I have this bad habit that, when I am trying to look for answers, I have a tendency to take certain risks. My father always tells me that I should change this specific behavior of mine because it could one day get me killed. Of course, I listen, but the matter of following through is a different matter. Sneaking out late at night from human territory is easier than I thought. The security isn’t lacking, but when I am in my wolf form, I am just fast enough to get through the blind spots of the night guards. Upon my arrival in the forest, I begin my search. I use my nose to help me catch the scent of the black wolf. I barely remember what the wolf smells like, so I am just blindly sniffing the area in hopes of catching a familiar scent. Since the last time that I saw the wolf was in the orc’s cave, I decided to head there. The night is cold, but with my fur covering my body, I should feel fine, but for some reason I am shivering. I doubt that it is because of the cold. The area s
“What’s with the long sigh, princess? Did you not get enough sleep?” I turn to Duncan, the one guy who is still persistent in making his presence known to me every chance that he gets. I had been sitting in the cafeteria and staring at my food for who knows how long until he called my attention. Normally, I wouldn’t have minded because I have gotten used to him, but right now, it just annoys me. I still try to be civil and keep my temper in check. “Hey, Duncan. Where are the others?” I ask while trying my best to smile pleasantly at him. “Oh, the others? They’re still getting lunch.” He points to where the others are lining up with their trays, just like the other students. Duncan starts to sit across from me while I pretend to eat the burger on my plate. Duncan wasn’t wrong that I didn’t get enough sleep. I really didn’t. When Midnight, the mysterious black wolf left, I secretly tried to follow him. Not exactly follow him, like tailing him from behind, but by trying to track his
The atmosphere around us is as awkward as it gets. Even though Maxwell is the main attraction, I can feel some eyes on me after he addressed me by name. “Hey, mutt. Didn’t I say not to cause a scene or I will drag you back into your cage?” Ajax’s piercing gaze is enough to make the other onlookers divert their attention, but the one receiving that gaze just seems to be pretty relaxed. Max rolls his eyes. He turns to Ajax without even a hint of fear in his demeanor. “Has anyone told you that you are a mood killer? It’s not my fault that I am grabbing attention.” A cocky smirk spreads on his lips. “I was blessed by the moon goddess with a handsome face.” “I wish the goddess gave you some common sense to figure out that the reason everyone is staring at you is because you are a mongrel amongst humans.” Ajax says it with so much spite that even when I knew that he wasn’t talking to me, I was still offended. I turn to the others in the room only to find that they are looking at Maxwell
“What about the lycans?” I decided to push past my nervousness and ask for more information about the topic. Who knows? Maybe I am just overthinking things. If they were suspective something, they wouldn’t be sitting before mein such a relaxed manner. “I don’t know if you heard of this, but lately, the lycans have been seen lurking around our borders more so than usual.” Lizzen informs me as her eyes briefly dart towards where Max is sitting. “We believe that it has something to do with him being the son of the lycan and all.” “I-I see. So that’s the reason.” My words has cause Lizzen to turn toward me with curious gaze. “Strange. You’re not surprised about this. Did you know that he’s the son of the lycan alpha?” Ah shit. I was so relieved when they did not suspect me of being one of the lycans that I forgot to act accordingly to the situation. “That’s because I saw him back when I was living in the woods. I also…fought him when I was saving Holly.” I was impressed with mysel
The first time that they asked me about working with Max, all I wanted to do was run away because doing that would mean that I had to go back to the pack. It’s not like I don’t like the pack. It’s just what the idea of going back after running away will be like. Back in the pack, all I have for them is my title and my father. As their beta, the alpha still has mysterious control over me, so it would hurt me more to disobey him. Ajax, Indigo, Max, and I are all in a car the next day. Ajax and Indigo are going to take us out of the gate and serve as lookouts. Max will go out and talk to the Lycans while I remain by his side to serve as his escort. Of course, I doubt that the hunters would have allowed me to go along with Max if they knew that I am a lycan in the first place. “Are you nervous, Belle?” Inside the car, our seats are facing each other. Max and I are sitting on one side, while Ajax and Indigo are seated opposite of ours. Indigo is the one who asks the question out of con
When Max proclaimed that he was going to stay with the humans for a little longer, it didn’t faze me to see that Ajax would be the first one to oppose the idea. Indigo and Lizzen, though, are seemingly considering Max’s proposal. Max proposed that as long as he remains behind the walls, the pack would no longer attack the humans. In return, Max would like to live and check to see if he can coexist with the humans. For humans, the offer sounds like a chance of investment for coexistence between the two races, but for me, I know that it is just a farce so that he can keep an eye on me. Since Max is making it clear that he is physically and emotionally attached to me, Indigo and Lizzen figured that it would be better if I were to watch over him in the academy. If only I am completely on Max’s side, it would be a lost for the humans because I can easily betray them. Fortunately, I am neither a lycan nor a human so I am on the neutral side. Of course, no one knows of this other than
How I manage to sneak off while trying to keep the bandage on my hands clean is news to me. Since I cannot use my hands, I am stuck escaping using my human form. It’s pretty hard to be stealthy with how slow I am running on two legs. It’s a good thing that I decided to run off early, which allows me to reach the meeting point with Midnight. I feel cold and exposed because I am in my human form out here in the woods, not to mention that my hands are still healing. Since the blade that cut it is made of a special metal forged by hunters, it is taking a while for it to heal. It’s such bad timing, really. ‘Are you trying to get caught by coming here in your human form?’ The black wolf that I’ve been waiting to see for the past few days showed itself behind one of the trees. I knew that he was massive, but I never actually knew how massive. Even when I am standing on two feet, he is almost as tall as me. ‘Wait, no…’ He starts to move closer, bringing his nose close to my right hand. ‘Y
It’s not in question that I am in a good mood. Even though I am basically stuck in my room under the pretense that I am recovering from my wounds, I still can’t help but hum to myself. My wolf is happy, and so am I. I can’t wait until I meet Midnight again. I wonder what kind of lessons he is going to teach me. My moment of peace is broken when I hear a knock on my door. So much for my moment of silence. I headed for the door and unlocked it, only to find Ajax on the other side. “Your hand.” He simply states this while carrying a medicine box on hand. I have no idea what he means by mentioning my hand, so I just raise my bandaged hand for him to see. Ajax shakes his head. “That’s not what I mean. I just…I just mean that it is time for me to change your bandage.” “Change it? That’s kinda…” I start to hesitate, already knowing the state that my hand is in. I don’t want him to see that my wound has already healed at a rate faster than a human. “The bandage is fine.” I say stubbornl
