It was a normal Friday and I was working at the cafe as a waitress. The day was rather slow and as I was cleaning the front window glass, I let my mind mull over what had happened for the last two months. To be fair, there had been tons of things. Two months ago I’d gone to a wedding with my boyfriend at that time only to have the groom, Ryker, turned to me and claimed me to be his soulmate and the love of his life. I’d gotten dumped by my boyfriend right at the spot and a few days later, I’d learned that there were creatures other than humans living on Earth and Ryker being one of them. Werewolves, witches, warlocks, and god knows what else truly existed and were hidden in the shadows. Then to take it up on a higher level of shock, I’d found out that my own father and my best friend were also werewolves. My father was a rogue, kicked out of his pack after killing his mate, my mother. Eros was actually sent by their alpha to monitor my dad’s progress because he couldn’t remember a damn thing the night my mother had been brutally murdered.
There was a man with his kid daughter crossing the street, his hand was holding hers tightly. A tear pricked my eyes. My father had abandoned me two months ago, and two weeks ago so had my mate. I knew Dmitry, Eros, and my friends kept on reassuring me that they were all here for me and that it wasn’t my fault that two of my most important people in this world had left me but sometimes I couldn’t help but wonder if they were wrong.
I quickly pulled that thought out of my head before something bad happened. The last time I’d been feeling upset, all the light bulbs in the entire house exploded. I couldn’t let any peculiar thing happen, especially here in the Center. This was the humans’ territory although they didn’t exactly know that the land was already divided into four regions. North was occupied by our pack, the Ethereal, South was Eros’s pack The Erebus’s territory — used to be my dad’s too. The Night Walkers owned the West while witches and other magical beings lived in the East.
“Xyrra, I’m pretty positive that glass is pristine now,” I heard a male voice from behind me and quickly turned around to face Lukas, my boss. “You can clean that table instead.” He pointed at a table with two cups and plates but no occupants. “The couple has left about half an hour ago,” he explained. Then he narrowed his eyes, a frown nestled on his forehead. “Is everything alright? Are you okay?”
No. “Yes.” I gave him what I hoped was a reassuring smile and moved past him to the table he’d referred to earlier. “I’ll get that table cleaned up right away.”
Right after I finished cleaning that table, I went behind the counter and learned how to make latte art from the on-duty barista. Lukas let me learn in my free time since the cafe only had two baristas now and both were part-time and had unreliable hours, especially during exams. On the other hand, I worked full day from morning till closing night on weekends.
“Xy,” I heard another male voice calling me, and without even looking I knew that it was Eros Adler, my best friend.
And without him even asking, I already said, “I’m fine, Er. You don’t need to check up on me every day.”
Lukas who was standing behind the register said, “Long black with no sugar, right?” Eros had indeed been coming here so often that my boss knew his order.
Eros gave him a small nod of confirmation and Lukas’s eyes were once again on me. “You could join him, Xy, it’s close to your break anyway.”
It was still an hour before my actual break. Clearly, my smile wasn’t that convincing if my boss was still worried. I wanted to tell him that I was good but seeing the obvious concern in his eyes, I knew I wouldn’t hear the end of this if I didn’t sit with Eros so I nodded and muttered a small thanks before following Eros to the far end table by the window.
I placed Eros’s drink on the table in front of him then sat opposite of him. “Seriously, Er, I’m fine.”
“It’s only been two weeks since—” He didn’t finish his sentence. He didn’t have to.
I took a sharp breath and said for the hundredth time, “Still, you don’t need to babysit me.”
“I’m not,” he denied. “I just come for my daily dose of caffeine.”
I rolled my eyes, not convinced by his reasoning at all. “Yeah, right. And you have to get it all the way here at District 8 and not from a nearby coffee shop around your area?”
“The coffee around my place tastes bad. Lukas got some good beans,” he insisted.
I was still not convinced at all. I appreciated my friends’ concerns and being all caring but they could be too much sometimes. Visiting me at work every single day was on the list of being too much.
“Xy,” said Eros after taking a sip of his black coffee, “I’ve been thinking. You know, even though it was impossible at that time but you managed to cure me. You actually brought me back so I think you can fix Ryker too.”
“It’s a different thing, Er.” I swallowed a big lump in my throat. I wasn’t making excuses, I’d read about the Mad Wolf disease and asked around. There wasn’t much one could do. Not even a powerful sorceress could fix it and I’d only been a sorceress for a month. “You were hexed by a witch and that witch told me how to fix you. Ryker was struck by an ancient sword and there is no way I could go knocking on the West and ask one of the Night Walkers to tell me how to cure him. They hate my guts.”
“They hate your father for killing their alpha once upon a time,” corrected Eros. “Not you.”
