Laura opened her eyes to see two identical faces staring at her. This does not look like the hospital, she thought.
“Mom, are you alright? Who were you talking to in the dream?” Lisa asked, whispering as she moved closer to observe her mother’s face.
Laura’s eyes snapped open as she realized where she was—in the airplane on her way back to New York.
“Mom, your eyes are red,” Liam said as he also observed his mother’s face.
They had boarded on a first-class ticket, so they had the whole section to themselves. Laura didn’t have to worry about them disturbing the other passengers.
“I’m okay, baby girl." Laura said to Lisa, and she turned to Liam and said, “It’s because I was sleeping.”
“Liam, are my eyes red too?” Lisa turned to her brother so he could observe her eyes too.
Liam bent towards Lisa, peering into her eyes to observe. “No, they are too tiny to be red, I guess,” Liam said.
“Is that true, mom?” Lisa asked her mother, who was smiling at them, glad that she had distracted them from her mood.
“Humm, I guess genius Liam is correct,” Laura replied.
“I told you, you should listen to me more often,” Liam told his sister in triumph.
Lisa scrunched up her face, folded her hands, and turned towards the window instead.
Laura rolled her eyes. She pulled out her phone to check if she had received any messages from her assistant. Audrey. She was returning after seven years, and there were only two things that had brought her back.
“Mom, I need to go to the restroom,” Liam said casually.
“Oh, do you want to pee?” Laura asked.
“Mom! You don’t say that in public” Liam replied, his brows raised as he looked at his mom.
“Okay, big guy, let’s go,” Laura said, chuckling.
As Laura and Liam left for the restroom, Lisa stood up and went towards the mini bar.
“Hello, can I get a cherry, please?” she asked in a cute voice.
The attendant looked around, wondering who had spoken, as the bar obscured her from his view.
Lisa shook her head, rolled her eyes, and stretched out her hand as she said, “Down here.”
“Oh, of course you can have a cherry, not just here,” the attendant replied.
Before Lisa could reply, a gentleman walked up to them. “Here you go, little one; you can have these ones,” he said.
Lisa’s eyes brightened up when she saw the cherry. “Oh, thank you!”
“You’re welcome, dear. Now where’s your seat? Let me take you there,” the young man said.
“No, don’t worry; mummy would think I brought Daddy,” Lisa replied as she took the plate.
“Can I have your card instead? My mom says every gentleman has a card,” Lisa said, looking up at the handsome man in front of her.
“Aren’t you a cute one?" the man said, chuckling. He dipped his hand in his pocket, hoping he found a card. He had stood up to bring her the cherry when he heard her voice from his seat.
“Here you go,” the man said after finding one in his pantsuit.
“Thank you!” Lisa said as she hurried on her small feet back to their section.
When Laura got back to her seat, she saw her daughter with a plate full of cherries.
“Lisa, how did you get that?” Laura asked.
“A handsome man gave it to me,” Lisa replied innocently. Laura wanted to say more, but she let it go, knowing her daughter was smarter than she looked and would not collect something from a stranger. It had to be one of the attendants she was referring to as ‘handsome’, Laura thought.
“Liam, come over here,” Lisa called before Laura could strap him into his seat.
Liam saw the look in his sister’s eyes and knew she wanted to discuss something with him. Turning to his mother, Liam asked, “Mom, can I sit beside Lisa while you sit in my own seat?”
Laura knew when her twins were trying to be mischievous, but she agreed because, well, they were aboard a plane, and there was only so little they could do.
“Okay, go ahead,” Laura agreed.
As soon as Laura sat down, she plugged in airphones so she could listen to messages from some of her clients while working on her laptop.
When Liam saw their mother was preoccupied, he asked, “Lisa, what did you find?”
“I found candidate number one,” Lisa whispered back.
“Cool, I just need to find my own candidate, then we can choose one,” Liam replied with a cheeky smile.
“You need to do it before we leave the airport, though, so you can get his card like I did,” Lisa told her brother.
