Chapter 5

Dominic's POV

The soft blues filtered through the stereo as I leaned over the seat. My nose widened as I took a deep puff of my Cuban cigarette. My head almost jerked forward as my consigliere stepped on the brake pedal. I spared him a cold glance and he mumbled a word of apology.

“Boss, there’s a checkpoint” He whispered.

I nodded and pulled out my pistol from the holster, I tossed it under the car seat and adjusted my leather jacket. I pulled off my hat and placed it on my knee. Chris rolled the car slowly and stopped. A cop knocked on the windscreen and I clicked on the button.

“Officer, have this for your lunch,” I said slowly and reached for the side pocket of my leather jacket. I pulled out a few bundles of notes and tossed them to the cop. His eyes brightened and an uneasy glance then spread across his face. I knew he was somewhat scared of the money.

“It’s yours, officer!” I tried to force a smile.

“What do you do for a living?” The cop asked.

A deep breath escaped my nostrils and I sat erect, “I am into buying and selling”.

“Be more specific” The Cop pressed further. He walked over to the driver’s window and peered into the car.

“You drive a roll Royce and you just handed me a bundle of cash. It makes me curious” He squinted his eyes and then folded his arms.

I cleared my throat and put on my hat back, “In as much as I fucking know that bribery is a crime”.

“Oh, you know?” He cut in, “Yet you try to bribe an officer of the law. If you know the American laws, you should fucking know what obstruction of justice”.

My eyes rolled in their socket, “I’m not fucking obstructing justice. I just don’t want to be delayed”.

The officer chucked, “Pull out your hat”.

I lifted my gaze, “I’ll give you a hundred thousand dollars now. Just let us pass, I have a fucking meeting to attend”.

The officer smiled again, “All the more way to suspect who you are”. He took a step backward, “Step out of the fucking car”.

“Chris, this is a fucking bulletproof vehicle. Step on the accelerator” I ordered and clicked on the windscreen button.

Chris ignited the vehicle and stepped on the gas pedal. The car jerked forward, causing the cop to scream in panic. He pulled out a pistol and tried to fire but Chris drove the car in a pattern and swiftly turned into the next street.

“Fuck” I leaned back again and stuck the Cuban inside my mouth. I took a deep puff and peered at my gold wristwatch.

“The private jet should be available in an hour “Chris announced.

I sniffed and a throaty cough escaped my mouth, “I don’t have an hour to spare. The Californian air is already making me sick”.

“Don, do you think whisking Donald's daughter off is a good idea? You know the Quadrant always get what they want” Chris remarked and turned the steering into the next lane.

“What do they fucking want?”

Chris shrugged, “Who knows?’

“The crime world is very complicated. I like complications and all the same, I hate it too. If you’re not careful and sensitive to the times and seasons, you might make a deadly mistake”.

“Donald made a mistake?” Chris asked.

“A man was killed on his anniversary night. That’s all sort of personal to me. The Quadrant do make their threats known to the men of the underworld. Donald’s death might not be from the Quadrant. It seems to me like a personal agenda. If the Quadrant isn’t divided like I feared, then some new powers are rising” I remarked and leaned back on the chair.

Thirty minutes later, Chris pulled over at a private air station. I bent slowly, pulled out my pistol, and inserted it into my holster. I pulled off my hat and stepped out of the car. The sun was high and I squinted my gaze. The air station was almost empty aside from a few jets. I clicked a button on my belt and a wheezing sound resounded. The booth opened fully and Alicia lay sprawled inside. There was a masking tape on her mouth and her slender hands were tied. As my gaze lingered on her, I felt a tug on my chest. I winced and took a deep puff of my Cuban cigarette. I inched closer, held her hand, and pulled her out. She made some feeble attempt to protest but I pulled her further and slammed her against the car. Her muffled voice resounded throughout the empty station. I walked away and slammed the door shut.

I turned swiftly to see her running away, a smirk appeared on my face. She kept running, her body trying to overcome the tape around her wrist. She then lost her balance and fell to the ground. I walked closer to her, her tender eyes were filled with pain.

“You need to save yourself all of this stress” I dragged her up.

I lifted my gaze and spotted my jet gliding through the air, aiming for the ground. I grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the airstrip. The jet landed and we boarded it. As Alicia settled in, I helped her strap her belt and pulled off the masking tape on her mouth.

“My family has done you no wrong, just let me go, please” She whimpered.

“Unfortunately Alicia, you are going nowhere. I have a knife with me, I’ll cut a finger if I fucking hear a sound” I pulled out a small knife from my jacket.

The only thing I could hear was her soft whimpers. The jet traveled for about an hour and landed on my private island. Chris made some calls and a highlander drove towards us. We boarded the vehicle and it took us to my residence. I stepped out of the car and pulled Alicia out. Her gaze met with my grey cold eyes and she flinched. I then dragged her into a small corridor and kicked one of the doors open. I tossed her to the bed and a deep breath.

“This should be your salvation now” I muttered and pulled a new Cub

a cigarette from my back pocket.
