"Dad, I've told you a hundred times. I don't need a bodyguard." I groaned, flopping down on my bed. My dad was quiet for a while, but I could still sense his presence in my room.
"You know he's only trying to keep you safe." My wolf, Aela, scolded me.
"Arabella." My dad's stern voice called out and I reluctantly sat up and met his silver eyes. I could feel the power of the Alpha King fill my bedroom and I resisted the urge to shudder.
Aela grumbled, "We'll you've done it now."
His Alpha power didn't affect me quite the same, being his daughter had some perks. Nonetheless, I resisted the urge to cringe under his intense gaze.
I sighed, knowing this conversation was going nowhere. "Yes dad?"
"You will behave and let your bodyguard protect you." His commanding voice filled my ears and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
All of the training I had endured wouldn't change his mind. He insisted I was no match for his enemies, not without becoming Queen. He refused to relinquish his title while I was mate-less and had more motivation than ever to assign me an unwanted bodyguard.
"Fine." I snapped, "But you know I'll never behave." I crossed my arms and looked out of my bedroom window, letting my eyes roam the massive garden out back.
My dad gave me a sympathetic smile and sat on the bed, "Arabella, you know this is the last thing I want. We have enemies everywhere. I have to make sure you're safe."
I huffed and kept my gaze trained on the gardens. There was no way I planned on playing nice, not while what little freedom I had was being taken away.
"I can't lose you too Bella." I could hear my dad's empty voice and my heart squeezed. My green eyes met his own as I looked at how broken-hearted he truly was.
I had lost my mother only a year ago, and my father had lost his mate. My dad had an image that he put on for the world to see. A firm and borderline cruel Alpha King who would keep his people safe. Only I and my mother were allowed to see this side of him, the side with feelings.
Unable to hold onto my anger, I frowned at him. "When will he be here?"
I rolled my eyes when my dad's face broke out into a relieved grin, and I couldn't hold back the small smile that played on my lips.
"Tomorrow morning." My dad nodded, giving his phone a quick glance. He hardly had any time these days, with the war going on and the assassinations, he was up to his neck in work.
I sighed, "Very well. Will he be staying in my room as well?" I smirked.
My dad's face turned an interesting shade of red, "Absolutely not." He sputtered, "You'll be moving to one of the adjoining rooms and he will take the other."
"Good. I'd rather see him as little as possible." I huffed, leaning into my dad's outstretched arm.
"Just do me a favor, Bella. Don't leave the grounds today. You can tomorrow, but not without your bodyguard. I'll send the maids up later to move your stuff." I sighed and nodded my head, determined to enjoy these few moments alone with my dad.
As always, they never lasted long.
"I have to go, Bella." My dad sighed, running his fingers through his salt and pepper hair. I looked closely at his face and realized how tired he truly looked after losing Mom. They both had me when they were only twenty years old. I'll be turning eighteen in a month, which made him only thirty seven.
I sighed and wrapped my arms around him tightly, my stomach clenching at the thought of losing him. "Just be safe for me."
"I'm not planning on going anywhere anytime soon. Not when I have you constantly getting into trouble." He smirked, and that familiar twinkle filled his silver eyes.
I scoffed at him, "I'll deal with the bodyguard, but I don't plan on behaving!" I called out as he was leaving my room. I could hear his deep chuckle fading down the hallway.
I pulled myself out of bed and threw on a pair of jeans and an off-shoulder blouse. Everytime I looked in the mirror, I was reminded of my mom. My raven colored hair ran down my back in silky waves, and my curvy body almost mirrored her own. The only thing I got from my father were his luscious eyelashes and his temper.
I pulled out my cell phone and sent my two best friends a quick text. Caroline and Shannon were my two closest friends. Both were the daughters of our cleaning ladies, but that never changed how I felt about them. For the longest time, I was raised alongside them.
