Ch. 72 ON THE STREETS

Emily’s POV

The sharp thump of knocking jerked me awake, and I blinked sleepily as a blinding light shone directly in my face. "Stop shining that in my face!" I cried, shielding my eyes with my hand. "Are you trying to blind me?"

The gruff voice that responded made me freeze. "Is this your house?"

Glancing around, I realized with a sinking feeling that I wasn't in my own bed but rather curled up in the seat of an abandoned car, the door hanging open and the windows wide. The cold night air seeped through my thin clothes, and I hugged myself tightly.

"No, it's not," I admitted, looking up at the stranger towering over me. He was a rough-looking he-wolf, his beard thick and his eyes glinting with a disturbing mix of green and brown under the moonlight.

"Aren't you cold?" he inquired, lowering the flashlight. "Don't you have a place to go?"

Wincing, I shifted, rearranging my disheveled clothing as best I could. "I-I do, but I'm lost. I need to get back to the Demontail Pack." I explained
