"Kai, what do you mean you're here to take me out?" I asked, trying to hide the confusion and surprise in my voice.

I could feel my heart beating faster, not because of excitement, but because I knew this visit wasn't going to end well.

"I'm serious, Ellie. I mean every word I said, I want to take you out," Kai replied, his smile widening, reaching his eyes. "I wanted to spend some time with you. Just the two of us. Away from everyone else."

I crossed my arms, trying to appear nonchalant.

I didn't know what to say or do. As Kai spoke, my eyes didn't leave the door, as I was afraid Aiden might walk through it. I hated these kinds of visits.

"Kai, this is unexpected. You should've called first." I swallowed.

"I'm sorry for that, I know," the blue-eyed guy apologized, covering the space between us, "But I needed to see you. In person. And to be honest, I didn't want to give you a chance to say no over the phone."