They kept me company through the many years of being an only child. Typically, the first born son would take over the position of Alpha or in my case, Alpha King. While my Mom and Dad continued trying for another child, that simply wasn't their fate. My Dad, being the stubborn man he is, declared I would be named Alpha Queen when he resigned. The first Alpha Queen in history.
I glanced down at my phone as the screen lit up. Caroline was out of town visiting family, but Shannon would be waiting for me in the gardens. I sent back a quick message, thankful we were well into the modern world.
Things had changed from the days of brick castles and tiny villages. While our house was the same size as a castle, it was more of a glorified mansion. We still had cooks, maid's and the Royal Guard. The many cities and towns that surrounded our home were all under my Dad's command. He ran the biggest Kingdom in the world, and someday I would do the same.
I spent countless years learning etiquette, training and history. Each lesson had been simple, but I struggled with following the rules of others. Blame it on my Alpha blood or the fact that I'm stubborn, but I often make and follow my own rules.
I skipped from my room and down the main corridor. I dodged maid's and cook's as I ran down the stairs, heading for the garden. My favorite place in the entire house was either the garden or the massive library. My Mom would get lost for hours in the thousands of books we had. Anytime she was missing for too long, my Dad and I would sneak off to the library to find her.
To get to the gardens, I had to walk through the bustling kitchens. The kitchen was easily the size of a restaurant, able to host feasts and gala's at a moment's notice. I ducked under upraised trays of muffins and pastries, letting the seductively sweet aroma fill my nose.
At all hours of the day the kitchen was absolutely hectic. My Mom would have food sent to the less fortunate in town and she always demanded they be fed the same quality of food as us Royals. My Dad kept the rule in place after her death, and each day he made sure the food made it to the less fortunate.
I crept through the kitchen and when I noticed nobody's eyes on me, I let my fingers wrap around a warm chocolate chip muffin.
Just as I was about to bring the warm muffin to my lips I heard my name called, "Arabella, drop that muffin!"
I noticed Shannon's mom, Sheila, coming after me, a dirty rag held up as a weapon. Giving her a sheepish smile, I set the muffin down and took off running through the kitchen.
Sheila had always been a second mom to me, and quickly stepped up to the plate when my real mom had passed. They were close friends, and her death hit her hard. Even as Royal's, my family never looked down on anyone else. We commanded respect due to our Alpha blood, but we never needlessly abused or tormented anyone. I knew some of the other Kingdom's in the world weren't so friendly.
I jogged out the massive patio doors and breathed the fresh air outside. Spring had just begun and I enjoyed every moment. Spring was my favorite season. The flowers in the garden began to bloom with their sweet scents mingling into something exotic and exquisite.
Breathing in the crisp roses and the sweet honeysuckle, I walked down the dirt path to the large gazebo that sat in the center. I could see Shannon's curly hair pop up as she met my eyes.
Shannon was the responsible one in our little group. Caroline had a wild side, like me. Shannon tried, and often failed to keep us in line and out of trouble. While I was a full Lycan, Caroline and Shannon were human. Our territory had a mix of human and lycan, lycan having the higher population. Many human's in our Kingdom were half lycan, but only a handful of them could actually shift.
"Took you long enough." Shannon shook her head, her chocolate curls bouncing with the simple motion. Shannon's skin was the color of fresh espresso, making her honey colored eyes stand out.
I shrugged and plopped down on one of the chairs inside the gazebo, "Dad needed to talk to me."
"Anything important?" Shannon raised her eyebrow at me, her honey colored eyes calculating.
I huffed at her, hating when she looked at me like that. Shannon could be a master interrogator, a single speculative look from her honey eyes would make anyone talk.
We were interrupted by two of the servants coming up the stairs of the gazebo, a metal cart full of food and drinks followed them.
"Oh sorry, I let them know you'd be eating breakfast here." Shannon gave me a smile.
Being constantly waited on was something I still wasn't too comfortable with. I was always looked at with caution, almost fear. No one wanted to get on Dad's bad side, if only they could see him the way I do.
