“Where are we going?” asked Skylar as he helped her to Lillian’s car. There was excitement in their hearts as both were bursting to connect with one another. The vows and the confession had unleashed a newfound energy between them.

“Somewhere special!” He smiled as he climbed into the driver’s seat. It felt like she was a truant high schooler eloping with her lover! The sparkle in his eyes was enough to express his excitement.

“I can’t wait to check out the special place.” Their eyes met and he winked, promising more than she could ever imagine. Skylar blushed and looked away while he drove out of the hotel with a skew little smile on his face. He was glad she knew about his feelings for her at last. Tonight he would express them in words. He would tell her how much he loved her, always did, and always would!

Soon he sped away towards Geneva-on-the-lake, a small picturesque town an hour’s drive away from Cleveland, along the southern shore of Lake Erie.

“Is it a hotel?” she asked

Skylar lay on the hospital bed worrying about Christian. He was critically injured after the fall while trying to save her life. They rushed him to the OT without informing her about his condition. Skylar was restless and kept asking the nurse after Christian. She was so traumatized the nurse refused to divulge any information about him. “Have you informed your family, Mrs. St. James?” Skylar nodded as tears pricked in her eyes. “Yes, I have. They should be here any minute. Is my husband critical? Please, can I see him?” “He’s still in the OT. When they shift him to a room, you can meet him.” The door opened and Caleb and Lillian came in, followed by her grandpa and grandpa Ben. “Skye, how are you?” asked her Lillian, with tears in her eyes. Even Caleb couldn’t stop himself from breaking down at the sight of his little sister. “I’m fine, Lillian. Christian saved me. Please take me to him. He’s critical!” she wept brokenly, trying to get up. “The operation was successful. They’re

The next morning Christian gained consciousness, but the pain all over his body was killing him. The doctor increased the dose of the painkillers to relieve him. He fell asleep again, unaware of what lay ahead of him. Skylar stayed with him in case he woke up again. She was dreading the moment he would realize his condition. She would have to give him hope. The pain was unbearable, and he had hardly acknowledged her presence when he woke up earlier. This time, when he woke up, she would be ready. At least they both were alive and with one another! At least Steele wasn’t successful in his mission. He couldn’t take their lives. Two hours later, Christian opened his groggy eyes and looked all around him. Was he alive? He remembered the excruciating pain in his body as if he was dying. He remembered the accident vividly. It relieved him to know he had saved his Skylar from the jaws of death. Where was she? Had she left him here? He focused his bleary eyes on the nurse tending to him. “

Christian fell asleep as the amount of painkillers started taking a toll on him. Unknown to him, Skylar checked him three times while he was asleep. She spent her time in the lobby outside his room but couldn’t go home leaving him here. His behavior hurt her tremendously, but she swallowed the pain and didn’t let it get to her. Grandpa Ben tried to convince her to go home, but she was adamant. She would return with Christian. It was evening when Christian woke up. The doctor arrived to check him up and so did his family. Skylar didn’t enter his room for fear of aggravating his condition. Despite throwing her out of his room, Christian’s eyes searched for her. It seemed she had really left. “Your pressure figures aren’t good, Mr. St. James. If you don’t rest adequately, the compartment syndrome will recur. This time another surgery will lead to permanent paralysis,” scolded Dr. Foster. “I’m sorry, doctor. The news derailed me a little. Henceforth, I’ll try to keep calm.” “Good! We

Christian sat shocked by the news. He hadn’t expected this at all! He had to find out. So, he called Lillian, but she didn’t accept his call. Neither did Sebastian. The rest of the day, he kept worrying about Skylar. What could have happened to her? Guilt ate him up and he couldn’t get a minute’s respite. It was evening when Lillian came over to see him. “What happened to Skylar?” “She’s down with a fever. I’m sure you’ll be happy that you’ve driven her away from here.”“I didn’t know she would fall sick,” he grumbled, looking away. “I’m fine now. Please, can you get me discharged? I hate staying here all by myself.” Lillian rolled her eyes at her brother. “It isn’t in my hands. Dr. Foster will check you up tomorrow and then decide.” Christian groaned, not wanting to spend another day here. The wish to go home to see Skylar was so intense that he was restless throughout the time. With nothing to do, he picked up his mobile phone to call her. “Yes, Christian!” said Erica, accepting