“Fine but did they go after him? No, they went after me. Me. Didn’t you hear what they said after they struck him?” I could feel my breathing getting heavier and my chest hurting but I didn’t pay any heed.“Fleur Ashcroft, now you know how it feels to lose the one you love.”
We stayed silent for a few minutes, both were on our own thoughts. I knew that Eros could no longer argue with me once I’d laid all the facts on the table.
“I will find him for you, Xy,” he vowed all of a sudden, his blue-green eyes were holding mine. Eros had a central Heterochromia. It was a condition that caused his eyes to have two colors: light blue and deep green. The one around his iris was light blue, just like the morning sky in the summer, while the rest was deep, moss green, like the dampened grass after the rain. His eyes were beautiful and made me jealous sometimes. “Once I have my hands on that bastard, I will bring him home so you could try to do some magic on him. I am sure it would work. It worked on mine,” he still insisted.
In the end, I thanked him, and shortly after, he left. Time passed quicker when one was not paying attention and before I realized it, it was already nine in the evening. After clocking out, I bid my goodbye to Lukas then walked out of the back door. There was a small alley there where I parked my motorcycle whenever I worked in order to avoid paying the parking fee. My boss was okay with it too.
I was approaching my bike when I heard the storm and looked up at the sky. “Shite!” I cursed under my breath. Here was not London but Great Britain’s sky still loved a little thunder and rainstorm. I ducked my head and raced towards where I’d parked but before I managed to reach there, I heard a loud bang as if something was hitting a metal surface and the next thing I knew a big, strong arm grabbed me around the waist, turning me around, and in a matter of seconds, warm, hungry lips clashed with mine in a passionate but punishing kiss. I fought like a madwoman, kicking and throwing my fists, for two seconds before realization kicked in and I twirled my wrist, ready to summon some magic, and kicked my assailant’s arse yet something stopped me and I stayed perfectly still. Only for a split second before my body swayed and I found myself kissing him back because I knew exactly whose lips were pressed against mine, whose tongue was caressing the inner, most sensitive part of my mouth.
Ryker.
No, not just him. There was Khrysaor, his wolf, in this kiss too. Ryker was a sweet, passionate lover, but there was something dominant, rough about this kiss, something that was more on Khrysaor’s nature than Ryker’s.
My back was pushed against the side of the building, he had one hand on my thigh while the other was on my waist, keeping me upright as if he knew that I would melt into a puddle without his hold. The hand that was softly caressing and squeezing my thigh surely belonged to Ryker but the other one, roughly fondling my breast and pinching my nipple, was without a doubt belonged to Khrysaor.
Just when I thought we would be getting down and dirty in the alley with the rain pouring on our hot, sweaty bodies and the thunder muting our scream of passion, he detached himself away from me. For a split moment, before he bolted out of the alley in lightning speed, I caught sight of his eyes flickering from silver to black to silver as if both Ryker and Khrysaor were fighting over control. I didn’t see his face, I didn’t even have a chance to see him properly but I knew that it was him. I could feel it in his kiss, his touch, and in his presence. I also knew that not a damn soul would believe about this rather odd encounter and that I had to live with a possibility that I could be mad and this all was nothing but my own hallucination. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time in the last two weeks that I’d imagined him being with me, feeling things that weren’t present.
It was late in the afternoon when I’d parked my motorcycle in the garage and took off my helmet. Monday was a busy day but luckily I only worked for a couple of hours especially since my finals would come soon and I’d need time to prepare for them. My boss was more than okay with it — I was guessing that he could tell something was off with me and that I needed some time off. After all, since that odd encounter with Ryker a few days ago, the thought of him and the feel of his touch lingered longer than usual, occupying my thoughts almost every hour of the day. I fondled the keychain that Ryker had once given me before pulling the key out and sticking them inside my pocket. With my backpack slung on one shoulder, I walked through the adjoined door that connected the garage to the packhouse. Surprisingly enough, someone must’ve forgotten to turn on the light because everything was dark. At least for a
It was odd to look my dad in the eye and not recognize him. He looked every bit the same, saved for the beard that he hadn’t had before. There was this haunted look on his face as if he’d seen terror and actually lived it. It made me wonder what had happened these past few months. “Dad?” I greeted him as I stepped into the room and approached him. He looked up and immediately stood from where he was sitting. “Xyrra.” Despite everything else that felt different, the way he called my name hadn’t changed at all. I rushed to him, throwing my arms around him and burying my face in his chest. “Dad.” “I missed you, Sweetie.” He kissed the top of my head and breathed in. “So so much. You have no idea.” I pulled away slightly, my eyes searching for his. “Then why did you leave?” “Because you’re in good hands. Alpha Ryker is a strong man, and I knew he’d protect you no matter what because you’re his mate. With Atlas being uncontrolla