"I appreciate that." I smiled at her, "Eat with me!"
I pushed a plate of scrambled eggs her way, "Take whatever you'd like."
She gave me an appreciative smile and began to eat. I turned to the servants who lugged the food cart up the gazebo stairs.
"Thank you for breakfast. Leave the cart, I'll make sure it's returned." I smiled at the two of them. The servants hated when I did anything on my own. Everyone at the house had worked there for many years, watching me grow up. They knew I appreciated everything they did, but I still felt the need to help where I could.
"So, what did you and the Alpha King talk about?" Shannon frowned, and I could see the worry in her golden orbs.
I sighed, plopping a large strawberry in my mouth. I was missing that chocolate chip muffin. "He's assigning me a personal bodyguard." I grumbled.
"Oh, I'm sure you hate that." Shannon giggled, and I stuck my tongue out at her.
"You know that's the last thing I want." I mumbled.
Shannon giggled again and I gave her a weary look, "What would Caroline say if she were here?"
I thought that over for a moment, "Probably something about making him sleep in the same bed as me, y'know for safety." I snickered.
"Or the potential hotness of your personal bodyguard." Shannon laughed, and I joined in.
Feeling happy and content with the cool Spring breeze caressing my skin, I munched on a piece of sausage. "She'd give a new definition to a personal bodyguard." I giggled.
After finishing breakfast we walked the grounds of the garden. Shannon loved the garden as much as I did. The two of us waved at the gardeners who were working today.
I trailed my fingers over the soft petal's of a vibrant tulip and down the rough stem of a couple sunflowers.
"Arabella, could you come here for a moment? I'm in the library." My uncle's voice flooded through my head.
I nodded, then remembered he couldn't see it. "I'll be there shortly, uncle."
"I've got to go." I sighed, "Uncle's calling me."
Shannon nodded in understanding, "I'll make sure the cart gets back to the kitchen."
"Thank you." I smiled at her. Giving her a quick peck on the cheek, I ran from the garden and back to the house.
As a child, I often got lost roaming the halls. In my spare time I would explore and make maps of the building, pretending each room held some amazing secret. The library, with it's dark oak doors, held a world full of mermaids and mythical creatures. As I grew older, my imagination faded. My awareness left imagination behind and began to see the horrors of the world.
I shoved the library door's open with ease, my eyes settling on my Uncle Jaspar. He was hunched over a large and rather dusty book.
"Ah, there you are." His head shot up, and his silver eyes met my green ones. Everyone on my father's side had silver eyes. As everyone so often reminded me, I was the spitting image of my mother.
I smirked at him, "You called?"
Jaspar is my Dad's much younger brother. They are ten years apart, making Uncle Jaspar only twenty eight. He looked much like what my Dad did when he was younger, and plagued with less stress. Jaspar's curly brown hair sat short on his head, framed with full eyebrows and long eyelashes. Every male in my dad's family was built like giant's. It was typical for Lycan's to be muscular, but Dad and Uncle Jaspar were ginormous.
"I heard about your father's plans for you." Uncle Jaspar gave me a sympathetic smile. He always seemed to understand how I felt about things, even if he agreed with Dad most of the time.
I rolled my eyes, "Guess all that training was for nothing."
Uncle Jaspar had a small smile on his face, "All that training will be useful if someone slips past your bodyguard. You should never hope to put your training to use, Arabella." I sighed, the stern look on his face resembled Dad's.
"I know, I know. I just hate having someone follow me no matter where I go." I grumbled, sitting down on one of the soft couches scattered throughout the library.
Uncle Jaspar smiled, "You're the heir to the entire Kingdom, Arabella and you're his daughter. You can't blame him for taking every precaution."
"You're right, I can't. But that doesn't mean I'm happy about it." I raised my eyebrow at him.
