“If I find you anywhere near this pack again, I will kill you. This time, I’ll make sure you’re dead.” Lucian’s words ring in my head over and over again as I walk through Shadow Ridge Forest.

I clench my jaw and push forward. My body is weak, my shoulder aching, but I refuse to stop.

I am alone, homeless with nowhere to sleep and nothing to eat.

And on top of all of that, it’s only a matter of time before my father tracks me down and kill me.

I shake my head, refusing to dwell on it.

I do not have the time to feel sorry for myself or wallow in misery. Just because Lucian refused to help me, and my father is hunting me, doesn’t mean I get to give up.

I push on, walking for what feels like hours and Just as I’m about to leave Shadow Ridge, I spot something through the trees—a house.

It looks abandoned.

Hope flickers inside me and I walk toward it cautiously, scanning my surroundings, making sure it’s safe and no one is around. I reach the door and push it open, the wood groaning unde

I walk into town as cautiously as I can, sticking to the busiest streets. I make sure I blend in with the crowd, using my hair to cover my face. To them, I’m just another stranger passing by.I make my way to the back entrance of my bakery, glancing over my shoulder every now and then to make sure I’m not being followed. My hands shake slightly as I twist the doorknob and I slip inside. The familiar scent of fresh pastries and vanilla still lingers, even though the place has been untouched since the day I turned.I move fast, denying myself the time to get sentimental.I grab a duffle bag from my office and start tossing everything I can find—money from the till, non-perishable food, clothes, bathroom supplies.I then take one last look at my little bakery, the place I once thought would be my future and a lump forms in my throat, but I swallow it down and turn to leave.Just as I open the door, I freeze.I find Logan standing outside, gun in hand.Without saying a word, he pushes me

Kira was right. The pain wasn’t as bad as the first time. If I do this a couple more times, it will get easier.I watch as she runs through the trees, jumping over fallen logs and crossing rivers like it’s nothing. She’s free and happy.I get now why she wanted this run so badly. But unlike Kira, my mind is stuck on the attack. No matter how much I want Lucian to suffer, there are kids there. Innocent lives that don’t deserve to be slaughtered by my deranged father.I have to warn them."Kira, we need to change back," I whisper in her head. "I’ve decided to warn Lucian and the rest of the pack!""Ugh, okay. Give me a few more minutes. Let me enjoy this run before Lucian kills us the second he sees you.""Kira, now! There’s no time!" I snap. She sighs dramatically but obeys, turning back towards our cabin."Buzzkill," she sneers, as I shift back, landing hard on my knees.I catch my breath and shake off the lingering pain. "Come on, girl, we’ll have more runs in the future. For now, we

My arms ached, and my fingers became raw from hours of scrubbing wooden floors.Lucian’s idea of letting me stay wasn’t about accepting me into the pack. It was about making me their slave. The second I agreed to stay behind, I became the lowest of the low—an Omega, the pack’s slave and punching bag. They all barked orders at me whenever they pleased. Clean this. Fetch that. Cook. Serve. Scrub. It was humiliating. At first, I convinced myself it made sense, that I have to earn their trust, prove my loyalty and then work my way up.But never have I ever been so wrong in my life.No matter what I did, they still treated me like trash. Even the kids sneered at me, some even spitting on the ground in front of me when they passed. All they saw was the hunter’s daughter—the offspring of the man who has dedicated his life to slaughtering their kind.It didn’t matter that I had saved half of them from him, including their alpha, who would have probably died if I hadn’t been there.None of it

"Kira, we have to get out of town," I mutter, rushing inside the cabin.I find my duffle bag exactly where I left it, and I yank it open, my fingers shaking as I sift through its contents."Everything is still here," I breathe out in relief.Kira sighs in my head, her voice edged with urgency."Good. That’s enough to get us started, Ingrid. But we don’t have much time. They’ll be here any second now. We have to leave."I don’t waste another second.I swing the bag onto my back and bolt out of the cabin, taking the hidden paths Kira and I discovered during our explorations. The woods provide some cover until the moment I step onto the main road.I see the outline of the Shadow Ridge sign looming ahead, and I keep going.A bigger town is just a few miles from Shadow Ridge—Oakridge. It’s the perfect place to disappear. No one will find me there—not Lucian, his pack, or my father.I walk through the darkness. My cap pulled low over my face. Headlights suddenly pierce the night behind me.

