Ch. 52 MONSTER

Emily’s POV

As my eyes fluttered open, a shooting pain pierced through my skull, cold blood trickling down my face. Every inch of my body ached, throbbing in protest at the slightest movement.

The sound of tormented screams assaulted my ears, and as my vision cleared, I realized with dawning horror that I was trapped upside down inside a distorted car.

Beside me, glassy eyes stared lifelessly at me—the young daughter of the couple who had tried to help me escape. Blood oozed from her parted lips; her face was white, and her skin was translucent. In the front seats, her father's lifeless body hung limply, but there was no sign of the mother.

Her disturbing cries pierced the air once more: "Please, don't kill me!"

Memory rushed back in shattered bursts—the car swerving, rolling, the screech of twisting metal. We must have crashed, but the details escaped me.
