I decided right then and there that today was not only the bride’s worst nightmare, but it was also mine. Alana kept bawling her eyes out and no matter how many times I tried telling her that her groom was insane, she did not believe me. “You ruined this, why do you even have to exist? We would have been happily married by now if it was not because of you!”
I knew I should be offended by her words. I mean, who the fuck did she think she was to decide whether or not I existed?! And why would my existence make any difference when clearly all her poor choice of the groom that had gotten her to this in the first place. Still, I calmed myself down and told myself that it was not her fault that her future husband was demented and too coward to call the wedding off before today. “Look, I do not know what he said but I am not involved with him, I never was.” I turned to Brett who was looking at me with a deep frown in between his brows. “I am with this guy. Brett is my boyfriend and frankly speaking, I don’t know your future husband.”
“Don’t you dare lie to me, bitch!” Alana was flinging her hand at me and I was ready to put my arm up to evade her when someone grabbed my waist and pulled me tightly against his body.
I looked up past the broad shoulder and movie star jaw to catch a glimpse of his silver eyes. His face was tight, his free hand caught Alana’s wrist. “Don’t touch my mate, Alana,” he growled. Whatever came out of his mouth was not human. I tried to pull away from his grip but it only made him hold me tighter.
“Let go of her,” said Brett, rising to his feet. He took a step forward and was face to face with the groom. “I said let go.”
If I thought that Brett was defending me, I was sadly mistaken because the next second, his hand shot up and caught the groom’s hand which was holding Alana’s wrist. I stared at Brett in disbelief. At that moment, I knew where he stood and whose story he actually believed in. Still, it did not make it an easier pill to swallow. The guy who had promised to cherish me, wanted to build a life together with me once we graduated, was now standing up for another girl instead of me. I always had my doubts when it came to him, it had always been in the back of my mind but I had always ignored it. Now, it was out in the open.
The groom released his hold of Alana’s wrist and she massaged her wrist which I now realized was red. Alana’s eyes, however, were still glued on the groom. “You said you would give it a try. You said our love was enough.” Another tear slipped out of one corner of her eye and I could not bear the pain on her face so I shoved the groom away.
“I do not know what you are trying to pull here but I am not going to stand here and let you blabber another lie. I don’t know and I don’t plan to. I am out of here.” I shook my head then turned to Brett. The sweet boyfriend who I thought would never hurt me was now looking at me like he could not recognize me like I was a stranger to him. “As for you, we are done. Have a nice life!”
I was about to make my way out of this place when I felt someone pulling my hair from behind and I realized that those small clutches belonged to Alana. The weak and defenseless Alana, who now had my boyfriend standing up as a knight to defend her honor. “Alana, stop,” the groom said with an exasperated sigh as if this whole thing was wearing him out when in fact, he was the cause of it in the first place. This time, she did not let go. She even pulled my hair from the root just to prove a point, I held on to my hair, refused to let her pull them all off.
Then another weird thing happened. The groom’s silver eyes turned black and his low voice made me shudder when he said, “Let it go.”
Alana whimpered, dropping her hands. She tilted her head to one side, showing off her bare neck, then ducked her head. And I simply stood there, wondering what on Earth was happening. Alana clutched her head and started to beg. “Please, please. I am sorry, I am so sorry.”
I continued to stare at her while she yelped as if she was in pain while in truth, no one even touched her. I glanced around, expecting one of her folks or friends to help her but everyone simply ducked their heads in silence. Everyone except for me and Brett. Brett looked just as confused as I was. “What the hell,” I muttered under my breath.
The groom turned to face me. He extended his hand and looked at me as if he was expecting me to take it. No way in hell I would do that especially since he had just caused an unnecessary misunderstanding. “Come with me.”
“When hell freezes over,” I replied before turning around and at last, making my exit.

I furiously hit the speed dial and called Eros yet he did not pick up any of my calls. After my sixth call, I gave up and simply left him a text asking for an emergency meeting. Walking down the parking lot in front of the church, I refused to meet anyone’s eyes and ignored their whispers. This day had gone from being fine to being a shithole. I opened the Uber app on my phone and booked an Uber because clearly, there was no way I crawled my way back inside and asked Brett to take me home.
The Uber driver informed me that he was stuck at the junction nearby but would be here in about ten minutes so I waited at the front gate. Opening my messaging app, I quickly closed it due to the number of messages I received. No doubt what had happened back there a few minutes ago had been spread among my friends and all over the internet. All of a sudden, schools on Monday did not sound as appealing anymore. I had managed to walk those corridors without a hitch for the last three years and now things would change for the worse. Everyone would truly think that I had ruined Alana’s wedding. Gosh, I wished I had at least landed a punch on that groom’s face instead I was the one being assaulted by his bride.
Letting out a heavy sigh, I checked my phone again, asking the Uber driver if he would be arriving anytime soon. By the time I looked up, my eyes caught movement from my right and I turned to see the groom walking towards me. He was still wearing jet black trousers, a dark suit with a white shirt underneath. I casually turned around, wanting nothing to do with him, and would do my best to ignore him unless he came to clear the misunderstanding that he had caused.