Each time Laura looked up, she saw her twins whispering to each other, “I wonder what they are cooking this time around,” Laura muttered before getting back to work.
A few heartbeats later, the plane landed, and they were passed through immigration. Laura constantly checked to make sure her twin was with her.
“This is going to be fun,” Lisa said, her small brown eyes twinkling. Beside her, Liam was laughing too, his small eyes filled with joy as they finally made it through the checkpoints.
“Do not let go of each other, okay?” Laura told them as they walked through the airport.
“Okay, mummy,” the twins chorused.
Satisfied with their response, Laura looked around, trying to look for her name tag, which was supposed to be held by her assistant, Audrey.
“Over here!” Audrey shouted as soon as she saw them.
“Okay, thank God, there she is; let’s go,” Laura said, heading towards Audrey.
“It’s so good to see you,” Audrey said with a big smile when she finally got to them.
“It’s good to see you too, Audrey; I believe you’ve met Liam and Lisa,” Laura said, looking down to point at her children only to find just Lisa.
After pausing for a minute and turning around, Laura noticed Liam was nowhere to be found. She looked down and asked Lisa, “Where did Liam go?”
“He went over there,” Lisa replied, pointing towards the restroom on the far end of the hall.Handing Lisa over to Audrey, Laura headed in the direction Lisa had pointed.“Liam!” Laura muttered through gritted teeth in frustration.Behind her, Audrey watched Laura match off in anger.“I think we should go after her,” Audrey said.“I think so too, Aunt Audrey,” Lisa replied. She didn’t want her mom to catch on to what they were trying to do. Liam had told her he had seen candidate number two before he headed in the direction of the restroom.“Okay, let’s go; we can get your bags later,” Audrey said, and they went after Laura.******In the rest room, standing beside Liam was a cool, tall, and handsome young man, and Liam thought, I think I’ve found my candidate number two.“What are you looking at, kid?” the man asked."Nothing; I just noticed how funny your shoe looks with that on it,” Liam replied as he cleaned his hand with the tissue in his hands. The man looked at his shoe and smi
Lisa’s eyes widened in surprise. “That’s a cool name, Liam,” she said in a small voice, careful not to alert her mom to their little discussion.“Lisa, Liam, quit talking and let’s go,” Laura said to them as she recovered herself.“Audrey, please make sure the bell boy gets all our luggage,” Laura said to Audrey, giving her a warm smile.“Oh, no, not that smile,” Audrey muttered as she watched Laura head towards the entrance. She turned towards the bellboy, who had come to get the luggage; she missed the drama that was unfolding at the entrance.Jason saw them walking towards him—the annoying lady from the airport—and this time there were two kids latching on her arm."I see you followed me all the way here," Jason said, stopping in front of Laura.Laura stared at him blankly for a few seconds. Lisa looked at Liam and whispered, "Oh no, Mummy is in the mood."Liam placed his left hand on his face and shook his head in disappointment.Instantly, Laura's face spread with a sweet smile,
“What the hell is that? Was that a whistle?” Jason said, his face filled with irritation.Tim quickly went out to the balcony, and as soon as he stepped out, he caught a glimpse of the back of a lady. Before he could say a word about who had made the noise, he heard the door to the other suite balcony close.“I didn't get the chance to ask. I didn't know someone was in the other suite now," Tim said as he returned to the bedroom."Yeah, I was told someone booked it indefinitely," Jason replied."Really? It must be someone important for you to agree to the reservation," Tim replied.Jason stood up and went to the wine counter in the living room. He poured himself a glass of champagne."Whoever it was offered to pay extra to keep the space, so I allowed it." Jason said this after taking a swing at his champagne."Jason, what was that about? I mean before the scream," Tim asked."How's my father?" Jason asked instead, not answering Tim's question."Mr. Cade North is yet to regain conscio
