“What is she doing here? Who brought her here?” a deep, hoarse voice asks, making my skin prickle.

“It’s me, Alpha Lucian. I saw her passed out next to the river when I was out running. I thought she was dead.” A second voice replies, sounding hesitant, almost cautious.

“She’s one of us. I couldn’t leave her out there.”

A long sigh follows, and then the voice I now recognize as the alpha’s speaks again.

“As soon as she wakes up, send her to me.”

I hear footsteps fading, and I finally gather enough courage to open my eyes. The first thing I see is a man standing next to me. I recognize him—he is one of the guards who had been sleeping the day I escaped.

Sitting beside me is a woman carefully tending to my wound.

“Please don’t sit up. You lost a lot of blood,” she says, gently pushing me back to the bed as I try to sit up.

The man beside her narrows his eyes at me and suddenly points a finger.

“You! I recognize you. You’re the hunter’s daughter,” he says, his tone laced with suspicion.

I walk into town as cautiously as I can, sticking to the busiest streets. I make sure I blend in with the crowd, using my hair to cover my face. To them, I’m just another stranger passing by.I make my way to the back entrance of my bakery, glancing over my shoulder every now and then to make sure I’m not being followed. My hands shake slightly as I twist the doorknob and I slip inside. The familiar scent of fresh pastries and vanilla still lingers, even though the place has been untouched since the day I turned.I move fast, denying myself the time to get sentimental.I grab a duffle bag from my office and start tossing everything I can find—money from the till, non-perishable food, clothes, bathroom supplies.I then take one last look at my little bakery, the place I once thought would be my future and a lump forms in my throat, but I swallow it down and turn to leave.Just as I open the door, I freeze.I find Logan standing outside, gun in hand.Without saying a word, he pushes me

Kira was right. The pain wasn’t as bad as the first time. If I do this a couple more times, it will get easier.I watch as she runs through the trees, jumping over fallen logs and crossing rivers like it’s nothing. She’s free and happy.I get now why she wanted this run so badly. But unlike Kira, my mind is stuck on the attack. No matter how much I want Lucian to suffer, there are kids there. Innocent lives that don’t deserve to be slaughtered by my deranged father.I have to warn them."Kira, we need to change back," I whisper in her head. "I’ve decided to warn Lucian and the rest of the pack!""Ugh, okay. Give me a few more minutes. Let me enjoy this run before Lucian kills us the second he sees you.""Kira, now! There’s no time!" I snap. She sighs dramatically but obeys, turning back towards our cabin."Buzzkill," she sneers, as I shift back, landing hard on my knees.I catch my breath and shake off the lingering pain. "Come on, girl, we’ll have more runs in the future. For now, we

My arms ached, and my fingers became raw from hours of scrubbing wooden floors.Lucian’s idea of letting me stay wasn’t about accepting me into the pack. It was about making me their slave. The second I agreed to stay behind, I became the lowest of the low—an Omega, the pack’s slave and punching bag. They all barked orders at me whenever they pleased. Clean this. Fetch that. Cook. Serve. Scrub. It was humiliating. At first, I convinced myself it made sense, that I have to earn their trust, prove my loyalty and then work my way up.But never have I ever been so wrong in my life.No matter what I did, they still treated me like trash. Even the kids sneered at me, some even spitting on the ground in front of me when they passed. All they saw was the hunter’s daughter—the offspring of the man who has dedicated his life to slaughtering their kind.It didn’t matter that I had saved half of them from him, including their alpha, who would have probably died if I hadn’t been there.None of it

"Kira, we have to get out of town," I mutter, rushing inside the cabin.I find my duffle bag exactly where I left it, and I yank it open, my fingers shaking as I sift through its contents."Everything is still here," I breathe out in relief.Kira sighs in my head, her voice edged with urgency."Good. That’s enough to get us started, Ingrid. But we don’t have much time. They’ll be here any second now. We have to leave."I don’t waste another second.I swing the bag onto my back and bolt out of the cabin, taking the hidden paths Kira and I discovered during our explorations. The woods provide some cover until the moment I step onto the main road.I see the outline of the Shadow Ridge sign looming ahead, and I keep going.A bigger town is just a few miles from Shadow Ridge—Oakridge. It’s the perfect place to disappear. No one will find me there—not Lucian, his pack, or my father.I walk through the darkness. My cap pulled low over my face. Headlights suddenly pierce the night behind me.

