SELENA'S POV:
A FEW WEEKS LATER: “We are here Miss Selena.” The chauffeur announced, finally making me aware of my surroundings. It had been about two weeks since I had been heartbroken, divorced and I lost everything, and two weeks since I turned twenty-one. It was worth reckoning because that night, my family's lawyer, Mr George, who had been our lawyer since I was a kid informed me that in the multitude of properties, companies, money, that my parents had left for me, my grandmother and parents had still set up a trust fund for me. And that was his surprise for me. As soon as I told him what had gone on between David and I, he had sent cars to pick me up and during those few days, he and his wife, Miss Daisy, had been so good to me, they never scolded me but I have learned a great lesson. We finalized the documents and I received everything secured for me in the trust fund, deeds to property and one of my mother's company, as well as a handsome amount of money. They were all located in Resiph, about a six hours flight away from here and after so much wallowing in my pain, I realized I needed to get up and start my life all over again but I needed to do one thing. I needed to meet with Henry Scott, Sandra's fiancé. Did he know Sandra was cheating on him? Was it in all their plans to use me for my kindness? Why didn't he come for Sandra? I was curious and I needed to know, in order to turn over the chapter and move on. Before traveling here, I had gone to the house, I had to sneak into my own house with David, with the help of Maria who had helped me enter while they were gone. I grabbed a few documents, my birth certificate and some pictures of my parents and a few of my other belongings in my box. While I was about to leave searching for my car key, Sandra and David barged in holding each other along with a whole lot of shopping bags from various designer stores. I froze in fear and my heart hurt when I saw the two of them. The rage in David’s eye at the sight of me, had me wishing the floor just opened up and swallowed me. He laughed and licked his lips sharply, “Where do you think you’re going with all of that?” He rushed towards me and snatched the box for me, “Have you forgotten what I told you? This belongs to me, you fool! And right now do you know what I plan to do? Burn this!” He rushed outside and I followed behind him begging, not because of the clothes in the box but because of my photo album inside. “David please don't do this” I pleaded and tried to grab the box but he aggressively pushed me to the concrete floor and Sandra happily handed him the lighter. “DAVID, A WHOLE OF PICTURES OF MY PARENTS ARE IN THERE!” He simply mimicked my words, lighting it up and Sandra happily did the same and suggested going to bring more my ‘trash’. In an attempt to hit him in anger , I only got thrown to the floor again and Sandra laughed, calling me ‘pathetic’. “I’ve been looking for ways to divorce you or just kill you, I have been so happy since you left. So don’t you dare bring your disgusting self or I will kill you, I put that on your grandmother’s grave.” So I left with the documents, birth certificate and just a picture of my parents and I as well another little picture of my grandmother that I had saved and nothing else, with my heart full of pain and mind disturbed by their words and actions. However, I had discovered Henry Scott resided in Resiph as well, which was great in a way since I was starting my life here and I had arrived last night. I booked an appointment with him, which was right now, scheduled around five. I'm pretty certain I was one of the last people he was meeting with. “Thank you.” I appreciated my new chauffeur, Waters, and hopped out of the black white Mercedes-Benz, dragging down my royal blue gown which hugged my curves like a glove, hiding all my bruises and scars. I straightened my hair and let it down, and applied light makeup. I felt pretty before leaving my house but with the stairs from the employees who were already heading out, I wasn't sure anymore. The receptionist stared at me for a whole sixty seconds with a facial expression I couldn't read, before directing me to the top floor for my meeting with their CEO. I couldn't help but feel nervous as I stood in the elevator and it had nothing to do with the man in a black leather jacket who kept tapping his feet repeatedly and pulling his fingers. Was he as nervous as I was? We both went our separate ways without uttering a word to each other and I headed to the secretary's desk. “I'm here for my meeting with Henry Scott. Selena Brown.” It felt weird saying my maiden surname, and not David's. “Right this way, Miss Brown.” She had a polite smile on her face, as she directed me into the office. His office was luxurious, wide and cool as it was warm outside. It had such a calming atmosphere and when we stepped in, he was staring out at the city with a cup of coffee in his hand. “Sir, your five o clock is here.” She announced and he