Chapter Twenty-three.Diana's povExiting the humongous gates of the palace, I scrolled down the streets of the city, with my air pods plugged in. I had little change with me, so first off, I had gotten something to eat. After I was done with my breakfast, I lingered for a bit in the restaurant contemplating whether or not this was really a good idea. I had sat long enough when a waiter approached me and asked if I had wanted anything else, I declined her kind offer and exited the restaurant.I stopped a cab and gave him my home address and we were off.The more we got farther away from the castle, the more the houses began to shimmer down in their vigor and structure. It was the top Lycans and elites, basically the rich, those who weren't Lycans and couldn't even afford to live there had to cope with the outer cities where I was headed to.It didn't take long before we finally arrived in Callaway City, a population of less than three hundred, that consisted of both wolves and humans.
Chapter Twenty-fourDiana's povThe door opened up and my mother walked into the room, she hadn't changed a bit since I last saw her, she looked like she was doing good even. I wiped the tears that I didn't know had spilled down my face and stood up quickly and so did Daniel.“Hi Mom,” I greeted a bit nervously. I wrung my fingers and twirled them in anxiety. She glanced at Daniel and then her eyes landed on me. When I left two years ago it wasn't on good terms, not that any of our encounters had been good ever since the incident with my father.“You came back,” she acknowledged my existence before she went towards the kitchen where Daniel helped her with the bags in her hands and greeted her. My mother didn't have a problem with Daniel and she offered him a smile of gratitude.“It's nice to see you again, Mrs Melbourne,” Daniel said while I stood behind them almost completely forgotten. My mother conversed with Daniel for a bit before he offered to leave after a look from me. He kne
Chapter Twenty-fiveDiana's pov.I continued to walk with no destination in mind, I wiped the hot angry tears from my cheeks, why was even affected by this? This has been my life for the past thirteen years, it shouldn't be a big deal.I felt a hand grab me by the wrist and pull me close to it, my head collided with a hard wall, and arms wrapped around me. I knew it was Daniel right away, his earth scent filled my nostrils, and he hugged me even tighter while I cried into his shirt. There was complete silence between us until my soft whimpers came to a halt and all I did was hiccup every now and then.“Are you okay?” He whispered. While I still hugged him, I didn't respond before he pulled me away and held me at arm's length. He withdrew a handkerchief from his pocket and helped me to wipe the tears from my face before they dried up.Good thing I didn't have to explain much to him as he knew all about what happened, he was the only one out of the members of the pack as well as the cit
Chapter Twenty-six.Diana's povDartos set was a fortune teller's shop, that was what Daniel wanted which we were about to do.He was the first to sit down opposite the man named Luke who was the owner of the shop. I glanced around the shop a few times, it was like any other fortune teller shop, relatively large room but dimly lit by candles which flickered often, casting across the walls adorned with tapestries depicting celestial scenes and ancient runes. The room was filled with a certain scent of sandalwood and something else, I couldn't quite place my finger on it.I took a careful step back when I spotted just at the corner close to the door, a crystal ball sitting atop a velvet cushion bathed by a soft ethereal glow created by the candles shimmering.I had to remind myself I wasn't in the palace anymore and that I was far away from that orb, this one just reminded me of it.I turned back around and faced Luke, Daniel was already seated in front of Luke with a round table separa
Chapter Twenty-seven.Diana's povI kept banging on the door and yelling his name until Daniel came up and stopped me, “Hey hey, calm down, Diana, calm down.” I stopped banging on the door and calling out to the fortune teller.“Why are you getting so worked up about it?" Daniel asked.Honestly, Luke being restless just made me restless. I felt like there was some kind of meaning to what those cards depicted but why did he scare him so much?“Uhmm, we paid for our futures to be read, at least he should finish his job,” I lied.Normally I wouldn't be bothered about Luke's behavior, I never really believed whatever he did was real anyway, also I thought he was a scam, but ever since the strange occurrences in the palace, I've become a bit skeptical, and I couldn't tell Daniel about them.Daniel laughed at my answer, “That's what this was about? C'mon now D, it's no biggie, I don't even believe in what he said anyway, it was just a way for us to pass the time,” he confessed.I glanced
Chapter Twenty-eight.Diana's pov I was so confused and scared as I stood in front of none other than the queen— the last person I would ever be seeing here won't even be her though as she wouldn't be on the list.I didn't know what to do, should I curtsey? “What are you even doing here? I told you to leave my shop,” Luke chided as he went over to lock the door on the queen's orders.I swallowed a lump in my throat, I really wasn't lucky when it came to the royal family. She didn't seem like she was about to let me go after I had caught her with someone else other than the king in a land much farther away from the palace.Luke came up from behind me, “Your Highness, I'm sorry for the intrusion, just another one of my customers,” he responded to the queen.“You, I know you,” she noted as she draped the robe over her shoulders properly. “You're my son's rejected mate aren't you?”Luke looked between me and the queen wondering how we were acquainted.“Yes your Highness,” what else was
