Ch. 124 THE CAMP

Emily’s POV

It had been a month since our traumatic escape from the packhouse, yet the weight of it all still lingered. I hadn't seen Robert since he stayed behind to fight for us, and the fate of my son Winston continued to prey on my mind, I didn’t know where he was.

"It’s not your fault, Robert didn’t tell us which daycare he kept him," Artemis said in my mind. "I am sure he is being taken good care of."

"But... we can’t be so sure. What kind of a mother am I? That I don’t know where my own child is?" I lamented, and shut her away, before she could utter another word, she didn’t understand how it feels to be a mother.

Tonight, I took comfort in the cool hold of the river, hoping the gentle caress of the water might ease the pain I was going through. But as I bathed under the bright moonlight, the peacefulness was shattered by the sound of approaching footsteps.