turned around, instantly locking eyes with me. We stared at each other for what felt like forever, but his stare was intense, it was like he was staring into my soul so I cleared my throat and looked away. “Thank you, Elsa.” He appreciated and she cleared her throat, shutting the door. “You are beautiful.” He blurted out, gazing at me with the most intense gaze ever. I stood in my spot like I got stuck and scratched the back of my neck awkwardly feeling my cheeks turning a light shade of red at the compliment. He thought I was beautiful? I thought he was a beautiful man as well but unlike him, I'd never say it out loud. I had seen pictures of him and he looked good but standing before him, with the sunset rays on his amazingly crafted face with white shirt sleeve rolled up, I was amazed. This had to be the most handsome man I had ever laid my eyes on. He took a seat and smiled, mesmerising me further as he looked ten times better with a smile on his face. “Are you going to stand there, beautiful or would you like to have a seat?” His voice was deep yet soothing and the way my name rolled out his tongue sent shivers through my spine. Stay focused, Selena. This isn't what you are here for. I took a seat and heaved out a breath, trying to ignore his eyes burning holes through my face. “I am Selena Brown, daughter of Christian Brown. And ex-best friend of Sandra Keith. Does that ring a bell?” I raised my eyebrow and he looked at me with a furrowed eyebrow. “I know who you are and who your father is, which is the major reason I agreed to this meeting. But your best friend or ex- best friend doesn't ring a bell.” He leaned back in his seat, watching me and I stared back at him, chuckling a bit. “Come on, Henry Scott. My best friend, Sandra, was going to get married to you some weeks back in Luresia. This is a picture of her.” I handed him my phone and he looked at me still confused. “I don't know who this lady is, I have never seen her a day in my life and I have never even been to Luresia.” He handed me back my phone and I could see the sincerity in his eyes which only crushed me. “So she lied.” I chuckled humorlessly. “My husband was really the man in her life all along, you didn't exist in her life, you didn't impregnate her, there was never a romantic engagement or wedding plans. It was all to make money off of me and play games with me.” I laughed again, and a hot single tear rolled down my cheek so I quickly wiped it away. “I am so sorry for wasting your time and it was just something I needed to clear up. Thank you for meeting with me.” I stumbled on my words and rose to my feet, scared to meet his eyes. He must think I'm crazy or pathetic. “Selena.” He called out as I turned around, ready to dash out of his office and I met his worried gaze. “Would you like to join me for dinner? You know…to apologize for wasting my time and to talk about your ‘so-called’ fiancée. Amongst other things.” He held eye contact with me while I debated on going to dinner with him or not. I agreed reluctantly and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I made in a long time.SELENA’S POV:A FEW HOURS LATER:“I am still appalled that someone like her dared to say I proposed to her and got her pregnant. She couldn’t even come close before my presence even if she wanted to. I am both amused and annoyed, so your husband impregnated her?” He raised his eyebrow questioning, drinking out of his glass of wine with his brown eyes staring directly at me.We were currently at a beautiful restaurant named Levers, and Henry had reserved for about two hours leaving us alone in here along with a waitress who only came near when she was beckoned. I honestly felt truly calm and relaxed and their food was amazing but Henry’s curiosity had me ranting and pouring out all my feelings. It was something I didn’t know I needed.“Yes, he did.” I answered, swallowing my food and Henry shook his head and scoffed, looking from his food back to me.“After you signed off all your parent’s property and company and all to him and to that Sandra? He dared to burn and throw your belonging
SELENA'S POV:SIX MONTHS LATER:“Good morning!” I announced my presence as I stepped into the kitchen, meeting Henry in a singlet and some fitted black suit trousers, looking as hot as the meal he was preparing for us.These past six months have been amazing, stressful, and heart wrecking for a variety of reasons. It was super stressful, settling into the mansion Mr Havin Scott, Henry's father, had gifted to us though I was yet to meet him. It was such a dream home for every single person who dreamt of having kids and a partner, the gardens, about eight bedrooms, parking lots, a swimming pool. I loved how serene and beautiful the entire mansion was.It was amazing because I felt a friendship developing between Henry and I, we talked about work and literally everything and anything. He prepared breakfast every morning and apparently he cooked so well. He was also extremely strict and mean to other people but he was like a marshmallow to me. Most importantly, he never hesitated to boos
