VIOLET

My parents picked me up from my dorm room and drove me to the hall where the birthday party was being held—the very last place I wanted to be.

“Violet, darling. How is your first day at school so far?” my mother asked on our way, looking at me expectantly.

“Good,” I simply replied.

She raised her brow. “And your roommate?”

“She’s perfect,” I told her, looking away and peering through the window, hoping she’d drop the conversation. I wasn’t interested in small talk at the moment. I still hated that I had to come to this school and was being forced to attend the birthday party of that boy!

“I trust you’ll blend in perfectly,” Father added.

“Sure.”

We arrived at the venue, and they positioned me between them as we entered. The hall was so huge, filled with overdressed students and their equally overdressed parents, all wearing the same plastic smiles as they mingled. I hated going to functions like this, and I specifically hated being at this particular one.

As we ventured further into the hall, my eyes caught sight of someone, and I froze. The ever-arrogant Alpha prince. My gaze shifted to the girl standing next to him, registering the position the two of them were in. His arms were curled around her shoulders, pulling her in tightly. A strange feeling settled in my chest, and I had the sudden urge to rush over and yank his arm away from her. I closed my eyes, shaking that feeling off. What was wrong with me?

The next time I opened my eyes, he was standing in front of me, gripping my arm and attempting to drag me away.

I quickly caught my arm, glaring at him. “What do you think you are doing?” I hissed.

His expression faltered, confusion clouding his features. “You don’t feel—” He stopped mid-sentence, sighing as though realizing something.

Without another word, he grabbed my wrist and started pulling me with him again. I tried to wrest my hand free, but I couldn’t. He was just too strong.

“Leave me alone!” I yelled.

“What do you think you’re doing?” My father’s voice boomed as he stormed over, yanking Axel’s grip from my arm.

Axel’s eyes glowed red as he turned to look at my father, staring at him intently without saying a word. I knew immediately that he was controlling his mind.

“Yes. You can leave with her.” My father’s face suddenly relaxed, and that was the scariest thing I had ever seen. Axel Northwood really had psychic abilities. Dangerous.

“Axel Northwood!” The commanding voice of the school’s principal, Alpha Richard, cut through the tension as he stepped between us, his expression a mix of authority and anger. “What did we say about using your psychic abilities on school premises?”

Axel’s jaw tightened as he focused on the principal, clearly trying to control him. But the principal merely shook his head, unaffected. “You know that won’t work. I have since learned how to block you out of my mind. You are suspended from playing lacrosse for one week!”

“What?!” Axel exclaimed, genuine despair saturating his features. “You can’t do that. I can’t stay away from playing for one whole week.”

“If you can’t, then you’d better stop breaking the rules!” the principal stated firmly. “Now, apologize to the Alpha King.”

Axel turned to look at my father, reluctantly muttering, “I’m sorry.”

But Father wasn’t even paying attention to him. I trailed his line of sight to see him exchanging heated glares with the Northern Alpha King, none other than Axel’s father. The two of them had a terrible history and were sworn enemies.

Many years ago, before I was born, my father had kidnapped the Northern Luna Queen, a.k.a. the Mother Wolf. He’d intended to keep her for himself and sire a powerful heir. But fortunately for her and unfortunately for him, the Northern Alpha King rescued his Luna, not without having a near-death fight with my father. And according to witnesses, my father had been defeated, and the humiliation had fueled his rage ever since. So, yes, they had a tragic past.

I wondered why my father wanted to be here for Axel’s birthday party, though.

Slowly, the two Alpha Kings moved toward each other, their gazes holding a promise of death. Silence reigned, the room burning with tension.

“Alpha Kings.” The principal stepped between them, darting his gaze between the two of them, saving the day. “We have children present.”

Immediately, the two of them snapped out of it, but the promise of death remained in their eyes. After an intense moment of exchanging glares, the Northern King growled, “It is not over.”

With that, he turned away and walked back to his Luna, holding her in his arms to ease his tension. A bond my parents never shared.

I released a breath I didn’t know I was holding. I thought they were going to tear each other apart right here and right now. I mean, they would’ve if the principal hadn’t intervened.

Music suddenly echoed through the room, breaking the tension as the crowd began to disperse. A hand grabbed mine, and before I knew it, Axel was pulling me toward the dance floor. Not wanting to cause another scene, I quietly followed him.

“Dance with me,” he said, grinning as if the events of the past few minutes hadn’t happened.

Sighing, I nodded in agreement. “Fine. Only because I don’t want to draw any more attention.”

Wrapping his arm around my waist, he pulled me closer, whispering into my ear, “When is your birthday?”

Heat rushed to the pit of my stomach, all the nerves in my body surprisingly dancing at his touch. “What? How is that your business?”

“It’s my business because...” He leaned closer, his lips brushing against my ear as he nuzzled the crook of my neck. “…you’re my mate. And since I can’t play lacrosse because of you, you’ll have to keep me entertained whenever I’m bored. All through the week.”

My eyes widened in shock as I pushed him away.

“What?” I managed to choke out, staring at him in disbelief. “Mate?”

This couldn’t be happening. My worst nightmare.