He chuckled, "I would expect nothing less. You're too much like your mother." He shook his head as if he were thinking of a fond memory. My heart squeezed every time someone mentioned how similar I was to my Mom. She was one of my best friends.
"Has your father told you who would be guarding you?" Uncle Jaspar's question caught me off guard.
I frowned, "No? He hasn't said anything. I just assumed it would be some warrior." I shrugged.
"Knowing your father, he's not going to choose just any warrior." Uncle Jaspar shrugged, but it felt forced.
I pushed my suspicious thoughts to the side, chalking it up to irritation. "Dad would get me a personal army if he could." I rolled my eyes.
"You are right about that." Uncle Jaspar chuckled.
After leaving the library, I had tried to track Shannon down. I held back a groan as Sheila told me she had left for work. Shannon worked at a local coffee shop in town and would often bring me back iced mocha or other sweets.
Things in the house were slowly getting more and more boring as the hours passed. I wanted to make the most of my day, knowing I would have an aggressive shadow following me everywhere tomorrow.
Around 6 p.m. one of the maid's showed me to my new bedroom. I glared at the large door on the far wall, knowing my bodyguard would be just a few feet away. My new suite provided some extra room, giving me the illusion of privacy.
I flopped down on my bed and listened to music, and when that finally got boring I shuffled into the bathroom. Over the years the house had been through substantial remodeling, and my favorite part of it were the bathrooms.
Each bathroom had a walk in shower, and a bathtub big enough to be a pool. I turned the hot water on and watched the tub begin to fill. I pulled out some vanilla bubble bath and stifled a grin as I dumped the entire bottle in.
I relaxed in the bath until the hot water turned cold and my fingers resembled prunes. Feeling much more calm about tomorrow, I curled into the warm bed and drifted off to sleep.

I would just like to clarify that in this novel, mates are discovered at 18 years or older. They are also discovered by touch instead of scent. Also, if you enjoy these few chapters remember to Vote and Comment!
I woke early in the morning. The sun had yet to fully rise, but I couldn't bring myself to fall back asleep. My sleep was plagued with nightmares, always surrounding my Mom. The startled look in her eyes as one of the rogues threatened to pounce on me. The scream that tore through her throat as she shifted and saved my life. And finally, the light that left her eyes when the rogue tore out her throat, her black fur slick with fresh blood. My Dad hadn't seen the moment her last breath escaped from her lungs. He was fighting off three rogues at once, fighting to keep us all safe.I watched the light leave her eyes, and I was almost positive I could feel when her soul had finally left her body accompanied by her wolf, her closest companion. The loss tore a hole straight through me, the ache was a constant reminder that she was gone. She had died trying to save me.I pulled myself from the plush bed and slipped on a robe as I headed to the bathroom. The chill in the ai
I refused to let Viktor interrupt my daily routines, one of which included sneaking through the kitchen to steal one of Sheila's famous muffins. I was almost a hundred percent sure that Sheila and Shannon we're witches in their past life, because it was nearly impossible to get anything past them. That just made my antics even more fun.I crept into the busy kitchen, instantly noticing that Sheila was busy ordering some of the other cooks around. I smiled to myself, she was definitely distracted.I crept up to the counter where a plate of her muffins sat steaming. An audible groan left my lips as I turned to see Viktor sticking out like a sore thumb."Do you not know how to be stealthy?" I groaned at him, my eyes keeping track of Sheila. In a move that surprised me, his dark eyebrow lifted and his obsidian gaze remained locked on me.I glanced at Sheila, and figured this would be my only chance. I snatched up one of the muffins and shot a glare at