I stay in the motel for a whole week, barely leaving my room except for the occasional visit to the vending machine a few times a day. It feels like a long-overdue vacation—something I didn’t realize I needed until now. There are no pack members sneering at me, no one barking orders, no fights to survive: just me, my thoughts, and the quiet hum of the motel. But Kira is getting restless, and I can feel it.I have to let her out soon, but the idea of shifting here, in an unfamiliar place, unsettles me. I have no idea if Oakridge is safe for our kind.“Ingrid, how will we know unless we try?” Kira’s voice echoes in my head, impatient as ever.I sigh.“Kira, we need to consider the possibility that there might be hunters in this town too,” I reassure her, grabbing the remote and turning on the TV, hoping it will distract me.Kira growls, clearly unimpressed.I flip through the channels until I land on a music station playing the latest hits. We walk for about an hour, weaving through dense trees and narrow paths until we finally come across what must be the pack's territory.Aiden moves with ease, leading me through the thick forest until we reach a towering metal gate surrounded by lush, vibrant roses."We’re here," he announces, pushing the gate open.I take a deep breath, steadying myself before stepping through. The air is different here—calm, yet charged with something unspoken. The compound is massive. There are three large houses scattered around, but my eyes are instantly drawn to the mansion in the center. Its architecture is sleek and modern, with towering glass windows that allow me to see straight inside. The place is buzzing with life.Aiden leads me to the grand entrance of the mansion and opens the enormous door. The moment I step inside, my stomach drops. The place is packed. Aiden’s voice breaks the silence as I push open the motel room door.I step inside and immediately start packing my few belongings into the worn duffel bag I arrived with.Out of the corner of my eye, I see Aiden watching me, waiting for an answer."Mmmh." He clears his throat loudly.I clench my fists, my nails digging into my palms."It’s a long story," I begin, my voice low, hoping that will be enough to dismiss him, but he doesn’t take the hint. "We have time," he counters, already making himself comfortable on the bed. "I’d love to hear it."I hesitate for a long moment before finally joining him on the edge of the bed."If I tell you, you might not want to help me anymore," I mutter, my gaze fixed on the floor, shame curling in my stomach.Aiden tilts his head, his expression soft but unreadable. "I don’t think I could do that, Ingrid," he responds, placing a firm but reassuring hand on my shoulder.Something about his presenc

Instead, he calmly steps inside and closes the door behind him like he owns the damn place, which he does."Didn’t you hear what I said, Lucian?" I bark again, pointing at the door with one hand, a mistake I instantly regret when I notice his eyes drop to my chest. He arches a brow, amused."Now you have a problem with me seeing you naked? I thought that was the whole plan. I walk in, see you half naked, so I’d stay away from this room?” he pauses.“Or that only applies when you are pretending to be asleep?" he mocks, as he walks over to the rack and casually starts flipping through his jackets."Also, you don’t have to sneak around drinking my expensive liquor. If you want some, just ask," he adds with a smirk.I take advantage of the distraction, slip out of the closet, and tug my T-shirt over my head in record time.He grabs a jacket and follows me out, unbothered.

INGRIDI’d used the same trick to keep Lucian out of his chambers for days now—and to my surprise, it worked better than I expected. He stopped coming to sleep altogether and I only saw him briefly in the mornings when he came in to change clothes, and even then, we barely spoke.I could tell something was on his mind. Something big, so I assumed that was the only reason he hadn’t called me out on my games. This morning, after my shower, I was standing by the window when I caught a glimpse of Ezra, Aiden, and a few pack members heading out the gate.My brows pulled together, wondering why Ezra hadn’t told me he was going somewhere, not that he needed my permission.Curiosity got the better of me, and I quickly dressed, hoping to catch them before they left. But on my way down the stairs, something else caught my eye, making me pause mid-step.It was Victoria, standing in Lucian’s study.I stopped and watched them from across the hallway. She stood so close to him, talking, and he look

LUCIANIt’s been almost two weeks since Dash came back from his assignment.I’ve kept what he told me to myself because the information he shared was too delicate, and I’m no longer sure who I can trust. He confirmed that Aiden’s story partly checked out. He did find blood stains right where Aiden claimed to have collapsed, just outside our borders, so that part lined up.But then things took a strange turn. When Dash followed Aiden’s scent deeper into the woods, it led him to a part of the forest none of us had ever charted. He described how the scent trail twisted oddly, almost like something else had masked it.He caught a stronger, unfamiliar scent that reeked of smoke and old blood.Driven by instinct, he followed it until he encountered a hidden mound of branches and dried leaves. At first glance, he said it looked like nothing, but when he cleared it, he found ash and dried blood.Curious, he dug through the remains using a stick, and that’s when he found something. A ring.Das