I stay in the motel for a whole week, barely leaving my room except for the occasional visit to the vending machine a few times a day. It feels like a long-overdue vacation—something I didn’t realize I needed until now. There are no pack members sneering at me, no one barking orders, no fights to survive: just me, my thoughts, and the quiet hum of the motel. But Kira is getting restless, and I can feel it.I have to let her out soon, but the idea of shifting here, in an unfamiliar place, unsettles me. I have no idea if Oakridge is safe for our kind.“Ingrid, how will we know unless we try?” Kira’s voice echoes in my head, impatient as ever.I sigh.“Kira, we need to consider the possibility that there might be hunters in this town too,” I reassure her, grabbing the remote and turning on the TV, hoping it will distract me.Kira growls, clearly unimpressed.I flip through the channels until I land on a music station playing the latest hits. My foot starts tapping instinctively and befor

We walk for about an hour, weaving through dense trees and narrow paths until we finally come across what must be the pack's territory.Aiden moves with ease, leading me through the thick forest until we reach a towering metal gate surrounded by lush, vibrant roses."We’re here," he announces, pushing the gate open.I take a deep breath, steadying myself before stepping through. The air is different here—calm, yet charged with something unspoken. The compound is massive. There are three large houses scattered around, but my eyes are instantly drawn to the mansion in the center. Its architecture is sleek and modern, with towering glass windows that allow me to see straight inside. The place is buzzing with life.Aiden leads me to the grand entrance of the mansion and opens the enormous door. The moment I step inside, my stomach drops. The place is packed. Men, women, children—all gathered around a long dining table, chatting and eating. The moment one of them spots me, they whisper to

"I have to ask, Ingrid, why don’t you have a pack?" Aiden’s voice breaks the silence as I push open the motel room door.I step inside and immediately start packing my few belongings into the worn duffel bag I arrived with.Out of the corner of my eye, I see Aiden watching me, waiting for an answer."Mmmh." He clears his throat loudly.I clench my fists, my nails digging into my palms."It’s a long story," I begin, my voice low, hoping that will be enough to dismiss him, but he doesn’t take the hint. "We have time," he counters, already making himself comfortable on the bed. "I’d love to hear it."I hesitate for a long moment before finally joining him on the edge of the bed."If I tell you, you might not want to help me anymore," I mutter, my gaze fixed on the floor, shame curling in my stomach.Aiden tilts his head, his expression soft but unreadable. "I don’t think I could do that, Ingrid," he responds, placing a firm but reassuring hand on my shoulder.Something about his presenc

After answering all of Ezra’s questions, he looks at me too intently, his piercing gaze practically reading into my soul. But just as I’m about to speak, he interrupts."You remind me of someone I used to know a long time ago," he mutters, his tone shifting to something darker, more serious.I squint my eyes, uncertain how to respond."I have one of those faces, I guess," I mutter, forcing casualness into my voice.Ezra shakes his head, clearly unconvinced. His sharp eyes never leave mine as he takes slow steps toward me. My heart begins pounding erratically, not sure what he’s about to do next. Then, without warning, he shifts his stance. Logan’s voice cuts through the haze."No," someone answers. "Still repeating the same line, that the last time he saw Ingrid was when he bit her."Logan steps closer, and I feel his fingers grip my jaw, forcing my head up.I blink through the blood and sweat, meeting his eyes with what little defiance I can muster."You’re a tough one, aren’t you?" he snarls, studying me like a broken prize. "Makes sense you’re the Alpha."He releases me with a shove and turns away."I think he’s had enough for today. Untie him from the ceil

INGRIDIt has been almost five hours since Lucian and Ezra left, and I can’t sit still.Every time I hear even the slightest noise at the compound gate, I rush to the window, only to be met with disappointment. There is no sign of them—just false hope, over and over again.I thought about talking to Aiden; we could go out and look for them, but he made things awkward between us.He’d come at me so hard about sleeping with Lucian, like I owed him an explanation, like I belonged to him.Another hour passes, and I start to feel this strange, twisting sensation in my gut. Anxiety, maybe.I can’t breathe, so I sit down on the cold floor, hoping it will stop the chaos in my head. Then I hear it—a commotion at the gate.I shoot up and rush to the window, holding my breath as someone staggers through the gates, covered in soot and clearly injured. My heart stops waiting for another figure to appear behind him, but no one comes in.I squint my eyes, trying to see through the haze, and that’s w

LUCIAN“Do you have anyone in mind who could be doing this?” Ezra asks as we walk back to the compound.I glance at him and stop in my tracks, debating whether to say what’s on my mind. It’s not a light accusation and I know Ezra won’t like it.“I have someone,” I say flatly, watching him out of the corner of my eye.Ezra stops too, turning toward me, his eyes narrow, his energy shifting.“Who?” he demands, his voice sharp with curiosity and tension.I shake my head, looking away. “You don’t want to know.”He grabs my bicep, stopping me mid-stride, his grip is firm, almost desperate.“You just promised me you wouldn’t keep things from me, Lucian. What’s it been—ten minutes?” he growls, frustration thick in his voice.I sigh deeply, nodding. “Okay, Ezra,” I breathe, my voice low and grave. “But I’m warning you—you’re not going to like it.”He raises a brow, waiting.I part my lips. “I think it’s Aid—”A searing pain explodes through my back mid-sentence and a growl rips from my chest

