Broken

Danielle's POV

        I'm just a shadow of myself Danielle cried while talking to her best friend, Britney. I'm an orphan yet pregnant to an unknown man. What has life become of me?, 'I can't keep this child. No!' she screamed. I barely can feed myself how am I supposed to take care of this child, she cried. All Britney could do was console her telling her "everything will work out fine". 

         Danielle met Britney at the Greenwich Hotel where they both work as waitresses. It has been hell for Danielle working there, no one liked her especially her manager Mr. Spencer. He despised her for turning him down several times. He made sure she worked her ass out while working in the hotel, he made her close from work late than any other person. Several times she thought of resigning but she had nowhere else to work, she had no degree and the thoughts of this baby made her more frustrated. What if Mr. Spencer finds out about this baby, "I'll be so gone". She hated her condition, she hated the baby. Danielle's only friends were just Britney and Marcus. Marcus is gay and works as the receptionist. He's funny and everyone loves to be around him. 

Weeks rolled by as her stomach got bigger, she couldn't hide anymore. She started sleeping during work hours and got tired of doing most of her work. Her friend Britney covers for her so Mr. Spencer won't get to know but they knew they can't hide forever. Cindy one of their colleague who took a disliking to Danielle found out she was pregnant and decided to use it against her. She went straight to Mr. Spencer's office, she overheard Danielle talking to Britney about her condition.

Mr. Spencer was so furious when he heard the news, he asked for Danielle. As soon as she got to his office, she met Cindy looking at her with a devious smile. She was confused but yet scared because Cindy has never smiled at her before. Mr. Spencer asked her if she was pregnant? At that moment she knew she would have to leave. She couldn't find words to speak and Mr. Spencer asked her again but more aggressively, she nodded 'Yes' as tears rolled down from her eyes. 'What will happen to me?' she asked herself. Danielle left the office as instructed, she went to the changing room to get her stuff. she met Britney there, she couldn't help as she broke down and wept. "I can't believe this is happening, what will happen to me and this baby, she said. Britney tried to calm her, helped in packing her stuff. They went downstairs and they met Marcus who was sad about the situation, they were going to miss her. "I promise to call and check up on you," Marcus said. Danielle gave in a little smile and nodded, they hugged each other and Danielle left.

      

Danielle got home to see Grandma sitting on the couch, she's the only person left after She lost her parents in a car accident. It's been 6years now but the scar remained and the pain of losing her parents always haunted her. "Grandma" She called out, She knew she won't get an answer because she's ear impaired but thank God for the hearing aids she got from the Community Health Support. Danielle's condition made her sad, "and now I've been fired, how are we going to survive Danielle thought to herself". 

Here she was staring at nothing, Danielle went close to her to get her attention. Grandma has always been Danielle's favorite granny, she would get toys for her to play with. Danielle kissed her temple then left. 

   She got to the kitchen thinking of what to make as lunch, went to the fridge, and there's not much left. She made a cheese sandwich for lunch and brought it for Grandma. She wasn't really hungry so she headed straight to her room to rest. Although she couldn't sleep, thoughts of how to care for grandma and the baby filled her head. She didn't realize when she had fallen asleep and woke up with a migraine, she tried to stay calm as she gently touches her temple. She rolled to the left side of the bed to find her phone it was already 7 pm and She has missed calls from Britney, "maybe she wants to know if I'm home now" She said to herself. Her stomach growled, now she felt hungry and needed to eat something, if not for anything but at least for her unborn child. She thought of the basic things she had to get for the baby. At that moment she remembered she had some money saved, so she went to get the old box her mom gave to her when she was only 7years old, she began to count and She was happy she could make such a huge amount of money was enough for her and the baby "and yeah I have to start up a little business too that could cater for my child and grandma" she said to herself. Her stomach growled louder, she couldn't resist this time, She stood up from bed and headed to the kitchen to eat the leftover Cheese sandwich she had made earlier. After having dinner, she washed all the dishes and made sure everything was in order before leaving. She went to check on my grandma and realized she was fast asleep, She gently closed the door and headed to her room; her room was just opposite grandma's room. As she got to her room she remembered that she needed to call Britney, She reached for her phone in her back pocket.

, Are you okay? Are you home?, How's granny?'' She asked! "Too many questions," Danielle said. There was a little silence between them. She finally found her voice to speak. 'Well I'm fine, and I'm in my room, granny went to bed early' She replied. 'I'll come to see you tomorrow then, that reminds me Marcus said I should tell you he's coming over tomorrow too". She was happy, She loved their presence and get to forget all her problems too. 'Take of yourself and the baby' she said.. 'Okay bye' Danielle answered. She went to bed again but feeling much better.