I set my plan into motion that night, determined to provoke any form of reaction I could from VIktor. While I wasn't necessarily the most attractive girl in the world, I had some things working in my favor. My raven colored hair cascaded down my back in waves, while my green eyes stood out against the contrast of my porcelain skin. I had nice curves and a full chest at my disposal.I grabbed a pair of panties and a tanktop and slipped my clothes off as I headed to the bathroom. I quickly turned the shower on and waited impatiently for the hot water. A sigh escaped my lips as the hot water soothed my sore muscles.I took my time in the shower, letting the hot water wash away my stress as much as it could.Stepping out of the shower, I wrapped one of the towels around my body. I missed the shower mat with my foot and slid forward. A yelp of surprise came from my lips as I knocked into the sink. The glass cup on the edge fell to the floor and shattered."S
I woke up that morning, feeling the best I had in quite some time. The nightmares didn't torment me tonight and I was shocked when I had actually slept in until 11 a.mSitting up, I stretched and wiped the fogginess from my eyes. I slid off of the bed and nearly screamed when my eyes met Viktor's .He was sitting on the couch, his elbow on the arm resting as his eyes were locked on my own. How long had he been here and did he really watch me sleep?I completely forgot that I was in nothing but a thin tanktop and a pair of lace panties, but I didn't feel self-conscious. I certainly should have, after all he was a man while I still felt like a girl."That eager to take another look?" I smirked and crossed my arms over my chest. The butterflies bounced around in my stomach at the sight of him.He was back to wearing his formal long sleeve shirt, black slacks, leather gloves, and a black mask over the lower half of his face. I could feel myself grow more ir
I made the trek from the gazebo to my Uncle's office. Over the years, I slowly memorized the entire house and all of it's maze-like corridors. As a child, I would often sneak to my Uncle or Dad's office to listen in on some of the meetings they had. While I couldn't understand most of their conversations, it made me feel like a spy.I knocked a couple times on the large oak door and waited. After a few moment's it swung open and someone stepped out. A strange looking man with an even stranger expression on his face."Princess Arabella." The man nodded, and I looked at him curiously. His light blue eyes trailed over my face slowly, and I felt like an exhibit on display. There was something in his gaze that made me uncomfortable. He had light colored hair that swooped over his head in a single directon. His matching colored beard hung down to his adam's apple. I couldn't recall ever meeting him before."Hello, sir." I nodded my head and gave him a small s
The rest of the evening went horrifically slow. My Uncle's words replayed in my head on a constant loop along with Viktor's two powerful words."Fuck power." His deep and rough voice combatted my Uncle's words with fury.I found it strange for someone like him to say "fuck power". Someone so huge and much faster than a normal Lycan. He seemed to be swimming in power."Shouldn't we put ourselves first for a change?" Aela frowned.I sighed, wishing it were that simple. "Aela, we're going to have an entire Kingdom to look after. Sometimes it's much bigger than that.""It's not as hard as you're making it out to be. Our mate was paired with us for a reason, they'll help us." Aela was confident."If we ever meet him." I sighed.I could only imagine how Aela was feeling. Humans and wolves were vastly different when it came to dealing with things. Being the daughter of the Alpha King, Aela's instincts are to protect her
I spent the rest of the day lounging about, horrifically bored. I gave Viktor a break with the teasing, fully planning on resuming once I dressed for the party.I wasn't dressing to impress anyone else, just Viktor. I wanted to see if he could keep his emotionless gaze when he saw what I was planning to wear.Caroline knocked on my bedroom door around 8:30 p.m. Viktor stepped inside my room as Caroline entered and leaned against the wall."Um, is he going to stay in here?" Caroline glanced at me, a confused look on her face.I chuckled and shook my head, "As long as you're here, he is.""I'm no threat to Arabella, but you on the other hand." Caroline smirked at Viktor, whose gaze was solely focused on me.I rolled my eyes. Once we got to the party she'd set her sights on some other poor victim and leave my bodyguard alone. "Come on Caroline, pick out a dress."We walked into the giant walk-in closet I rarely used and I pulled my dress