SELENA'S POV: THAT NIGHT: “Why didn't we first stop by the house to change? I'm so tired and I bet everyone can see how exhausted I am through my eyes and this cloth I have on. I look like a mess.” I complained to Henry as the GPS announced we were five minutes away. “I've seen people looking a mess and trust me, you look nothing like that, you look amazing, smell so good and look like the most sexy CEO I have ever laid my eyes on.” A fuzzy feeling spread across my chest at the sound of that and my cheeks might have turned a shade of pink seeing the sincerity in his eyes. “Plus the truth is, we are running a bit late and my mum might have called a couple of times but Olivia assured me she was running late as well and my mum totally understands.” He informed me and I glanced at the time seeing it was already fifteen minutes after, both our meetings had run longer than we had expected. I hate being late so bad. I wanted to ask why Olivia didn't just come with him since she works in
SELENA’S POV:A FEW DAYS LATER….“Thank you so much for putting me through this, Will. Especially during the weekend!” I appreciated as I concluded the video call in my home office with one of the young personnels in the marketing team.He was nice and nerdy in his late twenties, and extremely knowledgeable. He had a whole lot of great ideas, him and many others who were trying so hard to impress me in order to replace Mrs Karen’s position. We were closely together because I had picked one of his ideas for the store which was almost to be closed.I heaved out a breath adjusting the pearls on my neck, listening to the soft music playing outside the room, shutting my laptop as I mentally prepared myself to get out of this beautifully designed room requested by my husband.Today was a surprise housewarming party, planned by Henry, after much persuasion by his family members. He had invited business associates, close friends, and old family members. According to what he had shared, this w
SELENA’S POV:TWO YEARS LATER:“Woahhhh!” Cherry exclaimed in excitement as she zoomed off in a pink jet ski along with Carmeron who was shirtless on another jet ski, roaring up in the same excitement as Cherry. We had all rented out a beach in order to rewind, relax and spend time with each other being that we had all been busy this past few months. Cherry had travelled to Yester, a city in another country about eight hours in a plane from here and it was quite amazing. I had stopped by to visit her about two months ago. A year ago, she had decided to quit being ‘childish’ and get a job, complete her degree. She headed to the University of Yester, one of the top schools in the world to complete her degree in fashion and we celebrated when she completed it last month, getting her different gifts and Mrs Scott threw a whole party inviting family, friends and Cherry’s fellow graduate.Cherry and I had grown a bond for different reasons but she had highlighted that by deciding to get a d
SELENA’S POV:Their childish games continued, until we got served with Olivia’s lemonade with ice and a cute straw. After we proceeded to play volleyball, the men versus the women.“If we win, we all get a dance show from you all at the bonfire tonight.” Carmeron suggested it before we started and we chuckled.“If we win, we get the same except you all must wear a wig.” Cherry stretched out her hand to seal the deal and Gabby and I giggled while Henry smiled winking at me.The game began with a whole lot of cheating from both sides with the guys literally picking us up at some point and I laughed so much, my jaw hurt. We ended up winning and we did get our dance from grown men wearing different colors and types of wigs, dancing and shaking their butts in our faces. We cheered and I heard Ashley chuckle and say, “Wow, I had no idea billionaires had this type of fun.” I laughed knowing every other day of the week, we were dressed in suits and corporate gowns or a jersey working too h
SELENA’S POV:FEW DAYS LATER:After everyone had left a couple days ago returning back to their work and life, Henry and I decided to stay a few days longer for what he described as our personal couple vacation. We had done every single thing together, and we made everything fun, romantic and extremely spicy. We went painting, molding, skiing, and even surfing. We made love everywhere in the beach house, on the counter, on the floor, in the bathroom, in the storage room, so much that we almost got caught by the chef.My heart kept pounding at how exhilarating it had all been and how maybe…I had found the love of my life, the man I could completely put my trust in again and who I’d be willing to do anything for.Tonight was our final night together, and Henry announced that we were heading out probably because I’d been laying in all afternoon due to exhaustion from all our strenuous activities, and I had been feeling so dizzy, Henry had been so worried but I had assured him it was noth