I am coming to you,” I quickly told him.“No. I’ll come to you instead,” he replied. “Where are you?”“I’ll be waiting for you in the room,” I told him.“Okay, I’ll be on my way,” he said and ended the mind-link.My gaze lingered on the Alphas who were all trying to get into their various cars when one of them suddenly lifted their gaze toward the window I was standing by.A hard, hateful frown masked his face. He signaled to the Alpha beside him and he also looked up at me. A hateful look radiated through his eyes and I knew instantly that whatever was discussed today was about me. Perhaps they already knew that all the invisible attacks were because of me and they feared that I was trouble.Without hesitation, I pulled away from the window. My hand clutched my chest as I hurried toward the room.Gideon arrived after just a minute of waiting. He had a sour look on his face.“The meeting was a

GIDEONWe all sat around the rectangular table in the boardroom while we waited for Father to arrive. The doors opened twenty minutes later and he appeared in his black sleeping robe. My brows furrowed at how unconcerned he was, before an amused smile spread on my lips. I aspired to be like him.“Good day, Alphas,” Alpha King Theron muttered as he walked into the room and took the empty seat at the head of the table. “As you can see, I had already retired to bed when this urgent call came.”He leaned forward, planting his hands on the table before him. “What is the issue, Alphas? Why have you come this late requesting my presence despite the incoming Alpha King being here to address the issue?”“Alpha King,” Alpha Caleb from the Brightstone Pack muttered with a nod of his head, “we had strongly deliberated over this matter and decided to bring it forth today. It is about the Alpha Prince’s mate who would soon become the Luna Queen.”Even if they didn’t have my attention before, they h

DAISY“You know, finding the ones plotting against your pack is supposed to be your top priority and not this,” I teased as I leaned in and kissed his neck.“And who says one can’t have multiple top priorities?” he asked, tucking my hair behind my ear and staring deeply into my eyes. “You are so beautiful, Daisy. And I bless the day I met you. You are the best thing that ever happened to me.”“You are also undoubtedly the best thing that ever happened to me,” I curled my legs around him. “Thank you for finding me in the bar that day.”He jammed his lips on mine, kissing me sweetly and soulfully. I reciprocated with the same amount of passion. I loved this man more than I could even fathom.“The coronation is this weekend,” he withdrew his lips from mine and kissed my cheek softly. “Are you sure you are ready for the task ahead?”“I just need to practice the spell a little bit more. But I’ll be ready before the weekend. It’s still three days away,” I breathed.“We cannot do this alone.

DAISY“Hello, pretty witch,” Lila appeared from thin air, a wide smile spreading on her face.“What’s funny?” a hard frown masked my face. “You were spying on us and now you are trying to play it off as nothing.”“I wasn’t spying,” the smile on her lips lingered. “In fact, I was discussing with your mother when she sensed your presence. I followed her here and only cloaked myself because I didn’t want the pack members to see me walking around the pack.”I turned to look at Mother. “Is that so?”She nodded. “We were together.”“Talking about what?” I asked with a raised brow.“Why don’t you tell us what you were discussing with Axel instead?” she countered. “What do you plan to do without my knowledge? Wait. On a scale of one to ten, how dangerous is it?”“Hundred. Very dangerous,” Axel chimed in.“Let’s hear it,” she wrapped her arms across her chest as she stared at me.“Uhm...” I scratched the back of my neck nervously. My mom would definitely say no to the idea.“I mean, I could te

DAISYThe greatest mistake I made was teleporting Axel and me to the bedroom. We arrived to see a naked Violet lying seductively on the bed.A shrill scream escaped me as I quickly covered my eyes with my palms. Violet also screamed, scrambling to cover herself with the duvet.“I am sorry. I didn’t know you were naked,” I quickly said. “Are you covered now?”“Yes,” she breathed, shock still in her tone.I removed my hands to see her in a cream silk nightdress.“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming to the bedroom straight?” she flicked her gaze at Axel. “After you texted me that she’d be bringing you, I thought...” She slammed her palm over her forehead and let out a frustrated sigh.“You were waiting for him to?” I wiggled my brow playfully.“Daisy!” she groaned, and I chuckled in response.“Stop feeling embarrassed. It’s something I’ve seen countless times while we were roommates in school,” I muttered to lighten the mood as I inched closer to her and wrapped my arms around her.Sh

GIDEONThe meeting was called in the name of my father. Alphas across all thirty-two packs within the kingdom were invited to the meeting. The large conference room within the pack was used. Father, Ethan, and I were seated with all thirty-two Alphas.Alpha King Axel, however, hid in a small room inside the conference room.“Good day, Alphas,” Father began, and they all bowed in respect.“Good day, Alpha King,” their voices chorused.“Thank you for honoring my invitation. As you all know, I will soon be handing over the throne to my son and only heir,” Father said, his gaze sweeping across the Alphas. “I called you here for one final address as the Alpha King of the western region. I do not wish to leave him burdened with unresolved matters. I want him to begin his reign with a clean slate. May his rule be peaceful and prosperous.”“May his rule be peaceful and prosperous,” the Alphas chorused.“Are there any issues with your packs that need our attention?” he asked them. “Or anything