My stomach dropped when each of the men came forward, and I could see the gleam of gunmetal in their hands.I felt like time slowed just for a moment and I wondered what my Dad was doing. I wondered what he would think when I never came home that night.A small scream left my lips when the backdoor to the club slammed open with a loud bang. The metal door crashed against the bricks of the building at the force.Viktor ran out of the club, his golden eyes searching his surroundings rapidly."Just in time." Aela sounded relieved. He locked eyes with me and the aura radiating from him made me shrink closer to the chain link fence. He was beyond furious."That's not normal." Aela was stunned, even she could feel the power rolling from him.He leaped forward and grabbed me by the wrist, his leather gloves scorched my ice cold skin. I stumbled as he yanked me behind him and faced the men coming our way.I was sure they
One Month LaterI stood in front of my floor length mirror, my eyes narrowing suspiciously at the dress that flowed down my body. A nearly endless sea of deep green silk rolled down my body, my hair rippled down my back in dark waves. Dad wanted to call the stylists for today’s events, but I refused. My stomach was a cocoon of nerves and knots. The last thing I wanted was a team of people fluttering around me. I had Shannon do my make-up, her steady hands putting my eyeliner on effortlessly.“The dress looks amazing.” Shannon nodded, giving it a long look as I stood in front of the mirror.“You’re only saying that because you picked it out.” I chuckled, giving her a playful eyeroll.“And I did a damn good job.” Shannon huffed, fixing the straps of her own dress.A wave of calming energy washed over me as Viktor stepped out of the bathroom. His chocolate hair was tousled, begging to have
Two Days LaterNikolai Aslanov had been true to his word. Even though I knew he was responsible for the attack at my Birthday Gala, he found evidence against Elena Halifax. This evidence cleared Viktor’s name, letting him finally come back to me.I was unsure why Nikolai wanted to give Viktor and I a chance, but I didn’t argue with it. It was clear Nikolai expected Viktor and I to fail, hoping I would come to him after the fact. Nikolai Aslanov wanted a chance with me, yet he had a funny way of showing it. Trying to have me killed on my birthday wasn’t the best gesture.Viktor was able to return with August in two days. Viktor had turned around the minute I gave the news. He was naturally suspicious of Nikolai Aslanov’s motives, not that I could blame him. I could feel Viktor’s jealousy for his younger brother as I told him that Nikolai wanted a chance with me. I told Viktor what Nikolai had told me, that they were brothers. I asked
“I never told you about that.” I scoffed, “How did you know?”Caroline’s eyes widened, her lips fumbling over words. She knew she had been caught, with what I was unsure of. Everything ran much deeper than I had anticipated.I felt like a child, trying to play a game clearly designed for adults. Just when I thought I was finally gaining the upper hand, something happened. A new twist was thrown into the mix.Instead of backtracking, Caroline’s face contorted in anger. Any friendliness or companionship had faded from her face. Her light eyes were dull and lacked warmth, her lips turned up in a sneer.“Princess Arabella.” Caroline sneered, flipping her hair behind her shoulder. “Born the luckiest girl alive and doesn’t even know it.”“I don’t see what that has to do with anything, Caroline.” My voice conveyed the confusion and hurt I felt. Caroline looked nothing like
“Big brother?” My jaw dropped. The mask I had precariously placed on my face was shattered, long forgotten. I couldn’t tell if Nikolai was lying or not. There wasn’t an ounce of deceit on his face, nor was there any other emotion.“It seems you know little about your mate.” Nikolai shook his head regretfully, “What a shame. If you were mine, nothing would be kept from you. You would never be left in the dark.”“If Viktor’s your brother, why isn’t he in line for the throne?” My eyes narrowed at Nikolai, ignoring his last comment.“Viktor—as you know him by, hate’s being in charge of others.” Nikolai smiled grimly, “Viktor’s skill is ending lives. He never possessed the tasks necessary to rule.”“There are plenty of Royal’s skilled at ending lives.” I murmured; my eyes locked on Nikolai’s. “They use others to do the