Having my dad around did make it easier, although he was still wary of me. I guessed he was still trying to make peace with the fact that I was a sorceress, someone who was capable of doing malicious, cruel, and unspeakable things. But for the other part that recently discovered a side of me, he was sincerely happy. I could see it in his eyes and felt it whenever he was telling me all sorts of things that a wolf could do and what it meant to be a wolf. In all honesty, I appreciated everything that he taught me. However, I didn’t think I’d like to go through the transforming process even though he’d indeed said that it wou
There was no mark. He hadn’t marked me. He’d bitten and he sucked my blood but that was it. It left me more confused than if he’d marked me. Eros had taken me back to the Ethereal’s packhouse about an hour ago. Despite what I’d told him, he didn’t believe that Ryker had indeed come and that he’d bitten me. The fact that the wound had healed itself by the time Eros had found me on the bathroom floor didn’t help, either. “Why can’t you believe me?” I breathed out and sagged on the couch. “He was there. He bit me and drank my blood. Why else would I be passing out in the bathroom?” “Maybe you had too much to drink.” My best friend annoyingly shrugged and, at this moment, I wanted nothing but to throw something at him. Anything. He seemed to realize that too, as he took a seat next to me and held my hand. “Look, Xy, Ryker is no longer in Europe. The pack at the border saw him leave when he nearly crossed their territory. There was no way that it was Ryker.” E
It took everything in me not to blast my power and erase her existence. A part of me wished that I could turn back time and not see that mark on her shoulder. Perhaps if that was the case, I wouldn’t have to hear her talking about her and Ryker. I wished I could erase that part of my memory so that my chest wouldn’t feel all the pain I was currently feeling. I did my best to shove those aching away and focused on Adelina instead. She could be lying for all I knew. It was possible that she’d simply had rough sex with a wolf that wasn’t Ryker and she’d only said that to piss me off because she knew she couldn’t possibly fight me and win. My thoughts must be apparent on my face because the next second Adelina opened her mouth and informed me all the details about her so-called night with Ryker. “He’s big, I have to say. I thought I wouldn’t be able to handle him.” Adelina let out a small giggle, which didn’t suit her at all as she was fifteen years older than any school girl. “But d
I shoved that thought away. It was lucidly impossible. My dad had told me what had happened that night. There had been at least a dozen of the Erebus’s members who witnessed my mother’s body being torn apart. Then there were those ladies who’d cleaned her body for burial, too. Hell, my dad was going to take me to her grave this weekend. The book must have been wrong, or there was another witch named Gaia Delvaux that wasn’t my mother. Once I calmed myself down, I continued searching for any information about ‘Mad Wolf’ that I eventually stumbled upon one page that was filled with the Greek alphabet, albeit there was only one paragraph in it. There wasn’t a single Latin word on this page. Mad Wolf is a rare, mythical disease that will drive the wolf crazy to the point where he/she will eat their mate and then die upon the realization of what they’d done. This disease was caused by the Sword of Damocles. I picked up my phone again and searched for a
Dmitry rarely called my name, but when he’d done it, there hadn’t been any emotion there, almost as if an AI was told to pronounce my name. Yet this time, he did it so softly and with his hand touching my face; I had to admit that I was shitting my pants right now. My mind kept telling me that this was Dmitry and Dmitry Vashkov was more like a walking robot than a human being. I recovered from the shock quicker than if it was Ryker who was in such close proximity to me and I had to assume that it was because Dmitry wasn’t my mate. “As in a prince of a wolf nation or something?” I pulled back a little and frowned. My mind speedily caught up on the issue that I’d been wanting to ask about for days now. This time, it wasn’t about Dmitry. It was about me. “Then would you be able to explain why my wolf showed up one time then disappeared to god knows where?” “Not exactly,” he said after a short while. “When was the last time you shifted?” “Since
Two years later . . . I packed up my things one more time, putting the Book of the Damned into my satchel along with some spare clothes that I’d brought with me when I’d left the packhouse two years ago. My wolf truly hadn’t come out ever since the first time I’d shifted which helped me a lot in covering the fact that I was half a wolf and half a sorceress. Thank goodness none of the witches, warlocks, and faes had a super smell either. I’d managed to find a sorceress named Deidre who taught me a lot about runes, spells, potions, and charms. She was the only person around here who knew that I had the Book of the Damned in my possession and did not want to steal it. She’d even warned me about how dangerous it was and to use it with extra caution. I slung the strap on my shoulder and looked up to meet Deidre’s blue eyes. “Do you think I’m r

Dear Gentle Readers, How art thou? I am mostly exhausted right now. But it is totally worth it. Can you believe that this story has finally come to an end? I would like to say a massive thank you for the support that you all have given to this book and other books. Your love and support have always been the key success of this story. Reading your comments, your reviews, and your anticipation for the next chapters have driven me to write and complete these two books: Taming The Wild Alpha and Mad Wolf. It is certainly possible that I will write another book to this “supposedly-duo-logy” and turned it into a “trilogy” instead (I dare say that I am most tempted to do it now, to be honest). After all, even though this book has no massive readership amount like my other book (aka Taming The Wild CEO), I interact more with all of you here in the comment section of this book and also on social media (I still get excited like a kid on Christmas morning every time I get a direct message fro
