Chapter 9

Author: Celebrant
Leonardo's question sounded strange to me. Did he really think I would choose him over the businesses? Did he really believe I would still want to be with him?

I frowned and nodded. "That's right. I want those businesses. I only want money."

Leonardo's expression turned awkward at my words.

He frowned, and then he said with a pained expression, "Alicia, back then… I misunderstood both you and your mother. I thought your mother only kept me in your household because she wanted to find someone to inherit your family's businesses.

"I carried that resentment in my heart, believing you had used me and burdened me with a responsibility I never asked for. Later, when your mom forced me to be with you, I felt like you had trapped me in this relationship, forcing me to work like a servant for your family.

"Then the Leonhart family found me and took me back. Back then, I merged all your family's businesses with theirs. Now that we're separating, untangling those assets would be complicated.

That night, I attended the pack banquet. The main reason was to network and expand my resources. Now that I was running my own business, I had to start from scratch, and building connections was essential. Throughout the banquet, many people came over to greet me, and I responded with polite smiles.Just then, I noticed Leonardo, who was surrounded by a group of people, deep in conversation. Somehow, it was as if he had eyes in the back of his head. He managed to spot me through the crowd. The moment he saw me, he immediately pushed past the people around him and strode straight toward me."Alicia, I want to announce to everyone here that you are my true Luna."I stared at him coldly and yanked my hand free from his grasp. I said indifferently, "Please, I have no intention to be your Luna. I didn't come to this banquet for you."At that moment, a noble approached, hoping to strike up a conversation with me. Leonardo immediately wrapped an arm around my waist and introduced, "This

Isabella stepped in front of me, her eyes full of resentment. Clenching her jaw, she glared at me viciously."Alicia, why does everyone love you? Mom adored you. Now, even Leonardo is constantly circling around you. What makes you better than me?"Why am I always the one left behind? First, Mom chose you and abandoned me, and now Leonardo is doing the same!"Upon hearing this, I couldn't hold it in and burst into a fit of laughter. Back when Mom left, it was Isabella who chose to follow Dad to the neighboring pack to enjoy her status as a noble. And now, somehow, this was my fault?I met her gaze coldly and said, "Isabella, have you forgotten? You were the one who begged to go with Dad back then. Now, you're blaming me?"Isabella's face remained icy, her voice dripping with resentment. "I don't care who I'm with. What I hate is how everyone always chooses you, how they treat me like a joke!"I lost to you when it came to our parents, but I'll never let you take Leonardo from me!

Isabelle paled instantly. She had been so caught up in her own triumph that she had completely forgotten—the crystal pendant around my neck had a recording function.I amplified the sound, making sure everyone in the room heard the disgusting lies she had just told. Isabella's complexion turned ghostly white, and she clung desperately to Leonardo's hand."Leonardo, I… I admit it. I did lie to you, but it's because I love you so much! I was afraid that Alicia would steal you away, so I lied to make you stay."I only did it because I love you deeply. I'm scared of losing you. Leonardo, you can't blame me for that!"Leonardo stood there, dumbstruck. His eyes turned red. "So… it wasn't you who convinced your parents to save me back then?"Isabella's pale lips trembled, but she said nothing. That silence was an answer in itself.Leonardo suddenly looked as if he had aged ten years. Then, with a violent shove, he pushed Isabella away. She stumbled backward, falling straight onto the s

A month later, a drunk Leonardo barged into my villa. The moment he entered, he collapsed to his knees, sobbing uncontrollably."Alicia, I was wrong. I was so wrong. I only now realize what kind of person Isabella truly is. I was a fool to be deceived by her for so many years."Please, Alicia. Forgive me. I won't contact her ever again. I won't give her any resources anymore."I looked at Leonardo, but my heart felt nothing. I said coldly, "Whether you regret it or not has nothing to do with me.""But please forgive me! I've learned my lesson!" Leonardo crawled toward me on his knees, clutching the hem of my dress as he sobbed. "From now on, I will treat you well. I swear. Just say the word, and I'll do anything!"I looked at him and chuckled. "You want me to forgive you? Leonardo, do you not understand? Every time I see you, I think of Jack."His face drained of all color immediately. "I…"I pushed him aside coldly. "There's no way I'll ever forgive you unless you can bring Jac

Before my son took his last breath, he told me he wanted to go see the Barnum & Bailey Circus with his father. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't find my husband. I could only watch helplessly as my son passed away with unfinished dreams. After handling his funeral, I returned home. That was when I saw Alpha Leonardo, return to the castle with Isabella in his arms.Isabella leaned weakly against him and purred softly, "Leo, thank you for letting me stay at your place and taking me to the doctor. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have made it to the doctor with such a severe leg injury."Leonardo gazed at her indulgently and replied gently, "We're a family. Don't worry about it."I watched as Leonardo carried Isabella into the guest room and then knelt in front of her, carefully inspecting her injury. Bitterness welled up in me as I took in the sight.I remembered how I once cried in pain after a bad fall during a hike. However, all Leonardo did was cast me a cold glance an

"Hah, so you actually packed your bags this time? Trying to leave home just to get my attention? At least you're showing some action instead of just running your mouth like before. Guess you finally learned something."Leonardo's voice dripped with mockery as he watched me drag my suitcase toward the door. He thought I was jealous and that I was only claiming I wanted to leave to provoke a reaction from him.I shook my head, not bothering to explain. Just thinking about Jack sent a dull ache through my heart.Three months ago, he had been bitten by a rogue in the forest and was infected with a deadly strain of wolfbane poison. His condition only worsened over time.He was sent to the healers countless times, his life hanging by a thread time and time again—so often that the city's herbalists all remembered his name.Jack missed his father terribly, repeatedly telling me, "Mom, I really wish Dad would come see me."I notified Leonardo through mind-link, but he had blocked me. So,