“What a special human you must be.” Nikolai Aslanov gave Shannon a friendly grin, one I could tell was fake. Shannon must have been able to tell too, as her eyes hardened at his words. “Is the Halifax family not attending dinner? I was under the impression they were residing here for the time being, same goes for the other young Royal.”“Erik.” I pointed out, pressing my lips together gently.“Yes, Erik.” Nikolai smiled at me, as though the two of us were old friends.“Geoff and Elena Halifax are in mourning.” Dad grunted; his voice laced with sympathy. “Their son recently passed.”“Is that so?” Nikolai’s eyes widened in false surprise; his voice laced with the emotion. He was an expert alright, yet I could still see the curiosity in his gaze. “And how did that happen in a house with the Alpha King?”“He took his own life.” I pressed my
Arabella’s P.o.vI let Viktor’s voice lull me to sleep, staying connected to him until the darkness had taken me over.‘Goodnight, little Princess.’ Viktor murmured, the last thing I heard before sleep claimed me.I shot up in bed as my Dad’s voice flooded through my mind.‘Bella, are you awake?’ Dad’s voice rang out.‘I am now.’ I grumbled, wiping the sleep from my eyes. Shannon was still curled up on the couch, only her mess of curls visible from underneath the blanket.‘Geoff Halifax has decided to hold a funeral pyre for his son.’ My Dad informed me, ‘This should be easy enough to complete. We will be holding it tomorrow night. The Royal’s will stay leave after its completion.’‘And are we prepared for our dinner tonight.’ I winced at the harsh light streaming through my curtains.‘Everything is prepared.’ Dad n
Viktor’s P.o.vThe mark on my neck stung against the itchy fabric of my shirt. The pain reminded me that what happened wasn’t born from my imagination.I could have never anticipated someone like Princess Arabella, or her decision to accept me. Guilt swirled in my stomach, an emotion I had experienced little. The small Princess was making me feel things I had only heard about, but never experienced.I felt true fear for the first time in her presence. Fear had been a distant memory, present in the mind of child-like Viktor. My name had been different back then, but I had also been a different person. Fear was a constant companion as a child, but it was beaten and torn from my body until nothing remained. I had felt fear in its rawest forms at the Princess’s Birthday Gala. Her life had been hanging by a thread, threatened in her need to save my life. She knew nothing of my past, nothing of the things I’ve done and yet she still acce
I wasn’t surprised that Elena couldn’t smell my change in scent when she walked into my bedroom. My room had smelled like Viktor ever since he left. The smell had begun to fade, its intensity rising as I used Viktor’s body wash in my baths. My Dad had called everyone into the living room, Shannon and I included. Each Royal was present followed by, Uncle Jaspar, Dad, Shannon and me.Bryton Duboi gave me a hard look, one that held just a fraction of sympathy. Geoff Halifax looked haunted, like a Father who had lost his only son. Elena was playing the part of grieving Mother, not daring to show her real face in front of my Dad. Even Annalise Halifax had her own mask of sadness, though not nearly as convincing as her Mother. My heart hammered in my chest. I stood off to the side with Shannon, hoping my scent wouldn’t waft around the room. There were already many scents lingering to begin with, hopefully masking my own for the time being.
The decision I made hit me like a ton of bricks once Viktor and I were finished. I had thrown another kink into our plans, but I couldn’t bring myself to regret anything.Viktor and I were mates, why shouldn’t I complete the process with him? I refused to let Uncle Jaspar, Nikolai Aslanov or anyone else scare me away from being with my mate. Sooner or later the truth would have surfaced. Those who knew my scent would be able to smell I had completed the mating process. Only those familiar with Viktor’s scent would know who my mate was.“Little Princess.” Viktor frowned; his dark eyes were burning into my face.I realized I had gone silent, lost in my own thoughts as I slipped the clothes onto my body. The mate bond between Viktor and I was much stronger now. I couldn’t hear his thoughts or see his memories, but I picked up more emotion from him than I had in the past.Viktor was worried, worried I regrette