INGRIDAfter Ezra told me he couldn't help me, I was heartbroken. As his long-lost child, I thought he would do anything to protect me, but I was wrong. No one was going to fight this battle for me. I had to rely on myself.I walked back into the house, my heart heavy, and dragged myself to Lucian’s chambers. The moment I entered, my breath hitched. I hated to admit it, but his room looked like heaven. The first thing that hit me was its sheer size. It was nearly three times the size of the room I was sleeping in.The marble floors shimmered under a golden chandelier, its crystals catching every bit of light, scattering it across the ceiling like stars. The walls were painted a deep matte black but didn’t feel dark because they were lined with gold-accented art, ancient wolf emblems, and one massive mural of the moon goddess herself on the far end.His furniture was regal and masculine, a blend of mahogany and black leather. The desk in the corner looked hand-carved, its edges etched

LUCIAN.As I watched Ingrid storm out of my office, confused, humiliated, and angry, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t feel good.I hated that she had gotten too comfortable with the arrangement and too bold. She needed a reminder of her place here, and I was happy to give it to her.I saw her run outside to Ezra like a child because he is her safety net, and I watched from the window as she spoke to him, animated and desperate.I waited, curious if he’d do something stupid like to come and confront me, but when I saw her shoulders drop and her feet slowly start back toward the house, I knew Ezra couldn’t help her.A moment later, he glanced up, and his eyes found mine in the window. The stare he sent me could’ve melted stone, so I opened the window slightly, just to make sure he knew I was watching him too. That night, I stayed in my study longer than usual. I wasn’t in the mood for another argument and wasn’t ready to face her on our first night. After well past midnight, I finally

INGRIDAfter a long, grueling day of training with Aiden, Ezra, and the rest of the pack, my entire body screamed for relief.Muscles I didn’t even know I had were aching, and all I could think about was a hot soak and a few moments of peace. But the second I pushed the door to my room open, that fantasy went down the drain.Pack members I recognized were inside, moving my furniture and pulling clothes from my closet, and folding them into boxes.“What is going on?” I demand, my voice sharp and rising, but no one answers.I lunge forward and grab one of the women by the arm, my fingers digging into her skin. “Where are you taking my things?” I growl, my voice on the edge of fury. She yanks free and shakes her head, avoiding eye contact.“Go ask the Alpha,” she mutters before returning to her task.I stumble back, stunned, but why am I surprised? Who else could pull a stunt like this? I had defied him and disobeyed a direct order by releasing Aiden from that cell. This is his way of ret

LUCIANAs I watch Ingrid sparring with Aiden from my window, it feels like a knife is being twisted deeper into my chest with every passing second.I see her laughing as she blocks one of his attacks, and he grins like she’s the only person in the world.I wanted to believe her about him being her friend, but Aiden’s words kept echoing in my head like a broken record: “She might be your Luna, but only one of us has claimed her.”At first, I didn’t believe him, especially after how he manipulated Ingrid by making her rush to his side like I was the villain in their love story. I knew something was off.So I did the only thing I could. I investigated.I started with Ezra’s former pack members, and luckily, wolves tend to remember everything in detail. They told me stories, too many stories for it all to be coincidence. How Aiden used to have a girlfriend, Audrey, and how everyone in the pack knew that something changed when Ingrid arrived.Later on, Audrey confronted Ingrid in public th

I ask, my voice sharp and accusing. "What if he’s not lying, Lucian? Have you even considered that he might be telling the truth?"Lucian says nothing. LUCIAN"Open the door," I order, my voice sharp, cutting through the silence of the dimly lit hallway. The guard in charge of Aiden’s cell obeys and steps aside as the heavy metal door creaks open.Inside, the stench of blood, sweat, and damp stone clings to the air.Aiden is seated against the cold wall, his head resting on his knees. He looks like a man with nothing left to lose.At the sound of the door opening, he lifts his head slowly his dark unreadable eyes meeting mine.I step inside and signal for the guard to give me his chair. He hands it over without a word and I place it directly across from Aiden, the legs scraping loudly against the stone floor as I take my seat.I rest my forearms on my thighs and study him for a bit before beginning my interrogation."I thought it was about time we met," I blurt, keeping my tone neutral.Aiden smirks, sitting upright, his body language too relaxed for a prisoner facing his Alpha."So," I begin, cutting straight to the point, "what exa