After dinner, Skylar moved into Christian’s room. Although they had shared a bed before, this was the first time as a married couple. How would he consummate their marriage? “Come here, Skylar!” Skylar stilled, hearing his husky tone. “What do you want, Christian?” “I’ll tell you if you come near me.” Despite knowing his limitations, she couldn’t stop her heart from thumping wildly in her chest. A deep blush stained her cheeks as she walked towards the bed. “Do you need water?” He shook his head, his eyes glittering with desire. “Do you need to use the washroom?” Christian shook his head, his eyes dropping to her lips. “Then, what do you want?” Christian grabbed her hand and pulled her slowly towards him. “My needs are of a different kind.” Skylar blushed even more at his husky reply. In a few days, you’ll be perfectly fine.” “I feel better already. Maybe I’ll start working from tomorrow.” “Are you out of your mind? How can you even think about it? You still need rest, Christian,” she scolded him, helping him into a fresh shirt. Lillian knocked and came in to check. “Perfect. I think that’s all for today. I’ve arranged for a nurse to come over tomorrow to change your dressing.” Christian looked a little disappointed but smiled at his sister’s efforts. “You should rest now, Chris. Ever since you arrived from the hospital, you haven’t had a minute’s rest. Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to get you discharged so early,” scolded Grandpa Ben, walking into the room. He looked very stressed and Christian nodded, to ease his worries. Skylar went away to clear the mess while Grandpa Ben and Lillian helped Christ

Grandpa Ben was pronounced dead when they reached the hospital. Caleb called Lillian to inform her. “What happened, Caleb? Did you find Grandpa? Where is he now?” “Yes, we found Grandpa. Please come over to our hospital right away.” Lilian frowned on hearing his voice crack. Was he weeping? Her heart constricted with fear. Was something wrong with Grandpa? “What happened to Grandpa, Caleb? Is he critical?” “He’s no more!” whispered Caleb, breaking down totally. The phone fell from Lillian’s hand and she slumped to the chair in shock. “What happened? What did Caleb say?” asked Christian, anxiously waiting for her reply. Since morning, they had been waiting in the living room to get an update on Grandpa Ben. There has been no update so far.“They’ve rescued him.” She burst into tears unable to say a word more.“And? Now give me a kiss before we go down.”Skylar complied, capturing his lips in a gentle and lingering kiss. It portrayed her blissfully happy state. Your presence in my life makes me happy!” He kissed her passionately, and Skylar gaped at her smudged makeup when he released her. “Oh no! Skylar gaped at him for a moment, absorbing the bombshell he had just dropped. Then a slow smile spread across her face as realization dawned on her. With almost all her friends pregnant, she felt left out whenever they discussed, unable to contribute to their pregnancy woes. Now she could! She just hoped she got pregnant! “Really? I want to get pregnant with your baby!” she gasped, making Christian’s jaws drop with surprise. He hadn’t expected her to be so eager to embrace motherhood since he wasn’t eager to embrace fatherhood so early. He wanted to enjoy his married life for at least two years before planning to have children. “I wanted children too, but not so early.” He sighed, since it was actually God’s will. They had no say in the matter. “If it has to happen early, it will. It’s destiny, Christian.” “Yes, you’re right. It’s no use pondering over it. Come closer baby!” He grinned at her, pulling her closer, right into his lap. The water calmed them, invigorated their minds,

He captured her feminine moans of bliss, swirling his tongue and devouring her hungrily. It was more of a kiss to vent out the pent-up hunger he had kept buried for so long. After getting a taste of her, he had been addicted to her sweetness, but Erica’s health prevented them from enjoying the trip. She kissed him back, making him groan as a shock of pleasure spiraled through his body. He wanted more now! His fingertips skimmed along her throat, trailing down to the buttons of her top. In a split second, he undid them and eased the top off her body. Next went the rest of her clothes. Skylar lifted her eyes to meet his glittering, lust-filled gaze. He gently cupped her breasts, feeling the voluptuous mounds that overflowed in his hands. Pressing his thumb over a taut peak, he sucked the other into his mouth. H

They reached Bellevue Hospital after an hour. Skylar immediately inquired after Eva, but it was strange she had taken a long leave for almost a fortnight. Was it because of her wedding to Alexander? “She is pregnant and her wedding is coming up!” the nurse informed her. Skylar was shocked to hear the news. Did Eva find her happiness at last with Alexander Van Every? “Let’s go to see Erica,” said Christian, leading her away from the neonatal department. They went to the emergency department and met Sebastian in the lobby. “I was waiting for you,” said a haggard-looking Sebastian. “How is she now?” asked Skylar. “She’s still on drips.” “How did her health deteriorate so much?” asked Christian worriedly. “She was exceptionally nauseous.
