They left the house early so they could buy all they needed from the market, and also return in time for the post wedding ceremony. Raphael had mentioned after breakfast; that they were expecting some friends and well-wishers who could not make it to the wedding. They had arranged to come to the mansion to celebrate it and he had no say in it.
"So tell me dear, what did you say you wanted to buy in the market?" Ruth wrapped her expensive yellow lace-like material tightly around her waist, while she carried her broad blue purse in her left hand.
Doris bit her lower lip, rubbed them together and replied, "I wanted to buy um... some... lingerie from a friend of mine who stays at Ikoro lane."
The older woman raised her brows, her small lips formed a knowing smirk in acknowledgement to the younger woman's words. "You should have said so then, maybe I wouldn't have kept you waiting. There's no harm done anyway, I'll just call the driver to come take the bags we have here and then we'll head over to her place. Okay?"
Doris nodded like a zombie. She suddenly regretted telling the woman that, how was she to get out of this one now?
The woman was a hyperactive one, even at her age she has never failed to behave like a younger version of herself.
."Wow baby girl! You're looking sweet!" An ebony skin lady gushed loudly from the counter, when she saw Doris walk into the shop. It has been a long time she saw the twins together but she knew about Dorine's wedding, and sadly, could not make it.
Doris' heartbeat changed it's rhythm as she walked closer towards the slim dark lady. If a doctor placed a stethoscope on her chest right now, he would become deaf. She forced a smile on her face in order to erase any suspicions, as Sarah might easily detect that something was amiss.
"How far naa? You didn't even bother to call and ask after me ehh, Sarah? You're not a good friend." She referred to the woman who has already stepped out from the counter in order to hug her.
They embraced for a while and asked questions forth and back, Doris answered every question slowly and after thinking about it carefully. If there was one person in this shop who could distinguish between her and her sister, then that person was currently before her. Sarah has known the twins for a very long time; since they were still in the university to be precise, as they always hung out together during holidays or strike. It was going to be difficult to impersonate her twin now, but thankfully, her mother in-law was nowhere near and would not hear their conversation.
Sarah led her to one of the sections of the most sexy lingerie on display and they exchanged stories while she selected those which caught her interest. It was a good thing she knew her bra size, so fitting them on wasn't time-consuming. She separated the designs she liked from the ones she didn't and left the changing room. There, her mother in-law was chatting and laughing so hard at whatever Sarah was telling her.
Doris shrugged nonchalantly. At least, it did not seem like they knew about her secret yet. She walked to the counter and dropped her choices on the desk for costing, then she started fumbling with her black handbag, for her ATM card.
When she brought it out, she offered the card to the saleslady but her mother in-law stopped her."You don't have to do that, not when I'm here," She turned back to the girl punching on the calculator tabs, "How much are these? Please add them to my own bill, I'll pay for them"
She gave her own ATM card and winked at her daughter in-law.
Doris marvelled. This woman is being so sweet and nice to her that she can't stomach the courage to keep lying to her.
"Um...are you Sarah?" Ruth asked Sarah who was on the phone at the moment.
Sarah acknowledged her question with a nod of the head while her lips continued to move with the words she was saying. After a short while, she ended the call and walked towards Ruth and Doris.
"Ma, you called me?"
"Yes. I wanted to let you know that we're celebrating the post-wedding ceremony of your friend's marriage, by three-thirty pm today. Will you be there?"
"By 3:30pm ha! Well," she glanced at her wristwatch "the time is ten minutes to one pm right now, if I can make it I'll let you know."
"Ngwanu, call your friend to inform her of your decision. We will send a driver to pick you up from here."
At the sound of that, Sarah made up her mind to be at the celebration. It was not everyday one got a free ride to a party. She bade the women goodbye and started to attend to other buyers in the shop.
..
The house was rowdy with movement, and decorations round the corner of the house gave it a very vibrant and colourful outlook. The living room was decorated in gold and navy-blue colours, using ribbons, flowers and balloons. The large chandelier sparkled with very bright light that radiated and illuminated the entire room.
