Emma’s heart was thumping hard as she ran through the thick forest, the tall trees casting a shade over her. She had been searching for her boyfriend Tommy Sanders since morning. He had taken a walk after breakfast and not returned. Tommy occasionally took lone walks in the forest, but he had never taken that long to return. The sun was setting and he was still nowhere to be seen. Emma had a very bad feeling about it but decided to stay strong.

Emma called out Tommy’s name repeatedly, but there was no response. The dense forest was silent as a grave. All that could be heard was her and Richard’s steps as they ran through the woods. As Emma neared a clearing, her worst fears began to take shape. She smelled his blood at a distance, and noticed a shape of a human on the ground as she ran towards that direction. Emma increased her spread and was soon at the spot.

Tommy was lying still on the leafy ground, his eyes closed with dried blood all over his hair and chest. Emma felt to her knees beside the body and let out a bloodcurdling scream that echoed through the forest. Tears cascaded down her face as she tried to wake him, despite knowing the efforts were useless. She pulled out the sharp stake that had been buried into his chest and sat down, wailing. Richard started looking around the place while Emma stared at Tommy’s lifeless body.

He had been the only family she had left, and now he was gone. Emma’s parents had been killed by vampires five years ago and Tommy’s pack had taken her in before it was conquered by a rival alpha who ruled with an iron fist. Two years ago, the two had run away from the pack because of their love for freedom and hatred for authoritarianism. In the past two years, they had lived as rogues, moving from place to place, enjoying life one day at a time.

For the first time in years, Emma felt truly alone. She had met up with other rogues and they had formed a small group of eight. She liked the other members but the relationships with all of them were nothing like what she had with Tommy. He had been her world.

Her heart broke when she thought of all the plans they had made together. It was hard for her to believe that he was really gone, never to be seen again. She leaned down and kissed his bruised lips. The lips that had been warm and soft were now cold and hard. She straightened up and touched his skin.

“What am I going to do without you, Tommy?”

Richard went and crouched next to her. “I’m so sorry, Emma.”

Emma leaned on him and he placed a hand around her. “I have lost everything, Richard. How am I supposed to live now?”

“I know it’s not the same but you have us,” Richard said. “We will always be here for you.”

Emma stayed silent. The other members of the group arrived and expressed their shock after seeing the body. Alison, a girl who had been trying to seduce Tommy at every turn went and knelt beside his body while wailing.

Seeing that made Emma angry but she didn’t want to cause a scene so she stood up and went to sit on a tree trunk, a few meters away. She sat down and placed her head on her lap, sobbing the whole time.

Ten minutes later, Richard went where she was.

“We have to bury him,” he said. “Whoever killed him must be near. We must bury him as soon as possible and leave this place before they come for us.”

“We can’t just leave him here,” Emma said. “We have to go with his body to wherever we are going.”

“It’s really heavy and it may be too risky. We can’t.”

“I’ll carry him. I can’t leave him here. I can’t bury him right now. If you want, you can leave but I’m not going anywhere. I will kill the person who did this to him.”

“I don’t think that would be a good idea,” Richard said.

“I don’t care. You guys can leave.”

“You’re not the only one who loved him, you know.” Alison said, approaching them. “We all loved and cared for Tommy. We are very sad that he is gone, but there’s nothing we can do now. I wish we could bring him back to life but we can’t. We have to bury him and leave before it’s too late.”

“Really?” Emma said, standing up.

She walked up to Alison and slapped her hard, across the face. Alison gasped and touched her cheek. Seething, she charged at Emma who didn’t hesitate to fight back. Richard grabbed her body and pulled her back while Dylan did the same to Alison.

“What’s wrong with you two?” Richard asked. “This is not the time to fight.”

“You have no idea what Tommy and I have been through. You have known him for only three months, but I’ve known him for five years. For five years, Tommy and I have been inseparable so you have no right to tell me how I should react to his death. If you’re all scared, you are free to leave. I’m staying right here with him, and I will bury him wherever I feel like. I don’t need your help.”

“Emma, I know-

“Shut up, Richard. All of you leave me alone.”

“Well, I’m not going to stay where I’m not needed,” Alison said, starting to walk away. “Are you guys coming or not?”

The other guys started following her.

“I’m going to get your belongings from the camp,” Richard said. “I’ll bring them to you.”

“Thank you so much, Richard. Could you bring his stuff too?”

Richard nodded before following the others. Emma went and sat next to her boyfriend and continued sobbing while asking herself what she was going to do without him.

Suddenly, she heard a movement. She looked around quickly.

“Richard, is that you?”

Silence reigned. Panicked, Emma slowly stood up.

