53: Unexpected Gifts

A light rap on the door steered me out of the afternoon nap I was beginning to enjoy.

"Come in", I croaked, expecting to see Sara waddle in. One of the maids, whom I recognised as Mia, walked into the room.

"Good afternoon, miss. An Elder from the Council wants to see you. He said it's quite urgent. " She paused as if just realising I had been sleeping. "I had no idea you were asleep," she said apologetically

"No, it's fine. I wasn't that deep asleep." I waved off the apology and sat up on the bed.

An Elder?

I reeled back to the faces Kai had shown me at the chamber at the amphitheatre and tried to make out who exactly wanted to see me. And why was he around?

Mia left quickly as soon as I told her I would come downstairs.

I donned loose pants and a t-shirt packing my hair into a lazy bun, wondering who interfered with my now routined siesta. I didn't see Mia around nor did I see the Elder when I got to the living room and I almost let out a yelp of frustration. A mop of brown