Ruth and Doris carried their own bags from all that they shopped, and left the other bags for Tony and Chike to bring into the house. Ruth instructed her daughter in-law to get ready for the party, and also ensure that her husband got dressed as well before she left for her room, to her own husband.
Doris never imagined that getting dolled up for a party could be exhausting and tiring. Her makeup artist was already gushing about how perfect she would look at the party. Her makeup was definitely made to blend in with her outfit. She was going to wear a navy-blue ballgown that had a gold ribbon attached to the stomach, it was to make her stomach more tiny than her hips. The makeup session has been going on for over an hour, yet they were adding more touch to her look. If asked, she'd say she looked flawless; every black spot, freckles and pimples has been thoroughly covered under the layers of foundation and powder.
They made her hair too, then left after taking a couple of selfies with her. She only had to gather morale for the crowd she was going out to meet, other than that, she was set to leave.
A rapt knock on the door had her sitting up straight and glancing again at her reflection in the mirror.
"Come in," She rasped.
At the sound of the door click, a plump, average height, brown-skin woman walked in. She was putting on a black overall gown with nude heels and holding a black pamphlet in her left hand. Ruth had introduced them earlier; she was the event planner for the occasion, Theresa by name.
Theresa stood just a few metres away from her before the door clicked again, indicating that someone else was making an entrance.
Matthew gently closed the door after he came in, then he stood behind Doris and placed his hands on both her shoulders.
"Good thing you're here too Matt, I want to address the both of you." Theresa started.
She gave instructions and briefed them on how to make an entrance to the living room, before all the guests. Afterwards, she congratulated and wished them well before she made her way out of the room.
"You ready?" Matthew asked. He was looking down at Doris who was still seated on the white vanity chair.
She nodded, “I think... yes”
She stood up and was about to leave before he held her wrist, keeping her in same position."Wait, I have something for you." He put his right hand into the pocket of his navy-blue senator-shirt and brought out a small black box.
He opened the box to reveal a fable silver diamond pendant.Doris gasped and widened her eyes in shock. 'How could it be?' she asked inwardly.
"Remember this necklace and what happened on that day?" Matthew studied her reaction very carefully. She did remember what happened on that day and it gave him so much joy.
The pendant he was showing her was similar if not the same pendant they fought over, in a jewellery store, five months ago. She couldn't decipher why he was showing her the pendant, could he have found out the secret and lies she's been telling.
She looked into his brown orbs and got lost in them. His eyes glistened with happiness and pleasure, and she had no idea why.
'Is he not mad at me?'
"I couldn't forget that day, that's why I bought this pendant two months after. I was going to give it to you before our wedding but I guess I couldn't find the courage to. I hope you still like it as much?" He looked as innocent as a young deer. Perhaps it was the fear that she would not like the gift.
She smiled.
He was a very thoughtful person, added to the fact that he was also very handsome. Matthew was a show stopper. His body stature, dimples and drop dead gorgeous smile have always been a feature that greatly distinguished him from the crowd but it seemed that the fact had not occurred to him.
She has not forgotten that day either, what she could not remember was that Matthew was the same guy who had confronted her at the store.
Damn!
She should have made out time to visit her sister and maybe she could have come across Matthew then. Now, her one negligence and mistake was costing her a lot.

"Nothing hurts more than being disappointed by the one person you thought would never hurt you. " -Unknown ¶¶It was all a new experience for her. Being married. Living with four more occupants in a house. Sleeping on same bed with a man. All these she was recently exposed to because of Dorine. Regardless, it would seem the changes in her life were not going away anytime soon. For the first time in her life, she was travelling as one of the first class passengers on an airplane. She never travelled by one because it was just too expensive for her to afford, now she was currently taking advantage of the services which has been paid for, by her new husband.