“Hey,” he greeted me. His body was towering over mine, obstructing the sunlight.
“Unless you are here to tell me that you will explain to everyone that you were just too coward to admit that you are scared of getting tied to a woman then I have no wish to talk to you,” I said without preamble.
He heaved a long sigh. “I meant what I said back there, Xyrra, you are my soulmate and I am bound to you forever.”
This time, I could no longer ignore him and faced him instead. “Enough with the bullshits. No one is around so why don’t you just cut the crap.” When he did not say anything, I continued with my speech, pouring all my anger and annoyance at him. “We only made out once, nothing else happened.” I laughed at him mockingly. “Hell, I don’t even know your name so how the hell are we soulmates?!”
“My name is Ryker Cromwell,” he said after a moment.
“Well, I don’t care,” I snapped at him. Everything about him just brought anger boiling inside of me. Even his handsome face looked annoying to me.
He caught my arm and looked down to meet my eyes. His silver eyes flickered to black for one split second. “You know, I have been very tolerant with you because you haven’t got a clue about my world but let me tell you that that is not how you talk to your Alpha.”
“I guess it is a good thing you are not my Alpha. Whatever the hell that even means.” I tried to shrug off his hold but he was too strong.
“But, Darling, I am.” He let out a deep chuckle and I could feel the hair on the back of my neck stand. “You just don’t know it yet.”
I looked down at his hand still clutching my arm then gazed up at his silver eyes. “If you do not let go of me, I swear I will file a report to the police and they will have your sorry ass locked up.”
For a second, I thought he would not budge but in the end, he dropped his hand. “You should come with me, Xyrra. Everything will make sense once you do.”
I laughed humorlessly. How crazy did he think I was? Why would I go anywhere with a man who had done nothing but made up a bunch of lies and terrified the hell out of me? “I think there is something wrong with your hearing because I have answered this same request not too long ago.”
He leaned forward, his eyes were now of the same color as his suit and when his lips parted, I could see his teeth protruding, almost like a canine. Perhaps the air conditioner at the church had been drugged because I swear the dark hair at either side of his head was getting longer each passing second. Thankfully my Uber came, stopping only a few feet away from me, and I rushed my way there before getting into the front passenger seat. From the rearview mirror, I could see him watching me and I had no doubt that his eyes were as black as the night sky.
I took a deep breath, closing my eyes, as I recalled what had happened last week.
One week ago,It was Friday night when I decided that I wanted to have some fun. My friend, Davina Park, has convinced me to go to this new club downtown and for the first time, I took her up on her offer. I would turn eighteen years old in two months’ time and I already had a boyfriend who wanted nothing but to get married once we graduated three months from now. To be honest, I was not sure if I was ready to become a wife or to be precise, his wife. I mean, we have only been with each other for six months, that was not enough to build a life together. Yet no matter how many times I have told Brett Welsh about it, he always tried to talk me out of it. He kept on mentioning his own parents who had married young and were only in their late thirties now. Then he started mentioning my dad and how it would be wonderful if I could finally be free of my controlling dad once we were married. In my dad’s defense, he has not always been like that. He has changed since my mom died when I was ten
Alpha Ryker POV “I know what you need.”
Present-day, By the time I got into my house, I could tell that my dad preparing dinner in the kitchen from the sound of his knife hitting the chopping board. I placed my purse on the couch before making my way to the kitchen. “Smells really good in here,” I commented as I opened the fridge and picked up one can of soda. “What are you making, Dad?” I asked, turning around.
“Holy shite!” I stumbled backward and tripped. I groaned as my behind hit the ground but my eyes never left the creature because I was too afraid that he might attack me if I looked away. The black wolf moved towards me and I froze. Its face was so close to me that I could feel its breath fanning the side of my face. It opened its mouth and I could almost taste death knocking on my door before another strange thing happened. The giant wolf licked me, it actually licked one side of my face before taking a step bac
My lips twitched into forming a smile when I checked my phone that day and saw Eros’s reply. ‘Wait until I get back to town. I will kick their arses for you!’ After I sent him a quick reply telling him to come back sooner, I slid my phone inside the pocket of my jacket and walked to my locker. After what had happened earlier with Ryker under the bleachers, I went back inside and pretended that I had not just seen a naked man turned into a large hairy wolf. My phone chimed again and I pulled it out. It was a text from Davina. She had gone with flu and skipped school today, she texted me saying that she felt much better now that she had had enough rest and chicken soup. I texted her back, telling her how boring school was without her, and hit the send button just as I arrived at my locker. Out of the corner of my eyes, I could feel people were starting to crowd around m
Nothing welcomed me home better than my dad saying, “Wow, Sweetie, you reek.” After spending the rest of my day trying to get the paint off my motorcycle at Patrick’s repair shop, I had to use the olive oil to get the paint off the seat. I could not get it all off but there was progress, at least now there would not be a word ‘Slut’ on my ass whenever I rode it. Luckily Patrick did not ask anything when I walked into his garage. He simply asked me what I needed and helped me with the paint on the headlight and the body of my motorcycle. He had used the paint remover and told me that I needed to leave my bike there for a couple of days for him to polish it then paint it black again. So in the end, I had to walk my way home and possibly catch a bus to school tomorrow. “Yeah, well, it has been a long day,” I replied with a sigh as I placed my helmet by the side of the stairs the
