Caterina POV
"The Heart of the Sea,
Trapped in time,
I'll sing you back to me,
Love of mine..."
I see you, Sailor. Your endless search for me. That is perhaps the cruellest part of her curse. She allows me to watch you... want you. So close, yet just beyond reach. Our tether pulls me wherever you go but her curse holds me under. Never allowed to breach the surface.
You've become more determined these last three months. I wonder, have the visions started for you too? Our time together was so brief. Three days was all we had, yet that was enough for our souls to be bound for life. I remember the look of curiosity and wonder on your face as I explained our connection. You believed every word, you had no choice, you could feel it.
"So, you're saying I've been wandering around my whole life, missing half of my soul?"
"What I'm saying, Sailor is that everyone's soul is but half of what it would be when it becomes tethered to another. Have you never felt a pull? Toward something that might fill an inner emptiness?"
"Call me Finn... And yes, now that you mention it. That is exactly how it feels, well, felt. I don't feel that anymore..." I wouldn't call you Finn. It was a boyish name. You were my Sailor, so that is what I called you. Without another word, the glance we shared showed that we both knew what we were to each other.
The way my power surged in your presence told me very quickly that you were not human. Or rather, a mortal life was not your destiny. I never had the chance to tell you of your potential. Now you sail the sea, forever the Captain of the lost ship on the horizon, because of me.
She could feel my power growing in that short time. She knew that once we had fully come together, she would no longer be able to contain me. My power would be too vast and I would finally be ready to claim the throne. The heart would become the head. I would bear the weight of the crown with my soulmate by my side. Your destiny too, being realised with the union of our souls.
"Below the surface,
Lie the answers you seek,
Turn your stare to the water,
Call on your soul to see..."
I watch in agony as you look toward the distant sunrise. The soft morning light gently caressing your handsome, weathered features. The breeze pushes your unkempt, ebony curls from your face and I see the hope flash in your ocean eyes. I lie in wait, willing with all my might that you will look down, that you might see...
The sun peeks its head over the horizon and I see the pain and disappointment cross over your face. Our brief window has closed for yet another day. Where to now, Sailor? If only you knew the place did not matter. That I am here for every dawn, you just need to know where to look.
"Still following your human to the ends of the Earth, Caterina?"
"You know as well as I, Mother, he is no human." The sound of her voice was enough to send me spiralling into a rage.
"He will return to me, and when he does, I hope you know how far to run..."
"Ha. Foolish Girl. He will not return to you. Are you truly that naive to believe your tether is enough? It's been 7 years, and he's not once thought to look below the surface..."
"You cannot keep us apart forever, you are not that powerful..."
"I don't have to keep you apart forever. Just long enough for his mortality to claim him."
I couldn't help it, I sent a surge of power toward her. My rage fuelling me. It was a risky move, I kept my powers suppressed to keep you safe. When the heart of the Sea was angry, the Sea herself was angry. But my mother was right. I could follow you forever but until we are truly one, your life is as mortal as any other human. It was a truth too painful to consider.
"Care-ful...Cat-er-ina... his ship... won't... with-stand... much... more..." She managed to choke out under my crushing grip. I reigned in my power before my anger forced the waves above to claim the ship you used so tirelessly to search for me.
What had I done? I could've killed you. It would have killed me too... She knew it, she just didn't anticipate her death might prelude both, so she had to stop me. She had underestimated my strength, I realised. My powers were still growing... I hadn't considered that I might continue to become more powerful merely being near you. Neither, evidently, did she.
I turned to face her but she was already gone. I doubted she would be back. She was smart, that I would give her. She won't play with fire like that again. If I kill her, we will both be free.
Now, Sailor, I find myself at a crossroads. Do I abandon you in pursuit of vengeance? Or do I remain, faithfully waiting, hoping, you might look below the surface? What if you should look, only for me to have gone? No, Sailor. I will wait. When we are finally together, she will pay for what she has done...
"The Heart of the Sea,

Love of mine...