Leonardo, who had just moments ago felt a hint of guilt for missing his promise, instantly turned to glare at me angrily. He stepped in front of Isabella protectively like a mother hen shielding her chick and snapped at me."Alicia, that's enough! How can you hit Bella? She's your sister, for goodness sake!""I can ignore your insults, but if you dare to slander Jack, I won't show you any mercy!" I retorted, shooting a warning glare at Isabella. She sniffled beside him, putting on her pitiful act. She let out a soft, trembling whimper. "Leo, my face hurts…"Leonardo carefully stroked her face, turned to stare at me, and coldly said, "Jack was never sick in the first place. Is there a point for you to pretend that he's on death's door every day? "And you, where were you last night? You never came home. Which wolf were you fooling around with this time?"A laugh slipped Isabella's mouth. She then clung to Leonardo's arm, sniffling dramatically."Leo, don't misunderstand Alicia. I

Leonardo immediately turned to Isabella, his voice full of concern as he asked. "Bella, are you okay?"Isabella collapsed into his arms, leaning against him as if she were too weak to stand. She pointed at the clear handprint on her cheek. Her voice trembled with grievance as she whined pitifully, "It hurts so much. Alicia struck me so hard that my face is swollen! It hurts!"The red mark stood out vividly, and Leonardo's heart ached just looking at it. As I watched this scene unfold, a childhood memory suddenly resurfaced in my mind.I had once been playing in the garden when I tripped and fell, scraping my palms on the ground. I was in so much pain that I cried loudly.Back then, Leonardo had gently lifted me up, wiped away my tears, and comforted me while bandaging my wound. And now? The difference between how he treated me and Isabella was night and day.I took a deep breath, buried my past memories, and looked at them coldly.Leonardo shot me a sharp glare and commanded,

Leonardo grabbed the items and rushed out without hesitation. He went straight to the most powerful oracle in the pack. And the oracle used magic to verify the truth. The next morning, at the crack of dawn, he appeared at the villa's entrance and seized my hand. He looked haggard, with his face covered in stubble and his eyes bloodshot. He seemed exhausted.Clutching the hem of my dress, he sobbed softly. "Alicia, I'm sorry. I was wrong. I know I was wrong. I shouldn't have listened to Isabella and doubted Jack's lineage."Yesterday, I went back and found an old childhood photo of mine… Jack looked just like me when I was his age. He really was my son… "How could I have doubted him? How could I have been so cruel? I don't deserve to be a father. I deserve to die!" As he spoke, he raised his hand and slapped himself hard across the face. The force was so strong that blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. It was pathetic and laughable to see him behave like that.So now, wh

Before I could say anything more, Leonardo shot me a cold glare as he demanded, "Alicia, tell me the truth. Is Jack really my child?"I was dumbfounded. I had been with Leonardo for so many years. My entire world revolved around him.Other than him, I had no other male friends. If he wasn't Jack's father, who could it possibly be?Upon seeing my silence, his fury deepened, and then he said through gritted teeth, "You don't dare to answer, do you? So it seems my suspicion was right!"His voice dripped with resentment as he scoffed, "Alicia, you're something else. You raised another man's child and even wanted me to take him to the circus. What do you take me for?"Just then, a Beta guard walked in and handed him a letter. It was from a guard from the Leonhart family. Whenever Isabella needed him, she would send messages like this.Leonardo glanced at the letter's contents and, without another word, rushed out without bothering to finish the conversation with me. I watched as his f

"What did you say?" Leonardo's eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at the steward. "Say that again!"The steward lowered his head and replied, "Jack has passed away. Here are the funeral documents and cemetery information…"Leonardo's body trembled as he looked at the papers in the steward's hands. He shook his head, muttering to himself, "That's impossible… I saw Jack before. He was fine. How could this happen…"I furrowed my brows and roared angrily at him, "When did you ever see Jack? You haven't visited him for almost two years!"Leonardo froze, guilt flickering across his face. He was at a complete loss for words. He reached out to wipe my tears, but I slapped his hand away.I glared at him coldly. "Don't touch me!"Leonardo took a deep breath, his voice softening. "Alicia, I know you're angry. You can hit me, yell at me, whatever you need—but please, don't push me away like this."I stared at him and suddenly found it laughable. Jack was gone. What was there left for u

With his hands behind his back, Leonardo looked down at me with an icy gaze. "You can get up after apologizing to Bella."I gritted my teeth and spat back, "Forget it! I'll never apologize! I won't do it even if you keep me on my knees for the rest of my life!"Leonardo's brows furrowed, his sharp glare burning into me as if he wanted to tear me apart. He took a deep breath, visibly suppressing his anger, and then spoke coldly, "Then stay down forever."With that, he sat down on the sofa with one leg crossed over the other and watched with indifference.Isabella sat down right beside him, massaging his shoulders as she spoke softly, "Leo, just let it go. I'm sure Alicia didn't mean it."Leonardo took her hand and said affectionately, "You're still as kind as you were back then. You've always treated her like a sister, but she has never seen you as one."Isabella blushed, lowering her head into his embrace. I watched them, feeling nothing but amusement. Oh, Leonardo… even now, he