SELENA’S POV:We stepped out of the car and into a vibrant Fiesta Salsa Haven. I glanced at Henry and he smiled leading me in. As soon as we entered, the aroma of fresh cilantro enveloped us, teasing our taste buds, there was live mariachi music playing and everyone seemed so excited with the smiles plastered on their faces while I was taken in the warmth of the restaurant. “Thank you.” I appreciated it as Henry pulled out a chair for me and took a seat in front of me, instantly reaching for my hand. He always needed to feel me for some reason I would never complain about.“So what do you want to do? Dance or Eat first?” He asked, grinning from ear to ear and I stared at him with wide eyes.“What do you mean by dance? Like watching them dance or actually dancing?” I inquired, raising my eyebrow and he chuckled.“Well that was way too many dances in a sentence.” We both laughed at his words and I shook my head at him, tapping my feet at the sound of the music playing, glancing at cou
SELENA’S POV:A WEEK LATER:It had been approximately a week since Carmeron had gone between life and death, and we had received a call yesterday announcing that he was finally awake. When Henry and Julian had gone to meet the doctor a week ago, he didn’t sound hopeful which broke everyone. Carmeron’s parents flew in that day and balled into tears, crying miserably especially his mother who was advanced in age. It was such a heartbreaking sight, and Henry was so lost. Later that night, Henry had shared the story of when he realized Carmeron was going to be around for a while, and it went thus. Flashback:I can’t remember much but I know I was about four or five and I usually attended my parent’s events, especially the ones thrown at the mansion then. I remember quite vividly there were people everywhere except the staircase, everyone mingling and drinking, and in celebration laughing boisterously. I took a seat by the piano, since my parents had ensured that I had gotten lessons an
HENRY’S POV:A FEW HOURS LATER:We all arrived at the hospital, but my parents had opted to stay with Hailey and take her out as well as my godson, Ryan, believing my little girl and Ryan were feeling the tension and fear we were all feeling which wasn’t good. Liv had entered the room earlier and she had shared a recent progress with their case.“So the judge has finally arrived at a decision and my partner would be representing me on my behalf. By tonight, we should already be informed and we are either celebrating or drafting an appeal.” Liv told Selena, sounding excited like she was sure it was going to be good. Selena was the opposite, she simply nodded and they both headed out together speaking quietly about something that had to do with therapy and when I asked, Liv had instructed me to mind my business. Was something going wrong in Selena’s therapy? Had I done something to make her feel she couldn’t share it with me? Wasn’t my wife my business? When I asked Selena after she re
HENRY'S POV:“My parents as well as Zoey and her boyfriend are currently at the mansion resting. You should rest before heading to the hospital.” I told Selena and she hummed, which let me know she was jetlagged as she always was.She leaned on my shoulder and asked, “Anything new on Carmeron?” I quietly shook my head, and she intertwined our fingers together, “By shielding Cherry, he had gotten more cuts from the crash. Some glasses ended up being deeper than the other and more severe, piercing at different sides. And there was a hit to his head, doctors say it's a miracle he's alive, however, they would be observing more to check his brain activity if there would be any brain activity or not.” I shared and I could feel her holding onto me tightly.“He protected her with his life and I stopped speaking to him in fear he would hurt her. He is literally between life and death and there's nothing I can do, Cherry is not even speaking to me. This has to be the worst few days, and you do
3RD POV:Sandra’s eyes glinted with a mixture of calculation and frustration. "I think the first thing we need to do is make sure we don’t make the same mistakes again," she said. "We need to think ahead, not just react. The press, the judges—everything is about perception. If we can control that, maybe we stand a chance."David nodded slowly, his mind working in overdrive. "And the money?" he asked, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper as he leaned closer to Sandra, eyes scanning the room as if waiting for someone to overhear them. "We can’t afford to leave it all up to chance. The assets, the properties, the companies—all of it needs to be moved, hidden. If the court doesn’t rule in our favor, everything we've built is gone."Sandra’s lips curled into a tight smile, her thoughts mirroring his. "I’ve already set some things in motion. We’ll move the most valuable assets into accounts overseas. That way, even if they try to seize everything, it won’t be enough." Her voice wa