Chapter Twenty-nine.Alaric's pov:Since my mate left, I've been trying to find out what my father had really wanted from her. Why did she have to go through so much torture based on what someone else had to say?He mentioned something about her being a sorcerer and having powers, but that couldn't be true since there hasn't been a sighting of sorcerers or any form of witchcraft for years now, at least none that I have heard of.I knew something else was going on, I just couldn't figure it out yet, there were too many fragments.I made my way into the conference room where my father was having a meeting with the prime ministers and as his son, I was meant to be there. They were already seated when I entered, I didn't bother to disturb them and just went to the seat closest to my father. They continued to talk about how the wolves in the city were, how we were losing control of them, and that they needed to set the order right.I drowned out still trying to figure out what my father wa
Chapter thirty.Diana's povAfter I dashed out of Luke's shop, I didn't know where I was going, but the rational part of my mind, which I didn't know was still alive, knew that the queen couldn't be trusted. I couldn't go straight home, I couldn't put my mother in danger. Her sharp eyes and her long claws seemed to be burning in my mind, I would have been dead if it weren't for luke.I didn't know where I was going and just ran, after I had put some distance between me and Luke's shop, I finally slowed down. The streets were empty, which was weird, usually there were always some people out at night.I heaved heavily with my hands in my chest, I couldn't stop the tears from falling and just let them go. When I got here, I thought I could have a little peace of mind, maybe my emotions would be in check and I could rest a bit, I was wrong, it felt like everywhere I turned there was always a royal night there to make my life a living hell, maybe I shouldn't even go back to the palace.I t
Chapter 293: A Royal End Diana’s pov The pack apparently had been silent as they waited for our return. We were bloodied, bruised, and exhausted as we arrived at the pack, carrying the injured as well as the losses we had amounted to, which was quite a number from both packs. We had won the battle but we had also lost a lot of lives in the process, was that really a win? I spotted Alaric, who might have just been waiting for us to return, running towards us before wrapping me in his arms and lifting me into the air, holding me close to him. His scent was intoxicating. I thought I would never see him again. The exhaustion had finally caught up with me and I collapsed in the safety of his arms, he pressed my hands against his chest and inhaled deeply, “I'm glad you're safe.” The sound of his voice comforted me, but at the same time made me feel guilty for what I had done back in the palace. The tears pooled at the corner of my eyes as I realized he was the last of his kind, “I'm
Chapter 292: Finally Diana's pov Karen and I met up while the others remained and watched the fire burn, leaving one after the other and not wanting to be caught as the fire spread rapidly. Karen had been thinking about it for a long time. She had wanted the werewolves to be on their own while the humans would be in their own zone and both shouldn't cross paths, “As much as I like you and you're a really good person, it's only for the best.” This I understood completely and wouldn't have had it any other way. We came to an agreement before staring at the blazing fire, it was going to burn as the size of the palace was humongous. This would also clear whatever had been killing them as we didn't want it to attach itself to us. It might have only been the lycans, but who was to say it didn't affect the locals as well? It might just be taking much longer before it attacks us. My prayer was to the moon goddess that it would wait for a very long time. The humans and the werewolves th
Chapter 291: The End Of A Reign Diana POVI drained the last bit of energy I had just to keep him alive which I succeeded in doing. Taking in a large gulp of air, I laid down beside him and his twin brother. He was alright, I repeated this in my head and thanked the moon goddess for not taking him away. She had been by my side the entire time just as she had promised. After taking that log of air, before finally realizing that the room had been occupied by the others, Karen, Roy, as well as others who had followed us into battle. They stood staring back at me as I stood to my feet and helped Daniel sit up. It was quiet, save for the shuffling of feets.Being surrounded by so many people, months ago I would have been scared and shied away but now here I stood. Our mission that day was to save the humans and the werewolves from the hands of the lycans but we had done more than that.“The Lycans after witnessing the death of their king had lost all hope to fight and fled the scene,” Kar
