Chapter 66

Jesse arrived at the grand chamber where the ten elders of the Revolutionary sat. He lowered his head and stood before them, feeling ashamed and defeated. They were the most powerful group of witches in the world, feared and revered by all, and he had failed them. The air was thick with tension and Jesse could feel their eyes piercing through him.

"So, you have returned," said the eldest of the ten. His voice was deep and commanding, and Jesse could feel its weight on his shoulders.

"I have," Jesse replied, keeping his voice low and respectful.

"You failed us, Jesse," the elder continued. "We entrusted you with a simple task and you were unable to complete it."

Jesse hung his head, knowing that he had let them down. He had been so sure of his abilities, so confident that he could defeat Rosella and Julian, but he had been wrong.

"You have brought shame upon yourself and upon our group," the elder said. "And for that, you must be punished."