Even though Ryker seemed alright and that his wound had truly healed, I still urged him to check into the hospital the next day. I knew people would think I was being ridiculous especially since I was a sorceress so I should believe in magical things but still, I didn’t want to take any chances. Not when it came to him. After breakfast Dmitry was taking him to the hospital for a medical check up. While they were gone, I went back to our room which was previously Ryker’s room, and sat on the sofa by the window. There were still a lot of things to figure out and right now, all I wanted was to talk with Seymour. ‘Well, I am right here.’ It was clear as the sky above that the more I used the magic, the more it took a toll on both of us, more to Seymour than me which was why she hadn’t shown herself for ages. I vaguely recalled what Seymour had said to me that night, “Magic might not take a toll directly on you but it does on me.” ‘It definitely did. Look, the only reason I came bac
X Y R R A ’ S P O V There was a time in someone’s life where they realized that they hit rock bottom. Some people would cry, regret things that they’d done in the past, and succumb to depression. However, there were people who had a different perspective about it and told themselves, ‘I hit rock bottom, there’s nothing worse than this, so I’m gonna fight no matter what the outcomes because worst case scenario, it can’t get worse than this but on the other hand, best case scenario, I might come on top’. Reading the scrolls that Alpha Damien had shown me, I knew that this was my rock bottom right here. Everything he’d said was the truth. The cure for the Mad Wolf disease was ‘love’. One simple word that could be described in thousands, perceived differently by every person on Earth, and certainly wasn’t a tangible thing to begin with. Hence my current predicament. As the Elderlies — a group of people who’d studied Greek ancient history for decades — were looking for more informatio
Xyrra’s POV It took us two solid hours to get to the border between the North and the West. Dmitry had informed our patrol beforehand that we were going to come through so the three wolves that were there merely gave us a nod and let us pass. Obviously, the issue wasn’t our own patrol but it was whether the Night Walkers’ patrol would let us pass. They would see us as a threat the second we crossed their borders especially since we had no appointment with them. I did ask Ryker and Dmitry whether we should alert the Night Walkers beforehand but they both said that it was best for us to come there this instant and worry about the rest later because, unlike the Erebus who might accept a courtesy phone call, the Night Walkers chose to live in solitude and the only time we would ever come across them was during a yearly Alpha meeting. As soon as Ryker, Eros, Dmitry, and I crossed the small river that was supposedly divided the North from the West, three wolves literally jumped into our p
Ryker’s Standpoint While everyone was resting, I made my way out of the back door and walked toward the lake. Each step I took almost felt like the last time I’d been here. They were all so familiar. Being here right now felt familiar and yet horrifying at the same time because I knew that I wasn’t truly fine. I knew it like the back of my hand that I could flip any time. Looking down, I held the ring on my finger with my thumb and forefinger, rolling it on my ring finger. This thing albeit small had literally kept me sane. The real question was: for how long? How much longer before I truly lost it? How much time do I have left? I could tell that currently, the magic was leaking quicker than it had before judging by how frequently Xyrra needed to infuse more spells into it. She might not tell me but I could tell. It was only a matter of time before this thing could no longer hold the madness inside my head anymore and I feared that that day might happen sooner than I would’ve wante
Fortunately, there was no hiccup in our journey back to the North. The weather seemed to be in our favor as well which was a blessing really since England’s sky could have the most horrific weather possible. I hadn’t informed Dmitry or Trish or Miles simply because I wanted it to be a surprise. I parked my motorcycle in front of the packhouse and took off my helmet. I swung my leg and stood by my bike as I waited for the boys. Ryker’s car came to view and he parked right next to my bike. Eros’s black sports car joined us a mere seconds later. They both got out of the car but only Ryker was following me to the porch. I turned around and eyed my best friend, feeling rather confused. “Er, are you not coming with us inside?” He shook his head, still dangling around his car. I turned to Ryker. “You go in first. I’ll talk to him before joining you in a wee bit.” Ryker gave me a pat on the shoulder. “Wish me luck. I hope they would let me speak first before jumping on me or shooting me

I wasn’t about to leave my baby alone here in London. Their second suggestion was to let either Ryker or Eros ride my motorcycle while I rode in their car. I also declined that one so in the end, both Ryker and Eros brought their car while I rode my baby. We made a stop in the motel along the way. At first, I thought that we all would cramp into one bedroom but Eros, who had gone to the receptionist and made the arrangement, came back with two keys. He tossed one key to Ryker and winked at me before heading toward his own room. “Enjoy your early honeymoon, mates!” he teased u
