Scott’s derisive snort was crystal clear, even over the phone. “Hello to you too, Ricci. What are you so disturbingly chipper about?”

I was feeling disturbingly chipper. For the first time in what felt like ever, everything was perfect. I finally felt like I had control over my own life. My household was safe, I was going to marry the love of my life next June, I’d further solidified myself as the mafia king of Philly by eliminating my biggest enemies, and by the end of the day, I would have finally, finally, tied up the final loose knots.