Never lie to me, unless you're absolutely sure I will never find out the truth. " -Unknown "I wasn't always like this. I used to go swimming with my friends, and I liked it" He linked his right fingers with her left. Tracing the veins on her left hand, with his left finger. They were seated on the edge of the bed, their bodies close to each other."What happened?" She asked."One day, we went out to swim as usual, in the lake we always swam in. We pulled off our clothes, got into the river, and began splashing water on each other. But, what we didn't realize was that the current of the water had changed. One of my friends got his boxers stuck and went under the surface to free himself, we waited for him for a long time. He was taking too long to show up. So, myself and my oth
Knowing the truth may hurt like hell, but knowing that you've been living a lie, feels like burning in hell." -Amyirechi Never in Doris' life, did she ever imagine herself in a place like this. She concluded that Raffles Hotel Singapore was heaven on Earth. So this was what her sister, Dorine has been enjoying for so long. She could never tell if Dorine has been to the Botanic gardens, her sister probably never mentioned it. But they did talk a lot about the various meals, festivals, and locality that Dorine managed to be part of. As they walked the grounds of the evergreen and colourful gardens, beautified by a variety of plants and flowers in their different colours. Her thoughts raced. She was walking steadily beside her husband and the man who volunteered to give them a tour of the garden. He w
If the number of times you lied to me crumbled a little fraction of my heart, then I'm afraid I won't live to know the end of your lies. " Amyirechi ♥️♥️. "You're looking good since the last time I saw you man. Must be the perks of being a married man." Matthew mentioned as they all walked into a wide field. A large crowd of people had already gathered before the Marina bay sands to get a good view of the light and water show. Williams and Matthew managed to fill the others in on how the light shows goes. Williams admitted bringing his family here because of the promise he made to his daughter, thankfully, his wife had a business deal which made them take this sudden trip to Singapore. Williams rolled his eyes when he realized that Matthew was referring to the bulge appearing on his stomach. "Time has not be
“My heart bleeds each time I realize that I wasn't enough for your honesty. ” -Unknown The awkward tension between Matt and Doris was so thick it could be cut through with scissors. Doris has not said a word to Matthew since the incident at the bathroom, replying to his questions was only a one-word answer. Nevertheless, it seemed that Matt did not care. He was okay with her silence, perhaps if she said something it might fuel the feeling of guilt he already had. They were going to join Williams Shade and his family for a game of golf later. Doris was hesitant to go at first. After a while, she realized that staying in the room alone would only make her keep thinking about what happened in the bathroom last night. She accepted Matthew's invitation, much to his delight. Halfway
I'll fight ten thousand battles for you, but you have to be honest about who your enemies are. "-Amyirechi "Here's your payment sir, thank you." The fair-skin cab driver—having very long and unkempt beards—accepted the notes of money from Doris and drove away. She was left standing before a very tall building. 'Aijek Fashionworld' was the name boldly inscribed on the wall- column of the majestically tall building. The five-storey building was coated in chocolate-brown and yellow paint and stood out from the other structures because of its intimidating height. She walked confidently towards the large revolving door that paved as the first entrance to the building, already, lots of people were treading the ceramic floors; all dressed in various corpo
“ Not everybody values honesty, but honest people can never be forgotten. ”- Unknown 🖤🖤🖤 Matthew stopped applying the wet sponge on Doris' body when he heard her groan. She was so wasted that she has not moved a muscle since he took her out of the club. He was so disappointed and saddened by her actions, but what was hurting him the most was that he does not understand the reason behind her sudden disappearance and why she chose to spend her time in a bar, of all places. She groaned out some more before moving her arms and legs. She was waking up. Slowly, she opened her eyelids, one after another. She rubbed her eyes. Matthew removed his hand and moved away to give her space to sit up. He stared intently at her every move, she had taken a lot of strong alcohol so she was going to react to them soon enough, and he was prepared
Epilogue °•°•°•°•°•°•° Matthew's POV When I arrived at Doris's house in time to take them to the party, I felt relieved that the hurdles of the past week have been put behind me, for now. As soon as the last meeting in Badagry was adjourned, I rushed to the airport to join the last flight heading to Imo State. Even though it cost me extra naira to buy a ticket at the last minute. I missed my sons. I never knew that parenting was this exhilarating. Sure, they are a handful most times, but I would never trade every sacrifices I've made for their sakes just to have a less complicated life. They filled my days with a lot of light. Their charisma and intelligence made me proud to call them mine. When I made the decision to be part of their lives, I knew that I had made the best decision of my life. The most thing on my mind was to freshen

These children would not lead me to my untimely end. “Have you checked your room properly?” I asked, knowing how lazy he could be whenever he's been instructed to do something. Especially, if that job was against his will. “Yes, and David too. We didn't see anything.” he passed a glance at his twin brother. I could drill the truth out of David if I wanted to. However, my older son was too softhearted and I did not want to put him in a tight spot where he had no choice but to either betray his brother and tell me the truth, or lie to me to protect his brother. I decided to giv

She was glad to set her eyes on the light of day again not to talk of the trauma she experienced yesterday. She closed her eyes and shook her head to clear the thoughts running through her mind. She refused to believe that Matthew could go to such extent just to have his revenge on her. She always expected to be punished for her sins, but she never imagined that spending her time in jail would be the punishment he saw fit. She realized that she would not serve the punishment alone, her children were surely going to be affected.