Finn POV As I turned from the horizon to prepare for the day, the sky darkened impossibly fast. The waves began to rise and crash over us. It had been months, possibly longer, since we faced a storm. The sea had been eerily kind to us on our voyage. The crew began to panic, they were out of practice and none of us saw this one coming from the clear morning we just witnessed. “Anchor’s aweigh Cap’n!” Thank god for Cyrell, at least one of us was thinking. “Excellent work Cyrell! Let’s see what the old girl can do!” I grabbed the helm and faced the menacing storm head on. Another day’s disappointment had me feeling reckless. We worked tirelessly for what must have only been minutes as we were thrashed about the ocean be the ferocious waves. Thunder and lightning crashed overhead as the sky pelted us with heavy rain. The wind was unbearable and made the rain feel like razors as it made contact with my bare ski
Caterina POV You were staring right at me. Why could you not have done this at dawn, Sailor? Then you would have seen. You would have seen me, where I have waited for you for all these years. The curse would be lifted and we would be reunited. What is the use of my power if I can’t break a simple curse? I would move the earth itself to be able to breach the surface and make myself known to you. I would give anything to have some way of telling you that I am right here… I closed my eyes and began to sing, blindly hoping that the power of my Siren song would break through the barrier and reach you. "The Heart of the Sea, Trapped in time, I'll sing you back to me, Love of mine... Below the surface, Lie the answers you seek, Turn your stare to the water, Call on your soul to see...
Caterina POV (present)“Your grace, welcome back…”“Cyrell, my old friend, it is so wonderful to see you.”Cyrell was my guardian. He had been the closest thing to a Father I had ever known since she murdered my true Father. He had not hesitated when I asked him to leave the Sea and act as Finn’s protector all those years ago. If only I had known he would not be able to return to me either, I was unable to tell him how to break the curse.I didn’t miss the look of shock on Finn’s face as his first mate bowed to me before embracing me in a fatherly hug.“My love, Cyrell was sent by me to protect you after the curse was placed on us. He is a very old, very dear friend of mine.”“You didn’t think to tell me, old man?” Finn asked Cyrell impatiently.&ldquo
Finn POVI pulled myself away from Caterina and looked down at my hands in astonishment. My skin was… Iridescent. The same sheen that you find on fish scales. Suddenly I felt like I couldn’t breathe, the room feeling crushingly small, as though walls were closing in on me.Without hesitation, she grabbed me and hurled us both through the glass of the small window and into the depths below. As soon as we were submerged, my lungs felt full once again. I could breathe…. But how?“Well, Sailor, that was unexpected….”I looked up to find Caterina floating a few feet from me, smirking.“I knew you were a child of the sea, but this, this I did not see coming”“See what coming? Caterina, what’s going on?”She floated close to me and gave me a reassuring kiss

This was one of his powers I realised, he could command the creatures of the sea. A common trait amongst the Mer of old, and would be a valuable tool in our inevitable battle against her.He didn’t know it yet, but soon we would commence the hunt. I had to ensure he understood his abilities first. But we needed to move with haste. The further she fled, the harder she would be to track.“So, what can you do?” He appeared before me so quickly I was startled. His movements in the water were almost untraceable.“What do you mean what can I do?” I quipped.“You know, what are your… abilities?”“I am a Siren an
Finn POVHer words quickly brought me back to reality. I had been in a trance, consumed by the act of our bodies and power feeding from one another. I could feel her strength increasing with each movement which only spurred me on. Neither of us realised the effect we were having on the water….The ship was caught in rough seas, with a spellbound crew unable to fight for her. She was right, we had to get off the ship and we had to get far away if we wanted the ship and the men to survive.I used all my strength to carry us from my chamber to the deck and wasted no time in tossing us into the waves assaulting the vessel. Caterina POVAfter the murder of my Father, I had sworn I would not return here. There are few things that can kill a god. Less than a few. For the Sea Witch to have succeeded, she needed an accomplice. Someone powerful, with ancient knowledge. My Father’s list of enemies was long, but it is an act of war to murder a God. Caterina POV“Até, I wish I could say it was good to see you, but we both know that would be a lie…”“Oh Caterina, you wound me. Is that any way to greet your favourite cousin?”Até is the goddess of mischief, and my cousin. Technically, all the gods and goddesses are. All daughters of Poseidon are Sirens, and we all trained under Até. She is a master of leading men, both mortal and immortal down the path to ruin. She is beautiful and dangerous. Not someone I was hoping for us to encounter here.“And who is this?” she purred, running her delicate finger down Finn’s chest before biting it between her teeth. I had seen her look at men in this way thousands of times, but the rage I felt at her looking at Finn that way felt like an inferno beneath my skin.“Caterina’s tethered mate. And I suggest to kee
Finn POVI’m not sure how I knew what to do. I was running on instinct when I grabbed Caterina and redirected that wave of power at myself. Somehow, I knew I would be able to absorb it.I glanced over at the pool to see several shocked faces looking our way. Caterina’s sister was on the ground, desperately trying to catch her breath after her near-death experience. Served her right, I thought. She showed complete disregard toward the fact that I was her sister’s tethered-mate. As though I could be tempted by her Siren ways, when I was bonded to another. The only thing that tempted me was watching Caterina wield her power. She had drawn the energy from the pool in the same way she is able to from the sea. She was fierce, and I was more than aroused by the fact that her rage was fuelled by her devotion to me.“Are you alright, love?”I tilted her chin
