Chapter 20 No Conscience

Before leaving, James paused and didn't look back.

“Lin Boting, has my elder brother ever told you that I have no conscience?”

This incoherent remark certainly aroused Chen Xiaoyu's suspicion, but James did not explain. Lin Boting watched his back disappear and turned around after a while.

The ward returned to peace. He quietly sat down beside the bed and said to the person on the bed, "They're gone. You can wake up now."

Serena opened her eyes and touched her nose sheepishly, "Is it that obvious?"

"It's not obvious. He pretends well. But I'm a doctor. I can tell whether he's awake or not."

Lin Boting helped her sit up, and Serena said solemnly, "Thank you!"

"I've thanked you before, and I accept it."

"This thank you is for helping me send them away."

Lin Boting smiled and said , "I know that you and James have been at odds for a long time." He paused, "But this time you were saved thanks to him."

When Lin Boting arrived, he happened to see the police trying to climb over the balcony, so he followed them. James went up earlier than him and followed the group guarding the main entrance.

"I called the police, but these policemen were probably called by James."

"How did he know someone was going to hurt me?"

"Maybe he also noticed that the voice-activated lights on your floor were broken..." Lin Boting said, "At least that's why I discovered these problems."

The voice-controlled light went out not because the bulb was broken or the circuit was short-circuited, but because the wires were cut, and the neat cut was obviously man-made.

"There are also marks on the wall in front of your door, but this building is too old and there are all kinds of things stuck on the wall, so it's hard for ordinary people to notice. I only figured it out on the way back."

Serena sighed, "If they had come a week later I would have moved away..."

"Maybe it's because you want to move them that they chose to do it today? To be honest, I just stumbled upon it by accident and I don't know when they will do it."

That makes sense. The two men cut the wires and marked the place. They must have planned this long ago based on the employer's request. It would be impossible for them to allow her to move out in time.

Serena remembered that James had once asked her about the street lights, and the voice-controlled lights were broken on the day he came. It was not surprising that he noticed it with his keen sense. Maybe he really wanted her to move out of concern, rather than deliberately making things difficult for her.

There was also the scent of fir that lingered around her when she was unconscious, and the strong and warm embrace, which was free of desire but safe, making her reluctant to leave. It turned out that she was more attached to this embrace than she thought.

Seeing that she was silent for a long time, Lin Boting thought she was tired, so he advised, "You should rest more and wait until you are better before doing other things. Although it is not serious, minor bleeding in the abdomen can be serious or minor. Call a nurse immediately if anything happens. Don't move around for 24 hours."

Serena nodded obediently, "I'll listen to you."

...

At half past one in the morning, Serena opened her eyes wide in the darkness.

She was trying to figure out who her employer was and whether the police could find him out. Then she thought that she would have to thank Lin Bo Ting when the time came. Then she thought of James.

She buried her head in the quilt to stop herself from thinking too much. Her thoughts about James were like weeds. They could not be burned by wildfires, but would flourish with just a little spring breeze.

In order to burn it out again, she had to think of something unpleasant.

It was late at night, and after catching the bad guys they had to go to the restaurant to check in. James really doted on Chen Xiaoyu. She turned over and suddenly thought, why did Chen Xiaoyu know so quickly?

Could it be possible that James would report his itinerary to her?

It is not necessarily impossible. It is very normal between engaged couples. Even if James does not report it, Chen Xiaoyu will ask Sun Heng. After all, Sun Heng will answer even if she asks, let alone his future fiancée.

Serena became more and more unhappy the more she thought about it, and finally fell asleep in grief and anger.

Serena slept soundly until dawn without even dreaming. This exceptionally sound sleep earned her the doctor's permission to be discharged from the hospital.

She said to Lin Boting, "I just said I'm fine."

Lin Boting shook his head and smiled, "Pretending is not a good habit. The police will come up to take your statement later. After the statement is taken... you'd better not go back to that house for the time being."

"Why?"

"Because Miss Xie is moving."

The one who answered was Sun Heng, followed by Sister Sun. When Sister Sun saw Serena, she rushed over shouting and looked her up from head to toe.

"Miss Xie, your face is injured, your hands and feet are injured too. Go back and have a good rest. Sister Sun will make you some soup, and we will nourish our bodies."

Serena had to comfort Sister Sun first. During the conversation, she found out that it was James who ordered her to be sent to Linjiang Mansion as soon as she was discharged from the hospital.

"I do plan to move there, but I have to go back and clean up first."

Special Assistant Sun smiled, "Don't worry, Miss Xie, everything has been packed up, and all your belongings should arrive at Linjiang Mansion before you."

"Are you, Mr. Shen, always so disrespectful in doing things?"

Special Assistant Sun 's smile remained unchanged, and he only turned his eyes slightly, "Mr. Lin, Mr. Shen's family affairs are not something we outsiders should talk about."

The implication is that you, an outsider, are talking nonsense .

Sun Heng had followed James for seven years and had learned a lot from him in verbal battles. Serena was afraid that Lin Boting would suffer a loss, so she hurriedly said, "Okay, Special Assistant Sun, Boting is my friend and he cares about me. I will go with you after we finish taking the statement, but now please go out and wait for a moment."

After everyone left, Lin Boting sighed, "He is even more outrageous than he was three years ago."

"He's always like this. I'm used to it, but he's not a bad person."

"I know, I just..." Lin Boting said regretfully, "If only he was half as calm as William, it would be great. For example, he kicked those two men yesterday. At least let them finish their words. Otherwise, we could have found out who hired them!"

After he said that, Serena also had an impression, but James's personality was like that, so she could only say, "As long as he's not dead, the police will definitely be able to investigate it."

"Not necessarily, if their employer is really powerful."

"I really can't think of anyone with a bigger background than the Forrest family in Beijing."

Hearing this, Lin Boting opened his mouth but said nothing, and the two quickly changed the subject.

After taking the statement, Serena asked a few more questions. The police had strict rules and regulations and would not say more before getting the result. She got into James' Maybach without getting any information out of the question.

This is the car he often uses for work. The last time Serena rode in it was ... She pursed her lips and decided to think of something normal.

"Assistant Sun, how did Mr. Forrest know that those two people were going to cause trouble for me?"

Sun Heng lowered his head and operated the PAD, and answered casually, "Mr. Shen felt something was wrong when we left your community that night, so he asked me to check it out, and I found it right away."

Serena nodded, which was pretty much what she thought.

"What did you find out?"

"Found out..." Sun Heng suddenly stopped, "Ms. Xie, Mr. Shen asked for three days of leave for you."

"Three days?! Annual leave or personal leave?"

"annual leave."

Serena leaned weakly against the back of the chair. James had taken away three days of the annual leave that she had saved up with great effort in one go. He was really generous to others.

"I don't need to rest that long."

Sun Heng scratched his head and smiled foolishly, trying hard to play dumb. As a fellow worker, Serena understood how difficult it was for him to serve the boss, so she could only do it to appease herself. Suddenly, she realized that Sun Heng was trying to change the subject.

The belongings and luggage did arrive at Linjiang Mansion earlier than Serena. Sister Sun said, "They moved in early this morning. They were all packed when I came out."

There was a new mobile phone on the table in the living room, unopened. Sister Sun scooped a bowl of soup from the kitchen and put it down, mumbling:

"Mr. Shen came back the night before yesterday. He drank some wine and told me that you would move in soon. He really understands you."
