenth birthday party was tonight, and everything needed to be perfect. Tonight, I’d meet my wolf for the first time, and the thought of that made me a little nervous, different scena

VIOLET Today, I resumed school at Equinox Academy—against my will. My father sent me here for selfish reasons; to forge alliances with the other Alpha Kings. In our realm, there were four Alpha Kings—ruling the North, South, West, and East. My father was the Southern Alpha King, and the Eastern Alpha King owned this school. According to him, the academy was established to promote unity among the kingdoms and to train young wolves in harnessing their strengths. Even witches were welcome here. For years, my father refused to let me attend this school. Then suddenly, without warning, he forced me to enroll—for his own gain—and in my senior year, no less! No amount of protesting could change his mind. He made it clear the decision was final. Oh, I hated that man! He never listened to anyone—not even my mother, the Luna—which made me wonder why she hadn’t rejected him yet. Their relationship wasn’t the greatest. In fact, I had never seen them act like a couple; their marriage seemed more

  • The Alpha King’s Special Mate   Epilogue.

EIGHTEEN YEARS LATER“Star, hurry up. We’ll be late for Axel’s birthday party,” Starlette’s mate called through the mind-link.Today was their son Axel’s birthday, and they were headed to his school to celebrate with him. Maximus had accepted Alpha King Henry’s proposal from years ago, and most of the northern kids now attended the school, including their son, Axel.Axel had grown into an exceptional young man—smart, compassionate, and strikingly handsome. He embodied everything a parent could wish for in a child, though his psychic ability had been a bit of a problem, as he sometimes used it when he wasn’t supposed to. Thankfully, the boarding school had taught him how to manage and control his gift.“I’m ready,” Starlette responded, adjusting her sea-green dress embroidered with silver threads. Staring at her reflection one last time, she stepped out of the room.Today wasn’t just Axel’s birthday—it was also their wedding anniversary. For eighteen years, Maximus had never failed to

MAXIMUSToday, I was getting married to the love of my life. She was my wife already, but I still wanted a proper wedding for her. Our wedding day was meant to be a core memory, something we would hold dear for the rest of our lives. Oh, we were going to have a blast—I would make sure of that.“You are the prettiest bride ever,” I told her as I gently gathered her hair to one side and adorned her neck with the diamond necklace I had gotten for her.We stood in front of the mirror, admiring how beautifully the necklace sat on her neck. She wore the most stunning white dress, and I was dressed in a sleek black tuxedo. Kade had argued that we should both appear in our ceremonial attire, but I refused, wanting to have a wedding that felt normal, like everyone else’s.Starlette fiddled with the pendant between her fingers, a sweet smile gracing her lips. “Thank you, Max. Words can’t express how much I love you.” She turned to face me, her eyes brimming with affection. “I love you so much—m

AMELIAMy heart ached for Starlette, feeling so sad that her father was killed, even though he deserved it. She was one of the strongest people I knew. She always stood strong, despite everything she had had to endure. And for that, I admired her. After undoing the spell on the circle where the invisibles had been kept, Lucius and I returned to his treehouse. We spent most of our time there whenever I was at Royal Crest because wandering around the pack as a witch could cause unnecessary tension. Even so, I loved it here. It was quiet, serene, and allowed Lucius and me to enjoy uninterrupted moments together.Right now, we were sitting by the stream, basking in the tranquility of the flowing water.“Do you think it is finally over? Do you think Silas will stop attacking with the invisibles now that his cover has been blown?” I asked Lucius as I turned to look at him.“I don’t know.” He shook his head. “But Silas isn’t one to back down easily. Even if he gives up on Starlette, he would

Despite the ill-fated relationship I had with my father, I wept for him.I had just woken up, my eyes heavy, and I felt too lazy to open them or even get out of bed. I was tempted to remain in bed when Maximus’ deep voice suddenly broke through the stillness.“Awake?