A minute later, she heard the voices of her friends including Alison. She turned her head and saw them heading towards her with their backpacks and the tents they had been using it for their makeshift residence.“We’ve agreed to stay here for the night,” Richard said. “You need some time to mourn and think of what would be the best for Tommy. We couldn’t just leave you here alone. If there’s any danger, we will face it together. I’m sure Tommy would have wanted us to stick together.”“Thank you so much,” Emma said, feeling grateful. “I know you guys are risking a lot by being here but I’m really glad you decided to stay. I was getting really scared.”“Well, if we die, you’ll rot in hell knowing it was because of your stubbornness.” Alison said. Emma sighed and decided it was best to ignore her. Emma.Emma slowly opened her eyes, groaning as her head felt like it was about to crack open. As her vision came to focus, she noticed that she was lying on the cold floor inside a strong metallic cage. She looked around her surroundings, and realised she was in some kind of basement, a dungeon to be specific. Several cages were scattered throughout the room. Emma saw her colleagues in the cages, each in their own. While the rest were still unconscious, Alison was conscious. She was braiding her blonde hair. She barely acknowledged Emma.Emma tried to get up but her body was very weak. The smell of silver in the air was enough to make her notice that the chains attached to her wrists were made of silver. Because silver weakened werewolves, she couldn’t break free. It seemed like the silver chains were drawing all her strength. Her legs were weak and she could tell they wouldn’t be able to support her. She touched the metal bars of the cage and tried to rattle it. The cage did not shak

He was feeling a deep sadness and emptiness inside him that he neither understood nor liked. He knew that when you rejected your mate, you would feel a lot of pain. Since she had not accepted the rejection, the pain was still mild. The breaking process of the bond was the painful.Axel was prepared to deal with it. He couldn’t be with a rogue, much less make one his luna. No matter what other people said, Axel was convinced rogues wouldn’t change. They lived under their own rules and only cared about themselves. Having a sense of community grounded people. People who wer

For some reason, Andrea took a deep breath before walking away.“You’re lucky it is lunch time, slave.” Andrea told Richard as she walked towards her friend. “You can all break off,” Andrea told them.Everyone relaxed. “Let’s go under that tree,” Richard told Emma and they went to sit under one of the trees at the edge of the clearing on the lower end. Emma followed him and they sat on the grass.“I thought she was going to kill you,” Emma confessed. “That was brave, and a bit stupid if I may add. Alison already hates me. If Andrea had killed you because of me, I’m pretty sure Alison would definitely kill me.”Two women walked into the clearing with dishes and plates. They camped near Andrea and her friend, then started serving the food. “I’m starving,” Richard complained.A while later, the food was brought to them. The food was rice and black beans. Emma. Emma could barely sleep that night. She kept thinking of the possibility of escaping and couldn’t wait to get alone time with Richard so she could tell him all about it. Telling everyone at once was too risky. Emma was sure she could trust Richard with the secret. If they had to tell the others, it would be when the plan was in the final stages so that there would be fewer chances of them jinxing it. The others were sleeping soundly, their breathing slow and even. It was understandable after the hectic day they had all had. None of them was used to doing manual labour, and their introduction to it hadn’t been an easy one. Emma was thankful they had been given soft mats to sleep on unlike the previous night when they slept on the cold floor. Tired as she was, Emma couldn’t stop thinking about the tunnels. Axel. Axel was lost in thought. He was seated at the edge of his bed, staring at the cream coloured wall before him. For years, he had been sleeping with numerous women, enjoying all the pleasures they had to offer. But now, he had almost no interest in the women with him. One of them was lying on the bed, her body wrapped around the sheets. She was as beautiful as ever with a pretty face and brown curly hair. When he first saw her at Black Moon pack, he had sworn he had to have her. Now, he didn’t feel like being intimate with her at all. The thought made him cringe. Ever since he had rejected his mate, he seemed to have lost interest in most of the things he enjoyed, including sex. It was the one thing that had fulfilled him before but now he didn’t want to think about it. He was pretty sure that it would not help him get rid of the emptiness and sadness he felt inside. The evening was calm. A gentle breeze carried the sweet smelling scents of different flowers, spreading it all over the garden. Emma’s heart was filled with delight as she strolled through the garden next to her favourite person. The garden was filled with daises, roses, and tulips among other flowers, creating a very colourful scene. This matched with Emma’s mood which was cheerful. With her hand in his, they walked along the cobblestone path, letting their hearts speak to each other.Lucius was telling Emma about his childhood. He narrated to her about funny adventures he and his friends had engaged in while in the garden. As he showed her different places, she felt like she was reliving his childhood with him, and it strengthened their connection.“What?” Lucius suddenly said and stopped walking. He seemed to be listening to someone via mind link. Since Emma had been integrated to the park, she was now able to mind link with other pack members. After the mating process, she and Luc