INGRIDThe moment I heard the click of the door locking, I tiptoed out of the shower and peeked through the gap. The bedroom was empty. Lucian had left.A strange, unexpected wave of disappointment washed over me.I wasn't sure what I expected from him—maybe a word, a glance, or a goodbye. Something. Anything would have been nice.Right on cue, Kira’s voice echoes in my head.“So…” she starts, smug and curious.I roll my eyes, ignoring her as I step back under the water, trying to rinse off every trace of what had just happened, but Lucian… Lucian clung to me.Not physically, but mentally and emotionally. His scent, his touch, his breath—all of it is seared into my skin.“Well, that was unexpected,” Kira comments in a low, teasing tone.I try to concentrate on the water trickling down my body, but instead my mind paints vivid memories of Lucian’s chiseled abs, the hard muscles on his back, his strong legs, and that perfect, sculpted ass.My lips parted unconsciously at the thought, an

Something unspoken. She doesn’t say anything, so I don’t either.I let the towel fall as I walk to the closet.I tug on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt while stealing glances in her direction, but by the time I step out, she’s gone.I hear the bathroom door click shut behind her and the water running again.I stand there for a minute, unsure whether I should follow her, knock on the door, and say something, but I resist the urge.I already had a clue of what she might say, that it meant nothing. That it was just a mistake. That she doesn’t care, which might be true, but unfortunately, I do.So

INGRIDAs I looked down at Lucian, his hair a wild mess between my thighs, I couldn’t believe what was happening. This is Lucian. The man I’ve argued with, fought with, claimed to hate every chance I got—and yet here I am, with his hands all over me, my body responding to him like it was made for this. For him. What the hell am I doing? I think to myself, but the thought doesn’t get to settle. It’s torn apart by a sudden, delicious wave of pleasure that rolls through me when his tongue finds just the right spot. My breath hitches, my body arches, and I forget why I ever told myself I hated him.It shouldn’t feel this good. It shouldn’t feel right. But gods, it does.My hands slide into his hair, tugging gently, then harder when he teases me just to the edge and pulls back again, leaving me panting and desperate. He looks up at me, lips slick and eyes dark with heat, and the smugness in his expression only makes things worse.“Still hate me?” he asks, voice husky, sinful.I want to sla

LUCIANThis wasn’t how I imagined today going. When I walked into that room, I had every intention of clearing the air.Ingrid had seen me with Victoria, and I knew exactly what it must have looked like. I knew she probably thought I was doing it with her and maybe that’s what I wanted her to think at the time, out of pride and anger. But standing in that closet, watching her flushed, the scent of whiskey in the air and music vibrating through the walls, everything I planned to say vanished. She wasn’t expecting me to see me. I could tell from the way she panicked, and tried to hide, demanding I leave which I didn’t. I couldn’t.There something about the way she covered herself with one hand, her eyes darting between me and the door, awakened a part of me I’d spent weeks trying to bury. The part that craved her.The last time I had felt like this was when we fought in the field her body against mine. Therefore, I had to know for sure. If she felt something for me or I was the only one

Instead, he calmly steps inside and closes the door behind him like he owns the damn place, which he does."Didn’t you hear what I said, Lucian?" I bark again, pointing at the door with one hand, a mistake I instantly regret when I notice his eyes drop to my chest. He arches a brow, amused."Now you have a problem with me seeing you naked? I thought that was the whole plan. I walk in, see you half naked, so I’d stay away from this room?” he pauses.“Or that only applies when you are pretending to be asleep?" he mocks, as he walks over to the rack and casually starts flipping through his jackets."Also, you don’t have to sneak around drinking my expensive liquor. If you want some, just ask," he adds with a smirk.I take advantage of the distraction, slip out of the closet, and tug my T-shirt over my head in record time.He grabs a jacket and follows me out, unbothered.

INGRIDI’d used the same trick to keep Lucian out of his chambers for days now—and to my surprise, it worked better than I expected. He stopped coming to sleep altogether and I only saw him briefly in the mornings when he came in to change clothes, and even then, we barely spoke.I could tell something was on his mind. Something big, so I assumed that was the only reason he hadn’t called me out on my games. This morning, after my shower, I was standing by the window when I caught a glimpse of Ezra, Aiden, and a few pack members heading out the gate.My brows pulled together, wondering why Ezra hadn’t told me he was going somewhere, not that he needed my permission.Curiosity got the better of me, and I quickly dressed, hoping to catch them before they left. But on my way down the stairs, something else caught my eye, making me pause mid-step.It was Victoria, standing in Lucian’s study.I stopped and watched them from across the hallway. She stood so close to him, talking, and he look