Laura paused and turned back toward the living room to see Audrey holding something out to her."Your phone—you forgot it on the couch," Audrey said."Oh, thank you," Laura replied, closing the door behind her as she stepped back into the living room.In the hallway, Jason and Tim were heading to the elevator when they saw the door to the next suite close as soon as they got to it. Jason caught a glimpse of a woman just before the door closed."Jason, do you want me to knock and ask about the noise earlier?" Tim asked."No, the hotel staff should take care of that. Get someone to send whoever is in there the guidelines for the suite," Jason replied in a haughty voice."Okay, I'll do that. Gift is already at the restaurant," Tim replied.Jason's personal bodyguard, Charlie, pushed the button to open the elevator. As they walked in, Jason said, "While I speak with grace, get a non-disclosure agreement drafted," to Tim.Laura stepped out of the suite and realized the elevator door was cl
Jason took the contract Tim had drafted and placed it before Gift as he stretched out a pen towards her. "Sign it, Gift; that's all you have to do," Jason said grimly. Gift Hatcher was a popular celebrity; she was gorgeous and well known in the movie industry. She had known Jason for quite a while; their families moved in the same circle, although the North family was on another level of influence. "If I am going to be your girlfriend to keep this secret, it's going to be on one condition, Jason," Gift said, her voice filled with determination. "And what is that?" Jason asked, looking impatient. Gift smiled sweetly as she said, "I want you to put in a few words for me in the industry, especially some big projects." Gift's statement intrigued Jason. "Why would I agree to that?" he told her. Despite needing her help, he would never recommend someone solely based on being an acquaintance. Gift smirked, her eyebrows raised innocently, as she said, "Well, you can't be the only one
A security guard, a cleaner, and Audrey were standing around them."I'm sorry, Aunt Audrey," Lisa pleaded, her eyes filled with tears.Laura was amazed. Standing in the midst of the group were Lisa and Liam, with a scatted cake at their center."What's going on here?" Laura asked as soon as she walked up to them."Mom!" The twins cried out and rushed over to her."Laura, it is just a small misunderstanding. Lisa and Liam insisted on carrying the cake, and the cake fell off while they were struggling for it." Audrey replied.Laura raised her brows in question at the twins, who were looking up at her with round eyes of pity."No, don't try that with me," Laura told them as she looked at their pitiful faces."What did I tell you guys?" Laura asked them sternly."We should behave ourselves." Liam and Lisa replied."It was an honest mistake, ma'am; we'll just get this cleaned up, and all is fine," the security guard told Laura."Thank you," Laura replied to the guard and turned to the twin
"Oh, my god, something must be wrong," Terry North declared, his concern written all over his face."Everything would be fine; I'm sure nothing would happen to Cade." Luke said to everyone and then turned to Jason. "Jason, why have you not been here? It's been days since you came to the hospital," he stated.Jason knew what they were all worried about. Despite their concerned faces at his father's illness, he knew that was the least of their worry. With his chin held high and standing tall, Jason strolled the rest of the distance to his so-called family."I didn't know we had to keep attendance for visiting father in the hospital now, Uncle Luke," Jason murmured.Luke's cheeks were flushed as he replied, "I didn't mean that; I was just concerned that you did not show up."Jason turned towards Rita, who had her head bowed. "Aunt Rita, I didn't know you rear sheeps now," he said to her.Rita gave a nervous laugh. "Where did you hear that? Of course not," she replied, fidgeting a little.
Audrey, who had been smiling at Laura as she closed the door, was stunned to hear someone ask her such a question.Jason kept walking toward his door. Charlie was right behind him; Jason was on the brink and did not want to pour all his aggression on this meddlesome woman."Uhm!" Audrey tried to say something, but Jason cut her off."Safe it; I don't want to hear it." Jason replied, cutting her off; without looking back at her, he opened his door and said over his shoulders to Charlie, "Ensure she gets on that elevator."Audrey looked confused about what was going on; she had missed seeing Jason's face.Audrey shook her head, muttered, "A lot of weird guys these days," and stepped into the elevator. Before Charlie could turn to her, she was gone.Jason walked into the suite, relaxing his stiff shoulders that had stayed rigid all day. He had not expected the day to turn out like this, nor had he expected the conversation he had with his doctor the day before.*FLASH BACK*"Jason, I'm a