Two days later…It was a beautiful morning. The sun rising and the atmosphere was becoming warmer each passing minute. The large dining room in the pack house was a hub of activity with many of the pack members having their breakfast. Casey and Emma were enjoying their hearty meal in one of the best tables while Michelle was in a corner downing her food as fast as she could so she could get out of there. Her position as Luna had not been officially taken away from her but everyone knew that she was no longer the alphas mate and no longer respected her. Even her former best friend Janet did not want to be associated with her. She claimed it was because Michelle tried to kill Emma, but everyone knew that she had never been a true friend to Michelle. She had been in it for the benefits which was understandable. Michelle was very hard to love.“I wonder why she doesn’t just leave,” Casey said referring to Michelle. “No one wants her here, including her family.”“Be nice,” Emma reprimande

Emma woke up with a jolt. When he eyes shot open, she looked around the strange room which reeked of herbs and medicine. She was sweating so much that her entire blouse was wet. Her head felt heavy. She closed her eyes and thought of the last thing she remembered which was Michelle wriggling in pain on the floor. Her hand instinctively moved to her chest where there had been a wound. It had healed. She didn’t understand why Michelle had also been in pain. The only reasonable answer was that a witch had linked them so that Michelle would also die if she killed Emma. Could Casey have done it?Emma lay awake for a few minutes, not bothering to get up because she could feel that her body was still very weak. Whatever Michelle had used to try to murder her must have been very strong. She was about to drift off to sleep when she heard voices. The people they belonged to where still far because she couldn’t make them out clearly.Suddenly, a sweet-smelling scent wafted into the room. It was

Lucius didn’t like having to cut down indigenous trees but the pack needed more land for a meat processing plant. The town was not developing fast enough and they had decided to start industrializing more as a development strategy. There were a lot of untapped opportunities that he was sure would improve the lives of his pack and the neighbouring packs if implemented. The humans were progressing very fast and it was best for them to do the same. If they stayed backward for long, the humans would try to come and take over the land.Lucius was not afraid of what the humans would try to do to them. He was worried there would be too much unnecessary bloodshed. If they developed their town, the humans would not see the need to try to do it for them.Lucius was talking to some council members under a tent when he started to feel a kind of pain he had never experienced before. He almost screamed out when it hit but he had to stay strong since he was the alpha. Under no circumstances was he a

The house was empty and quiet. It was also fairly cool. Michelle was happy to lead the guard to one of the rooms on the ground floor. She had linked her arm with his and that was enough for him to forget all about his job and follow her like a puppy. As soon as they entered the room, Michelle started kissing him. He kissed him back, going fast as if he had been craving her lips for the longest time possible. The kiss disgusted Michelle because she had no interest in the man but she had to bear with it. She was a woman on a mission and this time, she didn’t want to stop until she had achieved her goal. With Emma in the pack, Michelle knew that she would never be happy no matter how she tried. Soon, Lucius would divorce her and that would turn her into a ‘nobody’. The whole pack would no longer be afraid to make fun of her in public. She knew they humiliated her in private, saying all kinds of mean things behind her back. Because she was the luna, they could never say it to her face. I

When Michelle heard Lucius leaving in the middle of the night, she knew he was going to see Emma. She felt the bile in her throat and got up from the bed. She went to her closet and opened a jewellery box. Underneath a necklace was a key. She removed the key and went back to the bedroom. Squatting, she inserted the key into the bottom drawer and twisted it. She pulled the drawer open and stared at the box inside it. Grabbing the box, Michelle stood up straight and went to put it on the bed. She sat down and opened the box.She removed the dagger inside it and stared at it. There was a vial of a certain poison in the box as well. Michelle placed the dagger back in the box and returned it to where it had come from before locking up. This time, she didn’t take the key back to the closet. She placed it under the mattress.Michelle went back to bed and pulled out her phone. She went to the contacts and deleted Axel’s number. When Emma woke up, she was lying on a bed and it was dark. Slowly, the memory of Lucius injecting her came to her mind. She sat up and looked around the dark room. It was better than most of the rooms in the pack house. Where was she? She slowly got up from the bed and went to the window. She pulled the curtains aside and looked outside. She was not shocked to notice she was in the cottage Michelle had almost killed her in. she sighed and went to turn on the light before trying to open the door. Emma’s heart started racing when she realised that it was locked. She banged on it as loud as she could.“Hello? Lucius’s jawline complimented his sharp features increasing the magnetic charm of his blue eyes. Every step he took was effortless and graceful.Emma glanced at the man walking beside Lucius. He was impressively tall and looked very athletic. Unlike Lucius, this man had long, wavy hair that cascaded down the sides of his face. “This is she?” the man said, approaching Emma. “You were right. A few minutes later, Emma was trudging through the silent forest with five strange men. She had pleaded countless times for them to reveal the person behind their operation but they refused. The other three men who had shot Axel and his counterparts had joined the two who had captured her and were chatting away about things related to their pack whose name she hadn’t been told. She didn’t dare run from the men because it was pointless. They would catch her within a minute. Besides, annoying them would not make things better for all those involved. When they came out of the forest, two black cars were waiting. Having given up on escape, Emma got into one. She could only hope she was not being taken to someone who hated her like Michelle.
