The party was at a restaurant that we used to go to when we were students. It was very lively.

My friends must have gotten there early to put on their best act of judging my potential husband.

Darrian bought some flowers on the way and handed them to my friends. He pretended to be cool, but a slight blush on his ears betrayed his nervousness.

I sat next to him and whispered. "What are you nervous about? You've already met my mom."

He whispered back. "I'm not nervous. I just feel like I'm betraying my bachelor buddies by skipping dinner with them and having dinner with so many girls."

I rolled my eyes, seeing through his fake bravado. "Darrian, you're the only one here with a stiff smile."

Darrian had to avoid alcohol after work in case of an emergency. He told everyone why and they were cool with it. He had a good time talking to them honestly without drinking.
