Chapter 11

"When I got discharged from the hospital, my dad had already left for some work so that afternoon, mum and I decided to go out for lunch. walking into the restaurant, mum felt uncomfortable because the main hall had alot of people and the noise was unbearable, I  requested for a vip room that would normally have two tables in each room. We walked in and found a lady seated on the other table, we chose the empty table and sat. mum suddenly had to make important phone calls concerning her work and had to go out for a while. I looked at the new phone I had and decided to call you  and explain why I suddenly went quiet but then when I was about to tell you everything, that woman happened to be talking to her boyfriend on the phone and said those words not to me but to the person she had been talking to on phone. I came all the way just to make things right with you and make you understand that your conclusions were wrong. your cousin knew my situation better and each time he tried talking to you about me, you would always shut him out. knowing your stubborn nature, he knew it was useless to tell you this on phone, I had to do it in person" Chris explained each and every detail carefully without leaving out anything. "if you don't believe me, you can call your cousin and he will confirm everything with you. Asia was filled with bewilderment, how could she have misunderstood him like this, what did she do. He even had an accident and almost died yet she treated him so badly all this while. Her mailbox was filled up with his messages, couldn't she have given him a chance to explain first. Him being persistent should have rang a bell in her mind that if he had someone else, he wouldn't bother himself sending her messages almost everyday.                           Asia's eyes were filled with so much remorse and tears just rolled down her cheeks uncontrollably. Chris let go of her as soon as he finished explaining himself and prepared to leave. Her remorseful expression didn't make him feel satiated, he was hurt knowing the fact that she didn't trust him. At the same time, he knew that his sudden silence at that time must have added to her mistrust but still, she was suppose to listen to him. "love is like a garden filled with beautiful flowers, it's not necessarily a feeling but it's what a person does inspite of what they feel, if there is no trust then there's no love and having unrequited love is something one must not endure with for long" Chris said. Asia knew he was about to leave, she quickly ran up to him and grabbed his arm, forgetting about her injured foot, she held his arm tightly refusing to let go "please Chris I'm sorry, when you went quiet, I felt so depressed and didn't know what to think, when you called me, I was going to listen to you but when I heard what that woman said,i-i felt more aggrieved and broken, it-it  just added to the sorrow I felt". Chris pushed her hand away and continued walking.  Asia chased after him again and at this time, her wound opened and she started bleeding. she slipped and  fell so heavily crying out in pain ahhh!!  Chris who was about to open the door and  go out suddenly looked back and saw the girl fall so helplessly, his heart ached and he rushed over to her side only to see the blood on her bandaged foot dripping and her face full of tears. "Chris I'm sorry, I will always listen to you please give me a chance please, I will never let my anger get the better of me"                                      Chris exhaled deeply, of course he didn't come all the way just to explain things clearly then break up with her and leave just like that. He wanted to teach her a lesson but seeing her in this state, he couldn't bare it. Asia covered her face with both of her hands and sobbed uncontrollably. Chris went to her side and carried the sobbing girl, he took her to her room and cleaned her wound again. Looking at the girl who sobbed silently, Chris felt helpless "Asia stop crying, I came back for you, not to end things with you but to mend our relationship, I hope now you will trust me and  first listen to my explanation in case any misunderstandings arise". Asia nodded her head vigorously with swollen eyes "i-i will listen to you". "now don't run around, your foot isn't good so just be obedient. tell me, are you happy studying medicine?" unlike him who was doing a business course she still had a long way to go. "yes, I'm happy and I'm in my first year". Chris nodded "yes, I know it's your first year".  Asia looked at the man in front of her. He looked taller than she remembers him to be, it's been over three years since she last saw him. " how is it like that side?" Asia asked she had never travelled abroad. "well it's lovely but coming back to Africa has made me feel like I'm back home once again and I'm really happy to be back after a long time, I missed this place, the nature,wild life and everything, I'm really happy to be back. "so are you done with your course?" Asia asked, " oh no, I'm in my last year, I would have graduated this year had it not been for the accident".
