Kris slumped against the cold, damp wall of Bayford Prison, his eyes fixed on the grey concrete floor. The dim fluorescent lights above cast eerie shadows, while the stench of mold and despair hung heavy in the air. His mind wandered to Claudine, her smile etched in his memory like a scar. What happened to her? Was she still alive? The prison guard's abrupt takeover had left Kris with only questions. One moment, Claudine was beside him; the next, she vanished.