How I had somehow managed to sneak back to my bed was forever a mystery but there was an obvious reason why I could not sleep that night. So many things went through my head, so many scenarios in which none I liked because deep down, I refused to believe that my dad was actually keeping me safe for a reason, that I was something he was going to bargain with the person Eros had been referring to. And what did he want to exchange me for? His position as Beta at the pack? Would they give him his old position that easily even after what he had done? Then I started to have questions about myself. Why would an eighteen years old normal teenager be of any value? Why would I be of any value? I was just a normal human. I had no superpower and was no Einstein genius. I could not turn into a giant wolf at will either. Why would that dangerous person everyone seemed to be scared of want me? Also, I still found it hard to believe that my father, the per
Even though he had told me to run, I did not. I knew that if something happened to me, my dad would lose his bargaining power so there was no way he would hurt me. Instead, I watched Ryker face to face with my dad’s wolf. “You don’t want to do this, Atlas,” warned Ryker, still in his human form. Atlas seemed to be my dad’s wolf. “I know you have been locked out for ten long years, I know you are eager to come out, but you have a clean record, you don’t want to taint that. Leonidas will not take you back.” I turned to Ryker, lifting my eyebrow. “Are you scared of my dad’s wolf or are you trying to buy yourself some time?” “Neither,” answered Ryker with a frown. “Khrysaor has been in a foul mood and I don’t want to kill Rob or Atlas.” “Why?” I asked out of curiosity, not because I wanted him to hurt my dad. Although based on what I had read online during breakfast, killing someone’s mate was pretty high on the list of ten most

By the time I woke up, it was already noon and I found myself alone in his bed. I was hoping that Ryker would be here with me but I knew that he was an Alpha and he had tons of things to do other than to stay in bed, waiting for me to wake up. I stretched my tired and sore body then swung my legs to one side of the bed, getting up. Out of habit, I folded the blanket and tidied the bed before I walked out of his bedroom, closed the door behind me, and made my way downstairs.
Xyrra’s POV Call me crazy but before I opened the door, just by hearing the knock alone, I could tell that it was Ryker and despite everything else, my heart skipped a beat. I tried telling myself that it was just sex that we’d shared but deep down I knew that I was fooling myself. There was something more. Something tantalizingly sweet and dangerously perm
Alpha Ryker’s POV I knew that there was something wrong with me. The wound had healed so whatever it was, I knew it was not physical. After everyone had gone to bed, I went to the library on the second floor and searched for the book which had all the information on ancient artifacts. I’d finished going through the information regarding Roman and Egypt artifacts when Dmitry entered the library and approached
“Ryker!” I screamed as I made my way towards them. Some wolves tried to prevent me from reaching Ryker and I blasted my power, throwing them out of my way. I saw Eros attack the human, tearing him out to pieces.
“Wow, look at you,” I teased Ryker as I walked into the kitchen and found him wearing my dad’s clothes and also his apron. “What are you making?” I placed my hand on the spot on the kitchen island and peered over his shoulder. “French toast.” Ryker turned his head and planted a kiss on my left temple. He did it in a way that almost scared me because it was

Ryker and I wasted no time as we made our way to the Center. It seemed that Trish had volunteered to join the team looking for Eros and she’d been the one finding him. While Ryker focused on driving, I quickly sent a text to Trish, thanking her for doing this. She didn’t have to help but she knew how much Eros meant to me and helped anyway. By the time the car stopped a few blocks away from Eros’s apartment building, I frowned. I couldn’t believe that Ares had checked himself into the same apartment although he rented a different unit than what Eros had there. Perhaps the familiarity of the building somehow drew him into renting a unit there despite the high rental cost. This could be taken as a good sign that maybe his memory was still there, just hidden. That he could be saved. I got out of the car as soon as the car stopped and both Trish and Young Seb approached me. “So what now?” asked Young Seb looking at me and then at Ryker who had gotten out of the car and was approaching us
Alpha Leonidas agreed that he would send a few of his pack members to go looking for Eros in the Center, Ryker would also send a few of the Ethereal members to help. Young Seb would come with us once we managed to locate Eros/Ares but he would be accompanied by his sister, a pack warrior named Yelena. Young Seb didn’t look happy being babysat by his sister but Alpha Leonidas’ words had been final. It was either Yelena or Beta Adler and of course, Young Seb would prefer his sister rather than the grumpy Beta. As we drove back to the North, I tried to read Ryker’s mind and when I came up with nothing, I decided to ask him directly, “What are you doing to do with Alana?” There was a long moment of silence inside the car before Ryker finally glanced at me and replied, “I don’t know.” He inhaled a deep breath and let it out. “Dmitry already locked her up again. Her dad kept asking to see me, he tried to mind link me numerous times when we were back at the Erebus’ territory but I blocked