Chapter 290: Snapped Neck Diana's povIf I remember correctly, the pendant had been manufactured by Luke's mother, the witch. Apparently, it was made specifically for Silver bloods. I didn't know the full extent of it, but having been attacked by it with the king before, it had something that made us weak.“You think that's going to hurt me?” I stared at the pendant quizzically, the king had only held it out to me when there had only been a moment of weakness and nothing more, which was the same thing that happened now.Donald chuckled, “It might not hurt you, but might keep you down enough for me to kill you.” The smirk had vanished from his face and his eyes darkened, taking a step towards me with his hands stretched out in front of him. From this distance, I could already feel the effects of the pendant. A constant ringing that got louder and louder, it felt as though the very blood that ran through my veins was boiling and I felt hot all over.My teeth gnashed against each other
Chapter 289: An Imposter. A Bastard. Diana's pov.“Donald? What the hell are you talking about?” Who the hell was Donald and why was he speaking in such a manner? His voice had changed as well as his accent. His smile morphed into the soft smile I had always known Daniel to have, but in the next second, it disappeared, there was something different. He cackled at my perplexity, “You are not Daniel, are you?” I questioned his weird behavior. He shook his head, “I didn't peg you to be really slow, Diana. Then again, it's not like you can tell the difference, can you?” “Daniel is my twin brother, bring him out boys,” he yelled out and two of the guards brought out an identical person, dragging him by the hands while his knees scraped the floors. This version of Daniel was looking bruised and battered and on the verge of death, “Allow me present to you, my younger brother, Daniel,” he triumphantly said as he walked off the dias and towards the real Daniel. They were really identical tw
Chapter 288: A Riddle?Diana's pov It was over.Standing at the highest point in the palace for everyone to see and gazing down at them as they all came to a stand still.Hughes laid with his back pressed against the earth for everyone to see that the kingdom had finally fallen.A kingdom with no king is as good as doomed, at least that's what they said but I seemed to disagree, it didn't matter if we had a king or not, what mattered was peace and equality. This was a show and the Lycans knew that they had lost the battle and the war, and it was only a matter of time before they faded away into dust. There would only be one Lycan left in the kingdom.I needed to find the queen and the princess and save them, my thoughts trailed back to Alaric. He shouldn't have to suffer the loss of being alone, as much as I hated the both of them. The queen had been nothing but spite, holding me down on her leash like I was some dog, threatening me every second she had gotten, and the princess had b
Chapter 287: Gone Is The Usurper Diana's pov.I ordered some of the men to set out and look for the survivors and lead them out of the Palace. The humans, the werewolves, as well as Beatrice and the others that had been left behind. While the rest of us would be making our way to the throne room or wherever the king was, he would have to pay for the crimes that he had committed. We moved into action, the lycans were not a force that could be reckoned with, maybe a few months ago, now they were like children in the hands of mere wolves.Fighting then wasn't the problem, as we moved as a team, but we also needed to hurry and end this as soon as possible.I ran up to the throne room where I thought he would have been but encountered two of the guards which I had to fight. After putting them down I questioned them and found that the king was in his chambers.A coward he was, slitting their throats right afterward and making my way towards his chamber. My mind was resolute, my anger const
Chapter 286: A Unified FrontDiana's pov.Karen and I had returned back to the gates of the upper city and then arrived at the pack. Helene and Sarah were most shocked to see Kaleb on my back.“I can't believe you found him, I can't believe he's alive.” The tears pooled at the corners of her eyes as she fussed over him on the couch, thanking me repeatedly as she hugged her long-lost son.Sarah also tried to comfort herself but lost the battle as the tears spilled down the side of her face.“We don't have much time, Luke and Delilah are still in the palace. They were most likely captured and we have to do whatever we can to get them out, as well as your sister.” Helene sniffed and cleared up her nostrils, “I see you've finally met Beatrice.”I nodded, “We had already met quite several times, we need to storm the castle with whatever we have, but first I need to help him get stable.” They all stared at me with looks of determination, Alaric came up from behind me, his hands circling a
Chapter 285: Luke Vs Hughes Luke's pov. When I found out that Delilah had returned, my heart stopped as I feared that I might just lose her like I did the first time. But after watching her go through the lycans as though they were mere dolls, I couldn't have been more proud. My mate was practically the strongest wolf out there and even I couldn't compare to what she could do. I thought all this while I had to protect her when she could protect herself. At least Diana and the others had been able to escape, we just needed to worry about ourselves, but I was already getting exhausted. After going head to head with at least four of the Lycans, taking a few hits here and there, my focus was lost and I received a fatal blow in the guts, which I doubled over, gasping for breath. The lycan stood over me as I raised my head to look him in the eye, a smirk sat on his lips as he knew he had the advantage now. If it had been a one-on-one fight, I would have used his dumb ass face to mop the fl