3RD POV:“So I’d appreciate a nice new dress and those bags you get your wife in pink preferably. Have an amazing afternoon, I’m clocking out and the other maids are all coming in soon.” David scoffed as she walked off changing her walking step to only entice him further and he was surprised but he loved a good challenge and Unnie was a real beautiful girl.Soon after she walked out the doors, Sandra stepped in and David’s mood grew sour. He rose to his feet excited to see his son, as he had not seen him in the past two days. “My favorite child.” He announced and grabbed his son who unlike other times he picked up and threw him in the hair and he would laugh, this time as soon as he touched his son, he cried loudly screaming as well.“Stop crying, little man. What’s going on?” David instantly inquired with concern and Sandra shrugged, taking him away from him.“I don’t know…maybe he’s growing to hate you.” She pointed out, and David was taken aback, assuming he hadn’t heard Sandra cl
SELENA’S POV:“I tried, I made efforts, I called everyday but our meetings at the park ended, his calls stopped and on the night he died, when he was shot by the police officers when he had kidnapped another girl, I had a dream where he screamed my name and just kept crying and apologizing. And the next morning, I heard it on the news, and his father literally committed suicide after his burial, it was a lot.” My heart broke for her and I went ahead to hug her which made her chuckle.“I’m alright now, I just shared that to tell you I always know when something bad has happened to anyone close to me, I’m just going to be aware of the other world.” She shared and for some reason I felt really calm after that yet disturbed by the little boys who at such a young age are already involved with such crimes and all those girls and the trauma they lived through. They didn’t deserve that neither did boys like Tim who through the influence of their boss lost their lives.I stretched my leg and f
SELENA’S POV:A FEW DAYS LATER:“I totally apologize for calling and instantly giving you instructions, but I thought you need to see it.” After watching the news and hanging up the call, the same number called again. I sucked my teeth and instantly snapped shouting, “What the hell do you want?” And it was accompanied by a low voice introducing himself as Joey and an apology from him. I let out a breath and held my forehead, taking a seat, “Hello Joey.” I simply said still trying to calm myself down, by doing a breathing exercise.“You seem tense, and I’m certain it’s not because of this news. Or am I wrong? Are you okay?” He asked softly and his voice was so low and full of care, it felt like he was here and I could just talk to him.“I’m not but I am certain everything will be fine.” I shared, reassuring not him but myself and I could hear him hum. “I’m sure it will be.” He reaffirmed and I nodded about to bid him farewell. However just as I was just about to, he said, “Will you
SELENA’S POV:I picked up my phone noticing that about ten minutes ago, Gabby had sent me a picture of the four of them at a restaurant, adding ‘I wish you two were here.” “They were just with Gabby and Julian. I’m going to call and ask if they are with them.” I said all at once and he nodded slowly, while Henry picked up his phone talking to someone on the other line.He paced back and forth and I sat at the edge of the chair, calling both Julian and Gabby back and forth and they both didn’t pick until I called Gabby once more.“Hey Selena!” She excitedly called out and I let out a breath, in relief as I was starting to fear the worse.“Gabby! Where are you? Are you with Cherry and Carm?” I asked, overhearing Henry behind already booking a flight to Resiph tonight.“Girl, we had some drinks, this Lorean alcohol and I can’t lie,….we were pretty wasted.” She laughed and I was about to speak, she continued talking, ”Carm and Cherry got carried into their cars because Carm went out shou
3RD POV:MEANWHILE…Back in Resiph, Cherry and Carmeron as well as Gabby and Julian had gone out for some drinks as well as dinner at some Lorean restaurant, they had noodles, steak, rice, variety as well as some traditional beer they had never seen before nor had before. So they all took a glass and they all winced together in unison.“That’s strong as well. Cherry just might have been drunk from just that shot.” Julian teased and Cherry shot him the middle finger.“As a matter of fact, why aren’t people here?” Julian asked, looking around wondering why the place was so empty. It was in the middle of the city and Gabby who had been invited to try it out, about being offered over fifteen million and free food, she thought it would be fun to go with her family and to take a picture after.“Aside from the fact that it’s rented out, the steak alone as well as the other meals is overpriced to the average person and a wealthy man who has more important things to pay for. I mean it's the be