“Future is the best analyzer of the truth.. ” -Bishop K.K Degaya ♠♠♠♠♠♠Forty minutes later, Dorine had gotten to get them to the hospital with the help of the taxi driver who was kind enough to endure all the stress. She encountered a short difficulty with the hospital procedures at the reception, but she received help as soon as the head nurse appeared. She paced the floors of the waiting area, her hands folded at her back. She looked worried and worked her lips nervously. After five minutes or more, two of the nurses attending to her sister emerged from the room. “What happened?” she rushed towards them, glancing back and forth at the two of them. “The head nurse is inside, she wants to see you” the darker nurse related. Raphael Udochi shook off his son's hand from his shoulder and pointed accusingly at him. "There's something definitely wrong in this house, why won't he tell me?" He turned to his wife, and she turned her face away. The guilt could not let her look him in the eye. "Tell me...Ruth, what is everyone keeping from me? Why haven't I seen Dorine and her sist
You had me intoxicated with your lies, and sober with your truths..." -Amyirechi ♠♠♠♠♠ Damian stood and watched quietly, from the balcony of his house, as the twins trudged in from the gate. Carrying their baggage behind. Dorine had called him on the day they checked out of the hotel. She used the hotel line to inform him of the change in plans, and he had promised that his guest house was open to them anytime. He did not hesitate to send the address and directions on how to get to the house, she immediately wrote it down and had headed back to the room to help her sister pack. Now, after being thrown out of the mansion, they were here. In the one place, Dorine never imagined she would ever live in, nor with the person. Doris, on her end, was reluctant to go ahead with her sister's decision
“Amyirechi ” ♠♠♠♠♠♠ Ruth's scream alerted every other person in the house. Matthew was the first person to rush into the guest room. Martha was almost on his heels. She came in afterwards. “Mom, what is it?” he said, very alert and observed the room for any strange occurrence. Ruth shook her head, refusing to believe the revelation. “Ruth, what happened? Why did you scream?" Martha asked. Looking back and forth at the twin's faces.
Despite she felt her heart thumping harder in her chest, she tried as much as she could to put a smile across. Her mind wandered on how to handle the issue on ground while Mrs Udochi walked off into the kitchen, her son trailed behind. Mr Udochi made himself comfortable on one of the sofas and instructed Doris to put on a news channel for him. She knew the channel he watched most because that was all he did back then, when he was recuperating from the heart attack. After she left him, she worried on the best approach to tackle the matter and break their hearts. "They're here," she announced to her twin-who laid on the bed in the guest room-listening to music with her earphones plugged in. "Huh?" Dorine sat up and removed the earphones. "You said..?" Doris paced the room, her expression clouded in worry and unease. She felt arms around her, and loo
“A liar must be a man of great memory. Same goes for a fiction writer...” -Unknown ♠♠♠♠ “Oh! You're home finally.” Martha said, enthusiastic about Doris' presence. Especially, when she sighted the luggage Doris held behind. “Yes,” Doris responded. “I was getting bored of staying in this house all by myself.” Martha chattered as she walked with Doris into the main sitting room. Doris fidgeted and was passing glances at the door. “What's wrong?" Martha, who noticed her uneasiness, inquired. “Ugh...I brought someone you might like to meet,” she related. “Come in D,” Doris called out. Martha eagerly waited for the shadow that was moving across the walls to come into view. Her interest piqued when the shadow
